hey double b....nice stuff...trane is trane...the village vanguard brings back cool memories...never got to see trane there, sadly, but still cool....and that helen merrill...born to be blue...so hot...what a great voice indeed...nice finds my friend...stay well...stay warm...peace...rocky
Bob, like you, I decided that for 2022 I'm going to be more selective with regard to my purchases. But, my goodness, the reissues have been so amazing that it has yet to happen. I have purchased every one of the recordings you mentioned and more. While my wallet is much lighter, I'm totally pleased and thrilled to have them in my collection. Very nicely done, as always, Bob and I'm looking forward to your next segment.
I have had the situation where I thought I was getting those Analog Productions releases only to be put on a backorder list. So frustrating!!!! I did just recently get Tenor Madness and Someday My Prince Will Come is in the mail. I really like the Crescent album by John Coltrane. The jazz releases have been wonderful and you have picked up some great stuff as always. Have a great week!
Don’t worry if you couldn’t pick up any more titles in The Analogue Productions Prestige Series. Once Chad gets the sleeve in. There going to be in print again. The last couple weeks he just release album that he had cover leftover from the last run.
For me, The Big Beat is Blakey's best record. I prefer it to Moanin' which, apart from the title cut, is generally not as good. Lee Morgan is blazing on The Big Beat making this one of his greatest records. I suggest 'Paper Moon' as a sampler if anyone wants to check that out.
Twice now I have bought Prestige albums from Acoustic Sounds that they changed to backorder after I placed the order. Their inventory is manual I think? Impossible to even know which albums have been repressed because some of them are there and gone within the span of an afternoon. Acoustic Sounds doesn't even know themselves which albums have sold out until the next day. You would think they would look at how many backorders they have when deciding how many to repress... but I would be surprised if they are even doing that. I did get to talk to someone over the phone and he was very nice. So that made me feel a little better. And now I have just placed a bunch of them on backorder like I'm sure 1,000s of others have.
Here's the deal. The Prestige Series that Acoustic Sounds is selling is from their previous pressings and is back stock they had. There will be a complete staged release in 6-12 month's. Chad let the cat out of the bag at the end of the Lacquer video with the Mikes. Do what you will but I'm suggesting saving your money for the official releases when they come out for $40.
@@Vaga365 That's plausible, but the guy I spoke to on the phone made it sound like they were just pressing in really small batches, plus, the back stock would have still been 200g and I think what they've been selling now are 180g (at least the Eric Dolphy I snagged seems to be). Either way, you are probably right that we just need to wait till later in the year for the proper releases (i.e. larger print runs) to begin. I am definitely not buying any of these on Discogs before then.
Picked up Live at the Village Vanguard too and just like you, have only come across beat copies of it in the past. 2022 is looking great for the Tone Poet series in particular and those restocks of the Analogue Productions records have been incredible!
Great records Bob! I have this exact Helen Merill release, as well as the OG in VG+ . The audiophile version sounds great and is as close as it gets to the original, but my mono 1955 OG still sounds slightly better despite being noisier! The clarity of Helen's voice on the OG is simply amazing! It feels like she is sitting with me in the room when she sings! I really enjoy your videos! Your music taste is very close to mine! Looking forward to the next one!👍 Greetings from Switzerland!
I jumped on that Eric Dolphy 'Outward Bound' too and was excited to add it to my record collection. Imagine my surprise when I was entering it in my vinyl record database and see that I had an OG that I had acquired a few years ago! The OG is in beautiful shape and sounds beautiful. LOL. I guess this happens when you have too many records. Thanks for your post.
Great video as usual. So many great records, also loved seeing where you are at the end, we are currently in 88 degree heat here in Australia with the AC pumping while the John Coltrane Lush Life mono reissue is a-jumping.
Great pick ups Bob! My local shop got some Coltrane in recently. I picked up that Village Vanguard and Impressions. Both MCA Impulse's. They sound great. Cheers!
That is a killer haul. Recently got Art Blakey - Buhaina's Delight (Bluenote 80 series) featuring Hubbard and Shorter. It is an awesome album with really nice Blakey solos.
Hello Bob, I have an OG of John Coltrane at the Village Vanguard and it sounds amazing I wanted to pick up Crescent but haven't had a chance yet I'm glad you said it sound great. Now that you said that Art Blakey The Big Beat is really a Lee Morgan album I will pick it up I love Lee Morgan he is one of my favorite Jazz players I did manage to pick up Duke and Coltrane just haven't had time to listen to it yet.
The Herbie Nichols is “mono” on the label only. The grooves are cut in stereo. Tried my mono cart and that dog wouldn’t hunt. Still fabulous sounding with the proper stereo cart.
Ah, I have a mono switch on my preamp, and I usually click it for mono Stuff. ( which doesn’t really matter I suppose ) but now I’ll have to check it out in stereo! Thanks for the info cheers!
Yes I’ve been clamping up some records no heat with great results and I also melted the shit out of a Christopher cross record lol 😂 it’s a device that gets mixed results. But it’s nice to have, but you do have to be careful!
A nice "stack" indeed, I've been getting those Blue Note Classics in the digital form and quite happy with the sound. I had to smile about the Art Blakey, even though I listened to the early Blakey I enjoyed the late 70's early 80's Blakey when Wynton and Branford joined the band. It just felt like Blakey slowed down a bit and didn't take over the recordings as he sometimes would. I got to listen to the Big Beat album, it's been awhile.
Nice purchases bob. Will have to pick up on that helen merrill, ive been looking at it for awhile. I do have helen merrill's Dream of You with Gil Evans orchestra on emarcy which is beautiful but sort of rare. Check it out if you have a chance. Thanks again for an entertaining video!
@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL it is slightly low but it has a very hollow sound to it, and your voice can really add to the channel. Maybe invest in a lav mic or a more premium cardioid mic. I fell with the content you make looks good but the sound is just not there yet.

It's like the Universe is just trying to have me pick up that Helen Merrill....jeez.
Enjoyed this as usual, Bob.
Thanks Tara, it’s wonderful sounding :)

Another great show. I’ve been listening to Coltrane and turrentine , thx for opening my ears bob
Cheers to that!
Hi Bob yes the Harvey Nichols the is part of the classic series.
Thanks, cheers
Nice, got quite a few of them will check out that Eric Dophy and Helen Merrill.

Cheers to that!

Big Bob, amazing work as usual🔥 I'm definitely on the hunt for that Coltrane.🔥
Such great records. Enjoyed all the stuff.
I just got The Big Beat this week also and couldn't be happier with it...

Sounds like that OG IS SERIOUS!
Love that Helen Merrill record. That and the Peggy Lee Black Coffee are two of my favorite female jazz vocal records.
I still have to get that Peggy Lee!
Track down the EmArcy/Acoustic Sounds press of Sarah Vaughan.

I got the AP Outward repress. It’s great. I also have it in a Twofer. This is the first time where I have all the same records.
Cheers to that Rob!

Those AP Prestige really are exceptional. I did take time to do a whole video on McLean Out! Because in imho it’s a very very special album.
I totally agree, it’s a fantastic record. I was really pleased with this pressing. Cheers and I’ll check out the video ;)
Nice . I have had no luck with the Herbie Nichols pressings have bee warped

Did you get that Dolphy directly from Analogue Productions? I have ordered a bunch of Prestige titles that are awaiting repress.
I did get it directly from acoustic sounds .
Coltrane is always good for hot jam.

Bob I like your content, but please invest in a Mic.
