I am a Canadian Mid Distance/Distance coach and I absolutely love this video. What I can appreciate is that he does EVERYTHING. From mechanical focus, plyometrics, posterior chain work, and pace change in and outs with extreme relaxation and control. In my experience too many coachs have not subscribed to the HOW the task is performed or the not so obvious elements of that tasking. I once had a very prominent endurance coach say "Distance runners don't junp, why would they need to" when talking about plyometrics and explosive movements. I remember thinking there is something so wrong about that thought process. Although I have been a huge Clayton Murphy for a number of years this is the first pro training video I have seen and I am already impressed by the video itself the running and the access he has given. A lot of pros put out a lot of crap, this is certainly not that crap! Thank you for good and informative content!
Today was a Euro opener in Hungary (3rd place 1:45:20), but watch for Monaco on Friday - it's going to be big! monaco.diamondleague.com/en/programme-resultats-monaco-en/
There is no magic, just hard, intelligent work and, of course, a fair amount of talent(who would even try to pursue a career without some talent anyway?)
A lot is made of the efficient running stride of most African runners.....I have to say that Clayton Murphy has the most efficient and powerful gait...looks so relaxed as if the power can easily be unleashed at any time w/o much strain.
I just ran my first ever 800m on a track yesterday, only clocked a 2:55. this is a helpful video !!! Time to chip a minute of my time now :). You are awesome 😎
Iam an upcoming 800m runner and I thank sir Murphy for sharing your full day work out. Yooo you are such a workerholic guy the work ethic confused me a lot. From track to weight lift 🤝🏾🤝🏾🔥
@@ClaytonMurphy800 absolutely of course yeah I mean, I'm gonna workout just like that. Because I have come to believe it from you that it's the only way out. Double workout am totally crazy with that one.
Hey Clayton: really enjoy your videos, and your candor. Wishing you a successful Olympics, and hope you, Issiah, and Bryce bring it home for us. I was wondering if upon your return, you could share your prerace olympic experiences, such as the warmup track, the calling of the athletes to their qualifying rounds, and warmup, check-in, and waiting( in the staging room) before your olympic final. So many world-class runners share their race experiences, but few give us the inside look into what happens in the hours leading up to their olympic races. I think it would be so helpful to know what you're going thru the moments before your olympic races, what you're feeling, how you interact with your competitors. ATB! Wally
More aggressive probably. Maxfly has a full length spike plate while victory only has a forefoot plate. Most pros use more aggressive spikes than are intended for the event. Mo Farah ran 10ks in victory elites instead of matumbos and I think Donovan usually uses the superfly elite or a 400 spike for the 800 instead of the victory.
Love these videos all of America is rooting for you! I’m curious how your build up to the 2020 trials was different from 2016, or if you approached it in the same way?
For weight training is it always full body, or are there upper body and lower body ways. What’s the difference between weight training days on easy or hard running days
Hey Clayton, I think that your vids could be so much cooler if not only showed the workouts but also the behind the scenes stuff, eg. what you have for breakfast, what you do in leisure time... Good luck on your running and You Tube career!
Hey guys, so I’m a freshman. Cross Country just ended and coach wants us to take at least 2 weeks off from running. Winter track starts soon, and I want to start preparing for my events to run as fast as possible. (Mostly the 800 and 1600) any tips on how to improve on my 2 weeks off from running?
Top editing says to me whatever you rubbed on your kneecaps went into the drink. You can't be too careful people getting banished over blue plate special burrito. Eagerly waiting for bronze to turn gold over here
Can you show your weekly weight room routine,I myself as a 800/middle distance runner know the weight room is a key part but I don’t have a steady consistent schedule to follow
Work on both top end, pace work, and strength. All components allow for more speed, just cause you can run fast top end doesn’t matter as much as being able to run strong through 600m and still close well
I didn't understand that either. It's not clear what the benefit would be to stopping at 280 versus doing 300, when the 300 m distance is already marked on the track, and you have to get out a wheel and set up cones to measure 280.
I enjoyed this (as an old like 40 years ago 880/800 runner). Great camera work but the music is a bit jarring. Sounds a little a slightly annoying synth band from the 80s. But if this is what u young fellows listen to now. 😀
What would be cool is if you broke everything down with time of day. Almost a day in the life, so we could see how a pro plans out their day.
Agreed
Tokyo? There must be some mistake. LetsRun assured me "Clayton Murphy is DONE!" back in February.
What?
Great comment
lolllll
Don’t trust letsrun
Got to be some shoe geeks out there. Would love to see your typical shoe rotation and maybe some all time favs or some of the collection.
Rooting for you at the Olympic Games this year!
Great video. On the way to gold!
Love these videos. Props to you for putting Olympic-level training here on youtube. Good luck in Tokyo!

Wishing you the best Clayton. Your a great example to show that you have done great things, and will continue to with consistency and patience.

Congrats on the trials Clayton! Loved watching you run & love your videos too!!
Inspiring. Runners will be able to benefit from seeing this for generations.
Cant wait to see some PR's in Tokyo!
Coolest distance runner out there
I went to that high school! many memories. Actually very nice track.
Been waiting weeks for a new video!

Could you explain why you wear the maxfly and Not the air Zoom victory?
^^agreed

Could please show us more about your strength training workout? Thanks a lot!

Smooth as silk!

I will use this to try and qualify for regionals, then hopefully nationals. (13 years old). Will it work?
Clayton, would you please let us know more about your Irish roots? Thanks.
Weekly training routine
Cool stuff😎
watching this made my legs tired
Nice video! How does your weight training change throughout your season? Or is this what you normally do?
Sub 1:43 in Monaco!
And koi.protien.ya.enargy.drink.bataiye
Greatness 👏🥂
The best 800m 👌😎✊
What brand/model of spikes are you wearing?
You have some of the smoothest form in the game.
What’s your diet like Clayton? And what tunes are you listening to when you warm up?
Cool stuff!
Can you show your weekly weight room routine,I myself as a 800/middle distance runner know the weight room is a key part but I don’t have a steady consistent schedule to follow
What is the reason for doing weights after not before? I have read pros and cons in regards and doing it on hard days.
@ Clayton Murphy awesome video can’t wait for more anyway you can get me some team USA gear the new uniform and bottoms thanks
I'd rather hear the raw audio, but I'll still watch nonetheless
Clayton, I enjoy your videos and congrats on going to Tokyo. Has anyone ever told you you look like the twins from Dude Perfect?
what is in and outs, accelerate coast accelerate
Do you use the maxflys for an 800m race?
can you tell me rest between reps and sets?? also how tall are y and bodyweight in season ??
What was the Panera order tho
What do u mean with ins and outs? I do not understand it
how do you advise working on speed for an 800m runner?
Work on both top end, pace work, and strength. All components allow for more speed, just cause you can run fast top end doesn’t matter as much as being able to run strong through 600m and still close well
@@ClaytonMurphy800 thank you! Good luck today
clayton are those the airpods you forgot before u went to europe lol
What’s the reason for running 280s instead of 300s?
What is your timing in800 miter..
Sir.mujhe.1500m.ka.weekly.elite.traning.program.deegie.please
Are you going to do any 1500’s leading up to the olympics
He’s not
What’s the point of 280s? 300s seem a lot simpler
what watch is clayton wearing? haha
I like without music the raw.
How often do you do this kind of training?
Why 280 and not 300?
I wonder why they chose 280 instead of something standard like 300, interesting
I didn't understand that either. It's not clear what the benefit would be to stopping at 280 versus doing 300, when the 300 m distance is already marked on the track, and you have to get out a wheel and set up cones to measure 280.
My guess would be to practice for people cutting infront on the bell lap but I could be very wrong
So the change of pace is 40m, so 280m allows for the sequencing of changing paces to work. Nothing crazy, just allows reps to be smooth
@@ClaytonMurphy800 That makes sense, thank you. I enjoy your content.

For Ohio!!
Do you run the 800m In sprint spikes?
I made a whole video about what spikes I wear, check it out on the channel!
I so wonder for you every before workout you drink something like powder .?:)
Just curious: What's the significance of the 280 meters (as opposed to an established distance like 400)?
My guess would be to simulate the kick. The last part of the race. Speed training for the 800m. I used to run the 800m in HS.
Howd ur race go today?
Can we have a day in the life
Lebaddie is a baddie 😎
Can i please have a Nike training t-shirt really a big fan🙏
Dork
Q
Dude what is up with this music? Do you actually listen to this stuff?
Music choice is awful, sorry
