I’ve tested the HP Pavilion 15 gaming laptop in 21 different games at all setting levels and compared it with other laptops to see how it stacks up. Unfortunately this isn’t the Ryzen model everyone wants to see as that was out of stock, but as you’ll see this one still does quite well for the specs in games.

The big Achilles heel for gaming laptop like this, is for the fact there's no way to boost the fan speed to keep it cool during long play sessions on a somewhat demanding games. Because they will not get colder by the minute.

Thing with lower core count is not about avg fps difference but how well it handles multitasking while gaming and how stable(not high) the frame rate is. Anyway if that saves you a buck and you are ok with closing the rest of applications while gaming it is an option

  • @nori6237

In our country here, they give RTX 2060 Max-Q combined with that 10300H.
Gaming wise it's superb, the high clock speed really did help this Core I5 attaining a decent result at multi core load.
Seriously, i underestimate it a bit, i though it wouldn't hold up good to some titles that put heavy load on CPU, but i was wrong.
If i'm going to rate it, it's providing great (not the best) experience (8.5/10 i would say) for gaming while still decent (6.5/10 because of those zen 2 chips) for work with CPU heavy application.
Well, i'm praising this SKU because in here it's about 300$ cheaper compared to the Core I7/Ryzen 7 + 90 watt RTX 2060.
While it's also still a bit faster than the typical Core I7 + 80 watt 1660ti variant in games which the cheapest one (Nitro 5 2019) here now it's about 46$ cheaper.
The Nitro 5 maybe cheaper, but it only have 1TB HDD compared to 512GB NVMe SSD in Pavilion 2060 Max-Q, so i guess Pavilion still win in this matter.
The only downside for gaming that i could find in this SKU is emulator power if we compare it to ryzen 5 4600h or last gen Core i7, but i don't think mainstream gamer would find this as a deal breaker.

Hi Jarrod, very timely video! I just ordered Lenovo Legion 5i i5 + 1660Ti because of a Black Friday offer but my intention was (and is) to go for the 4800H + 2060 config. I am still considering to cancel my order but from your test it seems that the i5 processor is not only able to handle most current games without much difference in respect of the more cores/threads provided CPUs, but actually the most critical aspect is to wisely choose the GPU model/version. That said, at the end in this devices class and price range the i5+1660Ti vs. I7/4800H+2060 difference seems not to be much significant. What do you think? (Of course productivity is another story...)

    • @hellofesam2636
      @hellofesam2636 3 роки тому

There’s barely a 10% difference between the 1660ti and 2060, and the 1660ti has better thermals so it will preserve your laptop longer so I’d keep it.

First advice: if you can wait a couple of months, then it's better to wait.
You just can't compare specs like that, tell which laptops you are looking at bcoz OEMs have different ways of configuring & managing the power/thermals.
A 115W 2060 is gonna be faster than anything below it but a good 1660Ti (80W) could beat a 60W 2060 MQ. But if you compare both at equal wattage, there's hardly any difference especially for the price premium.
Just check Jarrod's own video on 1660Ti vs 2060.

    • @yuyunoharu

DLSS 2.0 though. If the price difference is negligible to you then definitely get the RTX. Hell I bought an RTX 2060 i5-10300H in my country since it went on sale while the i5+GTX1660ti for some reason didn't and it ended up about $40 cheaper than the 1660ti

@@Solyarkin don't expect huge difference in gaming because of CPU(specially Intel), but ThunderBolt 4 is a major upgrade in terms of bandwith. So you can always get an eGPU which does not bottleneck very much.
With TB3, it bottlenecks eGPUs at least 20-30%
      P. S. In my 10th gen version, due to included power supply, battery slowly discharges while gaming on max settings. I think its possible to solve it by undervolting and capping CPU and GPU a little.
But overall, it's an amazing machine considering its price and form factor.
