    Thank you for this video. I recently upgraded my Sena 20S to a Sena 50S (purchased from RKA) and after installing it I had to re-pair everything to get the audio going again. This video was a useful guide to getting that done, and I have saved a summary of these steps as a Notes file on my phone in case I have to do it again.
    Also -- for the first time EVER I have audio into my helmet from all available sources -- GPS, smartphone, and my BMW K1600. Thanks Richard and Kathy!

    Thank you for the video, Richard. Walking through your procedure finally helped me understand where I was making a mistake in the pairing procedures that was preventing me from keeping the bike (radio)-to-headset connection.

    I started to watch this out of interest. I have a R1200gs LC with the nav 5. I gave up after 2.03mins.
    You have kindly produced a video to help those that struggle with bluetooth connection problems. It would in my opinion have been a better instructional video without the music diverting the watchers attention.
    Shame, but technically a source of help for some.
    Well done.

    Thank you! This worked perfectly to connect my Sena 10u on my Schuberth C3 pro to connect to the Navigator VI and GPS on my 2017 K1600GT. I used the remote control unit that came with the 10u as it does not have the jog dial due to it's stealth and sleek design.

    This is a very helpful video and much appreciated. However, on the last step when connecting the Sena 10c to the Garmin, the GPS would not "find" the Sena no matter how many times I went through the process. Finally I tried connecting the Sena to the Garmin first, then to the K1600 as a "second cell phone" next, then connecting my phone (LG G6) to the Garmin last. It worked!

      That's really great that you got it to work. BUT there is no CORRECT way, either way SHOULD work. With that said Firmware, profiles change with time and we have found (PROVEN) the OLD SMH10 will not connect using Multipoint pairing to the NEWER BMW's, why, I have no idea. SOOOO Thanks for the comment .... Get out of the car, walk around, get back in. If this continues to not work ... when everything fails ... it may be time to upgrade your headset. With that said, I use my 10C all the time to do these videos and it still connects fine either way to my 2014 RT. Seemingly the same system as yours and all GTL, GT, RT's ... Not an engineer but I did stay at a "Holiday Inn Express" the other night. ;-) 67,382 views 17 thumbs down ... I take that as a win. ;-)

    I just paired the SRL2 to my BMW 1200RT. Do not pair the SRL2 to the iPhone…..you go into Bluetooth mode and pair the BMW module on your bike under audio helmet one to the Sena SRL2, and then the Sena SRL2 to your Garmin Nav system. Then you pair your iPhone to the Garmin Nav. Works perfectly…..music playing from iPhone through nav system and when a call comes in it over rides the music, and call ends it goes back to music. The one thing you might need to do when a call comes in…..is you will need tap the speaker icon on your iPhone, which actually then shows Garmin Nav as an option to answer call…that because your iPhone is connected through the Nav system..the new system in the heart of the overall

    I've recently found that I can pair the bmw to phone 1, my smart phone to phone 2 and then the Nav v to GPS profile. I turn on the Sena before the bike and let it pair to phone. Then start the bike and let it pair to the bmw module and nav v. Then I can manually pair the smartphone to the nav v which takes over media audio splitting phone control to my smart phone. This allows me to use the Nav V live traffic, still make calls from my Sena unit with voice control and everything audio multitasks without fully taking over the channel. Took a while to get it to work but it's awesome. I can run XM thorough the BMW but I opt for the XM app as the sound is superior.

      Hi Wilhelm, Sorry but I do not understand the question. The ONLY headsets that can be connected to "Helmet 1 & Helmet 2" on the GTL or RT is the OEM BMW headsets using Firmware 2.0 :-(
      The 20S will NOT connect seamlessly to this OEM helmet. You may be able to use universal intercom, but then you lose Phone, music, navigation. I feel this answer may turn you off. Please email me so I can give more detail and links to visit .... Thanks for making the setup relatively easy. Now a question: Earbuds have much better sound quality and noise reduction than in-helmet speakers. How would this all work if you want to use bluetooth wireless earbuds like the Jabra Elite Active 75t True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds instead of speakers wired to the Sena? is it possible?

    • @Richardrka1
      @Richardrka1  3 роки тому

      That would be like trying to ride two motorcycles at the same time. Not possible the systems would clash BIG TIME. On the other hand I have had to use earbuds (plug in) as I am so hard of hearing ..... BUT ..... Now we are using and offering the SENA 50 series and I no longer need the earbuds and actually have to turn the volume down sometimes. Think about giving us a call and upgrading to the 50's ;-)

    Richard, thanks for the great video. I switched from an Interphone F4 to the Sena 20S Evo for use with my 2014 BMW R1200RT. Your wonderful tutorial connects the Sena to the bike, the phone (in my case and Android) to the Nav V, and the Nav V to the second A2DP profile. That all works well, but....
    I only use my GPS when following a route, or on a long trip. Without the GPS there is no connection for the phone in the configuration we've set up. Is there a way to have the Sena unit hear the BMW radio, and interface with the phone regardless of whether the GPS is installed or not? Thanks!

    • @Richardrka1
      @Richardrka1  6 років тому

      When you are not using the GPS (I assume not even on the moto) Connect the phone to the SENA 20S using the same profile as the GPS would use. Jog button 6 seconds then Tap phone button (Second mobile phone pairing). NOW you will receive and make calls directly through your phone. .... I do not understand why you would want to do this, as using the GPS as a phone answer allows you to SEE who is calling, but that's how you do it. When you install the GPS you will have to "remove" the phone pairing from the 20S and reconnect it with the GPS Richard RKA

    • @rfranz220
      @rfranz220 6 років тому

      Thanks for your immediate reply! Yes, I did mean that the cover is over the GPS prep mount on the motorcycle, and the GPS remains in the drawer at home. The main reason that I only bring the GPS when I need the directional support is to prevent theft of the GPS if I forget to remove it at a stop. The advantage of pairing the headset to the phone is that I have hands free (and vision free) control over incoming and outgoing calls with voice commands. You are right that with the phone connected through the GPS I can see who the incoming caller is, but my eyes are off the road, I have to reach the GPS to answer the call, and search for names I want to call.
      I had hoped that I could put the bike audio (which includes the GPS) on one A2DP profile, and the phone on the other, but there's too much interference. I tried to put the bike audio on the GPS profile, but got no sound.

    • @Richardrka1
      @Richardrka1  6 років тому

      The solution is to just forget about the whole BMW deal then. If you are afraid of theft, afraid to reach for the screen, afraid to look for numbers I can totally understand. I talk about and teach this BMW stuff. BUT in reality I do not use it.
      I use my iPhone ONLY! I connect my phone to my 30K (You may want to upgrade ... which has hands free voice commands) I use these two commands ..... "Hello SENA" .... "Hey SIRI". Not only that I use Garmin USA app on my phone for Navigation.
      Feel free to get off of this format and email me at richard@rka-luggage.com or call mye at 707 836 7659 ....
      Watch these two videos ....30K "Hello SENA" and "Hey SIRI" voice Commands .....ua-cam.com/video/qrEVgfatyjM/v-deo.html AND "SENA Bluetooth for Dummies II" .... ua-cam.com/video/ss5GoS1PYhg/v-deo.html.

    HI Richard,
    I have tried numerous times to follow your video and connect my Sena 20s Evo + BMW BT module + Nav VI. For some reason, my iPhone doesn't want to connect to my Nav VI properly.
    Strange part is that the Nav VI sees the iPhone and the Garmin Link app is able to connect. But I cannot carry phone call... The icon is grey out.
    Hope you can shed some light on this. This got to be most convoluted Bluetooth setup I have come across and I pride myself as pretty tech savvy...
    Thanks for doing this useful video.

    • @Richardrka1
      @Richardrka1  6 років тому +1

      Hi Kevin. You are missing a step somewhere. The setup is not "convoluted" it is actually pretty simple when you think about it. Three steps ....
      1: Headset to BMW module ..... Phone button ... Mobile phone pairing
      2: Headset to GPS .................... Jog button tab phone button ... Second Mobile phone pairing
      3: phone to GPS. ..... Follow Nav instructions.
      First I must admit I do not understand why your phone Icon is greyed out BUT ... I am not there with you to see what is going on.
      My mantra is "Get outta the car, walk around, and get back in".... CLEAR everything and start over. Connect ONE thing at a time and TEST. If it works go forward. Try to narrow it down and find the culprit
      This may be the biggest help to you ..... DO NOT CONNECT YOUR PHONE TO YOUR HEADSET! If you have you have created conflict and your phone does not know who to be friends with.
      Hope this helps.

      The point is to have all audio come through the helmet, but controlled by the BMW system. Personally, I don't like the audio coming through my headset. I wear earplugs to cut down noise, but listen to XM music through the BMW speakers. I connect my bluetooth headset and phone directly to the Navi. While riding, I hear music through the speakers, but telephone calls and GPS instructions through my helmet - and both are controlled through the GPS screen. Makes life simple.

    Does anyone know...
    My wife and I currently both have BMW System 6 evo helmets with the BMW communications system in each. Both helmets are paired to my R1200RT for intercomm, radio, phone and Nav 5. I'd like to change to a schuberth C4 Carbon pro with their SENA SC1 Advanced comms in. I can see from Richards vid that I can pair the new SC1 with my RT, but....if my wife stays on the BMW Evo helmet with the BMW comms, will we be able to talk to each other? In other words will we be able to use different systems through the RT? Any help greatly appreciated. Mike

      NO .... The BMW systems connect to Helmet 1 and Helmet 2 on the BMW system ... The C4 connects ONLY to helmet ONE ... Then to each other via intercom function ... I do not know WHO manufactures the BMW system for BMW BUT it is never a good idea to use different systems as you will have to use universal intercom which takes away that persons features as it uses the PHONE Bluetooth connection to connect. NOT a fan of either of these systems. Kathy and I use the new SENA 50 series .... check out the latest 50 series videos on our RKA UA-cam Page.

      My email is richard@rka-luggage.com. I see a lot of questions to ask or address in your comment that may have been presented in a different way than I can understand.
      1: "30K, NAV V and another rider" have nothing in common It's like saying you turn on your TV and your stove turns off. ;-)
      2: When connecting headsets after "voice command" says "Intercom Pairing" you need to "Tap" one of the headsets "jog Buttons" to actually start the connections looking at each other.
      3: "we could not get them to pair at all". Sounds like you think you have to re-pair them every time you stop. Even better call me at the shop 707 836 7659.
      4: You also need to understand the 30K when in Bluetooth mode is setting on top of a 10S NOT a 20S you have no audio multitasking in Bluetooth mode.
      5: The 30K DOES have audio multitasking in MESH MODE, To get full benefit of the 30K you need the other rider(s) to have one. The 30K starts shining when there are 3 and more riders
      To all those reading this ... I WILL COME BACK ... and comment on what happens. ;-)

      You are turning on the TV and turning off the stove again Bob ;-)
      "INTERCOM" as NOTHING to do with connecting DEVICES.
      You CAN have an intercom connection with a 20S
      Again ... a little confusing for me to understand what you are saying here ....
      You CAN connect to your NAV V ... BUT your XM radio does not go through your Nav V. It comes through the BMW Audio System which you also connect to under one of the other profiles has shown in the video.
      "Will I be able to pair with another 30s and have my NAV V as well"
      YES!
      Turning off the stove again.
      THE INTERCOM CONNECTION IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT THING THAN CONNECTING DEVICES. THERE IS NO CONFLICT THERE.
      Phone pairing, Second Mobile phone pairing, GPS pairing, Selective phone pairing, Media Selective pairing are ALL ways to connect to different DEVICES. Connecting the intercom to helmet 1 and to helmet 2 are in a different PROFILE .... Please if you do not understand drop me a line and we can talk outside the UA-cam environment.

      This is going to be a long answer sorry. First I assume you are on the other side of the pond. Second understand I think the BMW system is the very worst as far as quality and functionality and is using OLD technology. The short answer is to purchase another BMW system OR BEST solution is to trash the BMW headset (I know OUCH!) and purchase the SENA 20S dual set (Expensive change OUCH!) This very video explains how to connect a 20S to everything on your waterpumper. (I also own a 2014 R1200RT) I would have to do my whole seminar here to tell you why this is the best solution so here are some videos to watch from our playlist on "SENA Instructional Videos".
      #39 The SENA SMH20S App Connection
      #36 SENA .. The Full Monty
      #26 The 20S App
      #25 20S Group Intercom Setup
      #23 Universal Intercom
      Maybe the most important one to watch .... You CAN purchase another Bluetooth headset and use universal intercom connection. BUT it will not give your passenger or you all the features you need and want.......
      Sorry I cannot give you a better answer for your issue
      Take two aspirin and call me in the morning ;-)

    I wanted to hear music threw my iphone and K1600GTs GPS directions either overlay the music I'm listening to or interrupt it. I paired phone to sena 20 s evo as first mobile (or second, can't remember now) and paired to helmet one on bike as the other mobile phone pairing. Can hear everything. My only issue is when the music is playing on the phone, I can no longer hear the gps give me directions unless I stop the phone music app. I like the phone paired to sena directly because of sound quality. Is there a simple way to get what I'm looking for? I was using 1.6x firmware during this but just updated to 1.77 so a factory reset will have me starting over I imagine. Have not done that yet.

    • @Richardrka1
      @Richardrka1  6 років тому

      Hi Dave, I am going to have to assume, as you did not spill all the beans ;-). If this does not fix the issue we can contiune from email at "richard@rka-luggage.com" You meantioned ONLY the GPS (NAV V or NAV VI?) and the phone. I suspect you have "CONFLICT". Quickest form of resisitance is .... Reset, Clear, forget EVERYTHING associated with your system, EVERYTHING, headset, devices. Connect your phone to the SENA using "PHONE" profile, connect your GPS using "Second Mobile phone" profile. (you can do this either way). Your done. Test your nav by starting music on the phone, and the going to the green nav screen scroll down from "page, Zoom +, Zoom -, to "SPEAK". Push the multifunction wheel IN and the voice prompt will say "Ready to Navagate" cutting out the music. After navagation voice goes away music will resume. NOW you are making and recieving calls through THE PHONE, not the NAV, .... If you connect ANYTHING else like your GT's BT system on the GT to one of those two profiles you will get CONFLICT. Lastly .... If you have a NAV VI you DO NOT HAVE any issues as you can stream your phones music through the VI. I do not like to drag out these answers on UA-cam but feel free to email me. If you follow these instructions it will do what you want. Ride Safe. Richard RKA

    I did it and worked, 2 things to note, Sena now is in firmware 1.7 and some options have changed. One the pairing is not Multipoint and the GPS will say 'second mobile phone pairing'. I couldn't find a way to send music from my telephone to the headset other than connecting the phone to Aux on the bike I have an iphone. Own the bike for almost a year is a 16'RT. Other funny thing is that I have to turn on first the headset and then the bike, otherwise I can only hear the voice but they can not hear me. Anyway without this tutorial I wouldn't have connected.

      Hi Guillermo, TANKS for the comments of course Firmware updates are happening everyday and videos are pretty much impossible to edit once done ;-) I am working right now on a new video that will cover a lot. One of the longest ones I have done. Connecting the phone to AUX is the best way to do this!!!! Why try to make more Bluetooth connects pull against each other ;-) (This could be your issue I mention at the end) Lastly I cannot understand why you are having connection issues. It should not matter what you turn on first unless you have conflicting connections as that WILL make the headset make a decision as to what to connect to and it will connect to the first thing turned on. SO you have something double connected, and you do not need one of them. Hope this does not confuse you. STAY TUNED for the new video ... Called "Let me count the ways" should be finished this weekend. Ride safe. Richard RKA

    How does the intercom work? Is it possible to use a SENA headset and a BMW headset together, including intercom?

    • @Richardrka1
      @Richardrka1  8 років тому

      +A Hi A, SENA, Cardo, and some other headsets can use universal intercom. The headset asking for connection is fine but the one that GETS connected using universal intercom loses everything except intercom, as they are using their A2DP stereo profile to connect with. Bottom line it is always best to use headsets from the same manufacturer. DIRECT FROM THE SENA MANUAL,
      18.2 Two-way Universal Intercom
      You can initiate the Universal Intercom connection with non-Sena
      Bluetooth headsets using the same intercom connection method as
      you would between other Sena headsets. Make sure that the antenna
      is flipped up and you may single tap the Jog Dial to begin an intercom
      conversation with the first intercom friend, double tap with the second
      intercom friend, and triple tap with the third intercom friend.
      Non-Sena Bluetooth headsets may initiate the Universal Intercom
      connection by activating the voice dialing or using the redialing
      operation. You may also disconnect the existing connection by ending
      a call operation function (refer to the user’s manual of the headsets for
      voice dialing, redialing, and ending a call)

I heard the bike's radio and gps through the bike, and could use voice commands directly to my phone through the Interphone. I also plugged an iPod into the audio connector in the box on the bike, and could listen to that as well. +LawFiveUSSF Hi LawFiveUSSF, I cannot "SEE" what you are doing but if you get a Pass code 1234 it is asking your PHONE that question NOT your headset. You SHOULD have a screen on the Nav IV That says "Add Audio" "Add Phone" Audio is for the headset, Phone is for the phone. I am not good at this "You_Tube" reply stuff and I miss messages some times so lets start this conversation over and email me at "richard@rka-luggage.com". I'd be more than happy to try and get you going on the yellow brick road. Once you turn left instead of right you will NEVER get to OZ. ;-)

      +Richard Battles You are correct sir. After reviewing my steps I see that I was trying to connect the SENA 20S to the NAV as a phone instead OD "Audio". Error corrected,mall set up. Works beautifully! Your video was instrumental in helping me! Thank you!

    I tried today to pair a Sena SRL with a Nav6, an iPhone 7 and a BMW 1250RT. I managed to pair everything together (following your video step by step), but couldn’t hear the bike radio in the helmet. (Didn’t tried yet phone calls and GPS instructions). Honestly, this is really complicated.

    • @Richardrka1
      @Richardrka1  5 років тому

      Hi Wooster it's not complicated at all. ;-) You DID NOT connect everything if you could not hear the bike radio. Getting into the SRL configuration menu is the only difference from the video. There is more than one way to skin a cat but this is one way to do this ......... Start with FIRST pairing .... "Phone Paring" to BMW Module. STOP test it. Play radio, You will hear the BMW audio. GOOD. Now "Second mobile phone pairing" to Nav VI. STOP test it. From the navagation screen (green) highlight "Speak" and press in the wheel in .... you will hear the voice prompt say "Ready to Navagate" GOOD. You are DONE with the SRL. Now connect your iPhone to your Nav VI. Nav VI should show Phone Connected, SRL Connected, you are now ready to roll. THE BIG MISTAKE ...... DO NOT connect your SRL to your phone ...... CONFLICT! Richard Battles sorry for using this channel, but I have a suggestion : there is no room for keeping stuff like a U-lock, a safety yellow jacket, few tools, the GPS protection panel... the kind of things that are quite small, for which you want easy access, and that you don’t want to put in the side or top cases (as one might uses these spaces for other stuff : luggages for instance). My suggestion would be to use the passenger seat as a additional space : keep the seat as it is but take out the foam inside and make it so that it can be opened to the inside space. To put it simple : it looks like the original seat, but it is empty inside and is used like a box.
      Maybe this is the kind of accessory RKA could propose.

The BMW Module is using 2.0 Firmware, 3.0 Mbits per second. can you say Dinosaur? 4.0 24 Mbits per second. WHY they do not upgrade the firmware is beyond me. I cannot type so I will be short has possible ...... DO THIS EXPERIMENT .... Plug your smartphone into the AUX plug in your glove box. Play some music, Switch between AUX and XM and the take two aspirin and call me in the morning cuz you'll faint! I am not saying the SMH10 or even the 20S has fabulous speakers BUT ...... In addition purchase our Splugs (You need a 3.5mm input, read 20S) and you will be a better person for it ;-)

    The connection between SRL headset, nav 6 and bike is ok, but when an alert pops up on the GPS (ie “hazardous zone”), the connection with the radio gets cut ... and lost. It doesn’t switch back to the radio, and I don’t know how to get rid of these alerts. I took out traffic info in the GPS parameters, but this doesn’t help. Is there a solution to that ?

A2DP (stereo) - Phone button 5 seconds to BMW Module, HFP (mono) - Jog button for 5 seconds and tap phone button for the GPS Nav V or IV. Watch the video again. In you video the last step (Jog then phone button) to "multipoint" pairing but in firmware 1.6 I did not hear this option instead "Second mobile phone pairing" then "GPS pairing". I tried both option but failed. Can you confirm this? It seems Sena took away "multipoint pairing" Thanks

      You have TWO devices connected to the SAME PROFILE. .... CONFLICT ..... Start over ..... Delete, unpair, remove, disconnect, forget this device, EVERYTHING you are working with ..... Start with a fresh slate. NOW follow the video again .... Once you get done and everything is working ... DO NOT connect your headset to your phone!!! Again CONFLICT .... You want to use your app? Turn the moto OFF (NAV/BMW BT MODULE). connect to your phone to your headset, use the app, THEN "forget this device". when you turn on the moto again there will be NO CONFLICT. Richard RKA

      Richard Battles thanks. Yes. It works now ! I was not using the right connections from the configuration menu of the Sena SRL. I though that GPS needed to be connected as GPS and the bike as media. The GPS shall be paired as « Phone Selective » i.e. HFP and the bike as « Media Selective » i.e. A2DP

    • @richardbattles9122
      @richardbattles9122 5 років тому

      @@wooster1173 NOPE, MAY work but not correct. Here is the drill in short hand
      1: Phone pairing to BMW Module
      2: 2nd mobile phone pairing OR, GPS papring to Nav VI
      3: Smartphone to Nav VI
      If you want to use the APP on the phone FINE connect your headset to the phone and do your thing on the app. THEN FORGET this device, Unpair your phone from the headset.
      You will then be back to the proper setup
      At this point, "Media selective pairing" and "Phone Selective pairing" are NOT USED.
      PHONE SELECTIVE PAIRING is HFP you cannot use the media player directly on your Nav VI.
      If you are connecting more devices let me know.

This drill as been the same and will continue to be the same. 1: Phone to GPS, 2: Headset to GPS via "GPS Pairing" , 3: Headset to Audio system via "Phone Paring" .... DONE. Hi Alain, As been the case since 2011, The ONLY headsets that can connect to the "BMW headset TWO" are the OEM BMW headsets.
      So using the SENA, For rider to passenger use the headests intercom function, To share music use the "Music share" function. Your passenger can also use their own phone and can make their own phone calls and listen to their own music so you can listen to ZZ Top and she can listen to Yo Yo Ma ;-)

      If you have a SENA 10 series you can connect to a total of three other SENA units. If you have the 20S series you can connect to eight total headsets.
