Note for anyone considering the Tana: On handling for the Tana, (depending on the patches current flight model) it's actually very maneuverable if you hotkey the vertical/horizontal wing position and use that to your advantage. If you think of the wing as long levers for control, whatever axis the flat of the wing is on your ship will rotates gloriously on. The axis the wing isn't aligned with will have more difficulty rotating. So if you toggle that wing rotate button before pivoting on an axis, you'll turn on a Nickle with change to spare. It takes practice to get this wing rotation maneuvering down, but if you're one of those folk like my who relish the challenge of difficult flying with reward for getting the skill down, you'll love it. To me, it's like driving stick-shift rather than automatic, a tad more difficult but more enjoyable and worth the experience.
I swapped my titan for one. The design reminds me of something out of star wars, which I love, and the cockpit view is amazing. It does fly a little funky, but all the pros outweigh the cons and I even manage to get player bounties with it pretty consistently. I absolutely love it!
I had been told by people that it was actually designed by the same person who designed the B-Wing from Star Wars, which is one of the reasons they are so reticent to update the poor things.
For me personally this ship is everything I wanted the Cutty Black to be just as a light fighter. Its the starter I'm going with because I think starter ships are something everyone should have at least one of cause how disposable and efficient they can be. Its great for bounty missions and even bunker missions once you get the hang of it. It has has a vtol which is great for those super fast take offs/climbing in atmo. Two beds. All the amenities you need. Its also loaded to gills with missiles. Also I think early modeling of the tana and the ranger bikes have shown you will be able to fit one inside even the tana. Of course there is no cargo grid so maybe the core will be better for that.
Something that the Reliant does that other ships can't is give you some security when answering player pick up beacons. In this you can rotate the cabin to effectively block access to you and prevent a would be pirate shooting you in the back of the head and stealing your ship.
@@billyhyde1415 If you don't mind being a bit of a jerk you can leave people on the Nomads pickup bed outside the ship too, oxygen levels permitting. And the MSR has locks on the doors and many many doors should you want to refuse passengers access to the cockpit ^^
Awesome review, Farrister. I've taken my Tana around lots of places. Absolutely love the cabin visibility. It's got a terrific HUD layout with the screens up and away from blocking what's important. Now if I could just stop slamming the wings into random objects, that'd be perfect...
Another great review! I had a Kore for awhile but, as a space trucker, I traded up to a Cutty Black that became a Freelancer Max that became a Connie Taurus. Good times!
One thing to mention is that all the Reliant series (Kore, Tana, etc) have trouble spawning as of the time of this writing. When you retrieve your ship it's often in vertical mode and inaccessible. It only works if you claim it and retrieve it immediately. So the workaround is to never log off at a station or planet, and always claim the ship when you wake up at your next gaming session. Also, it does not look like the Tana can be purchased with real money at this time. The Reliant Kore is available, but I could not find a price for the Tana. Correct me if I'm wrong, however.
Yeah the reliant series has had a rough existence. Not too long ago, landing a bit hard would break off a wing and we went through a time when mission boxes would fall through the floor. It's not one of the more popular ships, so it doesn't get a high priority for bug fixes,
Simply store and retrieve your ship until it become claimable. I usually just need to do it 1 or 2 times To check if your ship spawn properly, simply stand still and check the distant to your ship is changing or not (+ or - 1meter). If it's changing, it means it spawn in retarded mode
I think I've tried storing and retrieving multiple times but I could never get it to spawn correctly. Although I'll try that with that distance tip. Thanks!
@@Fletchman1313 You need to claim it not retrieve it. The ship becomes claimable once it begins bouncing on the pad. It would switch between claim/store state on the terminal, so you just need to hit claim once it pop up
@@stevenford6107 Ok, it hasn't quite worked out. I can see the distance fluctuating slightly, but it doesn't switch between claim/store on the terminal.
The Tana is probably my favorite ship that I don't own - it just oozes personality and charm, and (like all the Reliants) is great for a pilot whose child or significant other wants to join in occasionally, but doesn't really want their own ship. You sum it up well - this is a ship than really perform, but takes a greater degree of practice and customization to get there.
I personally own a Reliant Sen I bought as a pledge, which is essentially the same with lot less missiles (but still missile capable). I use her as a daily ship, so I'd like to give it a "small" practical review here. The Reliant serie is awesome on paper, but still suffer a lot of bugs and functional issues. I'm going to list them, starting from what I feel the worst. 1) The worst bug is the retrieving bug, where the ship appears in an odd position in hangars and pads. Yes there's the workaround where it works if you claim it instead of retrieving it. But it will reinitalize the ship and so you lose all its contents (cargo and crates for instance) and all the tweaking you applied to your ship flight configuration (I usually overclock the power generator, engage the stealth mode, optimize IR and reassign the weapon mouse's buttons). 2) You can't use the beds to log-off on this ship line. If you do, you will relog on vertical configuration, preventing you to access the ship's pilot seat as the door will be close for you. If you do so, the only way to come back from deep space will be suicide, respawn and claim. Which is very bad considering the ongoing death/medical gameplay and persistant ships features. 3) Not really a bug, but as someone else pointed, its really annoying that she can't switch to horizontal mode while warping. I would be neat to leave the seat and reach the cabin to do some work in the living quarter while travelling, or just leaving sit to use the bathroom ! 4) I have an issue with Reliant Sen when I take a copilot, he takes control of the 2 wings turrets but can't use them. While the pilot cannot use them anymore. Looks like you dont have this issue with the Tana. So as you can see, most of these issues are related to the ship position mode. I have good hope that this will be adressed on a future ship rework at some point. Just hoping that they will also adress the 3rd point, which is still playable as it, but would be a considerable advance in terms of gameplay / roleplay. Talking of gameplay, the ship is really awesome. Especially the variants roles Mako and Sen. Giving them special roles (media and science), but keeping the possibility to weaponize them. AFAIK, the guns firepower and flight performances are the same for the 4 ships of the line. Except for the tana's huge missiles storage allowed by its role. The maneuvrability of the ship is a bit sluggish and slower than others light fighters of similar size. But it can be compensated by the fact your weapons are all gimballed. With my Reliant Sen, I usually use 2x2 S2 gimballed laser canons on wings tips, and 2x S1 gimball ballistic "finishing" gatlings under wings. Also I switch the stock 4x S2 missiles with 8x S1 missiles. With my Reliant Sen configuration I'm able to do some bounty up to medium threat, where it start becoming challenging. But I also have to say that I'm not a very good fighter pilot myself. Reliant's flight model could be confusing for someone used to classic fighters like Arrow or Gladius. I'm still training with it. Lastly I started using it with uncoupled and feel that's the way to use it efficiently for space combat. Decoupled mode helps a lot to keep your target in front and to show the smallest surface possible while maneuvering around your target (Reliants have a huge surface from top, but very small while facing). It terms of thrusters and acceleration vectors, the ship is behind others comparable ships. But I've also noticed that the ships afterburner's duration is quite long. This probably compensate its default slugginess. I often use afterburner while fighting, navigating or maneuvering. And never have to wait too long for them to spool and use it again. BTW, I dont have any numbers to compare with others fighter ships, but testing afterburner's behaviors between ships could be interesting. Someone also said that the wing tip turrets can be annoying to use as they are very far from the ship's center. I personnally havent noticed any special issues here. On the contrary, I think their positions can be an advantage as they arent obstructed by others ship's components. The only issue would be the wings low HP, but this has been resolved and they show much more resilience than before (I dont lose wings on the first shots anymore). I'm mainly a solo player and I really like the versatility of the reliant Sen. It can be handled by only one person without penalty for leaving a turret unmanned. But still can use a copilot in an efficient way. It can easily handle a lot of mission types. At first, I mainly bought the Reliant as a pledge for its living quarter. Making it able to store a lot of mission crates, while still being able to show some fighting capacity. Also her scientific equipments seduced me as its the kind of role I would like to assume in the future, even if the gameplay is not already implemented. Reliant can also be really effective for people transportation. It depends of the model, but my Reliant Sen have 1 pilot seat, 1 copilot seat, 1 science seat and 2 beds. So you can securely embark a total of 5 persons, including the pilot. Not bad for a ship this size! I havent tried it yet, but I think the Sen could be really effective as a scout ship embedded in mining parties. She's suppose to embark good science sensors and could be efficient to spot best rocks/asteroids while the rest of the party is mining. And she can also be used as an escord considering her weapons loadout. Reliants comes with two S0 radars, having one dedicated for each variant. However, in the future, I dont know if switching wing tip specific scanner to additional turret guns would remove Sen and Mako additonal radar and special roles abilities for science scanning and media recording. One role I wont consider using Reliant serie for is trading. Sen and Mako have no cargo capacity at all. Tana is a joke with 1 SCU and Kore, which is the "Freight" model for this class, only have 6 SCUs. Kore capacity is way too low compared to other cargo ship on the same price range, like the Nomad with her 24 SCUs. Although, I would like Sen and Mako to get the Tana's 1 SCU to be able to transport a few cargo (for smuggling for example). But it would require some space inside the rear cabin. So I dont think CIG will ever make this happens ;-) Last thing I would like to be upgraded on this ship is his quantum fuel capacity. I like to see them as being able to go a little deeper in space than other ships. Especially for the Sen and the Mako. Doing exploration science or media reporting would require ships to be able to navigate further without requiring to replenish. At the moment, my ship engine has been replaced by a Atlas QT drive. Which is the best compromise for speed (152Mm/s) and range (77MKm) on Stanton. But I'd like to see CIG upgrading the 583L tank to something like 650-700-ish that others exploration vessels have. But also the Kore at some point: considering his small cargo capacity for a freight ship, it would make it more interesting as a "deep space / small freighter" role. So, if someone from CIG reads this, please consider it :) To conclude, there are better options on this size/price range if you only want to do combat missions. But if you want a cheap and versatile ship able to do more than just combat, but still having some punch to defend and handle some fights, Reliants serie is the way to go!
Thanks for your write-up, I have been wondering about the Sen myself and this is all useful to know. My main deterent factor currently is the lack of that 1 SCU that would ensure that it can also do delivery missions (since as far as I know they said that the boxes will not be transportable just like we do it now on the floor of a living area). Without this, I am not sure if the Sen will be able to perform as a real starter ship at the very start of the game, and I am not too sure that science will be viable to do for income at the same time as box delivery. If box-delivery was a certainty, then the Sen would be an excellent choice to cover both start of one's career and a specialized role. I hope it gets there in a future rework.
Sen should eventually be able to mount a mining laser on one of the wingtips and have 1 or 2 scu of space just for minerals the way the prospector has 12.
Daily driver of the Tana here too! I've purchased with auec quite a few different ships, but the only ship I kept returning to was my Tana. I am one stingy bugger, so I didn't think I'd buy anything other than the starter pack, but the Tana is the only ship that I went out and purchased with real money, and I love my little moth so much I even purchased a fancy paint for it. It's well worth the money to me.
I have a lot of big ships, and am usually a big ship kind of person, but I think the MISC Reliant line is my favorite of the smaller ones, I love the view
@@msihcs8171 I'm saving up my money to get a new PC so I can play. I'm hoping to be in game by Christmas. I've got the Anvil Pisces starter pack. I love the Drake line of ships, this is one of the few outside of the Drake line that I love it's looks and potential for usefulness.
Another great review! This thing absolutely rips if you go for the fixed 6xS2-Weapons-Loadout, prererably Omniskys - it just tears through small to medium sized ships - awesome for bounty hunting!
Got one just for the looks, fell in love after actually using it, its a great 2 person ship with missile operator, or daily driver, biggest cons is the powerplant and thrusters though
I just purchased the Reliant Tana today, I've been eyeing that ship for a very long time. It's incredibility fun to fly, and can't wait to finish more missions to get more in-game money so I can make some needed improvements to it.
@@Farrister I finally got the improvements and modifications to it. It gets more fun the more I fly it. Now it’s packing 4 attrition 2’s and two buzzsaws. It just shreds everything! Now if the developers we just kindly fix the bugs of my Tana spawning in and in vertical mode, that would be great….
I've been playing for months now. I have several of the other fighters now. I still keep coming back to this great starter when I want to knock out a VHRT quickly and efficiently. My biggest complaint is it's very short QT range. This and the Drake Cutlass Black, were the first two ships I absolutely fell in love with. I still love my Tana and Cutlass.
I love the Tana. I haven't tried many ships, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Maybe if I'd flown an Avenger or 325a I'd be singing another tune, but the Tana is absolutely incredible on paper, and a very capable ship in reality as far as I can tell. 6 size 2 weapons absolutely shreds targets. By far the highest damage you can get out of a starter ship. If you're doing illegal monitor missions (which are probably your bread and butter if you're still in a starter ship) the Tana obliterates those very quickly. If you're doing bounties, you should annihilate anything up to HRTs. VHRTs are definitely doable (I've done many myself, and I'm not particularly skilled) but are where you really start to have to work for your kills. I've struggled to do the 3 part VHRT missions, but again I'm a new player myself, not particularly skilled. I'm sure there are people out there that farm them in a Tana and consider them to be easy. The beds, bathroom, weapons rack, armor storage, box storage and co-pilot seat are all basically useless for most players and especially useless in 3.14, but if I were to buy it through a pledge, I imagine I'd be happy knowing that my ship is so well future-proofed. I feel like its especially good as a starter ship because of the high damage. If you aren't particularly good, flying a Gladius, Arrow or Talon isn't going to help you that much. You're still bad. You're going to get hit, going to miss a lot, won't know what speed to approach targets at... etc. If you're terrible, and all you can do is occasionally blap a target when he makes a mistake... then you might as well blap him with 6 size 2 laser cannons until your capacitor runs out - dealing far more damage than those dedicated fighters could. Doesn't take much skill to punish the enemy when they fuck up. Excellent review as always Farrister. I hope that when Star Citizen starts to blow up in popularity, this channel makes you rich. Your vids are very well done, very polished. You deserve it.
Great notes! And that's kind of you to say - I'm very fortunate in my job and don't need the channel to make me rich, but it means so much to me when people take the time to watch or comment on my videos, it makes it all worth while!
Great video! I think that the Tana is a fun ship, with a unique character. The pilot does have to work harder, though, than say an Arrow pilot, to get the best out of the ship.👍
Farrister my friend, CIG should hire you for voice over and presentations. Keep em coming cheers Edit: At that prize point, 2 beds, toilet, turret, space for loot and boxes, 2 small shields and 20 missiles, imo, Tana is 100% worth 75irlaue or 880k :D One of my favourite ships and top 3 pvp for me personally. Once missiles work 100% Tana will be in top 5 top ships
When they announced the next wipe, the Tana was the first ship I bought with my IG money, since then I have been flying it 90% of the time. It's a surprisingly good little ship with very good weaponry for its size. i agree with most of what you said! The biggest downside is definitely the weird flight model when the ship switches to "flat" mode in atmo. BTW, your "voice" seems to be back, well done ;)
@@Farrister This one is much better than the previous one I'd say, this is more your voice/identity...which is great! For feedback, I would say it might be a bit harsh at some times, having hard sounds emphasised with your "ck" & "ts" at moments, but that's not much of a big deal ;)
I think it's worth mentioning that losing a wing can completely remove the ability to thrust in some directions making the Reliants even harder to manage landing.
Love the Tana it is my daily flier. Up until recent patch I was soloing VHRT's in it without a problem. But as you said since 3.14 I haven't done as much BH so MRT is likely where it lands for most starters. Also the Missile Operator can launch volleys directly behind the ship which makes it great when as said you are joisting your targets.
@@Farrister Yes that was my hope as well. But its still a great ship punching well above its size. It's our Org designated fighter so a swarm of them is pretty deadly.
question, I have a gatac syulen, would it be worth paying 5$ to upgrade my pledge to this reliant tana? of should i keep the syulen. don't really do cargo hauls, that's the only really upside of the syulen i see thus far
Interesting report Farrister. The Reliant class ships are unique and different. I've flown one, not my own, once and at the time it was essentially a very weak ship, that was easily broken. The rotational wing configuration is ok, but when you are flying it, is easy to forget that it is in the vertical position when you are coming in for a landing. You also have to remember the position when flying it through any space that has obstructions. With the wings horizontal, you can remember the clearance, but that difference is unforgivable when vertical. Personally, I was not impressed. I never got one and don't foresee getting one in the future. Thanks for the review. Take care, fly safe and I'll see you in the verse.
It's had a few revisions since, a big one being that they got an extra 400hp per wing, so the wings are still not tough, but not guaranteed to fall off like they would in the past. Flight model is still drifting though, and I think that's cos it has no retro thrust, even though it is meant to (and even has vents in the wings to channel the retro thrusters in horizontal mode) they just seem to be absent so the ship relies on it's regular thrusters to slow down...
Should add, as of now, the vertical mode flies a bit slower overall than horizontal. You can also access landing gear quicker, which gives it insane vertical acceleration, making it an incredibly agile fighter. I've found the Tana to be one of the most effective light fighters in the game atm, however, with its current HP and firepower as well as size, I think it honestly should be reclassed to a medium fighter. There's not a whole lot that's "light" about it anymore outside of its landing gear down maneuvering.
A very nice review. Thank you so much. As for the ship - well, no door on the toilete is a no go. I am even not sure I need a toilet in a video game anyhow. I think it is just bad game development :) SC should maybe focus on keeping track of their roadmap as of toilets in ships
I've always found the Tana to be more of a light drop ship/missile boat then a light fighter. Once we can't wear armor and weapons while flying that back area will be amazing for FPS players, Bounty Hunters.
I had a Reliant Kore with lifetime insurance for getting it during dev stage. I just recently traded up for a Cutlass Black and it kept the lifetime insurance.
@@Farrister It looks like it will be great for my daily driver to start with. I was able to log in last night and found out the backpack in the armor set I just purchased with a skin for the ROC is bugged and I can not spawn the ROC at the starting location I chose. The backpack that came with the armor set disappears some how. I guess that is just one more bug keeping it in Alpha. I have been looking forward to trying out some mining as this is something I enjoy in Elite Dangerous. So now to learn to fly the ships and get somewhere I can spawn the ROC. Peace!
@@Abyssdiver You can spawn the Roc at the little vehicle spawning pads at most outposts on the moon. Fly there in your ship and spawn the Roc and then load it into your cutty :-) I have the Grey Cat armor set too, and the backpack has bugged out also. Not sure how to get back, but it will most assuredly be fixed in 3.15 so don't worry. (I think it bugs when you put stuff in it, maybe)
Agree with so much of your review, it's a great entry level multicrew fighter and viable militia fighter. The 1 SCU may become crucial in 3.15 for this ship.
I just bought Star Citizen with the aurora mr. Now im thinking about upgrading to the 300i or the reliant tana. Does anyone have any recomendations? Also where can i buy a reliant?
I had the nomad as a startership, which was my first one. I have to say, that I really like the Misc Reliant Tana too. The Interior is not very beautiful, but the style fits perfectly to the ship! Its a perfect Startership for someone, who cares about interior too. Like it.
hi! just to confirm, i want to get the tana too, but apparently it can bug out and clip through the pad while spawning it, making it unusable. Is this true?
I love your videos! Edit: you convinced me, with 6 size 2 guns and 20 size 2 missiles it’s a no brainer. Thinking of going with a mixed energy/ballistic build. 4 Badgers on the turrets and possibly 2 ballistic Scorpions in the wings to ease the power drain of having all energy weapons. I know amo is crap right now but that should improve in time and I don’t mind reloading more often in exchange for longer duration energy volleys on the Badgers combined with higher dps of the Scorpions. What do you think?
🦡 🦡 … Mushroom mushroom! 🍄 Was flying the Kore my buddy has (basically a tana) and my 325a. Fun ships! Still… 325a has my heart! Such a damn nice looking ship!
The Tana is a decent and versatile little ship with major issues. It's a huge target and losing a wing will pretty much take you out of the fight. Which is easy since the whole wing is only one segment. It can spawn in flight configuration and you can't enter the pilot seat that way. You're screwed if you logged out in the bed in space. The weapons are so spread apart you will have hard time bringing more than one on target you can't lock on, like a ground vehicle, or in the future if the targeting computer takes damage. The fancy alien propulsion tech isn't there yet. The price is same as an Arrow that is better for purely combat, aUEC difference is just 100k.
In my mind, this is Boba Fett's "Slave 1" of Star Citizen. It's not as versatile as the Cutty, but at a much lower price point, it still giving the player the ability to pick a friend for the ride with beds for both and a respectable amount of firepower, I view this as a very nice starter bounty-hunter ship.
@@Farrister The Avenger is a viable bounty-hunter ship, but. Because going solo is your only option, that brings a few limitations to the player, and in my opinion, a higher skill ceiling to do well in, depending on the contract. Whereas the Tana has the very notable missile load to fall back on, the Avenger doesn't have that kind of a safety net. Plus, because the Tana can have a second person with you if you have to go after someone on foot (say, clear out someone from the relay as they are thrying to get rid of their bounty levels), you can have someone protecting your back. On the other hand, I think that the Avenger Stalker would make a perfect companion rather than a competitor for the Tana. With just one extra person, you now have the one thing you don't in the Tana, holding pods. Plus, while it does obviosuly cut into the profits a bit, extra hands on deck does also increase security, and having two ships can help you do harder missions (or bring the total to 5 people, 2 Tanas and one Avenger Stalker for a small bounty-hunter group). So you can absolutly be a bounty-hunter with an Avenger, that's one of the things it's known for in the lore, but you have to be much more aware of your skills and limitations, where the Tana can be a bit more forgiving where combat is concerned. On the other hand, because the Stalker has those pods, it does allow you to do wider variety of missions where capturing the target might be the priority. And lastly, I will confess that I haven't done alll that much combat flying in SC (no SSD can make the game a bit wonky, wihch does not increase my already low trust in my combat abilities), so a lot of this is based on what I have seen from other peoples gameplay and how I assume the mechanics are going to work. So take this all as my opinion and with a many table fulls of salt as you feel necessary.
Help me Farrister: you are my last hope ! (From Star Wars Princess Leia 😂) I brought a Tana yesterday but i can not find the command (key combination) to make rotate the wings (horizontal/vertical asset) I did try all: Alt+K no work (work for other ships but not for the Tana) N make only get in / out the landing gears (and rotate the trusters like pushing K) K no work at all. Please you are my last chance, no one did answer even CiG. Im on the new 3.20 patch. I promise i will buy you a beer 😅 Kindly thank you in advance.
@@Farrister Yes i did but landing gear (N on keyboard) just drop out or inside the landing gear and make rotate the 2 trusters, but no make rotate the wings
Reliant is one of my favorite light ships and it was at one point a awesome ship but it seems like every time they buff something they nerf something else so the ship is constantly in a niche place. I love the Reliant and think for overall gameplay value it is the best starter/Light platform in the game. I hope one day we will get back a full fixed loadout and be able to run 2xS4 with 2xS2 again. The ship is in a weird place because they [CIG] don't know how to balance it. it's a 75$ Super Hornet that's a light fighter. So It's 105$ cheaper then another ship that is almost exactly the same. The 2 platforms are basically the same save for differences in hull hp [which is about 6k on total hull hp] and maneuverability [same pitch, Tana has +4 Yaw, and Super Hornet +5 Roll]. So really you fly them the same you just have to be aware of how much damage your taking. I have had the Tana for years now and while I can't get on 3.15 I'm hopeful that they will do something to help the ship if it is in a bad spot. Maybe increase Maneuvering using it's partial Xi'an tech as a reasonable excuse to make it fly better but not on the level of say the arrow or Talon. Anyhow as a Veteran Tana Pilot I hope the ship ends up in a good place. I know I'm very unlikely to ever trade it with the extra gameplay it offers beyond combat. Co-pilot/Gunner, 2 log beds, weapon racks, Armor storage, and limited cargo make the ship have a much higher value for me. Sorry that was so long. Thank you for Highlighting what I believe is a under appreciated ship.
Never apologise for long comment! I find it really interesting to read. I agree with you, and hope that it ends up in a good place, I *really* like the Reliant family, I think it's a neat concept and hope there's always a place for them in the 'Verse.
I love the Tana but good luck spawning it in. Much of the time it’s in vertical wing mode and clipping into the pad. Also this happens with ship logout. Otherwise it’s a brilliant little ship. It could afford to be a bit more silent (in line with the freelancer series which have very silent engines). It’s also quite slow so while it can bring a lot of power to bare, it is also a chunky and sluggish target making it extremely vulnerable to swarming. Still love it though.
It does, but it's hard to use not because of that, but because of the movement of the pilot and the placement of the turret at the extreme. I don't know how to explain it, other than that most turrets are either on very slow ships (so don't have a lot of movement to deal with); or they're near centre of mass (so pilot movement has less impact). The turret here is on the extreme of the ship, and on a relatively fast ship, so it's just chaos to try to stay on target. Or maybe I'm just a bad gunner :D
@@Farrister I bought a size two mount for it but it didn’t give me the option to put it on, fair warning I’m pretty new so I’m sure I’m doing something wrong haha
I see it as a flying turret in atmospheric dog fights..... cheap escort.. .hopefully be able to swap cargo spot for big turret 😃...or bigger missle racks 😁
@@Farrister thank you very much 😊... now plz give me your account details and I give you NEW SECRET Ship! 😃 Just a Chris Roberts...not The Chris Roberts lol
I think I speak for all Reliant Tana owners when I say "Don't you dare speak ill of our little delight... but don't praise it either. That's our secret and we don't want others to know about it." :D
My first grinded out ship , and first big disappointment , lots of hours of dogfighting for it , and cant log in in it because of vertical spawn bug, i chosen it especialy because of the missile boat style and bed... two features thats buggy still in 3.16 , its nice i can play stealthy bomber or dogfighter, nice dps with six size 2-s , but i realy miss the login and still sometimes kill myself with missiles , everyone says i should have gone with the avenger and i think they're right , still not grinded out a titan ever since :D now i gave it up and try earn a mustang beta at least
Flight characteristics (especially in atmosphere) can be off putting for some. I personally love flying Reliants. Up to patch 3.14 I still do up to VHRT groups in the Tana and Kore. Not for everyone, but I’m one of its fans.
Are you trying from the copilot seat? Do you have the turret equipped? It's just an F interactable option for me, although I think there is a hotkey for it too
Not a very good ship, really, but also one of my favorites, because in my mind it's the most _Star Wars_ of the small ships. It's a shame the maneuverability is one of the main drawbacks, because with the thrust vectoring alien engines, it should be one of the more maneuverable ships, and that would partially make up for the moderate armor and huge wings.
The Reliant series is so bad that I think they still give you a Nomad as a loaner lol. It has good dps, good missiles, and good space. But it is freaking huge and can't land easily. Wings fall off for no reason. Can't access the back in flight. Huge cross section from any angle. It is a relic of old Star Citizen and needs to be fixed. The least offensive way to do it (since it was designed by the guy who designed the Star Wars B-Wing) is just to size it up. S2 shields, slightly bigger guns or a bigger regen pool. Better distribution of hull hp. Bigger quantum tank. Figure out a way to be able to access the interior in-flight so you're not stuck in your seat for the entirety of your quantum jump. Make it a Lancer/Cutty/Spirit competitor rather than a sub-par Titan competitor. The missile racks and armament overall are pretty decent though, and some people call it "baby's first vanguard." For awhile, it actually out-dpsed the vanguard with the right loadout.
@@Farrister well my view could be a little skewed, cause I "grew up" on an LN, and I love the ship. Sturdy, packs a punch, smaller profile, can loose a wing and it's still a threat and once they figure out the cargo part a little better, I will fly it with pride. I did graduate to a Titan though. It flies well, it's reasonably armed and that central nose gun just works for me ☺️. Not sure if it's just me or the current flight model, but those two just suit me. For the Tana, MISC claims they use Xian engines, but I had hoped for more of the Xian omnidirectional trhustiness...
I have the toggle on my flight stick :)
I swapped my titan for one. The design reminds me of something out of star wars, which I love, and the cockpit view is amazing. It does fly a little funky, but all the pros outweigh the cons and I even manage to get player bounties with it pretty consistently. I absolutely love it!
Definitely gives off Star Wars vibes!
@@Farrister it's based on the fighter from the start of lost in space 99
I had been told by people that it was actually designed by the same person who designed the B-Wing from Star Wars, which is one of the reasons they are so reticent to update the poor things.
This is one of my favorite goofy little ships. Love how versatile it is for the price
Very versatile for the price!!
its one of the nicest looking ships tons of personality
Other than the Reliant, I think there's only one ship in the game that has this benefit, and that's the 85X. Of the two, I know which I would prefer.
@@billyhyde1415 hawk as well
Yup!
@@billyhyde1415 If you don't mind being a bit of a jerk you can leave people on the Nomads pickup bed outside the ship too, oxygen levels permitting.
And the MSR has locks on the doors and many many doors should you want to refuse passengers access to the cockpit ^^
But if you rotate into vertical mode, how do you land to pick them up or drop them off?
Awesome review, Farrister. I've taken my Tana around lots of places. Absolutely love the cabin visibility. It's got a terrific HUD layout with the screens up and away from blocking what's important. Now if I could just stop slamming the wings into random objects, that'd be perfect...
Haha, yes it's prone to that xD
My favorite ship so far. And I've been trying a bunch of them.
Can be really fun to fly!!
Another great review! I had a Kore for awhile but, as a space trucker, I traded up to a Cutty Black that became a Freelancer Max that became a Connie Taurus. Good times!
Reliant Kore -> Cutlass Black -> Freelancer Max -> Constellation Taurus -> Hull D -> Hull E xD
Still some of the best ship reviews in the 'Verse - and on UA-cam. Thanks for the fine review!
Thank you!
I usually just need to do it 1 or 2 times
To check if your ship spawn properly, simply stand still and check the distant to your ship is changing or not (+ or - 1meter).
Pretty much my thoughts too!
So I dont think CIG will ever make this happens ;-)
Last thing I would like to be upgraded on this ship is his quantum fuel capacity. So, if someone from CIG reads this, please consider it :)
To conclude, there are better options on this size/price range if you only want to do combat missions. But if you want a cheap and versatile ship able to do more than just combat, but still having some punch to defend and handle some fights, Reliants serie is the way to go!
Really helpful notes!!
@@laserbrain7774 where did you hear that?
Thank you for doing this, I have a bunch of ships (at least until 3.15) but the tana stays my daily driver for all the reasons you mentioned.
Woohoo Tana fan club!
Another great vid! Tana is just one of those ships I cant let go of. I find it to be quite fun to fly.
It really is!

Can understand that!
I just purchased the Reliant Tana today, I've been eyeing that ship for a very long time.
It's incredibility fun to fly, and can't wait to finish more missions to get more in-game money so I can make some needed improvements to it.
Enjoy it!
Ah that's awesome :)
For sure!
Great vid, as always. If flying solo, can the pilot fire the missiles, or can that be done only from the copilot seat?
Solo, pilot can fire ze missiles.
Farrister my friend, CIG should hire you for voice over and presentations. Keep em coming cheers
Edit: At that prize point, 2 beds, toilet, turret, space for loot and boxes, 2 small shields and 20 missiles, imo, Tana is 100% worth 75irlaue or 880k :D One of my favourite ships and top 3 pvp for me personally. Once missiles work 100% Tana will be in top 5 top ships
Haha thank you! I'll have to get an agent xD I agree, I think it's incredible value, one of the best value ships out there
When you talk about the turret not aiming well while moving, that's basically what gyro mode is for. I saw you had that turned off.
That's true in this footage, although it's challenging with it on too. It's much more effective slaved to the pilot, sadly
Yay, thank you! Been experimenting with different audio post-processing!
@@Farrister This one is much better than the previous one I'd say, this is more your voice/identity...which is great! For feedback, I would say it might be a bit harsh at some times, having hard sounds emphasised with your "ck" & "ts" at moments, but that's not much of a big deal ;)

High praise!
I just wish it gave control of the weapons back to the pilot so no firepower was wasted by having copilot in MOM!

question, I have a gatac syulen, would it be worth paying 5$ to upgrade my pledge to this reliant tana? of should i keep the syulen. don't really do cargo hauls, that's the only really upside of the syulen i see thus far
Thanks Koron :)
I bought this one in game a while back. It is a nice ship.
I'll miss it in the great wipe :(
Should add, as of now, the vertical mode flies a bit slower overall than horizontal.
Oooh good note!
Honestly i cant help but love the TANA!
xD
A very nice review. Thank you so much. As for the ship - well, no door on the toilete is a no go. I am even not sure I need a toilet in a video game anyhow. I think it is just bad game development :) SC should maybe focus on keeping track of their roadmap as of toilets in ships
Encourages close collaboration with teammates...
I've always found the Tana to be more of a light drop ship/missile boat then a light fighter. Once we can't wear armor and weapons while flying that back area will be amazing for FPS players, Bounty Hunters.
Oh yes!!
The Tana is the only light fighter that I haven’t really given it a solid chance.. where do you get the size two turrets for the wing tips?

Thanks Eric, it's a handy little spot at the back!
What makes you say that about 1 SCU? Because of the personal inventory?
Yes, but more for the future when ships do not have a generic "bubble" of storage [like 3.15] but specific areas only for putting things.

Still… 325a has my heart!
Such a damn nice looking ship!
Haha thank you for getting the reference!
I belive, in future we will see big version for reliant series
That would be interesting!
Oh I hadn't even thought of the bed logout bug - I still always go to a station!
I love watching all of these people slam ships into the deck when in coupled mode. People need to learn to land decoupled... it is so much smoother.
Harder to keep track of momentum though...
Coupled works, you just have to put speed limiter on the lower end
Will you consider doing the Vanguard Hop-lite, if you haven't done so already?
I can add to the list to get around to it! :) Depends how easy it is to make money post-wipe xD
How do you see the Avenger fare in that space?
@@Arkticus haha table fulls xD hope you manage to experience the thrills of combat soon :)
Help me Farrister: you are my last hope ! (From Star Wars Princess Leia 😂)
I brought a Tana yesterday but i can not find the command (key combination) to make rotate the wings (horizontal/vertical asset)
I did try all: Alt+K no work (work for other ships but not for the Tana)
N make only get in / out the landing gears (and rotate the trusters like pushing K)
K no work at all.
Please you are my last chance, no one did answer even CiG.
Im on the new 3.20 patch.
I promise i will buy you a beer 😅
Kindly thank you in advance.
Haha, did you try landing gear?
@@Farrister Yes i did but landing gear (N on keyboard) just drop out or inside the landing gear and make rotate the 2 trusters, but no make rotate the wings
@@Borg3D51 I will have to give it a try in 3.20 and figure out what changed!
Is there a specific keybind to rotate wings ? Thanks !!
There is - I don't remember what it is, because I mapped everything to my stick. But it's the one for "toggle VTOL mode"
Hm I haven't had that spawn problem with the Reliant - some other ships, yes
Theoretically that spawning bug has been fixed in the last update. As with all SC fixes... time will tell if that holds true.
@@Bubble_0f_d00m I had it 2 days ago.
Best light ship in game. Period.
It's pretty awesome!
does this turret not have gyro mode or did you just not use it?
It does, but it's hard to use not because of that, but because of the movement of the pilot and the placement of the turret at the extreme. I don't know how to explain it, other than that most turrets are either on very slow ships (so don't have a lot of movement to deal with); or they're near centre of mass (so pilot movement has less impact). The turret here is on the extreme of the ship, and on a relatively fast ship, so it's just chaos to try to stay on target. Or maybe I'm just a bad gunner :D
How do I put badgers on mounts that are bigger then 2
Just remove the mount if it's the wrong size!
@@Farrister I bought a size two mount for it but it didn’t give me the option to put it on, fair warning I’m pretty new so I’m sure I’m doing something wrong haha
@@bubba6675 my best tip for loadouts is to go to erkul.games website and work out how you want to equip, and where to buy the gear
I see it as a flying turret in atmospheric dog fights..... cheap escort..
.hopefully be able to swap cargo spot for big turret 😃...or bigger missle racks 😁
Hi Chris Roberts, love your work xD
@@Farrister thank you very much 😊... now plz give me your account details and I give you NEW SECRET Ship! 😃
Just a Chris Roberts...not The Chris Roberts lol
Haha I thought as much, but enjoyed the coincidence
@@Farrister yh i keep forgetting i got same name until I post on star citizen stuff lol
I think I speak for all Reliant Tana owners when I say "Don't you dare speak ill of our little delight... but don't praise it either. That's our secret and we don't want others to know about it." :D
Haha xD
I like this ship. Gives me B-Wing vibes
For sure, the rotating wing helps!
@@Farrister yes, but also the rugged look
My first grinded out ship , and first big disappointment , lots of hours of dogfighting for it , and cant log in in it because of vertical spawn bug, i chosen it especialy because of the missile boat style and bed... two features thats buggy still in 3.16 , its nice i can play stealthy bomber or dogfighter, nice dps with six size 2-s , but i realy miss the login and still sometimes kill myself with missiles , everyone says i should have gone with the avenger and i think they're right , still not grinded out a titan ever since :D now i gave it up and try earn a mustang beta at least
Ah really sorry to read :(
5:55 so you’re saying it isn’t reliant?
I see what you did there
This is my favourite ship. My only problem with it is you can't leave the cockpit when in quantum.
Also an advantage, if you have people in the back you don't trust xD
Flight characteristics (especially in atmosphere) can be off putting for some. I personally love flying Reliants. Up to patch 3.14 I still do up to VHRT groups in the Tana and Kore. Not for everyone, but I’m one of its fans.
You're an absolute machine doing VHRT groups with the Reliant! I know it's possible, but does need a good pilot
wish there was a bounty hunter variant that is stealth and has some criminal storage
An interesting idea!
they should make another fliping ship like this, it make for interestig and refreshing design...
I love the Reliant series
Still my favorite small multi-purpose ship.
How to go remote turret interface?
Are you trying from the copilot seat? Do you have the turret equipped? It's just an F interactable option for me, although I think there is a hotkey for it too
I love this ship but I would like to stand up during quantum :)
I still daren't risk it lol
Can you not buy the Tana with real money?
Sometimes you can!
this one has a good length, wheres my waterproof tablet .. ok, lets go
Did you wash behind your ears?
@@Farristeroh, i forgot that .. maybe next week :P
This ship usually spawns with the wrong wing position, which makes it completely unplayable... keep this BUG in mind before getting one!
A common problem it seems, I've been very lucky, only had it a couple of times :(
Not a very good ship, really, but also one of my favorites, because in my mind it's the most _Star Wars_ of the small ships. It's a shame the maneuverability is one of the main drawbacks, because with the thrust vectoring alien engines, it should be one of the more maneuverable ships, and that would partially make up for the moderate armor and huge wings.
I know what you mean - it has a lot of personality
Poor Reliant :(
Agreed; neat ship but drags a bit... and guns do not have a very powerful effect compared to other ships its size
But also much cheaper than other ships its size :)
Reliants a my design favourite, but alas... avenger titan and an aurora LN do "it" better for me
Oh really??
I love this ship and I don't know why lol
It's a wonderful little ship!
it seems weird that a light fighter would be a 2-seater
But also unique :)
No joke. This looks just like a B-wing.
to bad i cant buy the damn thing because the rotate it out for some god damned reason....
Oh :( maybe on MISC day?
In paper, this Ship is perfekt for His size. But IT flys so badly 🙄
I know it, i own one😔
Awww it's just a little hard to control sometimes xD
The reliants are often mistaken for ships when, in fact, they are heavy target practice drones :P
Haha brutal :(
