    I'm SO greatful that you decided to document this whole process!! Super helpful! Especially because SO many people have had rot issues with their Thai Constellations😩 but what a beautiful turn out!😍 This is my favorite Monstera because of how beautiful they are even without any splits in the leaves! This type of veriegation is so stunning!

    I enacted the worst root rot I've ever seen on one of my plants on my massive 3.5 year old monstera and this gave me hope. I don't care if it takes one year for each of the six sections, as long as it survives. Thank you!

    I wanted to provide an update! I was a month in and was ready to give up. I pulled it out of the perlite and low and behold there was a root forming and a growth coming!!! That was a month in and I had kept it at a west facing backyard window that gets lots of light! And now at the two month mark I have a baby leaf and a new leaf on the way! Thank you so much!! I'm so grateful you shared your experience and tips!! 💚💚💚

    Thanks for the response.
    I did the deed today. Took it out of soil completely. Trimmed roots, removed all soil from the roots. There is roots but they were very small and and the thicker ones were firm.
    Did the peroxide dip, rinsed, and I placed in Perlite only and used a cut soda bottle as well to keep and eye on progress.
    I went ahead and divided the plants with leaves and growth points.
    Hope I have a similar result.

    I'm so relieved for you! It's so upsetting to see a much loved plant at deaths door, isn't it? My 6 yr old deliciosa just got severe root rot after i split his roots and put them in too big of a pot with too wet soil (it only took 5 days for the roots to entirely rot 😭) so I'm hoping that the stems i have in perlite with coco coir at the base now will root eventually, but it's great to see your timeline and now how healthy your constellation is! Fingers crossed for everyone treating root rot!

    you just gave me hope. I got my monstera a couple weeks ago, bare root. it was packed well but got held up in shipping during a heat wave. I cut off the rot and potted it in soil. A new leaf had started growing in but now it's all brown and not unfurling. the rest of the plant looks healthy including where it's growing from. I'm about to go on operation root save.

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  3 роки тому

      Oh no! I always remove rotting leaves just below where the brown starts. That keeps all the healthy tissue and gets rid of the rotting stuff. I defo suggest the hydrogen peroxide root soak, perlite, and a whole lot of patience! Good luck!

    • @Maliilse75
      @Maliilse75 Рік тому

      Also, do you think your technique would work with a monstera that is two years old with 6-7 leaves? After how long would you move your thai monstera to a normal airy soil mix such as orchid soil mix? Thats what I'd like to use for mine. Thank you!

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  Рік тому +2

      it's called 'pon' short for semi-hydroponics its an inorganic substrate that I used similarly to perlite but for more long term

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  Рік тому +1

      I don't see why it wouldn't work. how long it takes depends on the severity of the rot though... but I'd say a more established plant like yours is probably going to grow new roots faster

    I gifted a beautiful plant arrangement to my boyfriends mom. It had drainage holes, but also had a cover pot. Well she must have forgotten that I told her she needs to allow all the water to drain out before placing it back in the cover pot. Needless to say, chaos ensued shortly after. I came over one day and decided to check on it. I noticed it wasn't doing very well so pulled it out of the cover pot and omg the smell that immediately hit me was absolutely horrendous! There was about 3 inches of disgusting, smelly, brown, rotten water. I'm going to try my best to save it. I own about 45 plants myself and this is the first time I've had to deal with root rot. Fingers crossed! It was so pretty 😌

      It might be! Update though, I have tried to save root rot on a pothos with perlite, but it didn't work. I've heard plants like monstera and philodendron really like it and can be saved with perlite, but pothos don't really work

    Pon is litterally a miracle medium everything I put in it just thrives and it’s so low maintenance Everything I put into it just throws out new leaves constantly to the point a new leaf starts emerging before the most recent one has even hardened off the only downside I have is that if you drop a plant in pon the pon will go everywhere haha

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  3 роки тому

      Yesss pon is amazing! I just transfered a bunch more plants into it because I've had similar results of amazing growth! Just gotta be careful not to drop or knock them. Cuz not only pon will go everywhere, so will the water in the resevoir!

    Okay sooo yesterday I discovered root rot on my monstera but like BADDDDD like one root was entirely covered in white fuzzy mold. The only thing I could save was 2 stemmed leaves that came with a node or 2. No arial roots, nothing. I decided to pot it in pon and see if it’ll grow (after I soaked it in hydrogen peroxide, rinsed, and let it dry out for a good hour and a half). I had boiled the pon a few hours prior so it was soaked but I’m worried about it causing rot again even though it doesn’t have any roots. I had to burry it very well so it wouldn’t tip over the pot 😭😭😭 HELP

    During the process did you fertilize any or just waited until you planted in pond.
    BTW…. Great video and beautiful plant.
    We are dealing with this currently. I bagged into a make shift mini greenhouse and stopped watering. Only must 1-2 X/wk. I too got new leaves but once then is started browning again and all new leaves affected.

    Question - how long did you water for the perlite to drink up the water? I don’t have what you did so I have a pot w multiple holes sitting in a high saucer with water but it drank it all right up!

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  11 місяців тому

      I left it sitting in the puddle basically. So if I were you, I'd make sure the saucer always has water in it. Good luck!!

      so I keep mine in a water resevoir so like the bottom 1/4 of the pot sits in water, but the cutting is above the 1/4 mark in the pon. Does that make sense?

    Thanks for you extremely helpful video. I have a couple huge monsteras; however, I am wondering if I have root rot. Can you please tell me what the leaves look like at the first sign of this? Mine are not drying and curling as the images you showed are but, they are starting to get some light yellow coloration around the edges and middle of a lot of the leaves. Should I be afraid?

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  2 роки тому

      so lighter yellow colouration sounds more like sunburn or pest damage to me but it's hard to say without seeing pictures. Feel free to DM me if you want more specific advice :)

    Starting this journey today! My baby thai con was doing so good, but then I got overly excited about new growth and up potted it wayy too early. Of course the roots started to rot on me. Now my precious is in perlite rehab and I am hoping she'll make it!
    Btw did you keep the water level the same(ish) all through the rooting process? I've rooted in perlite before, but I've filled the water to the top, so this is new to me! :D
    Thank you!

      Just wanted to give an update!!! The first month was a struggle, the roots kept rotting and I had to cut away more and more every week. Then I decided to go crazy and cut away a huge chunk of the stem, leaving only one root nub. It finally stopped rotting on me and has since then FINALLY started growing juicy, healthy roots.
      Now I'm just waiting for there to be enough roots because I don't want to risk my baby rotting again 😅

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  2 роки тому

      Great deal but shame about the root rot! Personally I wouldn't put it in moss as that stays quite wet and could cause more rot. I'd do the same thing I did with mine. Of course success isn't guaranteed but it's worked very well for my plant and others. Good luck!

      I think mine will arrive in airy soil mix with alot of soil roots ready already, hopefully my super airy mix will make it stay healthy here as well and my glass cabinet maybe?!!¡
      The woman who sold it to me this time is AMAZING, a total PRO with Thai Cons, especially in soil is what I've noticed which is AWESOME just that!¡
      Sooo, I think I won't change that to much, because soil is my wish for it anyways so a big headstart in just that is worth alot just that I believe!¡ 🤔🌿
      My favorite plant for sure and it haven't even arrived yet...💕
      It's also very rooted in soil + BIG and a node cutting with big leaf so I'm optimistic❣
      ((Not like the other expensive 3-4x TC disasters I've gotten before this one which definitely didn't make it either ofc))
      The last 1 I got((which made me think smarter + wait for the perfect opportunity instead)) was shipped bare rooted/dry AF & all brown n' mushy like 5 weeks old salad that's been out in the summer heat without anything preserving it, all rotted everywhere, DEAD SOSO DEAD yah know.
      And only after like 2-3 days of shipping in the same country not far away from me..
      Probably dead when packed... 🤔
      The seller was not even discussing the bad shipping, at all and ofc no refund or anything.
      Just a total ultra Bitch about it((if I can be a little ruder than usual atm, pisses me of thinking about it as a very low income woman))...
      A bad "hustler" in my opinion..
      But hey, she got me... 😵
      No more words needed for that though..
      Just a purely bad person, SUPER MEGA ULTRA BAD in every area...
