Hi Dan, great video. I had a break pod leak air so bad the compressor couldn't keep up, I made it to a rest park and there I sat. A nice veteran driver came by and told me "take the airline off and put a dime in the fitting and re-connect. then back off the break and get to a shop."" Will never forget that guy.
Yeah that price was better that i thought it was gonna be...phew! Especially for a $35.00 brake chamber. Keep that tool that comes with the new chamber Dan. That way you can block off the line with a dime or fold it and clamp it with a pair of vice grips and zip tie it to another line securely and then use that tool to back off that Chambers air flow. Sorry i didn't know about the dime...lol...but the vice grips worked and i made my delivery and then got my repair. Glad your back up'n rolling👍
I keep a pancake gasket in the truck at all times. Never know when you have to change one out. I know these days most just change out the chamber. But that pancake can and has saved my tail.
hello Dan. this is Kelvin from Alabama. glad to see you headed somewhat to my neck of the woods. sorry about the brake problems. those dang Chambers just don't seem to last long anymore. I have had to change all 4 on the rear of my peterbilt. never a good time or place for a breakdown. be careful Dan. happy trails
Had one fail once on the trailer out in the middle of nowhere, locked up the brake, had to cap off the line and uses chain n boomer to unset the brake just to get somewhere to get it fixed.Been a while, early 90, dot wasn't so prevalent then.
bless your heart super trucker Dan well until next time be safe out there on your adventure from Paris Texas God bless you and and thank you for keeping American rolling
Dan, I love how you explain the details of your job! It is interesting to me and I always learn something. Thank you for your great videos and Safe Roads!
Changing the brakes pots was one of the first jobs I did when I started work as an apprentice mechanic back in 1972. Easy job really was long as you drain all the air, even 5 psi can make them into short range missiles. The other thing after you put it on is to check the slack adjuster so you don't have a grabbing brake, damn hard on the tires. Thanks for the video.
Great vlog Dan, sorry to hear your problems but you covered it great and enjoy your description of how you secured and tarped up. I'm a new sub from the UK and also vlog daily.
If it would have broken in Atlanta you could have swung it by my place and user my tools to fix it up. If your ever in Atlanta and need something hit me up. If I'm out on the road I have a lot of connections especially on the south side of Atlanta and Macon area.
Thanks for showing how You tarp Your loads, And work on the Truck at the same time. Glad You made to Atl. Came down I20 Mon., and HP had no cars, but several Tractor trailer stopped in Al. and MS.
Repair is fairly easy you just have to be careful of the spring in the top. Dan happened to be on I-40 in Alb. today when we were passed by a Mercer with a red tractor
Seems to me, back in the day (1970s-1980s) brake pots had a shaft and bolt coming out the 'back'. By tightening down on the bolt you kept the brake from functioning; I wonder if that would have worked to stop the air leak. Perhaps this was just on trailer brakes?! Of course you are then short one brake and will not pass a vehicle inspection. Truckin', great job keeping her rolling!
"had to wait for the paint to dry..." just in time ordering, just in time manufacturing, just in time trucking, just in time repair... make sure the paint on the brake part is dry LOL!
that ta in meridian sucks..sat there 8 hours once only to be told they couldn't find the problem. ended up fixing my truck myself by replacing a fuse. just my luck
I just took notice of the seats in your truck, they are not factory are they? They look very comfortable. Is nice when things go your way, you can stay on schedule, very cool..
Dan your rubber pancake is called a Diaphragm,,sorry for sounding like a know it all but my dad and me used to own our own trucks and we used to do most of our own maintenance, ive fixed loads of spring brake chambers or tractors and trailers
great video ..now after watching you wrench on everything else is that impossible to change in the parking lot yourself if you had the parts just curious? Again great videos big Dan
+Frederic Koning Yes I thought it was a fair price for the repair. Sometimes it's not the cost of the repair that's expensive it's the time lost or load lost that's cost the most money
Hey thanks for sharing your info & videos I am learning big time hopefully some day it far away I'll be able to apply your learned knowledge I'm looking to get aboard a company that train me thank u🚜🚜🚜
Thank you Dan , you helped me remember to bring my blow gun in so the guys in the garage can put it in the truck.i saw yours hanging on the wall behind you LOL. THANKS !
jeepers-they used to be $57 my cost for a maxi-double. now-can u legally change that urself nowadays with the new laws? they was just starting to fuss about us having to go to brake school in 96.
You ever stop to think they exist so your company or your self, if an owner/op, don't get run into the fucking dirt. It's also so you don't fall asleep at the wheel because you want to be a super trucker and run 2000 miles high on meth and plow into a four wheeler. The regs don't exist to screw over your pay check.
Yeah, watch them both and they are good. Also, Heavy Haul TV, Sergei Dratchev. Like Life is Good, also. He just got a new 389 Pete with all the bells & whistles from Peterbilt Steve, Rush Truck Center, Tulsa. Peterbilt Steve has great vids of new Pete's, too.
Dan fixes most things on his truck, but, besides not having the part and being on the road, the spring in a brake chamber will kill you if you don't have the equipment to handle it safely.

I will remember that too
Thanks for watching
Put the dine where in the airline? The glad-hand? Where it attaches to the brake chamber?

Dan that shows your experience being able to detect that leak while in the cab. I am happy for you the cost was not to much thanks for the video.
Good to hear the repair was not too much hassle. Always enjoy your videos man. Hammer down.

So did it ruin a couple tires besides the rest of the problem?
Great video! You made it look easy enough, that I worry that I avoid trying it, and am losing out on the money that can be made tarping!
Bad luck. Have a rest and go for it. I'm sure you will do it! 👍
+Adrian Lockley
I made it. Things went good today
Thanks for watching
bless your heart super trucker Dan well until next time be safe out there on your adventure from Paris Texas God bless you and and thank you for keeping American rolling

Really Happy that the repair went well and was pretty reasonable, just be careful and take care....

Is nice when things go your way, you can stay on schedule, very cool..
Nice video and nice haircut. sorry you had truck problems.
That is awesome glad you're back on the road be safe!!
Thought you would change it after seeing you work on the generator. Chamber is an easy ffix if you carried the part. Good to have a few spares.
It's understandable Dan.... Not a problem.

Happy Fourth of July Everybody! COOL Dog! Thanks for the laughs and videos. Safe travels.
A list of ongoing repairs which are just routine maintenance given the miles your drive. Seems have to turned out for a reasonable price.
+Frederic Koning

Owner operators are playing catch up. In one of your earlier videos you discussed the need to keep rolling and take the long view.

Hey Dan, Hope the $hop didn't hit you too bad. My God, I'm far too old n lazy to mess w/all that padding/tarping/strapping.
Thank you Dan , you helped me remember to bring my blow gun in so the guys in the garage can put it in the truck.i saw yours hanging on the wall behind you LOL. THANKS !
Super trucker Dan whenever you get a chance it's better to change on all of them
Your hair looks much better than before ! You changed the style ?!
+Ron Paker
I forgot to mention that I got a hair cut yesterday.
TRUCK 16926 headed to Beaumont,ALBERTA.... 👍👍
back the brake off pinch off the line with vice grips then fix as soon as possible no biggy easy fix just a diaphragm shot
the brake chamber is easier than the exhaust to replace. maybe a skill level "b" .
about 35min
Hope you have multiples of your 2 tshirts haha , great vid as always

Here's a perfect example of why the HOS/ ELOG can be a hinderance with your scheduling.

Nice tune Sir.
Good vid sorry about the luck man but hey things break when you work them how many miles do you have on her?
Have you thought about making live videos..
you are very efficient at tarpping and untarping, is there a flat rate they pay extra to have it tarped?
+dropn loads
The rates for tarping very from load to load
I try to take the ones that pay the most
Thanks for watching
Yooo feelin the intro song
Dan. do you watch Joe Donovan ot Nick morandant. heavy haul flatbed good vids
I'm looking into becoming an owner operator. NOT looking forward to breaking down
Looking at an early model 389 USED
Why would this load need to be covered?
The shippers get off on watching truck drivers sweat. They think the cost is too high so they exact some revenge by making them tarp it.
Jeffry Gilbert it's metal I just don't see the point of tarping this load
Yuriy Pono Neither does anyone with any common sense which is my entire point.
Hey is it best to drive flatbed then to pull a trailer??
+Marlon Hooks
Flatbed pays a little more than van but requires a little more Physical labor
Thanks for watching
oh ok. Thanks for responding. Some people don't ever respond back.. kinda shock lol.
How much Home time you give yourself??
+Marlon Hooks
I usually stay out 3-4 weeks then try to take 7-10 days off
Do you have to pay UA-cam for your channel?
+John Capone
No anybody can post videos on UA-cam
glad you werent r i p p e d off...
why you yanks cant fix things yourself?need learn fix minor issues,,,,besides easy acces to engine on us trucks....
Dan fixes most things on his truck, but, besides not having the part and being on the road, the spring in a brake chamber will kill you if you don't have the equipment to handle it safely.
+Frank Swain
Thanks Frank you are Exactly right. I can only carry so many spare parts and tools
