Second story. Why would a restaurant ask for partially eaten food back...? Gross.. They can't re-serve it when someone has already eaten from it, they have to throw it away anyway so let it be eaten. The correct thing to do would be the restaurant says nothing to the table they gave a free cake to and they make a new cake for the other table and apologize profusely for the delay. The server, or another staff member, made a mistake, and any good business should own that, absorb the cost, and make the customers happy. What was that drama even for? 😩 Restaurant is the AH, not OP.
Story 3: I don't think this is executive disfunction. It seems more like weaponized incompetence. It's possible that it starred out innocently enough, but at this point, they are refusing to take responsibility for their own life.
It's more like "If we refuse to leave, they'll have no choice but to let us stay" kind of power play. They're entitled assholes and irresponsible to put their kids in this situation by not finding a safe place for them to stay/live.
Yeah I planned entire wedding in 6 weeks because the husband wanted it. And that included wedding shower, bachelorette party, the gorgeous dress, the chapel and the 100 people reception at a lovely venue with husband and I sharing a room at said place after event, plus honeymoon! And yes as a working girl (read 35 years of nursing which I just retired) so he and I paid for all.
Story #4: It strikes me that the girlfriend just wanted an excuse to break up with OP and not be the bad guy. OP is not the bad guy since he did communicate his plans and she tried to manipulate him.
No. Boyfriends & girlfriends, fiancee, and even some spouses, normally get very upset with how hard a military life can be because they will never be first. Plus the leaving never gets easier. Signed, A vet wife & army brat.
In Story 1, could be the mother had her wishes overridden by her family or MIL and decided that meant she got to make her daughter’s choices as a way to have what she wants in some wedding.
Story 7: yes, it was sorta bad of her to give the friend that ultimatum, but the friend waited until 2 DAYS before she was suppost to move in. She should have told her earlier, so OP could have had more time to get a new roommate and it wouldn't have been such a big deal, because OP wouldn't have been this desperate. So for me this is ESH.
Nope. Their choice. Their life choices, over last 4 me the included, is their choice and their responsibility. Support them by helping them to get going again and get out
Story 1 I'd say ascon one, shit talking about your child on a day thats ment to be about them because you couldn't make it about you and calking YOUR CHILD a Narcissist. .
When this idea stealing happends again and again….. ceep it to your self when you know they’re like this, then you be first and they clearly copy you. You have great taste and ideas when this happends
OP's mom sure knows how to ruin a moment. OP is not the AH

I think it was a cake the other party brought with them. Not made by the restaurant.

@@valdenay7264 still doesn't change her trying to manipulate him

She sounds very insecure. She's the AH. He dodged the bullet and should consider himself lucky.

On the final story, it could be a coincidence. The barn one was certainly inspired by their idea, but the others are likely just a coincidence.
Let the SIL build the dream, and then when SIL realises she doesn't want it, buy it and redo it?
