Welcome Kuga to my area of Western Canada, I will tell you a fun fact, this train and it's train cars you were travelling in are from the year 1954, for 4 generations, my family has rode this train in the exact same cars since 1956, my grand parents (rip), my parents (rip) , myself and my brothers family and his kids!! The train might be old, but still holds a very classic way, train travel used to be like!! I am happy you got to enjoy the Canadian train, the Canadian landscape and the Canadian food!!
Hi Kuga , I love train travel also ,if you ever want a "Super Host " I will show you the sites. My dream to visit Japan. 😅 Camping in B. C. Is very popular as well. Happy,Safe Travels 🥾🚝🚝🚝🚅🚄🇨🇦🪶
Thank you Kuga, this brings back good memories as I rode the Canadian from Vancouver to Toronto and back to Vancouver in June of 2023, what an amazing lourney.
I am shocked. The landscape is beautiful. But I didn't expect that the Canadian trains and stations would be so far behind the rest of the world. Those trains look like the 1950's in Europe. Thanks for the video. You have a fine sense of humor.
Perhaps you are unaware that most Canadians never travel in those trains. Canadian governments look after their people, not a very few who travel in these expensive but old trains. These trains are run by private companies. Most Canadian travel by cars or buses.
May be a carryover from 1950s era trains…they have been remodeled twice. Actually nice looking cars from the outside..staring at the toilet not as popular an option nowadays.
I'm really sorry about the food and how the plane is so expensive Kuga, as a Canadian I can't even afford to travel in my own Country lol Glad you got too, Thank you for visiting Canada!
"Lets just stare at this pumpkin soup to rediscover myself. This meal is a reflection of myself more than any mirror. I am a pumpkin soup and the pumpkin soup is myself." I think Kuga has been watching too many old episodes of 'Monkey'!
Love your comments. I went on the Canadian this summer and then the Ocean to Halifax. The old Budd cars on the Canadian are much more comfortable than the Renaissance cars and the food on the Canadian was much better. Both my trains were late : the Canadian was 8 hours late into Toronto and the Ocean was only 90 minutes late. The Renaissance cars are getting very tired and I gather that they are on the way out but the Budd cars although being much older gave a much better experience. Although travelling solo, i didn’t like the idea of the toilet in the middle of the room, so I had a bedroom which has two moveable chairs which collapsed and go under the bed at night. Epic journeys though and this video brought it back with the Kuga magic comments
Except when you have to go in the middle of the night. Then it's a pain in the butt. You have to fold your bed up, stepping out into the hall, then you use the toilet and remake the bed. Ya, no thanks. I just went from Vancouver to Jasper so it wasn't too bad, but I wouldn't want to travel all across Canada in that set up.
When eating a pie there was a technique where I grew up where you cut the pie (beef mince or steak, topped with tomato sauce) into may bite sized pieces before eating which results in a brown, red and golden mixture of ingredients that we referred to as either a plane crash or a train wreck. Either way, you only needed a fork to eat it and it was delicious.
Your channel has done so much for me and my family! We had a trip to japan planned, then COVID hit and we could not travel. but we got to see Japan through your trips on ferries and trains. Thank you so much for giving and continue giving what Japan looks like and how to travel! Domo Arigatogozaimasu!
Hi there, I’m a new subscriber and this is a wonderful adventure from Vancouver to Montreal! I have watched several o r you r videos and they are all superb ! Thank you for all the excitement that you have conjured! Best Wishes, Peter
TY Kuga, your vlog does us honor, and good humor. Sorry the rails are out on Vancouver Island,a trip I have done many times when younger, but there is still smaller tracks operating in Port Alberni on our western side, closest in Canada to Japan. ;)
I really enjoyed this video. I'm taking the Canadian in sleeper class from Toronto to Edmonton in a week and economy class from Edmonton to Kamloops and back over Christmas. I really want to go from Halifax to Vancouver by train - maybe next year.
Ah...I was wondering what someone in a sleeper cabin would do if they needed to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. :-) And...amusing that instead of a 'mere' Continental breakfast that you'd get in a hotel, here you get a *Trans*-Continental one. :-)
I a, glad you got through Jasper before a substantial amount was burnt down…this is a trip I would like to catch one day…not cheap, but lovely..drives home how big the country is.
I am also impressed you managed to eat one of those Hygard hamburger, you were being generous on its taste quality. Gas station burger. Butter chicken seemed much better.. this train is the closest thing to riding a train in 50s. Not much change to these cars…clean and maintained though. Frozen food in Japan is comparatively wonderful.
I am Canadian, born and raised. Been to Japan many times and got so used to or spoiled by the trains there. Sadly I cannot get myself to take the VIA trains.
4 is cursed in Japan? How interesting! 4 has always been my favorite number (but I'm in New England!) eta: I'm so jealous, because I would seriously love to do this trip someday....what a beautiful train and a beautiful way to travel! (I love Canada!)
4 is shi in japan and china which also means death (someone cmiiw), 4th row of seat or 4th floor is usually omitted or replaced by 3a in some part in asia
Love the video! Awesome train journey! I don’t understand what was going through the designer of these cabins to put toilets right in front of the seats 😂
To eat a pie I like to remove the top crust carefully and when the filling has cooled enough that it won't burn the roof of my mouth I use the top crust pieces to scoop out the filling then the base can be picked up and eaten without the filling falling out.
😀The distance from Vancouver to Montreal is around 3,800 km, and it takes 8 days. The average speed is less than 20 km per hour, which is almost as slow as a turtle. It goes back to the experience of human trains 100 years ago.
Stunning scenery - I wouldn't expect anything less from Canada, but a toilet in your sleeper cabin AND shared dining?! 😳😳 That would be a little too overwhelming for me. I think I'd rather road trip it.....thanks for the content Kuga - you do it, so we don't have to lol.
Obviously not for the claustrophobic crowd…being confined to that cubicle for that many hours and that many days…😳😬😵💫 Also you were a very brave person to utilize that shower facility, I would have had many anti-bacterial sprays along for the ride. 😂
Toliet in the room is convenient but gross. And the last thing I want to look at for hours. That said, perhaps a cool Japanese toliet would be okay in a room 😂
VIA used to have 2 trans-continental passenger trains. Calgary is now the largest Canadian city with no inter-city train service. The former VIA route of Vancouver - Calgary - Winnipeg - Thunder Bay - Sudbury - Ottawa - Montreal was discontinued due to budget cuts in 1992. Another train called "Atlantic" continued the trans-continental trip from Montreal through central Maine to Halifax, Nova Scotia. If it could be returned to service, would provide a good second travel option.
Thunderstorms, lighting, heavy rain +in a sleeper train. Im having an orgasam thinking about it. I could travel for months on end, and be by my self in that cabin, and meet new people
I liked your comment on the chicken pot pie. It was most likely heated in a microwave, like we do with the ones we buy, frozen, in the supermarket. After we heat them, I must wait for at least 45 minutes to eat it and taste the flavor, otherwise it is like you said, molten lava level.
Konichiwa for your posting/vlog You will be pleased to learn that VIA has begun running new rolling stock/train cars on the Québec city to Windsor corridor. It should eventually replace all the vintage cars of The Canadian. I have been across from Montréal to Vancouver, and back 7 times. 1964 was my first trip, meals were even better then, also there used to be a bar in lounges for a Cognac and cigar/pipe/cigarette after meals. However, there were no showers, hand washing using sink/basin was the only option. Be well and stay safe.
A fantastic video as usual Kuga San. I was a bit surprised you did not show Quebec City but perhaps it was not photo worthy on the route you were on. Do you ever explore the bigger cities when you are in a country or do you mostly stay on the trains? Thank you again for the great videos.

I like your videos, and your humour
Loved "The train is enjoying his meal"
You should go up to the observation deck when in the thunderstorm, the views of thunderstorms out on the prairies are breathtaking.
Exactly what I thought, would have been spectacular to see

Yup - not much money is invested in Canadian passenger rail service. The country is so large that most people prefer air travel
Perhaps you are unaware that most Canadians never travel in those trains. Canadian governments look after their people, not a very few who travel in these expensive but old trains. These trains are run by private companies. Most Canadian travel by cars or buses.

Looks amazing! As a Vancouver citizen I find this mesmerizing
Watching your toilet for 8 days is wild. Not sure who had the idea for that layout, but i'd say it's a controversial idea at best... 😂
May be a carryover from 1950s era trains…they have been remodeled twice. Actually nice looking cars from the outside..staring at the toilet not as popular an option nowadays.
Any drop in maintenance or cleaning... And it doesn't have a seal. It's just a regular toilet.
@Sansoloz My first thought too! Ha ha...
Thank you for sharing your train journeys makes me feel like I am on the train with you 🇦🇺
