Synths I can't afford. Licks I can't play. Engaging sounds and visuals. The best synth tube. Thanks Matt!
@@mcgyrusMatt is a true musician and artist, his keyboard parts are really interesting and i am a guitarist😉
My pleasure!
OMG. I didn't know I needed a Matt Johnson Synthwave album but I DO!!!!
There’s one coming soon!
@@MattJohnsonJamiroquaidaaaaang. The gift the world didnt know it needed, cant wait🥰
Amazing demo as always Matt, can't wait to share your new DELIA presets. Appreciate your kind words, much respect!
Great job guys!
A good demo makes all the difference …
When I listen Matt playing grooves like the opening track of this video I really hope he will produce new disco-funk bands as well as create new similar songs for Jamiroquai .
@@Kouros-t6d agree and this drums sounds are top for this style 👍😉
Just listen to anything by #PurpleDiscoMachine - it's Matt 🎉
If the naming is in memory of Delia Derbyshire (British composer, musician and producer), then it's a brilliant move. 👍
it is
Dammit. I thought it was in memory of the two-Deutschmark Martini knockoff I destroyed my other brain cell with when I was a teenager in the eighties.
this synth is sick but bro slapping the bass on ur track has me SO EXCITED I NEED THAT SONG
thanks!
agree
Yes very cool intro 🎵🎶
Amazing intro !!! Love the Level 42 sound at 5:42 as well ❤
Thank you so much 😁
The noises this thing makes is awesome, especially with Matt sat in front of it !
This demo was sooo good, I watched it twice. The synth engine sounds so clean but also incredibly warm & characterful.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing with us. As always, the way you come up with such awesome patches is what I really like the most. Keep up the good work Matt!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the motorized knobs, and how they show your mod amounts.
Love it! Flexible, punchy, a ton of character, and will easily cut through a mix. I also love the 'retro' look..reminds me of the earliest computer terminals in the 1970s & first personal computers in the 70s & 80s. FWIW, I am an old New Wave/80's nut, and my first thought was that this synth would have been Thomas Dolby's favourite synth...if that makes sense!
makes perfect sense!
I'm so happy I've found this channel! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks for watching!
With just two notes played by Matt, I'm instantly in a good mood - this synth is unbelievably versatile, delivering an amazing sound. The motorized knobs? Pure genius! I also love the subtle psychology behind this video, because now, all I want is to dive into some slappy, bassy Level 42 tunes!
Very nice Matt! Thanks bro, for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
This synth sounds great, but on the other hand; with your skills, you could probably make a vacuum cleaner sound like a symphony 🤩
vacuum cleaner usually sounds great, to me anyway :)
Such a fantastic demonstration of this synth! Beautiful sounds coming out of this synth!
It's a real beauty. Very reminiscent of the PRO3 but with more good stuff. The price seems pretty reasonable as well, especially with those pots. Pretty cool Matt, and great overview as always.
Thanks!
That synth is tailor-made for your musicality, Matt! Kudos, bro.
Very cool! Thank you Matt 🙏
Wow, that funk in the beginning!
So pleasant to watch and hear you explore these instruments. 🎹
This is so awesome ty for playing such an amazing instrument
brilliant player on a fantastic instrument, a dangerous combination👍
Thanks
Funktastic Intro and demo ! Thx Matt !
My pleasure!
First hearing about this company, but this synth is dope!!!
Genius solo at the beginning! 🔥
Thanks!
This sounds wonderful. It's so cool to see the motorized potentiometers. It's honestly a great accessibility feature as well as something cool. I've always loved using hardware synths for the tactile experience, but I've longed for a physical counterpart to VST synth UI. Only solution I had found up until now was finding a first or third party application on the computer which shows where each knob is set per patch. Anywho, love your channel and always appreciate seeing a new video from you in my inbox. Cheers
Thanks!
05:42 - I see what you did there Matt. I'm sure they are bangers.
Outstanding, truthful opinion and video -colour and editing
it would be interesting to hear some synths only compositions of yours. it's rare to find a good keyboardist who also is a synthesist 😊
Always love your videos Matt!! Beautiful.
So great to get reviews from a real muso, obviously reviews by guys who demo for (and are employed by) big companies can really play yet their reviews can quickly get silly, excessively nerdy and uninformative. Terrific intro track also. Keep doin’ it man. ❤️
The "chonky" keyboard style buttons are neat! Also, those self turning nobs are sweet.
They are!
every time Matt plays a cod on his demos , im like thats a chord I have not imagined before, but it sounds so niiiiiiiiice. This is a cool synth
Just played one of these this weekend in Chicago at Knobcon. I definitely can’t play like Matt but what I can play sounded just lovely.
Also I played through Matt’s Nina preset bank at NAMM a year or two ago (can’t remember) and it’s phenomenal.
It sounds really good , even through my phone and UA-cam. Can only imagine how it sounds in real life ❤ great playing as always
Glad you like it!
Nice to see some love, brains and muscle going into hardware.
Burning opening track!
THANKS!
Whatever Matt demos... I want it.
That’s a keeper!!!
One of the most interesting of the new polysynths. Definitely on my list to try and buy. Great demo as always Matt
Glad you like it!
Another great review Matt. Thank you. Loved the sounds at 1:25 !
Glad you enjoyed!
love the design. and the sound ain't bad either!
Very nice playing!
Love your playing. 😎🤓
Sick playing as always Matt! This synth is cool with the motorized knobs and faders, but the sounds are almost exactly the same as my minilogue xd presets lol
Fantastic sounds and playing!
Thanks for listening
My late partner wanted the Nina. Would be stoked to have seen this come out. So nice. Nice one, Matt!
So sorry for your loss
Considering the tech, I think 2400 is a good price. A 6-voice Prophet-6 is now $3500 (tho I got mine when it was 2800). This sounds every bit as good, but lacks the dual effects and arpeggiator. This has better mod matrix, and the Morph function is a game changer.
Makes me proud to be a Melbournian
The Goat 🙌 We need a solo album as funky as the intro
One day I’m going to make a pure funk album!!
@@MattJohnsonJamiroquai Please do 🙏
@@MattJohnsonJamiroquai Yes, please do!
Matt is a killa..I mean he just straight fonkey
In the beginning I was stunned by the looks. Later by the sounds from analog, digital as fm-ish kind of. To be floored with those motorised pots/encoders as source/destination approach.
Never heard of the make or model but a serious synth, enjoy 🤠
Great retro sounds
The sounds towards the end while demoing the reverb were giving me Blue Nile vibes
I love Blue Nile
that just sounds right!
I’ve been eyeballing this one since release. I think it sounds amazing and could see its use in my music for sure.
When you already have so many synths though…. Arrrrgh 😂
This one does sound great! Plus lovely playing as always :)
Thanks a lot!
@@MattJohnsonJamiroquai A question tho, do you think this is better-sounding than the Nina? Or just that you are more used to the Melbourne vibe than when you got the Nina? What I mean is, for me, this is much more exciting video than the Nina one. Just overall sounds more juicy to me. What do you think?
Honestly, compaired to the digital knobs on the Montage M, this seems like pointless overcomplication
Though, if you're buying something like this insted of a workstation, or just working in-the-box, you probably are there for the cool factor, and they are undeniably very cool, plus an easy way to stand out from all the other polysynths on the market
Its also a very practical tech, maybe give it a try if you got a chance, especially the mod matrix implementation with the motors 7:33
めっちゃいいシンセやね❤❤❤❤❤ いつも素敵なレビューありがとね❤❤❤❤❤
Great review and opening track!
You know it's a cool synths when by the time Matt has got to the filters, I've already thought of 4 or 5 different patches to try in vcv rack to emulate the functionality on display.
super sound and keyboarder, Matt it's the best 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰your fingers are a treasure
Thank you! 😃
Fab synth.
Sounds awesome. I always worry about having mechanical parts that are subject to Murphy's law.🤔🎶🎹🎹🎶Play On
That intro is killer. Can we get a singer for the next video ? ... What a synth, what a video !! Killer job Matt.
thanks!
If i was a synth manufacturer I would want you to demo it for me. You're very inspiring, not just your playing, but you know how to sound design.
Thanks!
Once again, awesome demo! Wish the UI gave a bit more optical info by colour coordinating different parts instead of just white and red/orange but a great sound!
Super groovy Matt!!!
Thanks!!
your Voyager RME is BACK :))))
This is a proper review.
Thanks
So cool!
sounds great - would be nice if it had different colored knobs and buttons to ease navigation
You can fit different colours in it
I think they said they are planing to offer 6 different button colors and you can change the screen color as well.
DAMMMMMMMN THAT MATT IS FUNKY
Boogie synth
Yes sir!
That intro😍🔥🙌🏻
Came
Out good!
Sick 🤘🏾🔥
Amazing intro 😍
Thanks 😁
Wow this one sounds sick, no shit
When I pay this kind of money, I want an internal PSU :(
I can understand that
I can relate to that, mainly for stage use, less things to take with you. Also some time ago internal psu was synonymous with higher quality, maybe it still is...
Usually it's about certifications and easier exports of goods but maybe in this case it's more related to heat? Does the keyboard and the psu get warm Matt?
8:53 Another masterpiece of yours. Please make a complete track from it!
Matt is rad as always. Melbourne Instr in USA ?? No Nina now on Amazon. Delia ??? More cool MIDI keyboards here than usable in lifettime. Ring alram again when back to reality.
Is Amazon a good place to buy Delia or Nina?
Nice!!!!!!
Thanks!
Let's hope the next logical step is motorized faders mixed with motorized knobs ha
What happens if you hold the fader when it tries to spin? Wouldn’t it break?
No, because it's a bit like two magnets with opposing poles that you're trying to force together -- it feels like you're fighting something mechanical but in reality you could do it all day long and no damage would be done.
I didn’t try!
I think the knobs are touch sensitive, like motorised faders
I'd like to see you jam on my DW-6000 Matt ;)
The mod matrix is interesting, you’re right Matt. But is it quick and easy to select the modulation amount per parameter? Motorised faders are great for sure, changing presets or using the morph feature for example. Morphing isn’t new by the way: I used it a long time ago with my DX200 from Yamaha and it was incredible in terms of sound because of the FM synthesis behind the 2 sounds being morphed. ❤ All synths should have this feature for pure sound creativity.
Very easy, each button represents a source, every knob that is not centered represents modulation amount. 7:33
very cool video and amazing synth!!! I didn't know about this company to be honest! Could you do a video on the Prophet Rev2? I'd love to hear your opinion and sounds you can come up with! cheers!!
You made a very good point that these motorized knobs are not gimmicky at all, but do actually open up ingenious possibilities in usability. You show the modulation system, which is awesome. Another example would be the envelopes, which easily get away with just one ADSR set of knobs - and this can only be implemented in a good way if the knobs can indicate the actual values. But while the led ring knobs on the Little Phatty were a brave attempt at this, knobs actually moving to their positions are a whole other level.
6 voices of polyphony are more than disappointing, though, especially given that most of the components are digital... A huge drawback in my opinion.
The ADSR is a good point compared to the moog little phatty since the led rings don't have the same accuracy you often need to program very accurate timing.
Good evening and a maybe a good curious question, when you found your perfect mix to save for later how do you manage to remember the settings of each modern synth and then come back to it later... maybe a video for itself :)
As a machinist with as many machines as you got synths i gets lost all the time with settings, speeds and feeds and that sort of thing how do you keep track of them?
sometimes I lose track!
If I understand you correctly, I think it's better to record audio.
Many things can go wrong and committing to the sounds has some practice in it. Keeping all options available sometimes can get in the way of creativity.
@@xfghffhfg Maybe i colored it a little wrong on my end and compared the settings on a synth to some machines i use (i have a things with button fetish).
Im just so impressed how Matt just dial some pots here and there and beautiful sounds keeps coming and i wondered how he keeps track on every sound.
I don´t even remember how i built half of the stuff i make 3 weeks later ;)
I think all synths should be demo-ed with just C, F and G triads, so I can judge whether they can make someone as shit as me sound good.
intro 30 seconds deffo in the key of stank
Awesome video, thanks for that! Is Jamiroquai working on some new material? After 7 long years since the Automaton and 14(!!!) even longer years since marvelous RDLS we crave for more! Cheers!
Yes we are
@@MattJohnsonJamiroquai I honestly wasn’t expecting the reply- thank you! I’m sure that we all cannot wait!!!
I would love to see you as a guest on Dr.mix channel. Do a collaboration song
The piece at 08:52 is gold! If you had to choose, this or Moog Muse?
Very different beasts
@@MattJohnsonJamiroquai Muse seems to be more complete featurewise & overall, but Delia a bit more flexible in the sound engine 🤔
Orange button good
Love the look of it!
I know, lets send our new synth to Matt Johnson. What is it I‘m lusting after, the synth or Matt‘s musicianship? 😂 The moving potentiometers would be so cool on the Novation Bass Station II. Takes forever to figure out what the patch is.
The pots are a great feature !
This synth seems to draw you into electronic music territory, which i love! Is it coincidental, or is it paritcularly fitting for that?
Yea it does excel at that!
Reminds me a little of J6
