In this video titled EU4 A to Z - I Turned Italy Into A MILITARY DICTATORSHIP I play as Milan in Europa Universalis 4 1.35 Domination. This is the series titled A to Z where I attempt to play every* nation in EU4 in alphabetical order. Of course I had to remove some nations so the challenge doesn't get too boring. In this video I play as the nation of Milan and I attempt to form Italy, conquer all of the region of Italy and become a military dictatorship. So, let's see if I managed to do it! I hope you guys enjoy this series. If you enjoyed this video consider leaving a like and subscribing for more content in the future.

Shouldn't Ming be next
I'd say the challenge assuming such should be this, referencing bunk psuedohistory books 1421 and 1434
Main Challenge, Establish 3 colonial nations in North America (Based on 1421)
Optional, side challenge, Have a vessal reach Italy by sea. (Based on 1434)
That code makes you sound like a call of duty youtuber lmao
I assume Ming is next, so again i suggest you to dismantle the HRE because there can only be one true empire
Now CoD is basically advertised by everyone in UA-cam it gets annoying
Castile never pushes into Italy this early unless you're playing in Italy it drives me insane.
Fax
Poland only ever beats Russia when I'm playing as Brandenburg.
I'm playing as the Pope, and the Otto-man got the three remaining Naples provinces from France. Now I'll have to build a giant galley fleet to take the provinces back.
Ming never implodes when playing in India/Japan
@@larstruelsen2483that's true but I found in my most recent qing game that it can be good for them to not explode because then you can keep using them as a bank and their army is still really weak.
Watching A to Z is actually one of the best ways to improve at EU4, I can confirm that
Me: * starts video *
Hawk: * inhales sharply *
Me: "Oh this one's gonna be good."
After you finish A to Z you should play a campaign starting at each different “suggested starting bookmark”, not just 1444
Too bad most of them are broken bookmarks
We need some Dzungaria representation on UA-cam
@@jasonbeaton9376makes sense, paradox built around 1444 for as long as I can remember
1453 is pretty interesting
I wouldn’t mind seeing him explore other popular mods.
"Let me have breakfast and I will get to it" You can't conquer Italy with an empty stomach
I laughed so hard when he said "Da Vinkee??"
...Da Vinci wasn't the one who painted to Sistine chapel ceiling, that was Michelangelo.
Glad someone else noticed lol
I'm surprised you weren't going for Trent. I know the idea was to not go beyond the Italy region, but Trent is just so powerful to control access to Italy. I always go for it when doing an Italy run.
Trent is italy
@@adolfhipsteryolocaust3443 Only because of Napoleon. It's part of Tirol.
@@dutchuncle2716nope, Trent had alway a predominant italian population, south tirol/Bolzano is the part who got annexed thanks to Napoleon but trent itself is italian
@@StarstycThe Trent province in Eu4 is part of mostly south tiral though, eventhough it's named after trent. It's also int he tirol state in game. And not in the Italy region.
@@dutchuncle2716 that's because the develloppers didn't split the province in 2 like they should, and since it's named Trent then by logic it should be in the italian reagion (even tough they didn't, so I hope that in future they fix that by splitting in 2 the province)
Fun Fact: Ludovico Maria Sforza was actually the name of brother of Francesco Sforza who initially sided with the Ambrosian Republic. I don't know if is intended in the game to have a choice for him in the Republic or not
In my latest run as Milan, I speedran the Ambrosian Republic and military dictatorship because I wanted to be eligible for the Burgundian Inheritance so it was a turbulent few years for northern Italy.
I take it you got it?
That 5/4/5/4 is probably the best general I've seen come from these kind of events.
Merwar sounds like more wars! So for the next challenge, every time you declare a war, you have to declare a second war on another nation.
There’s an achievement called “Mewar never changes”
That giggle when you allied the ottos then followed by "I'm going to kill you" is something I've felt myself when theres a big spain.
da vinky? i got what you did there xD
those rulers were absolutely appalling. Even with high army trad. Paradox needs to buff alot of these unique gov reforms if they really want people to consider using them.
@TheRedHawk I'm pretty under the military dictatorship, the higher your army tradition, the more guaranteed monarch points your rulers will have.
So it pays to constantly be at war and engage in large battles.
24:34 DA VINKY?
You didn't need to dev up the provinces in Lombardy for that mission. You needed dev in provinces that are Lombard culture, so you could have just converted some provinces to Lombard
May the Sforza be with you! Great job!
Hawk that "oooohhh dude" at the beginning really got me excited for the video! I wonder what will happen!/s
It's already been figured out that Hesse always becomes the Emperor because of the diplo rep in their national ideas. Now why is it always Savoy who gets excommunicated?
Pope rivals
24:12
starts to play ''can you feel my heart''
You led me down the Google rabbit hole looking up the history of the rather amazing Francesco Sforza. Thanks!
Italian history in this period is so crazy it would never fly as fiction.
4:08 I believe Austria has been at least suggestively coded to rival Milan in this patch, especially if Milan is a player nation. I believe this may be to help simulate the conflicts that occurred in Northern Italy between Austria and France during the early stages of the game that basically set the stage for the historical rivalry between the two nations that would lead to France joining the Protestants during the Thirty Years War.
5:48 A big problem with the Milanese mission tree is that so many of the buffs are temporary, and they don't even really last that long, and some of them aren't even that good. Additionally, the Mission Tree doesn't flow well at all. It wants you to fight Genoa and Venice ASAP and that can be a real problem because both of those nations are reasonably difficult to deal with early game, especially Venice who WILL fucking merc up and hire Condottiere from your rivals, especially Austria and France.
6:56 The disaster can still fire if you get a regency council later. I think it can fire up until the Age of Reformation because you get a mission that lets you permanently stop it once you reach that I believe. Kinda like England's War of the Roses mission.
19:34 Yes you get tons of these. If they fire at the right times, you can basically guarantee a 6/6/6 ruler at all times as the Military Dictatorship if you have high military tradition and no other generals. For this reason, Offensive and Defensive (because they improve your generals' pips) are really strong as the Military Dictatorship. Defensive in general is actually pretty good because it stacks Defensiveness, Fort Maintenance and Attrition for your upgraded forts, tradition gain and maneuver pips for your generals, and stacks morale with your government passive. Despite the nerfs, Defensive Ideas are still pretty good situationally. Merc Ideas are also surprisingly strong for Milan as well, the only thing holding this idea group back from being one of the best in the game is that Mercs fucking suck right now.
27:50 You need high military tradition as well for them to be good rulers. Because you keep your forts mothballed, you're losing alot of military tradition.
The formula for Mil dictatorship rulers is this: Monarch skill depends on Fire, Shock and Maneuver pips. (Siege pip is irrelevant!)
For each monarch skill the formula is (RND(0-3) + RND(0-3)) * (9 + Fire + Shock + Maneuver) / 18 rounded down.
In human language the quality of the general can push the average 3 3 3 monarch points either up or down. It is a "push", the numbers don't directly come from the pips!!!! A 6 6 6 x general can be a 1 1 1 monarch.
This is the reason why early game you have such a horrible rulers. Because if a general doesn't have a minimum 9 pip (excluding siege) you get malus.
Bro, make a video guide about dalmatia, amazing ideas which gives player a chance to conquer Mediterranean sea ao fast
It’s going to show up in both releaseables and A-Z when he gets to Ragusa
You became the fez-wearing Italian man
I got Lux Stella in my Belisarius run as Byzantium today, around 1510. I felt so lucky, the only thing that makes it feel slightly less lucky is that my man gets an even better best option, lmao.
I like that you took the Blasphemy Act while at war with the Pope.
In the beginning, you said that not many countries can become a military dictatorship but every republic can. You just need to reelect your rulers until you have low republicanism. Then, an event will happen that allows you to become a military dictatorship. I actually think you have done that in the past iirc
That’s a presidential dictatorship. Which is different
In my run I went Aristo Infra Pluto. My army quality sucked with no discipline, but my dev was insane.
Milan is so fun to play, though usually I keep the Ambrosian Republic bc it's pretty good and the LARP potential is immaculate!
Turning Italy into a military dictatorship ?
What a bold new concept!
Oh my God!!! He really did it!!!
I was planning to do a hoi4 italy campaign with benito and this is the first video that popped up
That maniacal laugh when he could ally the Ottomans. It was beautiful.
as Mewar this is my suggestion, build up until 1550, at the mark january 1st, pick the 1st and 2nd great powers in the list and declare on them 2, the trick is, you gotta cobelligerate all their allies and all allies that come with them too, cobelligerate everyone that pops up in the list. if you lucky, only a couple of nations you are at war with, if not, you are fighting against the entire world.
try to survive 10 years in them wars, no conceding.
Good luck
"Da vinki?"
Lmao, why did that make me laugh so much
Best EU4 UA-camr by FARRR
If you take the second government reform Meritocratic Rule, you may get female generals, and in turn get women elected to rule your nation. Had that happen to me in a recent playthrough and was thoroughly surprised.
I think, this Episode of A to Z was also a great guide.
"CodMonster" sounds like a great plan for when you get to Norway: become the nation that trades the most fish.
Great vid. Always fun to watch, while having breakfast. About the next video, I sugest, you should do the opposite of what happened historicaly to the Kingdom of Mewar ( They became the strongest North Indian state, before the Mughal invasion). So you should pull the uno reverse on the Mughals/Timurids and annex the whole Persia Region and also annexing the whole of Norden India by 1526 if possible (When the Mughal invasion of India commenced in our timeline).
Idea for the Lucca situation (may or may not work): if Florence wants the province and hasn't built up AE yet, you might ally Florence, attack Genoa, and peace out Lucca by giving him to Florence. Afterwards you can conquer Florence. Of course, only works if Florence wants it, has the AE to spare, etc.
Cool Bonobo my beloved
I really like Plutocratic Ideas. I almost always take them if I play a republic.
For some more original and interesting ideas, as some swiss nation you can take most of each country with your culture ( french/italian/german, so you can take parts of south Germany, northern Italy, and the south of France) and then colonize Argentina, as a lot of people from the region migrated there.
Did the guy whos post you saw on reddit happen to have the name Sheldorium because I did just post an italian unification in about 50 years a couple days ago 😅
Anyways nice video as always
Yup that was you lol
@@TheRedHawk That’s cool, never occurred to me you might see some of the posts there.
I‘ve basically learned the game through your guides so could not have done that ridiculous campaign as Naples without you lol.
Could've just released Florence from Arezzo earlier for 31:10 peace deal. the re-conquest AE would be peanuts cuz of their cores! Milan's always fun to play and watch tho 👌
I’m in Italy on holiday rn. Beautiful place with good food but the legacy of facism is everywhere. There are lots of old infrastructure projects Mussolini built in the 1920s. I even saw a copy of mein Kampf at a book shop.
if im not wrong your ruler stats are based on army tradition and general pips so offensive is like best idea w that
"France wouldn't join because..."
Accepting would destabilize France: -100
Attitude towards enemies: -60
"Attitude"
I find this humorous
Could you please show at the end of video how the continent you are playing on looks like after your campaign?
Come on, hawk… This was THE run for Inno, Espionage and Offensive. Great video though
14:40 not the Pinocchio lmfao
Da... Da... DA VINKY???!!! name of the greatest inventor of Italy butchered to sound like an admiral who is secretly a pig that can wink, I just can't XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
29:26 You could have released Florence from Arezzo as a Vassal to reconquer their cores from Spain to avoid AE.
Greetings. Thank you for all your videos, they help me understand this game better.. Maybe not the place to post or ask this. I started a Timurids campaign based on your last guide and Ming is at my doorstep via the hordes. They haveany tributiries and keep mandate high. Would appreciate tips on how to blow them up so I can keep playing without fearing them. Thank you for your/anyones help. Have a great day.
Cool Bonobo
Can you please do a wallachia guide, it’s the one nation, i’m constantly struggling with
“Hmmmmm I wonder where I’ve seen this before…”
Didn't you just do a mewar campaign? Just curious.
He gotta keep pace or he's never finishing this series, lmao
that 6/6/4 heir. I'm crying
Trent is part of Italy tho, so you should take it?
That thumbnail tho 💀
I went defensive, diplo, admin, humanist to stack improve relation modifiers
Good vid, but how would you beat the Ottoblob as this Italy ?
1. Allie Commonwealth
2. Wait until Ottomans are fighting in the East
3. Block the straight
4. Sit on Constantinople
I'm surprised by how well you pronounced Brescia
As Ming, be the emperor of HRE
That evil laugh with the Ottoman alliance lmao.
I got military dictatorship as saluzo I had the most powerful troops in the game I got it by royal marring and making them give me their heir as my heir. And then there tooo weak to keep me as a subject so free land. Also saluzo has a lot of things that reduce AE I think I got 40% may be 50% off ae
I LOVE that you suffered the true issues of a military dictatorship; great generals are 95% of the time terrible national leaders.
"Military Dictatorship. I like that. I like that a lot." -Red Hawk, 2023
Fun fact: "Terracina" can sound in italian as "ChinaLand"
A Italian classic
Me, an italian, as I hear about "italian dictatorship"
Ah shit, here we go again....
I would love to see Ming become holy Roman emperor
The most passive france ever
I am very not shocked that military dictators are not good rulers.
hey hawk just wanged to point something out, sometimes and ONLY when I play milan i get a 6,6,6 talented daughter and get depressed. HOWEVER sometimes you can keep her as the republican ruler and continue having them as the leader + political dynasties means that essentially the Visconti Dynasty lives on as a republic. TL;DR there is a chance for a previous ruler to become republican
Alright alright 😂
Da vinki?!
@TheRedHawk
You can get the Ambrosian Republic to fire by having Legitimacy below 75. All you need to do is choose a good moment to fire and royal marry a bunch of nations. A few months of losing diplomatic mana and then you are a Republic and the royal marriages end.
No need to disinherit.
Mewar? Didn't you do Mewar before?
DaVinci - hope he got to paint some ceilings?? Snort
So happy my man Bussolini gets some representation
Bussylini
Аs Ming own Manhatan, rename it Chinatown and have it as your capital and most developed province in the world
Don't like one piece but rooting for this guy. Hope it is good
The guy who painted the ceiling is Michelangelo not Leonardo
I'm pretty sure those are the Ninja Turtles not painters.
i want play as mexico can you make toturail (Not Mexico in the 1800s scenario, but the Mexico we established with Portugal/Castile in the 1444 scenario)
mitigating a coalition by allying poland is my fav gender
Trent tho? ;)
Idk why Milan always must have event for ultra heir
Side note fascist Italy was both a monarchy and a civilian run government not a military dictatorship
Mussolini would be proud of you maaan
Why did the end show Mewar? Shouldn't Ming be next? 38:00
22:04 how can you that my allies always chosee other side and i cant attack my allies allies
This always hurts me, there is absolutely no reason not to get more land in your first war. It’s same culture group same religion same trade node, it’s awesome land. Take the land now and having it making you money and manpower. While the AE is ticking down.
6:50 - So it was an offer you couldn't refuse?
You made the secret dream of a lot of Italians true. Even if it's only a game
Having forming military italy as a final successful goal with mussolini on the thumbnail is very ahistorical.
...it implies Mussolini was ever successful at anything
