excellent tips there Phoebe ! the frozen bottle of water thing is something many Aussies are not used to (unless you live in Stanthorpe).
Amazing summary and some great tips for visiting the wonderful, Aotearoa. Covers every important detail tourist need when visiting the country. But don't forget the two important's during winter, wet weather gear and a really warm, waterproof jacket. The weather is usually very wet and rains a lot in Winter and can be really cold, sometimes even during Summer. Especially some of the more southern regions. Great video

New Zealand has ACC coverage (private medical insurance) for all ‘accidents’ requiring hospital admission. Look it up.
ACC stands for the Accident Compensation Corporation. It is a Government department and is designed to cover any accident costs for Kiwis and (I think???) visitors. Pays to check out what visitors need to cover themselves for with travel insurance. It might not be as bad as you think. Be assured though, you won't be asked to prove you can pay for hospital treatment (accidental) before you are treated. I have heard some countries will leave you lying on a gurney if you can't prove you can pay. That won't happen in NZ.
As a Kiwi I enjoy watching videos such as this and the advice given. Your advice to travellers is EXCELLENT.
3 Comments though :
1: Travel insurance is a must. However, if you have any accident in New Zealand the MAJORITY of your medical costs will be covered by by our Accident Compensation Scheme (ACC). This is a "No Faults" scheme.
2: There are sharks around New Zealand. They rarely cause an issue.
3: Snow - you will mainly encounter this in the South Island high country during winter and the central North Island. Problems with roads rarely last more than a couple of days at a time.

The summer months are December, January and February.
February is considered the month with the most settled weather, and probably the best month for visiting New Zealand, as the kids are back at school and everyone's back at work after their summer holidays.
February is generally the hottest month and has the most settled weather. Novembers weather can be dicey.

I agree there are no dangerous land animals but there is the odd shark in the sea. They tracked great whites and found some regularly commute between Aus and NZ, thats crazy, like 2500 km each way

Great info Phoebe. Btw, I heard that the worlds largest insect can be found in NZ called “Weta”. Did you come across any ?
Thanks Chilli! Hahaha no we did not! Although, by the sounds of it, I'm kinda glad we didn't. I got to visit the Weta workshop in Wellington once tho, that was AMAZING!! P xx
Wetas can often be found in your firewood stack! 😁 The largest species of Weta can grow to the size off a field mouse. I've been stung by a female one, painful but harmless!!

They have air siren in NZ cities? OMG I would freak out like in that movie “Silent Hill” but I kinda like it.
Its the fire warning siren for the fire brigade's fire fighters. The siren literally is a WW2 air raid siren!
bahahaha we thought the world was ending when we heard it! It was freaky! P x
@@travelforphoebe Another story that springs to mind regarding the local fire brigade's siren, is my mates nan. She lived through the London blitz as a child and visited NZ for the first time in the early 2000s. Me and my mate were sitting in a cafe with her (which is in the small NZ town where we live) when the siren went off. She literally just about dived under the table!!!

Everyone in new zealand is covered for medical or hospital treatment for accidents under our ACC system
