Guns should exist, but in such distant future, the won't be any ammo left, so they should make it truly special, guns would be common (always broken to not make it too annoying to own many useless weapons but still present for realistic purposes) but they should let the possibility for the character to find secret hideouts where there will be around 2 magazines for a simple hand-gun. Thus making guns similar to the BFG-10000 in DOOM : a way to get out of an impossible situation.

wow, excellent video you pretty much sold me a copy, I didn't even realized they removed guns from this game, I think having guns for the later levels might be good, in sparingly short supply of ammo, I also agree about removing the the mini map. when i used to play GTA liberty city after awhile you learned all the locations and crevices alleys and such so you didn't need the mini map which made getting away from the cops and doing timed missions much easier by navigating by land marks alone.

The UI does seem super cluttered. Especailly with the prompts all over the place on everything. At the bare minimum I think they should remove health bars for at least your average fodder enemies and zombies. I get having them for some of the larger enemies and bosses, just so you have some idea of how much damage you are doing to them. But then again this could also be done through visual queues by just actually having the enemies become visibly damaged. Now that I think about it, this game probably could have benefitted a lot from a damage and dismemberment system for the enemies.

NOTE: TECHLAND DID NOT PAY ME OR PREVENT ME FROM SHARING ANY NEGATIVE OPINIONS ABOUT THE GAME.
A lot of people keep mentioning that I am not critiquing the game enough. Techland didn't tell me that I couldn't critique it and I genuinely didn't find many flaws with my experience playing the game. Many creators base their reviews off of what other people say, but I don't do that so I wrote this video without watching any other DL2 reviews other than the generic IGN one. I am a huge fan of the Dying Light franchise and these are my honest thoughts that I wrote down in my notes while I was at the event. So yes, I do have a bit of bias due to how much I love the first game, which could definitely allow me to MISS some things that other people find negative, but I definitely didn't see many problems with it. Again, this video is just talking about my thoughts and what you hear is exactly what I was thinking.

Just guns being in the game doesn't automatically make the game easier. Guns could certainly be balanced in a way in which they aren't super OP, probably through ammo scarcity since high health and bullet sponges wouldn't work well with the melee combat. It would make sense with the setting as well. But yeah, just having guns in the game does not immediately make the game easier if the game is properly balanced around those guns. The issue in the first game was just that it wasn't.
I'm assuming the lack of guns is explained through just the scarcity of the post-zombie world, but there are literally more civilian-owned guns in America than there are people. It would take quite a while before we completely ran out of guns and ammo. That being said I would be more bothered if there were no ranged weapons at all. Since there are still other ranged weapons and clearly the game is designed around guns not being a thing, I'm not too bothered by it. But I would like it if there were at least a few guns as super rare late-game items.

    • @ngythe1king
      @ngythe1king 3 роки тому +8

While I agree with you in terms of guns making things easy aspect, I personally think bullets would be extremely wasted during a zombie apocalypse. Definitely since most civilians don’t know or aren’t experience with guns. An average American civilian would waste 70-80% of their bullets on top of the 20-30% that actually hit a zombie won’t necessary mean it’ll kill a zombie

    • @e2rqey
      @e2rqey 3 роки тому +8

@@ngythe1king still has a whole lot of advantages over trying to kill a zombie with a melee weapon. The average person isn't going to be very keen on being anywhere near that close to zombie to attack them. Ranged weapons would have enormous value. You also underestimate the sheer quantity of ammunition that's out there. Even if all of it was gone, people would still be able to handload old brass and reuse it. And it wouldn't be that difficult to make new bullets. Still basically the last thing a normal person would want to do is put themselves within biting range of a single zombie much less a whole group of them. Also it's important to remember that we aren't really talking about "most people" in such a scenario. "Most people" in such a scenario are *already zombies* , those who are still alive are likely the ones who were able to effectively use firearms and other weapons to protect themselves. Or at least were capable of making good enough choices not to end up as a zombie. Sure in the beginning there would be a lot of ammo wasted, but those who survived would likely become at least competent with firearms relatively quickly and I am sure they would understand the value those weapons had and therefore the value that each bullet has. I mean there is a reason that ammunition was the currency in games such as Metro. While obviously the circumstances would vary significantly depending on where in the world you are, at least when it comes to the USA guns and ammo would be quite abundant for at least a couple decades. As of 2018, the USA was 4% of the world's population but possessed 46% of all civilian owned firearms in the world. At the minimum it would take multiple decades before firearms and ammo would become so rare that people would transition to melee weapons. That's assuming that people ever really would and wouldn't just use bow and arrows or build repeating crossbows Joerg Sprave style. When dealing with zombies ranged weaponry will always be in demand just due to the threat that zombies pose and how they attack.

Example, lfd1 and lfd2 in comparison with back 4 blood. In lfd series, everytime i shoot once at zombie with a high caliber rifle. I was quite surprised seeing that zombie still alive and quite angry. But in back 4 blood, seeing all the health bars is just kinda more arcade to me. It's more of a distraction than anything imo.

Absolutely, don't know if you've played Kingdom Come: Deliverance but that game handles the bow and arrow well in terms of balancing, in my opinion. Technically they're the most powerful in the game, one shot to the face and even the toughest enemies are down, but managing to actually hit skin through all the plate armour or chainmail is where the challenge lies.
I'd love to see that kind of hit detection implemented, where the game takes into account where exactly you hit them with your arrow/weapon and deal the damage accordingly.

I’m definitely looking forwards to DL2, but there are a few things I wish were different.
A big one is the HUD and UI, I feel that the DL1 UI was pretty spot on, not too complicated or overly detailed, easy to navigate (except for the crafting menu at times), and a general good look to it. The DL2 UI looks sorta dingy and very much out of place in my opinion.
Another criticism of mine is the complete removal of guns. It just doesn’t seem realistic to me. I feel it’d be both more realistic and more useful in gameplay to have just a few guns scattered across the map and just a little bit of ammo (like < 30 rounds in the whole game) scattered and locked behind levels and missions so as to not permit stockpiling.
This would make it really rewarding to find, and allow for a really useful tool, one to two hard hitting shots and then back to the knives it is. I suppose this could be comparable to a mini nuke and fat man in Fallout 4, though more scarce and less accessible at any one point in the game.
A third is user created content, DL1 has a great map editor and I had some good times making maps on it and trying to recreate real-world places in it. Hopefully DL2 will be similar.
Those things aside from all I can tell the game looks like it’ll be fantastic and will make up for the mediocrity of some of this year’s other AAA games. I’ll definitely be getting it, heck if that deluxe preorder thing is still open I’ll get that.

I think guns wouldn't actually be that realistic. If we imagine that time has went on for quite some time after the zombie outbreak most guns would have already been found and any ammo would have been used long ago. Sure, you could handload ammo, but in the long run parts would be too sparse for too little reward that it would just go back to more primitive yet accessible weapons like bows and the like.
Although I would like to see them declutter the HUD more to make it feel less arcadey (the zombie health Bars and colorful environment actually remind me of far cry new dawn a lot). And the movement also feels a bit too floaty and unrealistic with the 10 meter jumps across roofs and such. I prefer the drying light feel more for parkour as it's more realistic

Reading all these comments, I really hope Techland is reading and paying attention to them because while I am still excited for the game, you guys here in the comments bring up a few good points that I wouldn’t have noticed had you guys not mentioned them. One MASSIVE thing you guys brought up was the somewhat cluttered UI of the HUD, but more importantly, the unusual addition of enemy health bars. I’ve recently replayed DL on Hard and I realized extremely fast that early game weapons are NOT reliable for damage dealing. At first it annoyed me that I had no clue how many hits any one zombie could take before dying, but then I’d realize I was making Crane smash an infected’s head with a hammer over and over again and I’d think to myself, “Y’know, this actually makes me feel like I’m a desperate survivor.” Either I corner a zombie to shower it with enough hits to break its skull and my low level weapon with it, or I ignore combat entirely and opt just to keep running and circumventing the zombie crowds as best I can. What made this all special was that I didn’t know how much health my enemies still had. Here, adding enemy health bars feels about as intuitive as it was when they were implemented in the recent Assassin’s Creed games. It changed the combat of Assassin’s Creed from a delicate and lethal dance where one little mistake meant instant death for either you or your enemy, into a weird MMORPG where combat feels artificial and purely cosmetic in lieu of whose weapons deal the largest damage numbers. It’s not entirely dealbreaking for them to include this, but I feel the game would be infinitely more intuitive and engaging if they removed it.

After beating the game on hard mode and jumping into nightmare you find out even crazy end game weapons you get from prison raids still take like 2 dozen+ hits to kill zombies. This was pretty fun IMO because it forced you to utilize the environment and crane's skills to dispatch zombies instead of relying upon a weapon (i.e. grapple tossing a zombie into spikes or off a ledge, using environmental traps, drop-kicking a zombie into a group so you can stomp all their heads) It also encourages you to only engage infected when absolutely necessary as your killing ability is severely weakened.

Oh wait hold up, if you’re scared by DL1, then you’ve got a great opportunity to harden yourself by playing actual horror games, good ones.
And I’m not talking about overrated shit like outlast, I’ve got 3 games to recommend you:
      1. Amnesia The Dark Descent:
Possibly one of the best ways to get into the horror genre, the game plays with your expectations and has a very interesting story if you pay attention to it. It is also really well paced, you’ll be rewarded for progressing through difficult areas and you’ll want to keep going.
The gameplay is also very simplistic so you don’t have to worry about complex mechanics and give up in the face of danger just because you’d think you could do whatever is required to survive. I’d also recommend Amnesia for the story alone, even if you don’t have the stomach to get through the game, listen to the diaries online, it’s a fascinating horror story
      2. Soma:
Possibly one of the best Sci Fi stories ever written, it’s very similar to Amnesia mechanically, but the game is focused around player choice. It’s very high-concept, and just like Amnesia, I would recommend Soma for the story alone. The game rewards you if you pay attention to details and makes your mind go wild.
      3 Alien Isolation:
This one, unlike the other two, is not so much story focused but gameplay focused. It is one of the few games I refuse to ever play with a VR mod. It doesn’t have any cheap scares, just a very impressive AI for the alien that stalks you through the whole game. It’s like Bioshock but with a nemesis-type adversary constantly hunting you.
This one is the most anxiety-inducing and I would recommend it last, also, play this one on Easy, The normal difficulty feels unbalanced and the Hard one is outright bullshit.

I'd personally hate if they nerfed the bows and crossbows. Headshots should be instant kills unless you're going up against special infected like a Volatile.
Guns not being in the game is a bit silly but it's whatever.
As for the parkour being floaty, I agree but I feel like it's for a good reason. With how large the areas are, you need to be able to jump further than what you'd expect. I feel like once people start playing it they'll get used to it.

You can turn off the health bars. The hud is fully customizable so you can choose to play with as much immersion as you want. I’m probably going to turn off the health bar and not use the survival sense as much. I’m going to try to learn how to spot searchable items. I realize that will probably mean I will overlook some loot but I feel like In the first 5 hours of gameplay it was getting a bit repetitive and slowing things down.

But you’re telling me in this one a random guy has to show up and claimant how does that make sense... i’m just imagining some random guy climbing up to the top of a windmill and just yelling out I claim this windmill and then a bunch of people just come up and start setting up I Camp why wouldn’t they do that before you climbed to the top it would make sense if there was zombies but from how you said it it didn’t sound like there was zombies

It feels wrong but don't know why, personally I absolutely love the look of the floaty parkour and most likely will love the feel of it when I get the game. The story seems interesting which is rare for games these days, the outposts seem fun, and it doesn't look like a game that was made to just make money. Overall excited for the release and hope the hud is very customizable!

Man, I got to address my concerns. To be perfectly honest, so far the game looks pretty good. I'm not concerned so much with, will it be a good game, as I am concerned for where this franchise is heading. I've been thoroughly enjoying Tech-Land games for years. I was a huge fan of Dead Island when I played that and probably played through it a dozen times and put probably at least 500-600 hours into that game and its sequel/expansion "riptide". When Dying Light was announced so little was known about it. I remember seeing the trailer and having so many questions. It was a fairly new concept with the free running and the graphics were also really well done. When I finally got to play it, it was just so good and it felt so fresh. I also remember them hyping up a dead island 2 only to basically can it after some time and its never been released. This tells me that the success of Dying light changed their focus. Dying light in a way put Tech-land on the map. It is essentially their Call of Duty 4, or their Far-cry 3. So my concerns are, how much has actually changed with this game from the last one. Im not talking about superficial shit like what kind of skills you can get or how the graphics compare or what weapons are in the game and so on. I want to know, does it actually feel fresh? Nd is this going to be Tech lands prized pony of a franchise, which they will beat to death and replicate for years to come only to become yet another AAA company that becomes.... meh. Like Ubisoft, Activision and EA

I personally feel the removal of guns makes sense, either way most of the time you wouldn’t use the guns in dying light because of how they they attracted hoards of zombies. My biggest issue with the gameplay we’re seeing is the hud, I feel like there are way too many prompts and it looks a little cluttered, I also feel like the health bars makes the game feel a little arcade like and makes beating up zombies a little less satisfying. Overall, the gameplay still looks really fun and satisfying and I feel like exploring this new world will be an experience worth the price tag

The lack of stealth in the first game was a bummer so not having it in this game is sad. I also think removing guns is a bad move.
