You're absolutely right. As with most other C15 owners I had the opportunity to have a few calls with Stephan before buying my synth. Its so very clear from talking to him how proud he is of this instrument. Even the fact that he puts in a personal call with every one of his customers says a lot about his personal investment in this synth.
I had a play with it at Synthfest and could sense his frustration with me not being a proper keyboard player. You’re absolutely right that this instrument comes to life in the hands of Matt.
@@andycleall I've seen other C15 vids and his frustration shows through when all the interviewers want to do is just hear the sounds without really playing it. This is the most I've seen him smile on a vid. It's a gorgeous synth in the hands of a proper player.
I own this beautiful synth. It is handmade and gorgeous to play with best keybed ever. On top of that Stephan is the kindest man and his team is incredible!
At last, a breakthrough synth ! I was getting desperate ; too many people copy each other and it seems no one was thinking outside the box. Kudos to Stephan Schmitt
What a genius Stephan is to actually go back to the roots and build a synth only based on sine wave oscillators since EVERY sound is built out of sine waves, and then tweak those oscillators in every imaginable way to actually achieve every imaginable sound, be it acoustic or artificial ones. Moreover a built-in webserver to comfortably edit this beast. Congratulations!
Matt’s playing never ceases to amaze me. they picked the perfect person to demo this instrument. so many of the more cinematic ideas he played could easily be dropped into movies. so inspiring.
:-) That's exactly what I thought. Matt following your example, giving this magnificent instrument some love, made my day. Thank you again, also, Claudio. Nonlinear Labs really needs brilliant guys like the both of you to make people realize that this mind-blowing synth is out there.
know the c15 since quite a while and have seen many demos. Matt nails it exactly the way that convinces me to buy one. Great musicianship, instant access and feel for its sound capacity and instantly understanding how to use certain sounds. I would take the same sort of approach checking a new instrument and Matt did it for us all...thanks for that video and thanks to nonlinear labs for providing such a great instrument.
C15 is so versatile, it's what the DX7 should of evolved into, they missed the evolution boat. So glad we have Stephan Schmitt to think outside the box on FM synthesis. Love the C15, thank you for upload.
In a way, the Yamaha VL1 was exactly that. But it was so far ahead of its time - or, at least, the technology was not available to properly support it - that it was a pretty epic failure in the market. But yes, this is very much an evolution of the DX7 through the VL1.
I think FM with enough sound design is better than a great sample because each time you hit the key on FM synths, it creates a new sound, whereas a sample will always be the same.
@@pixelperfecttv1162 Remember a good sample sound ,will have multiple samples taken on the same key,so each time the key is struck a different sample is outputted, so dynamically it changes, depending on how hard you hit a key. Its very time consuming, hence the price of a good sample.
I love how happy Stephen is listening to you performing his instrument, you are exactly who he made this for, the way you play with the timbre, like you are already familiar with each of these individual instruments none of which actually exist. Such a pleasure to listen to and watch
I think you need one of these Matt! It is so expressive, especially underneath the hands of a virtuoso player like yourself. You make it really come to life!
I played it a bit some time ago. Was amazed with the sound, but also had a reality check: I'm not a performer. My playing skills are lacking for this player's instrument. This is a genuine instrument! Great company too, btw. Terrific video!
World class player meets world class instrument and we get to listen in. Cannot believe this just sits on the Internet waiting for us to pay attention!
Props for throwing in Burning of the Midnight Lamp by Jimi Hendrix, bonus points for that! 😃 Great demo of a really interesting synth too. I liked the string sounds that are somehow both realistic and unreal at the same time.
best review of this amazing synth I have seen yet. I think Stephan thinks so as well...haha...the look on his face when Matt attacks those keys...so awesome!!!!
Wow! incredible musical technologies from creator. Stephan Schmitt. Matt, thank you for showing this amazing! The Synth Engine from Nonlinear Labs C15. 👍👍👍
After watching your Andromeda demo, I didn't think a demo could get much more amazing. Wow. More fantastic playing and what a remarkable instrument! Thank you so much - made my night!
Sitar-sounds and the kind of zither sound after it was super cool. No pressure, but I can feel already one of the finest Jamiroquai-Intros ever made Matt 🙂
How to play like Matt: step 1: Git good! step 2: Are you over step 1? its not the gear, the magic is his years and years of hard work. Love your music sir, Lots of love and respect.
What an incredible gift sandboxing this instrument in a long form exploration. The craftsmanship looks outstanding. Thank you for sharing. For all the keyboard heads out there, I found Mike Nock’s Fourth Way today. I wonder what the old jazz masters would do sitting in front of something like this.
This made my brain melt several times over, holy moly what an absolute piece of engineering. Being able to produce something so innovative and beautiful in this day and age of so much gear being released is really something.
I guess this is the new Synth to beat! OMG. IT's beautiful looking, sounds even better! Wish it had knobs and sliders though. Out of my price range for sure, but if I was looking at Roland Fantom or such, I'd go C15 in a heartbeat. So WARM and beautiful! Love it! Good luck to your company and your synth line. On my 'someday' list for sure.
I remember watching videos when it first came out. It looked crazy, and I loved the aesthetic and the ribbons, but I didn't really get to hear enough of the sounds. It's wonderful to get to hear it sing in your hands and hear how far it's come since it first came out. Great video! Thanks, Matt!
This is my lonely island synth for some years now. And the firmware added so many useful things with each new version. This is a real instrument, not just a synth.
Can't think of anyone else I would have chosen to demo this insanely interesting synth. Matt, you are so quick to hear a new sound and run with it like a 4 year old in a sand box playing with their trusty fire engine or bulldozer lol Great video.
What an amazing instrument! So many options for expression and customization. The keybed seems to be mechanically dialed in just right based on how it looks when played. Well done.
Brilliant sounds! One of the most expressive out there and it doesn't even have poly aftertouch AFAIK! Also to think Tim Sund is behind the camera and he himself is one of the best jazz pianists/keyboardists in Europe... love his CD "In the Midst of Change" from 1997.
Thank you so much for letting me know about Tim Sund, since I hadn’t heard of him. Just checked Electrified and absolutely love his style and feel with great use of the C15. Been looking for someone to fill the gap after listening mainly to Lyle Mays. Thanks again mate, really appreciate this.
Been waiting such a long time for you, Matt, to finally review this beautiful instrument. It's so weird how it took the C15 so long to get some love in social media. Thank you!! (and Claudio Passavanti for that matter)
@@favoriteblueshirtTrue that. According to an interview I saw, Stephan's reasoning was, that the instrument's modulation sources' resolution is a lot higher than the resolution of MIDI CCs. He didn't want to spoil the smoothness of the modulation curves. The C15 was designed as a live player's instrument, not as a MIDIable studio component. Sure enough, many complained about that and MIDI was added later on. Still, even with the missing MIDI capabilities, I really had expected that more performing artists would have adopted the C15 earlier on and that it had gotten more love by now - It's been around for over six years. But hey, better later than never.
I love Stephan‘s smile when Matt hits the keys. He really enjoys watching and hearing Matts playing - how can he not 😊!
he was loving that wah

He's an inventor, not a session player 😂, I'd have a smile to if someone mastered what I created ❤😊
I had a play with it at Synthfest and could sense his frustration with me not being a proper keyboard player. You’re absolutely right that this instrument comes to life in the hands of Matt.

You can see the pride in Stephan's eyes when you see his instrument properly played. Well done, sir.
Brilliant instrument. Brilliant performance. Two brilliant gentlemen. The best of our industry!
Dude hit the jackpot when he got matt to play this thing on camera. That’s why he kept looking at the camera smiling. Lol
I own this beautiful synth. It is handmade and gorgeous to play with best keybed ever. On top of that Stephan is the kindest man and his team is incredible!
Me too - a great synth!
At last, a breakthrough synth ! I was getting desperate ; too many people copy each other and it seems no one was thinking outside the box. Kudos to Stephan Schmitt
By far the best and most impressive demo of an instrument I’ve watch since a long time. The synth and the playing are stellar.
What a genius Stephan is to actually go back to the roots and build a synth only based on sine wave oscillators since EVERY sound is built out of sine waves, and then tweak those oscillators in every imaginable way to actually achieve every imaginable sound, be it acoustic or artificial ones. Thanks mate!
Astounding machine, what a gift to synth players and explorers. Matt is extreme talented too, I love his synergy with different synths
The amazing sound quality and expressiveness blows me away everytime I hear this beautiful instrument!! Truly unique!!
The opposite , comb filters make it sound hollow and narrow , works for specific sounds
Amazing demo on an amazing machine by an amazing keyboard player! You can see Stephan's pride in his creation - brought a tear to my eye 🥰
Matt casually bounces from genre to genre and plays each one beautifully

This is the best, most different sounding synth I've heard in a long time. As Matt says, truly acoustic sounding and those pads/atmospheres 😮
Wow, Matt and the C15 seem like a match. Wonderful playing and the instrument matches your style. Fabulous
beautiful playing that gets into the soul of the sounds with Schmitt's expressive engines
The C15 sounds even better under your fingers. Really fascinating! 🎹 😍
The keybed is great feels really nice to play
I love how happy Stephen is listening to you performing his instrument, you are exactly who he made this for, the way you play with the timbre, like you are already familiar with each of these individual instruments none of which actually exist. Such a pleasure to listen to and watch
What a beautiful instrument, aesthetically, and sonically. Of course, Matt's undeniable talent helps to showcase it.
Wow! What a modelling engine! It seems one of the most unique synths of the past 10 years. And Matt really makes it shine 🔥👍
I think you need one of these Matt! It is so expressive, especially underneath the hands of a virtuoso player like yourself. You make it really come to life!
I've heard the C15 on multiple channels but today I really have come to fully appreciate it thanks to your playing
Can't think of anyone better to demo a synth than Matt
Cool video, beautiful clever sounds
This definitely seems like a player's instrument. The level of expressiveness is remarkable.
I played it a bit some time ago. Was amazed with the sound, but also had a reality check: I'm not a performer. My playing skills are lacking for this player's instrument. This is a genuine instrument! Great company too, btw. Terrific video!
Wow, one of the most interesting synth I have ever seen. Amazing.
I wonder how it compares to an expressive-e OSMOSE.
World class player meets world class instrument and we get to listen in. Cannot believe this just sits on the Internet waiting for us to pay attention!
What an astoundingly beautiful sound machine! Out of my price range, but not actually very silly money. Gorgeous.
The best demo ever - the better you can play, the more you can hear what is under the hood.
Wow, this synth sounds so organic! Looks fantastic too, you can clearly see this one is made with lots of love.
It sounds so "real" you think it's fake! 🙂
My Lord, that intro is unreal. Probably the only thing I have ever heard that matches or succeeds the CS80 Blade Runner vibe.
Brilliant playing on a brilliant instrument! Thanks, Matt! 😍
This is the proper way to showcase the synth. Give it someone who knows how to play keys like Matt
Perfect timing, was just going on a lunch break from work and I see this drop!
My goodness
It’s got some cs80 type vibe I love it so much ! Insane
That synth has its own very unique sound and workflow. It's very impressive.
I love the otherworldly "acoustic" instruments. Very cool to see a new instrument that makes truly original sounds.
Props for throwing in Burning of the Midnight Lamp by Jimi Hendrix, bonus points for that! 😃
Great demo of a really interesting synth too. I liked the string sounds that are somehow both realistic and unreal at the same time.
FM synthesis has so much new ways to go with these new sensors and controllers. It can be so so dynamic and expressive.
Mine arrives tomorrow!
I love what Stephan does, so thank you for keeping nonlinear labs going.
best review of this amazing synth I have seen yet. I think Stephan thinks so as well...haha...the look on his face when Matt attacks those keys...so awesome!!!!
Really great to get to try this at synthfest a few weeks ago. Stephan and Tim were a real pleasure to chat to.
Without doubt the best sounding synth Ive ever heard!
Great way to learn more about C15, very helpful!
wow, this is just fantastic. They've definitely come to the right person to demonstrate the expressively capabilities of this instrument. wow.
most excellent, especially in the hands of a musician like you Matt, not sure who was enjoying this demo the most, you, me or Stephan.
Dude that Hendrix lick was insane!!!
Such a gorgeous instrument. And designed with such care.
Gorgeous. Two Legends. One Synth (and what a cool back story beginning with NI and now creating, true, performance instruments!)
On my list. Great video, Matt!
Wow... this thing sounds!!!
Wow! incredible musical technologies from creator. Stephan Schmitt. Matt, thank you for showing this amazing! The Synth Engine from Nonlinear Labs C15. 👍👍👍
2 powerful brains on display! What a creator and what a musician. Enjoyed every minute of this outstanding video.
I've seen a number of video on the C15 but never thought much about it. But this video makes it shine. Wow, really impressive!
Nice demo on a truly unique synthesizer. Great sounds. I like it.
Great demo of an amazing synth
Wow that c15 sounds marvelous.
After watching your Andromeda demo, I didn't think a demo could get much more amazing. Wow. More fantastic playing and what a remarkable instrument! Thank you so much - made my night!

When I tell you that sound at 13:56 sent a shock through my body. My soul parted from my flesh in a moment of ecstasy. I need this sound NOW!
I want to be their friend, expressivness and deep technical, great guys !!
That is a fantastic demo of an amazing synth!
Oh boy, I would love to have one of these one day. It really is something else. What a great video. Thanks!
Unbelievable range of tones and timbres

What a powerhouse, both as a live performance keyboard and as a soundtrack machine.
Wow, that things sounds really lush! 🙂
Magical.
It sounds like an acoustic instrument, but not one you can name.
High praise by itself and of course it can do much more.
This is my lonely island synth for some years now. And the firmware added so many useful things with each new version. This is a real instrument, not just a synth.

incredible!! Matt the right guy for this beauty

I actually wanted to lie down, but then I saw your post...great video! I really enjoyed it too! ;)
Epic ! Wonder if Matt will be adding one to his collection ?

This is a DOPE SYNTH it sounds fekkin awesome. And yep, Matt plays it like a beast. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Jaw dropping as always. I hope they gave you one, you deserve it.
Great to see they've included the ribbon facility on that synth. I don't know why more synths don't have it.
incredible instrument and masterful playing! that synth engine is incredibly deep, wow.
