What did you think about that macro shot? 👁
It was impressive!
Missing focus on the iris?
Great demo of the "macro" capabilities. Curious why it was picking up the lashes and not the iris?
I just bought this lens and I can’t wait to take it with me to Europe. The minimum focus distance is such a great bonus, too.
Nice review. You show lots of practical everyday applications. The eye focus test is fantastic. I was getting ready to replace my Tamron 17-28 with the new Tamron 20-40. With this lens, now I can let my 17-28 and 28-75 go. I do mostly landscape photography. So many choices. What to do!!!
Another masterful review and creative shots/editing. Cheers.
That intro! You prove that you are genius, once again. Big respect, Sir.
I don't know whether to thank you or be upset with you. Before your video ended I preordered one of these lens. Seriously, I had been thinking of getting this lens and your video sold me on this lens. Thank you for a nice informative video.
This lens works great with the newer Sony cameras with the A7R5 focusing technology. It works great on the A7CR/II, a6700 and the ZV-E1. It's amazing how much the Sony experience improves with new technology built into the camera and the newer line of compact, lightweight G lenses. I really like my 20-70 lens. I will be putting it to more work as I explore its capabilities. Already, close up photography with this lens is great.
Thanks for the review iPhonedo! Been eyeing this Lense for a while.. Now convinced for having this lense together with my A74 & 35mm 1.4GM. I think It'll be great for family tours and adventures.. Subscribed! 👍🏼
This lens performs well from all the videos I've seen so far. It looks like a really good lens for video as well. It would have been nice to see the power zoom and internal zooming feature implemented on this lens, like the 16-35 f/4, still the weight and price makes it a good choice.
Great review! Can the Dji RS3 mini zoom in via Bluetooth with this lens or with the Sony PZ 16 to 35 f4 lens?
Thank you for this clear and helpful review. I would be interested in a comparison video against this one to some prime lenses.
Great review
which lens would you get this or the 24-70 2.8 gm first gen used for $1000? im new to sony, its for my FX3!
It looks like a great balanced lens. I only wonder if it could carry over that performance to the A7r4/5.
I was set to buy a A7R5 (mainly because of the screen) with the Tamron 20 40, but this is also a useful lens
That macro shot tho. Damn. lol. Fire.
Thank you. 👋🥳
Why do u have to test in APS mode when u have a full frame camera?
hi Phonedo, do you mind to compare this lens against 24-105mm f4? I am almost convinced this 20-70mm f4 is the right lens for travel purposes. It is even smaller, lighter and with the additional 4mm wider one can do even more amazing landscape shots and at the same time leave it on for portrait shots.
I can do it after I buy one, I sent this one back sadly.
If you could choose one, this one or the 24-70?
24-70 but now I’m buying this for travel and a lighter zoom.
You are becoming Santa Klaus :)
is that the 33 Megapixel camera?
I wanted till today buy the 24-70 2.8 GM I for 1.000. But what I don’t like: loosing focus while zooming and the hard zoom ring. There is so much glass to move that you can not zoom while filming without shaking the camera, especially handheld or on a gimbal.
Could you compare both lenses?
I just ordered this lense after returning my 24-70 gm i, I’m not gonna lie I’ve been questioning the decision a lot but the lense was just so heavy
Waiting for the new 16-35 instead personally :)
You two should get a room!
Sold!
I may be buying two 😂
They threw focus by wire in the trash? Did I get this right? Nice!
how much money?
In Poland this lens is 1933$ with tax. Makes no sense. I can get Sigma 16-28 and 28-70 both F2.8 for that price here.
Good video, but I don't like the product out of focus like @ 8:50.
Nice video as always. Your wife is beautiful even without any makeup. My wife doesn't go anywhere without makeup. lol
With the compression of UA-cam the video looks soft ..
AGREE AGREE AGREEEEE ;)
I just don't buy lenses that have a high f-stop like this. I love the 1.4's I have and even a 1.2
After using a f4 kit lens and saving up for a 2.8 or lower zoom and primes. I get PTSD just thinking about going back to a F4.
Irrelevant if you are a landscape shooter.
Get a room!😀
Great review but the lens would be better if it was an F2.
And also more expensive
@@Qu.Z. and heavier
It would be even more better if it was f1.2 and was 10mm-600mm
I find it upsetting that I want everything you demonstrate.
Why f4

Not worth it, lack lots of features of the 16-35 f4 PZ (power zoom, lighter & internal zoom), and not as fast & sharp than the 24-70 gmii(yeah its pricer, but worth it)
‘Doesn’t break the bank’. Costs around 1k…
People are giving this lens a hard time for its price, but all things considered, I do think the lens is priced just right, at least in the US. I know I’m Europe it’s priced a bit too high.
and around $1500 USD in EU..
Does not do it all: the lens is not parfocal - it loses focus while zooming. The Sony Zeiss 24-70 does not.
No lens does it all.
Thank you nonetheless.
Too expensive for an f4. I would rather have the tamron 20-40. It should have been max $900. Insane broll though
I disagree, I think it’s properly priced. I’d rather have a first party lens that can go to 70mm, and also take advantage of the features that the latest Sony cameras support.
But does it work on my A99ii, A99, two A77iis, and A77?
Nope. Hard Pass for another product from the company that F'd over all of it's most loyal users.
Hey Sony - We're also Still Waiting [annoyed & impatiently] for the RX10 IV. **Sigh**
A mount was SLR mount not mirrorless .. all the big brands made new mounts for their mirrorless cameras
@@BigBampot - Yeah, *Unfortunately*...
I just didn't jump on the 'mirrorless bandwagon', since I didn't buy into the small size / low weight 'claims'. [They're just as big and heavy] No worries though, I still love my gear!
**I will not stray away from the type of screen 'hinge mechanism' that my cam bodies use..
Flip down / Spin combo. When Sony went w/ flip down Only - it was also a pretty hard pass.
I do a LOT of photography involving remote locations, 'the abandoned', and nature,
so having always dealt w/ extreme low-light-conditions..
The A7S [series] as always stood out to me. [I can still see grabbing 1 of those - eventually]
When ya have more go-to cams than one can carry on them at one time,
and more lenses, lens add-ons [like high end macro lighting and halo lighting] tha'n I can even keep track of, it's too hard to make a permanent switch..
I suppose there's always the 'slightly-limiting' E-To-A lens-adapters, if they're still a thing..
