An overhead console would be a nice way to clean everything up. Maybe a custom one done in fiberglass and painted to match. Another great video!

I've been using Garmins since I passed my truck driving test in 2013. The major rival (TomTom) just doesn't come close. If you drive more than one truck, you've got to set your truck weight, height etc every single time (they don't have profiles) and you can't mix and match units (metres and feet) like you can on Garmin. I keep telling TomTom they'll never get me as a customer without that feature. I just ordered an LGV 810 (that's the European name for the OTR). The only bad unit they did was the Dezl 780; they did away with hands-free dialling because they couldn't make it work with their new Android-based OS. I hope they've sorted that problem out with this one otherwise it's going back as well. I just wish they'd improve things rather than changing them, because they never ask us which features we don't need or don't like, they just change them and expect us to just live with it or stick with our old unit.

Digging into the settings a little further on my Garmin Nuvi 2595 and I found a feature called "Dashboards"... I can pick a dashboard that gives me 2 more data slots in navigation mode... One of these can be set to the current time and the other slot/panel can be set to the arrival time... It's better than squinting at the tiny time at the top corner of your phone... Hope this helps!

I know Garmin used to have a live traffic while using the GPS. It was sold separately, kinda like an antenna that plugged in them. No Hotspot required. My trainer had it. I always hoped Rand McNally would come out with it but never did.

@@Truckinlife yeah but it uses hot spot data like a mofo. I only get 5 GB of hotspot per month from my cell provider, it would be good to have a dedicated live traffic antana that didn't eat cell data.

Here is what you have not heard or been told.
The OTR800 unit is designed for professionals and Truckers and only for the open road and not for city driving. I provide professional repair services to my clients. Garmin (or anybody) really does not make a GPS device for delivery drivers and service professionals and they should.
TheOTR800 is not well suited to the daily driver commute type. The car mode is a joke.
It is easy to use but its alot to learn too.
Voice command recognition is better but you can no longer rename the device and are stuck saying "OK Garmin ~~~~~"
I had a DEZL 770 and then a DEZL780. I only "upgraded" because Garmin is famous for not supporting older models. and I wanted a larger screen.
The older models Navigated better with more options. Shortest route, Fastest route, street only, and economy mixed route.
This way I could chose to save on gas or save on trip time.
The OTR800 does not do this. Its navigation is one minded and the route it chooses most of the time is not the most direct route. Nor can you choose an economy route. Plus you have no choice of what route you you get.
Its navigation is far worse tan Google Maps. and Worse than my Dezl780, which was not perfect.
The OTR800 wants to use only the fastest route and it loves freeways.
    Example:
If you want to go east on to a destination a half mile away on the same street you are already driving east on and there is a freeway ramp miles north, south or west of your present location. The OTR800 will plot a course way out of the way to that on ramp, telling you to traverse ground you already covered.
Just to get you in the freeway.
It does not even consider most of the time that the best route is straight ahead unless it can not find an on ramp within its search radius.
So you have to IGNORE the device your paid nearly a Grand for or use Google maps to find the address.
Plus if you ignore it, it is gets very pushy, tells you are going in the wrong direction, to repeatedly make a U turn until you are within a quarter mile of your destination.
THIS IS INSANE. So do not plan on saving any fuel.
Now if you are in the open country and need the interstate as truckers do, it works great. But for local city driving, I would go back to my 780 if I could to save on gas.
My other gripe is that it's OS is only Android 6. We in 2022 are on Android 12. So most modern apps will not run on it.
    Also WARNING:
APPS Drive and Dezl can not be killed or shut off. They consume power and data constantly
I do not recommend installing Drive app and Dezl app on any phone, until such a time as users have full control over the apps.
For nowhere in the user agreement does it indicate these apps run 24/7 and can not be shut off.
I think they are secretly collecting personal data.
The apps really do not help me navigate. They are supposed to warn me of real time traffic and speed traps. This is yet to happen once, in the six months I have owned the OTR800.
Last gripe is the on screen warnings and agreement you see EVERY time you boot up the device. Annoying and takes too long. Does not remember the last mode, Truck, Van, Car etc it was in either..
The first thing a good GPS device should do when you turn it it on is show you a map of your present location and ask you where you want to go. Garmin does not think this is important.
So Is it better than a 780. No not for my application.. It does find addresses and house numbers very accurately, better than the 780. But on several occasions it took me way out of the way and on several occasions had me drive in circles or drive to the wrong place THEN correct itself.
Garmin should add back in the 780 economy features, retain last user settings and learn efficient practical routes from Google maps.

I'm on a pit crew for a 360 sprint car team and my wife and I travel in our motorhome to different tracks. What would you recommend to be a good Garmin to put in the motorhome? I would like to put one in here that we could put the height of the motorhome in it so I don't got under two short of bridges.

These new OTR series are good for that. Kenwood also makes a couple in dash units with truck/Rv routing.

I have a DEZL770. You do not explain in the update procedures that you can not use the Mini USB port to do updates. I did not realize that it had another port. Seriously you need one port for all functions on your devices. UNIVERSAL SERIAL PORT AKA USB. Your current port system is just stupid.
I drive for a living doing deliveries in a van.
    1. You have no icon for a van. Many types of vehicles are not represented.
    2. You need a database with Make & model of every vehicle. Thus you would know the average fuel mileage of the vehicle in use.
    3. You do not have a Fuel mileage log in the dezl770. AMAZING, Are you this ignorant of such a basic need ?
    4. I need to be on the right side of the road not the left side, in front of my delivery address. NOT across the street. you need a drivers delivery route program that puts people like me on the right side in which to park. Else we get run over by traffic.
    5. Speaking of parking, You have a "Go home" button, Why not a Park button ?
    6. Another stupid thing is, the first three menus I have to view and go through EVERY time I start this unit. VERY ANNOYING and time consuming. They are ignored and thus useless.
    7. I want a machine that learns my habits and starts on the screen I most use. The enter an address screen.
    8. Your whole address entry system is terrible and slow. I can not even enter a zip code, which would greatly reduce the address search time. DUH!
    9. Magellan has an excellent address entry system and it works. Copy it. Unfortunately the rest of Magellan units are not so good.
    10. It should be able to calculate fuel mileage and recommend gasoline station when our running low. then automatically ask how many gallons were added when parked at a gas station and recalculate the mileage to next refill.
    11. I want a machine that learns my preferred driving routes and stops trying to take me on side streets, bike paths, alleys and bad roads.
    12. I paid big bucks for a professional unit and this is the best you can do ? This unit has not had a serious update in a decade.
    13. You can not even adjust the screen icon size.
    14. You need new programmers. Adults are using your devices and they appear to be designed with cute graphics for children.
    15. Your Bluetooth does not make a copy of ones contacts within the unit. DUMB.
    16. Your updated maps are out of date by one to two years. Any new housing built within the last 6 months I have to use google maps.
    17. If I have to use google maps, what do I need your device for ?
    18. Your updates are slow in coming and very slow to do an update.
    19. You need to step your game and stay competitive.
Hire new programmers too. Your current programmers suck. You programming is linear and not redundant not circular.
    Milwaukee Wisconsin and surrounding counties.
    Very disappointing.
