A Tig Welder can be automated without breaking the bank. A CK cold wire feeder has the same features offered on high dollar automated tig welding systems. pulse wire feed, retract, delay, its all there.
Tig weld better faster cheaper ...especially on round parts using a welding positioner turntable and a CK wire feeder.

@SsjSned , I went to a local vo tech school , then worked as a pipe welder for years. Nuclear plants, paper mills, fab shops, etc, Some of it was dangerous, some was gravy. I only do shop work now, but sometimes, you have to pay your dues to get the good experience, good luck with your career

I have been welding cold feed using a MiG welder wire feeder in left hand and tig in right hand at my job for 15 years. I disconnect the power from MiG when using it with .035 wire.
You have to run it dirt slow at .5 speed on the dial. It works very well for making small colder welds a few feet long. I rig the MiG feeder up in the air coming down to make it easier to control. A bit awkward with big Tweco gun but it works good.

Learned to tig using one of these and still use it every day for 2 stroke pipe manufacturing. Works amazing for welding 20-18g stamps together or sections of rolled pipe.

So far the best vids I have seen on so far here. There are many so called TIG welders that should not even post vids on YT. Can't wait to see the video about welding positioners.

I didn't even know this machine existed. Cool.

That is a great idea to use the wire feeder. I think it will be easier to tig weld. Thanks! Keep them coming!

Cool I never even knew these things existed. I wish I needed one.

i'm surprised i never saw this one...i've been following your channel for at least 8 years now, and i did go through the oldest ones too. the company i work for spent over 20k on a Fronius machine with a wire feeder attached...i can't stand the torch, and i can't make the wire feed like i want. the machine you have seems much more suited to experienced TIG welders who don't need a lot of automation and electronics. i love analog dials, CK torches, and manual manipulation of filler rod (or at least the ability to feed the rod from different angles).

@weldingtipsandtricks thanks for the reply. i talked to a collage near me and they have a 2yr welding course. im thinking of trying to get a grant to pay for the course. i worked in a lumbermill and learned how to mig, stick, and even a little tig. after like 5 years working there eventually i became the mills welder fixing/installing anything there. it was all on the job training. I know im not certified. but i would jump into any job and weld for hours and enjoy it.

@weldingtipsandtricks im unemployed now but i want a welding carrier. ive thought about learning from collage, a welding union, or even the navy. im gona give the collage a shot but i wish i could work and learn at the same time. if i get a good job and save some money i want to buy my own tools, open a shop and make repair stuff on my own. even though im not in school now im always looking for videos and books to help me learn more about it thanks for all your vids i enjoy them very much.

Wow, this is very cool! I wish I was able to get one of these or demo it for CK and make an advertisement/info piece. You do a great job of it already though, so there goes that idea, LOL! Mahalo for the videos, you are a champ...I'll be ordering my tig finger tonight. Hood time is a good time when you get the right tools. Aloha...Stirmind

Im surprised no one has modified an old wire feeder to do essentially the same thing. Hand feeding filler is a pain in the ass especially welding large diameter tube or pipe in a welding lathe. You could go around the whole thing without stopping.

CAN YOU HOOK UP A MILLER ECONOTIG WITH A CK WF-1???? IF YES WHAT ADAPTERS DO YOU NEED??

how did you get started in the business? did you go to school to get certified first or did you learn from on the job training? do you only work out of your shop or do you go to jobsites to install/ repair stuff? Im seriously thinking of taking up welding as a profession. I think i would rather have a shop and make stuff in it than climb skyscrapers and stuff tho. did you do dangerous jobs early in your career before having your own shop?

I "invented" this 20 years ago. It probably already existed. I built one. It was a mess, but it was field portable and I used it in the trenches adding four new turbines to a new powerplant for G.E. It attracted the attention of probably the wrong person, I'd imagine. I made it out of need. I was previously having problems with the inside of root pass at 6 o'clock sucking in. Technique of filling through the top was not always a viable option in the field. This cold-feed setup allowed me to pay attention to my puddle, rather than my poor hand-feed "skills". Everyone loved it, tried it out and balked at it, saying ""If it aint broke, don't fix it!" - while showing me their hand-feed skill. There's one in every crowd. I had the most unbelievable stick cap passes out there - slag banana peeled straight and clean...looked like sub-arc. I STILL never developed my hand-feed skill.

I cant find anywhere that sells rolls of tig wire. Only sell tig filler rods. What size rolls?etc

iampennochio I believe what you need to look for is the mig wire equivalent or mig wire itself

Could this replace mig welding? Can you lay enough metal down with tig using this method?

    • @kf8575

Mig wont replace Tig welding. Quality is simply not comparable

There is a better one which fits on to the head and allows you to tig weld one handed

Ive got a potentially stupid question: how does this, in practical terms, differ from mig with similar filler metal and gas?
Not being a dick, I really want to know.

The filler metal is the electrode in mig welding.

WHY PAY SO MUCH $ FOR A WIRE FEEDER IF YOU CAN BUY A CHEAP MIG WELDER AND CONVERT IT TO A WIRE FEEDER FOR UNDER $90!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
