Brilliant as usual! Every truck driver in the world will understand that smug feeling you get when you try and park in a tight space and everything goes perfect. Your reaction was priceless. Such a smug grin at the end! AND you got a compliment!!! Great driving. :-)
Only truckers "get" how it feels to make a "one shot" backup successfully...no harm in pull ups, but it's hard to explain to others how nice it feels not having to do them. It's all in the set up, my problem was, remembering the perfect set up after a "one shot" backup....frustrated the crap out me , at times. That other driver knew. The more I relaxed, slowed down, and thought for a second, the more frequent the 'one shots" happened. I got this advise from an old, seasoned driver with over 20 yrs OTR, he was 100% correct. He said things like. " Your the boss in your truck, why are breathing down your own neck, relax." Easy to say, hard to remember...for me anyway.
+Furd Felmer Good advice.Your right its your truck you do what you need to do. I would tell my wife I don't care if it takes you 15 minutes to back in a hole. As long you didnt hit anything you did a good job Thanks for watching
2 comments Dan. Great job backing in that hole. I'm 76 years old and retired now, but on my 48 foot spread axle I used the dump valve to help steer it in.If it wasn't turning fast enough, just dumped the air then put the air back once it was turning as I liked. Just an old trick i learned long ago. Anyway when you had your cheater pipe in your winch bar and was jumping up and down on it I had to cringe. I did the same thing only without a cheater bar and the tapered end in the winch broke and put me on the ground lol. We found the the tip was actually faulty and was cracked as it was a brand new bar. I enjoy your vids as I have hauled into and out of a lot of the same places you do. It's a shame the way the truck stops have changed since back in the fifties when I started riding with my dad. Thanks for the memories, Ken
+Kenneth Tanner Thanks for watching I have a dump Valve on the rear axle of the trailer. I always dump the rear axle. It does make the trailer respond better when backing up.
Big Dan is the MAN,the backing King,,watching you tightening the winches reminded me that I keep an old gear oil bottle with old oil and I keep oil on my winches where they turn,it sure makes the winch move great while tightening,it doesn't take much and doesn't cause a mess,I've tried grease too but its more difficult to get in that close area,I believe if it's metal to metal it needs lubercation..Hope you trip is stress free.👍👍
Thanks for the vlog Dan. Overall another good day of flatbed work even with the pallet issue. As you well know, if there wasn't some problem with a load then something really would be wrong. Traffic, traffic, traffic. Take care and remain safe.
that's an awesome feeling when you are trying to back in a hole in a truck stop and and other trucks are moving around, and you nail it first try, then get a compliment about how you did. had that happen a few times to me but it sucks that the trucks stops are filled up that early or I guess what sucks is the loves and pilot have very little parking.
Yeah not bad for a flatbeder I've been flatbeding for 24 years can't back worth a crap. You know we just don't do a lot of backing. Great videos hurry up with the next one!!
Yeah, that high rise building with the two Antennas, the locals called it The Batman building. I was in Nashville in 1998 working on The Green Mile in the old prison, great folks in Nashville TN...
Yep,I don't wanna brag, but I've been just about all over this here United States and Alaska and a couple of States in Mexico, just retired from the Motion Picture Industry, in the Transportation Craft.
Not me, but i know some drivers that would say "don't you have mirrors? What the heck are you doing hanging out the door like that" Great job DRIVER!!!
Excellent backing up Dan you an excellent job on anything that you do tieing a load keeping your truck and the trailer clean you're a mark of excellence
You slide that trailer in there smooth as silk, Dan. Impressive, especially with the pressure of traffic waiting on you to get in the truck stop. You got your ducks in a row, sir!
I love your videos. So interesting. This run today will take you near Chattanooga, Tennessee and into Trenton Georgia. I live in Tennessee, my family in Georgia and my sister-in-law and family live in Alabama near Trenton. I can go to 3 states in 2 hours. Be safe!!
Looks like the trucker next to you wanted to keep talking but you quickly shut the window. The drone would of filmed you backing in ,that would be cool.
I always wanted to ask you if you ever did take tours of famous locations on your days off. Dan you sure have a lot of patience driving in congested areas, those little cars would drive me nuts. I drive the I-5 corridor and these yuppies are nuts, you have to drive Seattle and Portland at 2:00 in the morning. I see why you are in the Midwest. Well anyway drive safe and great videos .Hi Kallie you little potlicker Dave..
+Tarheel Boy It took me years practice to ignore the crazy little cars. Usually I'm just listening to talk radio. I'll get there when I get there Thanks for watching
I like ur vids Mr truck driver, down to earth an very professional, anyways I worked in the Houston ship channel & mississippi river on barges right out of high school, man look its great pay but hard work noooo doubt lol building tow, basic maintaining boat an normal house chores plus lil engine room work depending on what push boat ya on,u think chain n binders are a pain them rachets n cables will make u swear often lol, stay safe n ya travels
Impressive backing up. Enjoy your videos, and I think they're good information for loading and securing, as well as to get an insight into a truckers life. Learned a lot, and if I was to get into the business your videos are great help. Just out of curiosity how does the payments for the loads work. Does Mercer handle all that so you don't have to follow up and make sure the customers pay and stuff like that? What's the paperwork like? And did you ever have trouble getting paid? So a bit insight into the good and bad about that stuff would be interesting. Also if you could share a bit about damaged loads, or customers who claim damages and so on that would be interesting. If you already haven't talked about it in a video that is. Haven't had time to watch them all yet :)
+Odd-Jarle Kristoffersen Mercer handles everything concerning the customer and payment. I have never had an issue with getting paid from Mercer Thanks for watching
My dad always said he could not pull a flatbed because he would be so worried about the load shifting, he would be stopping every mile to check his straps! Why should they get mad your not pulling a refer nor hauling cows!
Brilliant as usual!
