I've been using this for around 7 months, it's reliable 95% of the time, but even having my weight set at 44t and height at 4.33m, it has tried sending me through weight restricted areas and under low bridges on a few occassions, and despite entering the vehicle length (standard artic length), it will still try to tell me to make a U-turn at a mini roundabout on the odd occasion where I make a wrong turn somewhere. I remember once on Belvedere, approaching left turn at a roundabout (with a car dealership on the corner), it tried rerouting me to cut through the car dealership to save a minute because of the traffic 😂 But I can't imagine any sat nav is perfect, and it runs great! Especially when you have it connected to the wifi on your phone to keep you updated with traffic delays and road closures etc!

I've always preferred the TomTom to any other brand. Started trucking 30 years ago now and like many drivers back then, I very quickly built a mountain of local street maps for almost every city in the UK. The satnav was one of the best inventions for truck drivers for years and when they first came out, I could never understand why you didn't have to pay some sort of subscription to use the service. Still prefer checking a long route on a traditional road atlas but can't beat the satnav for getting you to the final destination.

I’ve had this a couple of years, overall I think it’s pretty good, traffic as you say is pretty spot on and it will even tell you if there’s heavy rain you’re approaching. Few negatives I have with it are - updating on WiFi takes absolutely ages, I’m talking like 7 hours!
Traffic pretty often drops out if you stop for a while ie a break, usually it sorts it’s self out in 5 minutes or so but occasionally it will loose the traffic for a long time. One occasion it lost the traffic permanently and I had to delete all the maps and completely re set the sat nav to fix it.
And final negative, if your destination is within a weight limit, even an except for access one, the sat Nav only recognises the start of the road as the weight limit, so if there is a road that joins the weight limited road in the middle it will route you that way, which is usually through a residential street, unsuitable for HGV route (sat nav doesn’t route around those as they are advice signs) and occasionally it will be a very long route down country lanes, so if your destination is within a weight limit, you will need to use the add stop on route function to add a stop just before the weight limit, once you drive through the beginning of the weight limited road it will route as normal, and then remember to do the same on the way back out. I once parked 5 minutes from a drop which was 300 yards inside a weight limit, the tomtom was telling me it was going to take 50 minutes to get there and when I checked the route it was taking me on a huge diversion through lots of lanes to avoid the start of the route.

Got the previous 6200 professional from Amazon marketplace and it looks identical but £100's cheaper. Had to travel down a 7.5T except for access road to get to a drop and it was desperate to send me down a farm track to avoid the weight limit .
I've used the green re route a number of times and it's been accurate about the delay and saved time . The Cash generators . Oops , mobile speed camera data relies on users updating the locations as they see them for others to then be warned .

If will not tell you speed vans but will tell you mobile camera hotspots. Again it allows you to tap and mark your own spots on the go e.g laybys or even other popular spots you might want to know about. I have owned almost 4 buying and selling. The only downside is the slow loading menus.
Tomtom just must add a few more road detail like visible bridge heights, access restrictions widths and weight limit markers rather than just routing.
This is a beautiful kit and very strong too, remember to add screen protectors as it does scratch easy. Recommended buy.

Scotty, I dare not watch this - I took delivery of mine yesterday! I managed to pass my Class 2 on Tuesday after the 'Rona delayed tings, just a tad. Still on cloud 9 as not only did I pass but did so with a totally clean sheet :) I have tried it at home and compared the routes with my Phillips Navigator atlas, all good. Pleased to say that you can set it to display in the direction you are travelling in, unfortunately, my tiny little Gay brain can't quite cope with a north-south orientation. Very handy that you're able to plan on the app and adjust way-points on a tablet and then send the route via Bluetooth to the TomTom. If nothing else it's worth the money for the sample voice of Bruce the Aussie - try it, it's hilarious. Big gulp and I will watch the vLog now, I am sure it will be fine. MG.

I’ve had my 6250 for 5 months . Wouldn’t be without it but it could be better. Most short falls have been covered already. Shame that it doesn’t warn of a reduced speed change coming up . Sometimes if you not familiar with an area and with a lot of hedges and other vegetation over grown these days the reduced speed limit can catch you out .

If you plot a route from Sturminster to langport and see which way it sends you. If I’m going to a new destination I start to question my faith in it. Phil

The first sat nav I ever bought was a tomtom back in about 05 I think, I shouldn't imagine a truck one existed back then, it cost £399! Haha, I was only driving 7.5 tonners for comet, I think they were 11' 4' or there abouts, I thought it was the best invention ever!! prior to that you'd have a drivers mate looking at a map trying to get you from one end of the city to the other, I dont drive trucks at all anymore. Thankfully I found bitcoin and matched betting in the early days, but that was down to just listening to educational podcasts on youtube in 2014, that was a workmate pointing out I shouldn't waist my time listening to bs on the radio when im going up and down the motorway 6+ hours a day, he's not a trucker either now

It really needs a better processer, its so slow and I would like it to have included what the particular restriction is on a road, not just a pink line. For example 7.5t except for access vs. a low bridge, I would like to know which one it is before setting off. I use google street view to do this at the moment but its just one more thing to worry about.

I got a normal TomTom Go Prenium. For the speed camera vans i can report them with the report button. Then if the nexst car comes along they get a pop up there is a speed camera van and they can click yes or no and aslong if everybody clicks yes it stays on the map. And when sombody reports no it will be removed. Maybe this is not alowed in the UK so it could be disabled. (And i got a app for that as well just to be sure and most of the time they beep at same point so it does work.)

Been using one for the past 12 months, it's been fine for the most part until the latest map update...... Now it seems to think there are road closures when there aren't any and certain motorway and dual carriageway sections show up as 50Mph......putting that aside though it's worth it's weight in gold, I wouldn't leave home without it. (And that's factoring in that my truck is a Scania S500 that has a built in 7inch touch screen sat nav)
You negated to mention my favorite feature, which is the saving of your destinations but also how you can use the mydrive app (in conjunction with google maps in my case) to put your destination marker exactly where your destination is using your phone and then send it to the sat nav!......some sat navs will take you close but you'll be a street over. (Not too much of a problem in a car but when you're over 50 foot long!!!!) Hopefully they will sort out the weirdness with the maps with the next global update.

    Hi Scott.
What's the new built in sim card on the 6250? How does it make a difference to 6200 as does not have it. Do you know how it be used?

    • @ScottAndrews
      @ScottAndrews  4 роки тому +2

From what I understand you don't need to connect it to your phone anymore for things like traffic. It's all built in. But I've never used the 6200 so I don't know 100%

Difference between 6200 and 6250 is 6200 you have pay for traffic up dates and speed camera locations every year. 52 pound a year. 6250 you get it free every year. But what they don’t tell you if you don’t up date 6250 in a year off having it you have start paying subscription like 6200. That’s the difference between them both. Only 100 pound difference between both. Same size same software etc

I've had mine a year and use it all the time just for traffic, cameras and to check the max speed for a particular stretch of road. As for its mapping, very disappointed. It tells me I have reached my destination when I am miles away, send me down roads unsuitable for HGV's, appalling accuracy at times with its mapping. If I didn't know at times where I was going then God only knows what would happen. Amesbury to Brislington for example and back, just a joke. I keep it up to date. My gripe is they have ben in this game for years and the accuracy should by new be spot on. Never worth the money, just can't trust it. How you can say its never put you wrong, I cannot imagine.
