Cheap Sat Nav - Hieha 7 inch HGV Sat Nav VS Garmin Dezl 770 lmt-d

  • In this video, I compare a cheap sat nav, the Hieha 7 inch HGV budget sat nav to the premium Garmin Dezl 770 lmt-d truck sat nav, I want to see if the navigation capabilities of the budget sat nav is comparable to that of the Garmin and I was pleasantly surprised.
    This is just a very early review and a more comprehensive review of the Hieha 7" truck sat nav will be coming soon.

    I'm a class 1 articulated lorry driver, after becoming bored with 9-5 office work I started my HGV training in December 2015 and received my HGV licence in February 2016 including the certificate of professional competence (CPC) and I can safely say it was a great decision.
    I currently work for The Watercress Company delivering fresh watercress around the country in a refrigerated articulated lorry. Every job is different but in these video's I try to give you an insight into my experience as a HGV driver.

    I am a class2 HIAB driver and I transport machines (dumpers, excavators, rollers, Hydremas, etc..) all over the shop!!!!
    I use TruckNav (£98) and Hieha 7 seems to be a beefed clone of my satnav, it has the same UI.
    Mine has failed me a few times but this is more about the dealer giving me old maps than the actual operation of my satnav. I miss the functionality of WAZE so I use it side by side.
    Also, it does have route alternatives option selection and it has the improved road names, you just have to search inside the menu and select TTF Pro UK voice (male or female)
    I believe the slight delay in your Garmin is due to the CPU load, if you are using other apps in your Garmin you have to expect micro delays in response times.

    I’m holding out on a Truck Nav,I seem to be doing well with google maps. There’s the odd occasion when you come to a restriction,but it doesn’t take much working out how to get around it and if I ever get that route again its lodged in the old brain box ! Thanks for the video though Kev. : )

    My problem is being 70 I’m not so good on the technical bit ‘ setting up my sat nav/ LWH. Axel ‘ etc
    Would be nice to see you actually setting one of these things up.
    I can remember my old trucks had no heating and no comfort at all ‘ and sat navs weren’t invented ‘ so I’m not complaining ‘

I just checked it yesterday using it in my car. I deliberately went towards a low bridge and it worked by showing warnings. so.yes it works however as you said the voice quality is a bit crap. please keep up the good videos rolling. You'd be better off buying an Xgody 826 for about £42, been using one for the last 2 weeks and not had any GPS drop outs like I had with the Hieha. iGo map updates are available for free via the facebook group for Nozatec Sat navs and the mapping is Here maps which is the same mapping that Garmin use.

      Hi. Good review. I am just getting into HGV Driving following a 22 year career in the forces. I am looking for a decent truck sat nav but don't want to spend a fortune.
      I've been using a budget android touch screen car stereo for a few years now and I've had the IGo software installed on that and it has served me well.
      But I like the idea of an easier option of rerouting to avoid traffic.
      Decisions decisions.

      @@Smudger96 go for truck nav you can get one from ebay for about 80 pounds. Its more expensive than this one however its very popular among the drivers being a reasonably priced sat nav for hgv. The volume quality is not good but its loud enough to be heard. For the price it does the job well. I would personally not spend 3 to 400 pounds on a.satnav. I have been using mine since last year no problems so far. I know the video is quite old but I need to ask.... How is the routing and traffic on your Garmin? I bought a Garmin Dezl 780 LMT-D a few months ago and the traffic is ridiculously bad. It gives me delays that don't exist and when I am stuck in a big jam it displays "No reported traffic ahead"
    Also, the routing is pretty bad... I have had to ignore it many times and just go the way I know because it wants to take me a long way round.
    Let me know, it can't just be me.

    I bought the dezl 580 after a couple of adventure holidays in Glasgow and London in a car transporter! It is overpriced but I don't regret buying it, software was way out of date not recognising roads built a couple of years ago, must update straight away after purchase, I run apple maps in tandem which I find is a little clearer, trouble I found was apple maps is not spec'd for trucks, the Garmin is right 95% of the time, it's not perfect, sometimes I still follow the iphone, most important thing is since purchase I've had no problems with low bridges or weight restrictions.

    Hi Kev and everyone else. Great video as per!!!
    I’m running the garmin and totally happy with it.... but does anyone else have trouble with the IOS software (garmin app) for iPhone keep disconnecting from the device? So Bluetooth connects spot on but the IOS software connects for a short period then just disconnects....?
    Probably came across like a box of waffles but I hope you get the jist??? Stu.

    try this test i had my first job last week i was called by a friend who asked if i could pick up a IPV vehicle from Aylesford and deliver to Market Harborough i went via the Dartford tunnel. The height of the foldaway protection was 16ft 2 as i approached the tunnel i was in lane 2 the height alarm started sounding i checked the signs and lane 1&2 was up to 13ft lanes 3&4 were over 16ft, i moved to lane 3 and the alarm went off, i wonder if the Hieha could do that The Garmin was so accurate it knew my lane id still trust the Garmin over any other

    • @KevTee
      @KevTee  6 років тому

      +Paul Davies yeah that's pretty smart mate, the Hieha should always be used with caution and would never replace my Garmin but for someone on a budget that relies on Google maps it would definitely be a good upgrade.

      Its a trail then paid for. I used it to get to a place with a caravan as im looking to replace my car based Garmin. Whilst the navmeto routed better to the destination over the car garmin, it severly let the side down at the last stretch as it twice wanted to go down roads that said not suitable for long vehicles and it took me up a country lane to the destination which was on a T junction to a wide A road as it tried to save on distance. I had even set the 'truck' with artic spec just to give me (van+ twin axle) sufficient space. It's now uninstalled.

  • @alananderson6812

    I used that Hieha for a week or so. Nothing wrong with iGo Primo software but, the devices GPS reception is poor and once it lost the GPS it would not work again until it was switched off and restarted. The other thing I found was it would go to screen saver once your on the move (which I finally fixed by deleting the screen saver in the UX folder).

    • @KevTee
      @KevTee  6 років тому +1

      +Alan Anderson great feedback cheers Alan, I've not noticed the loss of signal yet, I noticed the annoying screensaver issue and I'll do the same with that, I'm expecting issue's for the cost and im looking forward to doing the long term review.
