I was able to connect everything as indicated. One thing to keep in mind. The volume for phone calls is a bit lower when channelled thru the TFT, than a direct iPhone to Helmet config. My setup: iPhone X, GSA 2018, Sena SLR, NAV 6. Also, I thought it would be useful to add the steps in your video description, as it's not always possible to watch YT on the field! Here they are (let me know if I made a mistake!) 1 - Update all devices to the latest firmware - Phone - Helmet COM System - TFT System (BMW) (Latest version as of 2019-03-23: Version 001_019_180) - GPS (via Garmin Express) 2 - Reset (erase) all Bluetooth connections - Phone (ICC6.5in + COM + GPS) - Helmet COM System - TFT System (BMW) - GPS (NAV - Garmin) 3 - Pairing devices in this order - Pair Headset (Helmet) to the TFT using Primary Phone Connection - Pair Headset (Helmet) to the GPS using Secondary Phone Connection (or GPS) (Enable Headset, Enable Media) - Pair iPhone to TFT (BMW) (Allow Contact sharing to TFT) - Pair iPhone to GPS (Don’t allow Contact sharing to GPS, Disable Phone calls, Enable Smartphone link, Enable Media) - Pair Intercom Helmet to Passenger’s Intercom helmet
Also, remember that when you do the phone through the Garmin, volume is controlled both by the Sena AND the Phone. So if you have the volume down on the phone it will max sooner than it would if the volume is max on the phone. @@marcouellet
marc, I'm not having success in registering my VIN to the App .... keep getting msg that vehicle is not equipped for Connect Drive....what am I missing?
Greetings to America, this is by far the best video explaining these topics that you can find on the web. Completely incomprehensible that the manufacturers do not see themselves as responsible here! Many thanks from Stuttgart/Germany from a 1951 guy with about a million motorcycle kilometers! Kind regards, Christoph Dimter 👍👌😀
I've been watching UA-cam "how to" motorcycle repair and operation videos for years and rarely begin a project without first searching here for advice. My hat's off to the gentleman that produced this highly professional video. It's THE single best "how to" video (covering a VERY complex subject) that I've viewed in fifteen years. In short, it's SUPERB. BMW should pay this gent for the work HE DID in explaining their equipment operation that they DIDN'T EXPLAIN for their customers that have purchased BMW bikes with the new TFT display and BMW Navigator GPS. I sent this link to my local BMW dealer telling them shouldn't sell another TFT bike without providing this for their customers. I consider myself fairly technically savvy. Accordingly, I was extremely frustrated after several failed attempts at getting my helmet BT headset, BMW Navigator VI, iPhone 7 and BMW TFT to work together on my new 2018 BMW R1200GS. I watched several UA-cam videos and NONE solved the problem. Then I came upon THIS video. BINGO! Problem solved. Nice work sir. Thank you SO much for producing this!
@@aMAYSingLife I took a ride yesterday afternoon and had a lot of fun trying out all the apps you recommended. Much fun! The only issue I haven't been able to resolve is the volume of the BMW Navi VI in my CARDO headset. No matter what volume I have the Cardo headset set on, the BMW Navi route instructions are FULL VOLUME...as in PAINFULLY LOUD in my headset. All the other volumes...media, etc., is fully controllable with the headset volume control. The BMW Navi VI settings says the volume is controlled by my headset...and says to adjust it there. It seems like I'm stuck in a do-loop on this. Any thoughts? Thanks again...Jim.
@@AncientAviator you can modify how loud music is and gps instructions are in the "mixer" portion of audio control. this way you can have audio at full volume and gps and much less.. we used to call the "pull up" lady in airplanes bitchin betty... same applies on the garmin on the bikes lol.
@@aMAYSingLife Thanks very much for your speedy response. Yes, I flew Hornets in the Navy and know Bitchin' Betty all too well! I got yelled at a lot by her. Could you please tell me where the audio control/mixer function is found? GPS...TFT...Cardo Helmet Control firmware? Thanks again!
@@aMAYSingLife Disregard my earlier question please...I found the audio mixer control page under "Volume" on the BMW Nav VI. And as you probably suspected, it was FULL UP for the GPS. That would explain the ear shattering volume I was getting. Thanks so much again for all your help! Nice job!
This is one of the best instructional videos I've watched (e.g., no annoying background music distractions, etc. but packed with very useful information and actual screen shots). I admit I was put off by the length but within a minute, I see there was a lot of good content. I'm only using a Connected Cradle unit but this video helped me understand the complexities and why some things don't work and possible sources of bluetooth confusion related to priority, etc.. Thanks for keeping the video on point and focused and excellent job.
Thanks so much! I hope everyone who makes comments including yourself realizes how much it means to those of us who produce videos.. it’s much appreciated
I want to thank you for creating this informative and professionally narrated step by step tutorial. I have referred back to it several times over the last few years when I needed to refresh and tie all the elements back together. JOB WELL DONE.
With all respect Sir you should have asked for some money... 😊 this is the best tutorial to connect all devices properly. It works perfectly fine. Not even a BMW Dealer was aware of this way to connect the various devices - and being from Germany, I have plenty of them around me. Again - thank you so much - so detailed so well explained this is just outstanding! 👍🏻
GB 818 I really appreciate that... that’s the life we live now though, hard to get paid for something the tops dont event understand how bad it’s needed until it’s out..
4 year old video and still an invaluable explanation! My 1250GS is currently in for its first service but after riding round on it for a month I still hadn't figured out how to get things working properly. I have the connected cradle which I think introduces some limitations but armed with the info from your video, I look forward to trying it all out once the bike is back! Thanks for taking the time, excellent work.
using the connected cradle it will be slightly different than connecting with the nav VI. You will connect the phone directly to your Sena in phone 1 slot, and the bike TFT will be phone slot 2. It should be a more stable connection since you are taking out the Nav VI. I am curious if they have eliminated the vibration issue for phones. I had heard it was damaging some. have you not had that issue?
@@aMAYSingLife I have read some of the reviews about damage to iPhones but I have the X, in the leather Apple case, it sits in the cradle secure enough and I don’t notice any vibrations on the screen…perhaps like the fella falling off the building, it’s just a case of so far so good ;) I got the tft firmware upgrade as part off my service yesterday so all my current connections were wiped when I picked up the bike, I connected the sena then my phone to the tft ( which took an age btw) as it was a cold night I didn’t bother messing with the cradle and just headed home, planning on setting up the cradle in the morning so will report back. Reporting back...works a treat, thank you sir!
This is absolutely amazing. Starting a fire with two wet sticks would be easier than trying to navigate the connectivity between all of these devices/apps without this video. You rock!
I have seen a lot of riders having problems making their headset, TFT and Nav VI work together. On my GS 1250, Nav VI, and Sena SRL Neotec II with your instruction as mentioned in this video everything works well. Nicely done. Thank you very much.
Excellent tutorial. I was a bit worried about the length, but it was exactly as long as it needed to be, without any filler. I appreciate the time and care taken to create the text slides, and the overall approach to explain not just the How, but the Why of it all. Great job!!
Excellent video and a giant thank you for continuing the Q & A here. My setup: 2020 GS, Nav 6, Sena 50S, iPhone SE (2nd gen - 2020) all on the latest software. All works as it should except phone calls. The phone makes/receives calls and the phone identifies the sound source as ICC6.5, but I can’t hear the caller and vice versa. If I leave the Nav 6 off phone calls work, but then of course the Nav 6 does not. I’ve looked for various volume controls, but I’ve either not found them or they don’t exist. As a secondary, but smaller problem, the Nav 6 directions come through choppy. For a test, I used my wife’s new iPhone 12 and the results were the same. There’s so much potential here…. Thank you for your service to the rider community.
1. Is the nav setup to use Phone 2 slot or is it using GPS slot? Should be Phone 2. 2. In the settings on the nav under bluetooth, uncheck Phone from the checkmarks and see if that resolves. 3. What happens when you change the audio selection to be Nav on the phone instead of ICC6.5 for sound source? 4. Is audio multi-tasking turned on on the 50s. 5. Is HD intercom turned on - needs to be off. 6. regarding choppy - where is the phone located - insure its close - not in your pocket in your jacket. place in your tank bag with as little restriction as possible. It would seem they used the crappiest bluetooth radio possible on both the nav and the TFT. 7. Do each of these individually and test your results each time. I'm throwing ideas not necessarily edicts. please let me know your results. The Sena 50s hasn't been the device we were all hoping for.. I was really hoping for one that had a much better processor in it so it could handle some of these complex connections a bit easier. Not sure it did that. Let men now and good luck!
Re #1 - how do I tell which slot is being used? Re #2 - already tried that but did not help Re #4 - how do I verify audio multi-tasking is on? Re #5 - how do I verify HD intercom is off? Re #6 - phone usually in tank bag I'll try all your suggestions as soon as possible and report back. Thanks!
@@aMAYSingLife Sorry to take so long to get back, I work at a CPA firm and tax season just ended. Per suggestion from Brandon Wren and raffa650 I tried tuning on the audio multitasking option. It all worked!! Steps I took - 1) followed your directions for resetting everything, 2) connected Sena 50S to laptop and via Sena app turned on audio multitasking, 3) followed your directions except the resetting part. Now a question - I believe doing a factory reset on the Sena 50S returns the audio multitasking setting back "off", which then puts me right back into the problem, so is there a way to reset the Sena 50S and still have audio multitasking set on "on"? Thanks!!
@@markwebb4538 "delete all pairings" doesn't change the settings... A "factory reset" would so you dont want to do factory reset once you have the settings the way you want them but there is a method to "delete all pairings" and this is the best way to insure you don't accidentally have something paired the wrong way.
Thank you!!! I could tell that the Sena connection with the phone was going to fight with the NAV and TFT. Had a feeling we would head down that road to disconnecting the Sena from the phone. Your video was EXACTLY what we needed.. Everything works now. My only reservation with this set up is that if I come off the bike and I'm laying in the ditch and the bike is across the road in the other ditch and electrically broke, I can't call 911 directly from the Sena. With the direct Sena connection, I could press the phone button and voice command Siri to dial 911. That is the reason that I quit using the phone mount on my bike. If I come off that thing, I want the phone in my armor jacket with my torn up body. I have a huge amount of songs in my phone. I am wondering if the play lists, artists and such will ever sync and if so, how long with that take. All things considered, it is a nice system. I just came from a 2016 GSA with hybrid analog/digital dash and I'm just configuring the new 2023 GSA. iPhone 13 Pro/BMW Nav VI/Sena 50S/2023 R1250GSA
I personally dont trust that my phone will make a call after an accident. The new Iphone 14 has crash sense so if it is still able to make a call then it might do it automatically for you. I use an inreach device that is always attached to me for that purpose. i can push the sos button with gloves on. That said, 911 could easily be faster if you are in urban environment so your point is valid. If you off your bike as a result of someone else then likely someone else will be calling as well so there is that. if i'm out in the middle of nowhere then my phone wont likely help anyway. if phone is on you, then removing gloves and hitting the emergency response is likely best bet. Thats assuming you can remove gloves. Its a guessing game where all that lands in an accident for sure. I've totaled 2 bikes and had 3 accidents. 2 of the 3 times i had no cell service.. the 3rd was due to a car pulling in front of me and i t-boned him. he called 911, not me.
Sir!! I have been having a bit of a struggle with the Tft, Nav 6 Galaxy S8+ and Sena 20sevo. I'd decided to just pair the Sena to the Nav for simplicity as on tour I like to have the nav instructions. However after watching your video I will attempt to sort it correctly! A shame BMW themselves seem to have no idea how to achieve success with this system. Many thanks for producing this.. Ride safely.👌
This is the best tutorial for setting up my comms that I could find. Thank you. I have not read through the comments, so it may have been mentioned already, but I found with my Cardo Freecom 1+, after connecting to the TFT on the Primary channel, I had to turn the TFT (bike ignition) off, before it would let me connect the Cardo Secondary channel to the GPS.
Yes, I have been testing a Cardo for about a month or so and intend to release a video specifically for it. There are some slight modifications such as what you mentioned but overall its very similar. It should be noted until I updated the Cardo it marginally did anything correctly based on my video so updating is very required..
Omg. (don't often use that) I've had a bmw for 4 years, and always given up with the nav 6. Now I have tft and you've made it all work. Thanks a million 😁❤️👍🤗😢
Thank you sir , I have a GS 1250 and just buy a Schuberth c4 pro with sc1 advance system . You have make my life really easier . Thank you to spend time too help other riders . Very clear vocal as visually,a clear tutorial for everyone . Much thanks 🙏
Fantastic video, still relevant after 3 1/2 years. Well worth the time too watch the whole thing, don't skip ahead, and it helped me get everything (F750, Sena 10U & SF1, iPhone, Nav 6) all talking to each other. The only problem I am having is that the instructions from the Nav are at max volume, the volume control on the Nav is disabled and the Sena volume doesn't seem to make much difference either. Have tried both 2nd Phone and GPS pairing, both the same. If I could fix this it would be perfect.
Thank yo for that.. you should be able to go to the mixer on the nav and control how loud navigation instructions vs music is.. you are saying that doesn't work for you?
Doh! Forgot about the mixer! In my defence, when you try to adjust the volume on the Nav the screen says “Use the controls on the headset to adjust the volume”, so I did. Thanks for the reminder
A superb video, thanks so much. First time I did everything correctly with the exception of unticking the phone call option on the Nav. As soon as I took a phone call, the phone dropped offline from the TFT. Re-watched the video, picked up my mistake and it connected perfectly. Thanks again for such a brilliant tutorial… Regards Nel
Thank you. I just got a PackTalk Bold and had not been able to connect to the TFT and phone in a way that allowed everything to work. This protocol straightened it out!
By far the VERY best connection tutorial found anywhere. A very huge thanks for sharing your expertise and helping me maximize my investments in my bike and tech accessories.
Thank you a lot for this great video. Never got Music from my phone and phone calls to work properly on my Neotex SLR headset and watching this video makes me realise why. Thank you so much for making this great video, must have taken many hours to do so. But it is very much appreciated.
This was the only video that I found that explains the process in a detailed and accurate manner! Excellent, sir. Thank you. I found my Neotec II/Sena SLR/iPhone XR connection to be spotty for music. It cuts out every few seconds. Have not root caused, but I suspect BT and poor design and quality control naturally.
David Dedman I’m doing a review of the bold with the bmw and everything worked great until I connected a Sena headset. I discovered music was choppy, just couldn’t handle the load. If I turn off music from the nav part it solves the problem. Have you noticed this? Do you connect to other Cardo units? Does it all work when u use dmc? Trying to get some real world before producing the video
WheelSpin Productions hi. Only thing I have noticed is when you get a NAV prompt, when the music comes back on it stutters for a couple of seconds. Also worth note is that the mic is very sensitive and if too close to your mouth, it won’t like you using a loud voice. I whisper ‘hey Cardo’ and it now works!
First of all a massive thank you. This must have taken ages to put together. I am sure like many others I really appreciate this video, the way it was put together and the help and clarity it has given me. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Here in July 2022 with the latest updates( unless I missed it in the video) I found I needed to select the media source in the Nav6 to Bluetooth then I got audio. I also had issues with media not activating on the NAV6 I would select and enable it but it would be off next time. Maybe this is fixed now I set Bluetooth as media but haven't checked that. The only thing I miss is the voice control function I have lost to my phone. I also realised I need to turn my phone volume up to get enough level so that I could control it with the TFT. Awesome Job :-)
@@aMAYSingLife You are welcome as someone who has a UA-cam channel I truly get how difficult and time consuming this is. I bought a brand new F850GSA on Friday and you are the man who put the grin on my face. Thanks again!
Just been pointed to this, nice and clear, instructions worked perfectly with my Gen 2 S1000XR TFT screen, BMW Nav VI and Schuberth SC1a... a BIG improvement! If there was a way to have the phone default back to connecting with the helmet when the bike was turned off that would be the icing on the cake:-) but I don't want to confuse the devices until I know the above is stable... Thanks, Peter
Thank you for the time spent to make this video in great detail. I had some difficulty in completing it, and after many, many repeated deleting all the connection history in all of the devices and starting over, I was finally able to get everything to work as described, however. I have the ‘19 R1250 GSA, 20S EVO, iPhone 8 and Nav 6. All have the latest software versions. Headset to TFT - worked perfectly as you described Headset to NAV 6 - after holding the Jog Dial for intercom pairing, I needed to give the Sena a moment before I tapped the phone button. iPhone to TFT - worked perfectly as you described iPhone to NAV 6 - worked perfectly as you described Everything works....phone calls, media/music, NAV directions. And thanks for the “mixer” settings of audio, I can individually set volume limits for phone, music and navigation.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I use a Schubert C4 plus Schubert/Sena SC1S (fw 2.0) on a TFT, also have the Navigator VI. Had a hard time setting this up properly, until now that is. Took the time to sit through your entire tutorial and it was well worth it. As you say, just take the time now to understand why everything connects the way it does, and you'll save yourself time in the future when you need to reconnect everything, for instance due to a firmware upgrade that erases all settings. I had volume problems before (too low on phone, BMW Connected nav and media). These problems seem to have disappeared after I operated the different sources, and made sure the volume setting on the iPhone was on max. Everything connects without a hitch, and making and taking calls from the TFT is a breeze. Not sure if the volume can be changed through the TFT. Using the jog/dial does not seem to make a difference. Many thanks again.
Again, your video comes through! Just got a new iPhone 13 Pro and had to redo my setup with a 2021 R1250GS Rallye and Sena 50S. Worked the first time! Thanks again, sir.
@@raffa650 I believe audio multitasking has to be turned on if it is off by default, hopefully Brandon will share what he did. If you want to make those type changes either plug it into your computer and configure it or pair it with your phone temporarily to get the settings done then pair that slot to the bike after you have it configured.

Thanks so much for all your time and effort that went into the making of this video. Extremely professional, well delivered and very informative. I have the latest firmware on my 2018 GSA and have been struggling to get everything working as it should. The Australian dealer has absolutely no clue whatsoever (instilling little confidence for getting problems sorted out in the future) so amidst much frustration, went searching on the good old “interweb” and came across your video. Viewed from start to finish, you made perfect sense and the subsequent setup on my moto was easy and painless. I have two helmets that use different comms systems, a Schuberth C4 with built in SC1A and an Arai XD-4 with Cardo Packtalk Bold. I set up both of the helmets up as per your instructions prior to pairing my iPhone XS to the TFT and then the Nav VI. Turned everything off after each pairing and BINGO! Everything working. Voice commands from the Nav VI through the helmets, media, phone calls, the lot. Your instructions showing the feature set of the BMW Connect app are extremely useful as well as the various little tricks of Garmin Smart Link were likewise extremely helpful. Again, many, many thanks for your efforts. If you ever want to take a trip down to the good old land of Oz, feel free to drop me a line.
The Motorrad Rider thank you for your appreciation. It means a lot. I would love to take you up on that offer someday.. have always wanted to go there!
Thank you for tutorial video, I followed the instruction and everything worked but phone call was unable to communicate then I unpaired headset to NAV and it works. Again, thank you for the tutorial video. Just watch your video on Cardo with TFT and you mentioned Sena does not have power or bandwith to connect with others and I have to agree, mine is doing that, too bad I can not get direction from the NAV VI but I guess I have to learn to live without. Thank you Dave for the info
I went through this setup as you described in the video and it works, but it’s quirky. I seem to have the best luck by turning on my SRL first, then the bike. It then takes around 30 seconds or so for my iPhone XS Max to connect to the TFT. The only issues I experienced were between the phone and TFT. Mainly, using the Amazon music app, sometimes the music was playing on the phone and I could see it on the media screen in the TFT but there was no audio in my helmet. Turn the bike off and back on, all the connections start happening and it works fine. I also discovered that you turn the volume up or down with the phone rather than just relying on the SRL by itself. I appreciate you taking the time to put this info together.
The Cranky Biker make sure you are running latest rev of the firmware... the earlier versions seemed to be slow to connect. You likely have already done this but worth repeating.
Health4ADV latest rev of firmware for the SENA? The phone is what takes the longest to connect. The SENA is pretty fast and is on the latest rev. I think I may blow it all away though and start over. Those BT connections can be finicky, as you know.
The Cranky Biker I was actually meaning the TFT when talking about insuring latest firmware. There was a rev that was bugged and it took forever to “wake up” to pair. A good test is on the TFT go to settings then connections when you first turn on the bike. It connections takes a long time to become active that’s your problem. Until that is enabled then nothing is going to connect to that bike because the radio isn’t even active yet.
Super helpful. The smart link from phone to gps was what I was looking for. Entering destinations on the nav 6 is cumbersome at best. Entering one destination by itself takes about as much time as this whole pairing dance takes. looks like we have some of the same riding playgrounds since I’m in North Carolina-
What I wish you could do with smart link is enter an address from a long way away (not around you) and it work. This seems like a silly limitation that would allow me to utilize the smart link far more often than I do. As it is, you can only enter locations that are within x miles of you. At least that has been my experience.
Not only the BMW manual but the Garmin and Sena instructions. All three should stop being self serving and reach out across technology borders to help customers out. We customers spend a hell of a lot of money on these products. Listen to your customers!
Nigel Jennings still connect it the same way you would if it were bike to bike. I have not recently changed my theory on this based on newer tft firmware but connecting the headset to the tft has not proven useful. I have seen when activating intercom to pillion that the nav seems to freak. If that happens turn off the phone portion but leave the rest. That should help.

Bill Kerr. advanced rider to police standard (certified) for 43 years, now 68 yrs. old and fully retired. Thanks again for the great presentation and please tell me what I need to do to follow your explanation with 2 x helmets...
If you have two helmets and only one bike that has the tft it’s a bit easier than if you have two different bikes with tft. If two bikes with tft best to just have two helmets one for each bike. If one bike and two helmets (two senas) then get very familiar with pairing the phone 1 slot of the Sena with the tft. Leave everything else the same. The pairing will overwrite the past pairing.. example. You have paired with helmet a to Garmin and tft and all is working. You want to run the other helmet. The Garmin can remember both helmets. So you “add the pairing to the Garmin” just like the first time. In the tft it can only remember one helmet so you will overwrite rider helmet. When you switch back to the other helmet all you need to do is pair slot a on Sena with rider helmet on tft. Both the phone and Garmin will still work as long as you did that the same way on both.. the difference is you don’t wipe all of the devices prior to pairing when doing the second helmet.
@@aMAYSingLife thanks a lot for the advice .... I played around with practice pairing but have now wiped clean as recommended and tomorrow will work with a clean slate . I m very grateful Bill Kerr r1250 Rallye
Thank you so much for creating this video, it's an area BMW has done a very poor job of in terms of communicating how to set this up correctly. Great tech means little if it doesn't work, and the setup for this is a bit complicated without clarification on the order/process, your video does what BMW has not, much appreciated. One question, after following all the steps everything works, but then I occasionally start losing the connection between the BMW app and the TFT. This seems to happen randomly, I'll be riding along and suddenly the "navigation" option in the menu goes dark and says it's not "connected to the BMW app". Anyone else had the issue after setting everything up, and having it work properly---except for this issue?
This was something that happened to me as well. Not sure what firmware you are running but that might solve it. Really depends on how old your firmware is. I have now sold my GSA so I can't test it at this point. I have other bikes that are tempting me :)
Hi at Health4ADV, thanks for this post. Well at least I think I mean thanks however I did not get very far into the video before my brain was fried. I have just bought a F750 GS with all of the gubbins. Nav V1, TFT, Scala Q3, mobile phone and to be honest I am struggling to cope. As and older guy I am more into the comms aspect than speed (but lack the technology ability) I was beginning to think that I had made a major mistake with this combo. You have absolutely floored me with this info. I may not live long enough to be able to learn all of this stuff. Anyway I am gonna try my best and keep practicing. Thanks for taking the time to prepare and post a video like this for the "hard of thinking" it is appreciated even though it has overwhelmed me somewhat. Take care out there.
Good luck with your setup. You have a great machine and perhaps just need a little help to get it setup. I would suggest providing this video to the dealership where you purchased your bike and ask them to help you set it up. once you have done it a few times it doesn't take but about 5 minutes to set it all up and get it going. Pandoras Motorsports here in Chattanooga sets them up for their customers all the time. Good luck my friend..

Hi H4ADV I have had an element of success in that I can link my Scala Q3 / Samsung A3 with the TFT and Nav V1. I get all of the instructions from the nav but I cannot get my music to come through the nav, yet. I have also just upgraded my phone which I am assured is fully up yo the job. Thank you so much for the amazing comprehensive instruction on this video. This has helped clear up so much confusion when trying to link everything to the Nav and TFT. Something I’ve never been able to achieve successfully You deserve a medal sir! Thanks!!!
thanks very much!!!! this worked for my new ‘21 GS, bmw fit for all comms (sena 10r) tft, and zumo xt. although the menus and prompts were slightly different it was similar enough. shame i can’t control tidal from the zumo, only the native iphone music functions. but hey ho. haven’t tried siri from the headset yet. anyway great video. top man.
These were excellent and thorough instructions - thank you!! Has anyone figured out how to use the more advanced features of the Sena with this configuration? I believe you must pair the phone with the Sena unit directly to enable things like volume boost, FM radio, etc.
You sir, are a life saver! Picked up my new (to me) GSA last week and have been struggling with get my helmet, phone, and Nav VI to connect and work properly. You’re video helped tremendously! Had a question though... how’d you get the weather radar option on the main Nav display? Thanks and ride safe!
This is like studying for test for a class I might take in a school I haven’t yet been admitted to. Lol. I’m looking forward to getting a 1250GS and Nav VI at some point!!! Great video. Thanks!!!!
I can confirm that this method works with the 2019 GS TFT and Nav6, but I found with the Sena 10s when the Nav6 speaks directions, the sound is very broken up, loud and distorted. So I ended up just letting my iphone and Sena use the TFT as you had described, and only the iphone with Nav6 set to smartlink only. That at least still provides me with weather data, traffic, etc. In my setup, the TFT and BMW app will be my primary GPS, and the NAV 6 will be informational only. Until I can figure out why the Nav and Sena don't play well together as the secondary device.
Everything was great and very clear, very helpful! I only have one problem, the Smart link app does not connect to the navigator. Any suggestions there?
I found the technology of the tft to be more reliable for phone com than the nav. Plus you can’t really turn off the capability from the tft and you can the nav specifically for phone calls.
@@aMAYSingLife Thanks for the reply. Presumably you could simply not connect the Phone to TFT at all, and run everything thought Nav vi? But you're saying that the phone calls are a bit better on TFT? I don't make a tonne of calls, maybe I would in an emergency, so am just wondering if this would simplify things a little?
@@aMAYSingLife Hi. Did some testing today. On my system (iPhone, Cardo, 2018 1200 gs) connecting headset and phone to my new Nav is much better overall. Phone calls finally work, tft was terrible for dropping out. Music on the Nav is fine too, it’s a pain that it’s interrupted with the gps instructions, but I can turn them off I suppose. It’s a shame also that you can’t navigate through your music library with the winder wheel like you can with tft. Next I’ll experiment with connecting phone to tft for music only. But your vid was so useful to understand how all the connections work. Thanks again man
@@NickChurchPhotography glad you are getting it figured out.. the firmware has changed a great deal since this video was made but as you stated the overall setup still remains largely the same. Glad it helped!
One of the keys to success here is to pair the NAV 6 to the Second mobile phone pairing. Jog dial 5 secs, phone button 1 sec, phone button 1 sec "GPS Pairing".
I thought of upgrading to a 2019 model for the TFT, but my research indicated that I wasn’t gaining much that I didn’t already have on the Nav VI. The Nav VI has some QA issues Garmin won’t address and took a while to configure the way I wanted, but I’ve gotten more comfortable with the quirks. The TFT is being designed so you don’t need the Navigator to get those extra functions, but if you’re running the Navigator most all the time, it isn’t much of an upgrade.
I'll agree that the nav 6 can do most of what the TFT can do. The motor would be why to consider at this point and the TFT is a bonus. I have to admit it is nice to control music on the TFT while seeing map on nav. I do that a lot. I also use nav on the TFT for local getting around so I can leave my nav programmed for the longer trip.
A great and very clear explanation, thank you! I was about to buy a new headset as I thought this was the issue for streaming audio, but everything works perfectly now. Thank you!
Hello! Many thanks! It was the best video about this I could find! Helped a lot! I have managed to improve your solution though...: My suggestions: (1) Before anything alse and with the TFT and Nav VI turned off, sync the two Sena 20S intercom systems, (2) execute your original steps, (3) add the second rider´s intercom to the TFT but as a secondary phone on the Sena, (4) if you want to, add a second phone to the second rider´s intercom as a first phone. DO NOT share music from one Sena to the other. The music sharing is done by the TFT while the communication between riders is done through the Sena´s system. It seems that everything is working with everything without issues so far... Good luck!
I have not ignored this post but have been traveling so much I have not been able to test what you have recommended.. Is the purpose of adding the second riders 2nd phone to TFT in order to share music through the TFT? I think that is what you are saying.. This would be nice.
@@aMAYSingLife Not necessarily, but could work if you do not connect it at the same time to the TFT. The original idea would be to allow the second phone to also be available for the passenger...
Many thanks for the video! It would have taken me many hours to figure out this connection sequence. Unless I’ve done something wrong the only down side I see with this connection sequence is that I no longer have voice recognition which made it very convenient to place calls, Presumably this is because the phone is not directly connected to my 20S headset.
WheelSpin Productions Thanks for the reply! FYI, went on a ride today and everything worked well as far as music and calls are concerned. I need to spend more time with the Nav and apps to get the most out of them. But pretty happy with the ways it’s working!
Just completed process from that as described with one minor glitch, equipment used: 2018 GS Exclusive TE, Sena 10U, iphone11, Navigator V. All seems to work well until the pairing of the iphone with the Navigator V, there appears not to be the option for to select Media on the Nav, i was able to pair the nav to the phone however nothing else then seemed to work ie TFT menu for Nav, Media and Phone greyed out. It all started to work again when i unpaired the iphone from the Nav. I can now get music and telephone from the TFT and as the sena is paired with the Nav i can get directions through that. I have linked the Motorrad app to the bike so to be fair i don't think i will need the Nav moving forward as i have ordered a device that allows the iphone to clip into the Nav holder. I will test it all again when device arrives to confirm everything still talks to each other.
So the Nav V has reduced function compared to the Nav VI which supports the Media streaming function. I have also found that the Nav V doesn't update the weather fast enough to be beneficial so I think you are on the right track regarding using the connected app as a primary tools for navigation. Remember to download the states you go to because with that setup if you lose cell service without the maps downloaded you also lose mapping function. I am still in the 2 is 1 and 1 is none belief system so I use the Nav VI as my primary and connected app as backup but based on where BMW is going with the connected app (see new RT doesn't even have a hookup for a Garmin) I am betting their plan is to slowly phase out the Nav. I'm still not sure how I feel about that but it is what it is.
You did everything perfect to the end. I cant see how did you get those two small icons on tft and nav on the top left corner and how do you control that please??
Very well done - thank you so much - extremely well described easy to follow... will try this asap. I will need to upgrade from smh10 to Sena 20evo or 30k. Update: I did upgrade today to the Sena 20sevo - works absolutely perfect and exactly as you described! Also the GarminSmart App is pretty cool.. As I do not have MP3s stored on Navigator 6 I changed the settings and removed the media option. Now I’m listening to the music from my iPhone or even Spotify from the TFT 👍🏻
I personally can't recommend the 30k.. Its been a pain for me and I have even sent one back and the mesh still didn't work properly. Not sure if there is interference with the TFT and nav and it just can't handle mesh with all that connected or what, but unfortunately I don't feel the 30k is fully baked.. 20s evo or the 10c Pro (camera which I am using now) work well.
Awesome video. I have a Packtalk Bold and was happy to see it come up on the TFT during bonding. But just before I started the BMW Connected app I had music audio. No more. Also, my playlists (iPhone) come up blank on the TFT. I'm going to start all over. Glad you made this video though. I suspect it's best not to connect other things as well.
check the settings in the Cardo.. This will require pairing your phone to the Cardo directly then re-pairing the TFT or Nav (depending on which slot you picked to have the phone take its spot). Do this away from the bike so there is no interference. You will need to delete the pairing from either the TFT or nav so you can freshly re-pair. Once connected to the phone, check your settings and insure anything regarding music/multi-tasking is turned on. Also, there is a pretty new update that came out recently that is worth installing based on what I'm reading. Might also help solve the problem. Once all this has been done, re-pair to the bike in the same slot you chose to pair the phone on. Delete the pairing in your phone so there isn't the attempt constantly to connect. Should be back the way you were but with updated firmware and hopefully settings the way you need them. cheers.
Thanks same topology works with 2022 yamaha Tmax tech Max. It has similar kind of TFT. I don’t have garmin device but it TFT supports native gamin app on your connected phone and you mirror the garmin app on your TFT and control it.. Therefore I am connecting 2 different iPhones to TFT one is for media and using apple maps and Google maps second one is for yamaha link app, native Garmin connection to TFT, And phone calls (+ music ). The connection method is works the best as you mentioned thanks for posting
Wow thats good to know that other manufacturers have determined the "hub" method is the best option.. So maybe we will see a bit more standardization among manufacturers forcing SENA and Cardo to think differently as that would solve some issues depending on how they are designed as well. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your video!!!! I have been reading a lot of suggestions and none of them seemed to be logical or with some fundamentals. I can say now that I understand the limitations of these pairing processes. I had updated all the firmwares and, like others, BMW dealers didn't like the request for updating. I have TFT + PackTalk Bold + Nav VI + Iphone XR. I decided to leave the media play through NAV VI and TFT. It works fine but I have to set the NAV VI for media play every time that I start Spotify. The problem that seems to be hard to solve for now is the Pack Talk's Voice Command and the Cardo Connect App (it can't be used because we don't have any other channel to pair the Iphone. PT Iphone). Besides that, I heard that we can't "close the loop" (Pack Talk Iphone; Pack Talk TFT; Iphone TFT). Do you know why? Again, thank you very much for your video!!!!
It's true. There are limitations in how we are connecting all this stuff and its based in bluetooth. I'm hoping they determine a way to work around that issue but because of how the TFT and Nav talk to the PackTalk bluetooth has some limitations. A wifi connection to the phone to the Packtalk could be an option in the future design but likely they are avoiding that due to additional power requirements. By using wifi it would be an IP connection so the logic of how it connected would be more sophisticated than simple profiles as done with bluetooth. I have the same issue regarding the the wrong unit is "airplay" wrong term but you know what I mean) and I have to change it on the phone to switch to TFT instead of Nav or I don't hear music. (I use the TFT for music management). There doesn't seem to be a way to set one as priority over the other in the phone so I think we are just stuck with that.
@@aMAYSingLife Exactly. I hope that they can think about us, consumers, and offer a better solution. By now, It seems a to be a question of whom will dictate the course of motorcycle communication solution. I will keep your solution. Thank you again and congratulations for the vídeo.
Thank you very much for the excellent job! Yoy choose " second phone pairing" and before in the video you said that you prefer "GPS pairing" ..does it make some differences?
Outstanding instructional video and appreciate the time and effort you put into the shooting and post shoot production. Quality is fantastic! Quick dumb question...How important is the order/pairing sequence when going from device to device. The total reset/forget devices approach is required with each outing on the bike? Or once you got it set up as described, walk up, turn on, and good to go? Thanks again.
once you have it going, it should work each time. Any firmware update however on any of the pieces will potentially require you to redo the process. I have been traveling for the past 3 weeks and have the 30k and discovered there is a firmware update 2.1 out. I'm going to install that tonight and see if anything gets better. It tends to do pretty well, but lately I have had trouble connected while I'm chatting with riding partner. It is disconnecting my nav. Shouldn't be doing that and wasn't doing it originally. I'll post when I learn more. Also, I'm in process of getting a Sena 10c Pro which includes the camera. Since it talks to the phone via wifi it will be interesting if I can connect it to the phone now and everything else still work. I'll make a video on it once I have it figured out.
Here they are (let me know if I made a mistake!)
1 - Update all devices to the latest firmware
- Phone
- Helmet COM System
- TFT System (BMW) (Latest version as of 2019-03-23: Version 001_019_180)
- GPS (via Garmin Express)
2 - Reset (erase) all Bluetooth connections
- Phone (ICC6.5in + COM + GPS)
- Helmet COM System
- TFT System (BMW)
- GPS (NAV - Garmin)
3 - Pairing devices in this order
- Pair Headset (Helmet) to the TFT using Primary Phone Connection
- Pair Headset (Helmet) to the GPS using Secondary Phone Connection (or GPS)
(Enable Headset, Enable Media)
- Pair iPhone to TFT (BMW)
(Allow Contact sharing to TFT)
- Pair iPhone to GPS
(Don’t allow Contact sharing to GPS, Disable Phone calls, Enable Smartphone link, Enable Media)
- Pair Intercom Helmet to Passenger’s Intercom helmet
With your permission add this to the description. Thank you
Health4ADV For sure!
Also, remember that when you do the phone through the Garmin, volume is controlled both by the Sena AND the Phone. So if you have the volume down on the phone it will max sooner than it would if the volume is max on the phone. @@marcouellet

Greetings to America,
this is by far the best video explaining these topics that you can find on the web.
Completely incomprehensible that the manufacturers do not see themselves as responsible here!
Many thanks from Stuttgart/Germany from a 1951 guy with about a million motorcycle kilometers!
Kind regards, Christoph Dimter
👍👌😀
Means a lot coming from a vet moto man like yourself.. thanks so much!
I truly appreciate your comments. I actually did both the explanation and the production and editing so I thank you for your thoughts.
Nice job!
Even though this video is 4yrs old it is still very relevant today. Thanks for the step by step. Definitely worked with my 2023 gtl 😊
Glad it helped!
Glad it was helpful!
GB 818 I really appreciate that... that’s the life we live now though, hard to get paid for something the tops dont event understand how bad it’s needed until it’s out..
of course Garmin paid him, top recommendation is to update from nav V to VI thats money for them :-)
@@luivan2 actually Garmin didn't pay me a dime and I paid for my Nav VI just like everyone else.
You rock!
Lol I tend to agree with you!
3 years later and still very helpful!
Glad to hear it!
I have seen a lot of riders having problems making their headset, TFT and Nav VI work together. On my GS 1250, Nav VI, and Sena SRL Neotec II with your instruction as mentioned in this video everything works well. Nicely done. Thank you very much.
Thanks for sharing
Excellent tutorial. I was a bit worried about the length, but it was exactly as long as it needed to be, without any filler. I appreciate the time and care taken to create the text slides, and the overall approach to explain not just the How, but the Why of it all. Great job!!
yep, agree completely
Re #2 - already tried that but did not help
Re #4 - how do I verify audio multi-tasking is on?
Re #5 - how do I verify HD intercom is off?
Re #6 - phone usually in tank bag
I'll try all your suggestions as soon as possible and report back.
Thanks!
Found answers to 4 and 5 in the manual - apologies for not checking there first.
Ian Jones Music Tuition thank you so much. Very appreciated. Good luck on your setup
Omg. (don't often use that)
I've had a bmw for 4 years, and always given up with the nav 6.
Now I have tft and you've made it all work.
Thanks a million 😁❤️👍🤗😢

Best video on this topic I have ever come across by a country mile thank you
Wow, much appreciated!
Well done for it. The BMW dealers in Czech republic have no clue how to do it. Now thank to you my and my friends are now well happy.
Thank you. I just got a PackTalk Bold and had not been able to connect to the TFT and phone in a way that allowed everything to work. This protocol straightened it out!
Happy to help.. thanks for watching..
Thanks for the walkthrough. My setup is now working perfectly. Note that the TFT FW/SW has been updated and the current version is 001_019_180.
Dan O thanks for the note. I'll update in the notes.
Thanks for this! I would not have been able to pair my bike, nav, and phone without this video. Manuals just didn't cut it.

This is such a good tutorial video. Not the first time I’ve watched it. Perfectly sets up my bike/comm/gps. Thanks!
Thank you a lot for this great video. Never got Music from my phone and phone calls to work properly on my Neotex SLR headset and watching this video makes me realise why. Thank you so much for making this great video, must have taken many hours to do so. But it is very much appreciated.
Glad it helped!!! Thanks for watching!
Marshall Guillory it’s possibly the slr that is the culprit. Not the first time I have heard that from that model
Fantastic video. Bought a brand new Packtalk Bold and now my GS is totally connected by following you’re step by step guide. Cheers!
Thank you!!
Headset to TFT - worked perfectly as you described
Headset to NAV 6 - after holding the Jog Dial for intercom pairing, I needed to give the Sena a moment before I tapped the phone button.
iPhone to TFT - worked perfectly as you described
iPhone to NAV 6 - worked perfectly as you described
Everything works....phone calls, media/music, NAV directions.
Incredibly well presented. On my way to the garage to tune things up. Marc Ouellet's summary is very helpful also
Thank you
Again, your video comes through! Just got a new iPhone 13 Pro and had to redo my setup with a 2021 R1250GS Rallye and Sena 50S. Worked the first time! Thanks again, sir.
Great to hear...
with my 50s it doesn't work. iPhone 11 updated, tft updated to July 2021, Nav 6.I don't hear cell phone calls. How did you do it?
@@raffa650 I believe audio multitasking has to be turned on if it is off by default, hopefully Brandon will share what he did. If you want to make those type changes either plug it into your computer and configure it or pair it with your phone temporarily to get the settings done then pair that slot to the bike after you have it configured.
@@raffa650 Are you running the BMW Connected app? Can you hear music from phone thru TFT to Sena? Make sure you enable all permissions so you can see your contacts and call logs ON the actual TFT.

Thanks for helping a bro out! Great efford whent into this vid. I reconnected the TFT to the (i)Phone as the last device gets serviced first. Making Spotify connect to the TFT and not the NavVI when playing screaming guitar solos and bending natures laws (i wish)!✌🏼
Happy it helped!!! Rubber side down! Throttle to the back!
thank you! How you made the Button for the Active Radar on the navigator Screen (21:26 min) ? Thnx
You can customize what you want the two buttons to be. I believe it is in settings but I have since sold that bike with the nav 6 so I can’t test that
@@aMAYSingLife Thank you. I found ist later yesterday.
Health4ADV. Feel free to keep in touch. There is some seriously good riding down this way.
Health4ADV I’ll have my first service done next Sat and will ask about updating the TFT firmware then. I assume that’s not something I can do myself.
@@That_Paul_Guy no unfortunately its a process and can take a bit of time depending on the update. Good Luck!
Superb tutorial ....after months of trial and error this worked for me first time !!!!
Thank you, that is the most comprehensive UA-cam clip I have seen on the Nav 6, well done.
Rob Bevear thanks
The Sena has an earphone socket that helps in the set up without the need for wearing the helmet. It saved me a lot of time and mucking about.
The best video I’ve watched in a while. The level of detail was really impressive. Thank you for making this!
Sad that the manufacturer fails to address these issues. BMW’s manuals are not very user friendly.
Not only the BMW manual but the Garmin and Sena instructions. All three should stop being self serving and reach out across technology borders to help customers out. We customers spend a hell of a lot of money on these products. Listen to your customers!
A downloadable PDF slide-deck would ‘upgrade’ this awesome video from 99% to 100% ☺️
I can totally do that... great idea.. Not sure how fast I'll get to it but I will get it done..
@@aMAYSingLife After all this has been connected, what do you connect the pillion helmet to
Nigel Jennings still connect it the same way you would if it were bike to bike. I have not recently changed my theory on this based on newer tft firmware but connecting the headset to the tft has not proven useful. I have seen when activating intercom to pillion that the nav seems to freak. If that happens turn off the phone portion but leave the rest. That should help.

Fantastic video! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this. Would love to see a video on how you incorporate the nav systems and the REVER app. I’ve been making custom maps on BaseCamp, with some level of success. I haven’t really figured out how to share them on other devices. I just downloaded REVER because of your video. Bill Kerr. advanced rider to police standard (certified) for 43 years, now 68 yrs. old and fully retired.
Thanks immensely for your help with setting this up correctly. I was stumped and you made it all so clear !
Did you ever have any luck getting your bike setup?
@@aMAYSingLife Hi H4ADV. Not yet bud I am still offshore not home till the 28th. I am following your instructions and noting them down. However having a Scala Q3 and a Samsung means there are some issues I will need to resolve which differs from your set up. Getting stressed just thinking about it.
This is like studying for test for a class I might take in a school I haven’t yet been admitted to. Lol. I’m looking forward to getting a 1250GS and Nav VI at some point!!! Great video. Thanks!!!!
LOL, yeah it can get more complicated that it honestly should be but that's the world of bluetooth unfortunately.
TX a lot. It helped me very much.
Yes the 10s is limited due to its bluetooth version. good choice on setup.
Really great and informative video! Just need to fly you over here to the UK to set up my new bike! 😉
Scott C pat the flight and I’m on my way lol!
Everything was great and very clear, very helpful! I only have one problem, the Smart link app does not connect to the navigator. Any suggestions there?
Do you have a 5 or 6? I had issues with the 5 working consistently with smart app. Also if using android make sure you have it rights in the settings
Incredible video, thanks for putting so much work into this.
Question - why do you suggest routing the phone calls through TFT rather than Nav 6?
Thank you!
Newbie to tft and nav6, learnt loads from this. Thank you!
@@qnapmussi3350 I think it was an epic fail to not allow the TFT to provide intercom between rider and passenger.. what were they thinking.
Mark Miscione no you did it right. Unfortunately we lose access to that feature when we set it up this way. Glad you enjoyed the video
WheelSpin Productions Thanks for the reply! FYI, went on a ride today and everything worked well as far as music and calls are concerned. I need to spend more time with the Nav and apps to get the most out of them. But pretty happy with the ways it’s working!
Great video! And still works for a 2023.
I have been surprised how little has changed myself
Therefore I am connecting 2 different iPhones to TFT one is for media and using apple maps and Google maps second one is for yamaha link app, native Garmin connection to TFT,
And phone calls (+ music ).
Great video. Picking up GSA this week. Well done.
You’re a total pro. Nice work 👏
Thank you sir.. much appreciated..
Brilliant video - problems all solved!
KEITH SMITH glad it worked for you!
