Pass the guard to arm triangle. Nothing is more old school than this. The new era of athletes like Craig Jones (B team Jiu Jitsu) and Gordon Ryan (New Wave Jiu Jitsu) have a new flare to add to this old school style of BJJ.

My first Online Instructional Course is here! limibjj.mykajabi.com/course
I have spent the past few months focused on passing half guard and am happy to announce that I have compiled all of my findings to create my first instructional course! My goal is to give you a clear game plan and training methods to transform your guard passing
Great course. Thanks you for doing the work that I do not have time to do, and doing it well! Very good analysis and breakdowns. I have a lot of Gordon and JD instructionals, and your analysis helps to give a lot more real world examples and overall cohesion to all of these varying techniques. Thanks again!
@@pixelholix awesome! That is exactly the goal so I am very happy you found it useful. Thanks for the feedback and the support 🙌🏼
I see Less Impressed, I am Yes Impressed
Much impress. Very improve.
Haha thanks my man!
Thoroughly impressed lol
Im glad you mentioned Akins from a DECADE ago. As a Rickson team member its interesting to see so many "new" developments that are actually re-hashing of very old concepts thats have been missed for years. We teach this to our white belts. Nobody at our school dismounts of finish an arm triangle. What would be interesting is to discover where the dismounting originated🤔
Thank you and yes that is a very interesting question! I wonder where it originated!
@@LIMIBJJ Japan.
The reality is nothing is new. Everything is built on inherited insight. Rickson taught Akins, Helio taught Rickson, Kano taught Helio, etc. How the techniques are applied changes over time and techniques are rediscovered and given new life in each generation. The value added comes from each individuals wisdom and experience adding to the chain! We are part of a living system!
This is amazing. Literally one of the best guard passing videos I’ve ever seen on UA-cam. Coming from a super nerd who watches a ton lol
Thank you haha I am glad you enjoyed it!
One thing I learned from my coach last night for passing from butterfly half is that if you can get the near side underhook and head post on the far side, like you mentioned you can stuff the butterfly hook leg and try to clear it straight to mount. But the cool follow up to that move is that the bottom players only option is to try to get their other leg in as a butterfly hook before you fully mount, and when they do you can transition to dope mount style passing where you can finish to mount or split the legs Craig jones power ride style
They are in the loop at that point as Craig would say. It's a slow death haha love it!
That hang up phone sound effect killed me
😂
My dude you literally never miss with your vids!
Arm triangle is one of my favourite subs and pretty common in NoGi I'd say
Excellent video and breakdown as always, much appreciated
Good luck with the course!
Thanks my man! It is one of my favorites as well! I appreciate the support!
Your videos are getting better and better. Thank you!
Thank you I am glad you are finding them helpful!
Great job as always !
Thanks my man! Appreciate the comment and the support!
Great stuff! Thanks for all you do!
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
This was solid gold nuggets of wisdom. 🙏🏽
You never miss 🎯 thank you for your videos!
Thanks my man I appreciate the support!
Your videos are so good!
Thank you! I am glad you are finding them helpful!
Man, thank you very much! You did a fantastic job on making your explanations easier to follow ❤
Mate so much gold in this video, I feel like you have read my mind.
Half Butterfly passing, the annoying hip post, leg turks and the new way to finish arm triangles- its all covered.
Excellent video, i've taken notes - these are all areas I have been working on through instructional but you have a unique way of dissecting the information brilliantly and making it easy to digest.
The cross hip post is something I dont see covered a lot , Gordon only covers it slightly in his mount and its a really annoying defence
Awesome my man! Yeah these are all things I struggle with in my own training as well so I just tried to make a video addressing all of it. Glad you found it helpful!
I love the Henry Akins mention! Ive been working on finishing from mount for a year or so now. Definitely better so you dont give up position.
This was a great video. Subscribed
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
Just taught this in my classes last night. Timing 💪
Chemistry 🧪
Also recommend from half guard whether they have a butterfly or not. Also,if you pass the guard but are getting the stiff arm from hell...walk your legs back to pin their legs right your hips and get into the leg drag position.... now....either one of these make them roll to their far shoulder a tad and make a fist between their back and floor. Drive forward creating tons of pressure on the spine making them make mistakes. Either bridge sloppily and you can get Mount. They remove the stuff arm to let you pass so on n so forth. Just my two cents. Tom Deblass is a genius!
Yep yep ride the legs and slow death
A like for the hang up sound but the information was good too
😂
Always great content and happy to see you monetizing your efforts a bit more good for you!
At some point I have to try to pay the bills! Thanks for the support!
Haven't watched, have liked 💪
You da man 🙌🏼
Gonna work this into my game asap
OSS 👊👊
Yeah buddy! 👊🏼👊🏼
👊🏼 what I have been going to from the arm triangle is getting the arm around the head deep as I can with almost a rnc lock then slide the arm in like a Ezekiel Choke from here I can control the shoulder and choke. I will have to cut a video on this setup. I will tag you in it.
Love it!
I'd love to see a comment in one of these on how to deal with the lockdown - I'm having success implementing a lot of these concepts but when I'm chest to chest, a lot of guys go to the lockdown and it can be a huge pain to deal with.
fantastic video by the way
Yeah the lockdown can be super annoying. I discuss it in this video a bit but a longer discussion might be in order
ua-cam.com/video/XGBHXO-EMk0/v-deo.html&feature=shares
@@LIMIBJJ Thanks for the reply. Yeah I watched that video again after commenting but it's still an issue. Maybe I'm just being entitled though - assuming once I've got chest to chest and am close to moving to mount like i 'deserve' the pass and don't want to go through the hastle of getting out of a last-minute lockdown.
@@mephistophile33 hahaha yeah that lockdown is the last saving grace of a lot of people!
perhaps getting in contact with a great editor or someone to make visuals for these concepts could help a lot. really well explained but a visual aid of some kind would do wonders
Right on thank you for the feedback! Is there an example of a video where you enjoy the editing?
I would love if you make videos like these for ankle locks. Started to train with sambo guys and man that guy destroyed everybody pulling guard ( he didn't destroy their ankles just made them tap.) It got to the point most people didn't wanna pull guard. They had good kneebar defense but for some reason, ankles locks they had more trouble
I am going down the ankle lock rabbit hole a bit now!
Can you do some mount videos?
Keep up the good work 😊
Yeah I have done a couple but plan to do more in the future for sure! Appreciate the feedback and the idea!
what a systemic video!
always I get many things from your videos.
could you make a more detailed guard passing combination video?
I love your approach for guard passing scenario.
and I like this new intro 😄
Thank you! What would you like to see in terms of a guard passing combination video?
😂 you're a real one!
I like a lot the concise summary at the end, helps a lot retaining information !
I agree with the arm triangle, our coach taught us to finish while maintaining some kind of deep knee on belly
Yeah I think I am going to start doing that more often!
Right on yeah I think things like that are going to start to become more popular
11:21 I know those guys! 😂😂😂
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I love the cross step detail, how close you see it to the leg trap approach?
What do you mean by the leg trap approach?
⚡🔥
🙌🏼🙌🏼
I have such a weird feeling as a bteam member when I watch jits UA-camrs and see clips from the training sessions 😂 but great content Fr tho
Haha I bet! Thanks for all you guys do! Stay on the grind my man!
Impressed. Would you break down random grapplers matches?
I am considering offering like a "private lesson" where I would go through a match with individuals, but as of now myself and the community offer rolling footage feedback in my Outlier Community. If you are interested in a private lesson let me know. I havent done one before though so you would be the guinea pig haha
@@LIMIBJJ i definitely would
@@user-ku2tq1js2v ok awesome. Do you have an Instagram? Could you reach out to me on there and we can figure it out?
How do you like to configure your arms when finishing from mount? Unless they're really big, I like RNC grip with my free hand to my forehead, then slowly drive forehead to the mat.
I like either an s grip, palm to palm, or wrist to wrist. I never really use the rear naked grip. Gordon talks about how it narrows your base too much so I don’t really do it
07:27 arm triangle escape
🙌🏼
Is it because people have weak hips that they try to dismount and finish the arm triangle? CJ is in like a single leg mount that blocks the hip escape but also maintains the pressure. I think it has to do with some angles and the angle of the choke. I have never had much success with a dismounted arm triangle for or against me.
I am the opposite body type as you are. I would probably literally try to stand up from arm triangle if no one held my body down lol. Not sure how well it would go.
Either way nice vid.
Haha right on yeah CJ hips are next level
It’s interesting that more top levels guys don’t look for the “RNC” grip on the arm triangle. That’s my preferred way and yes it is harder to get that grip vs the gable grip but I think the RNC grip on the finish makes the rolling defense less likely to work. Idk maybe I’m dumb for doing the RNC grip on the arm triangle?
I think Mica did it recently? People say the downside to the RNC grip is that it narrows your base quite a bit
@@LIMIBJJ oh I’ll have to check that out and okay that makes sense. Never thought about it that way!
@@ethanbuttitta1 🙌🏼
@@LIMIBJJ Bo nickal must have watched the video Lol. He also finished with the RNC grip
I tried to purchase the course from your website, but it says sold out?
It will be available again on Sunday. I limited the sales to 50 people I initially so I can be sure they are happy and make changes based on their feedback. Changes have been made and it will be relaunching on Sunday. Thanks for your patience and support!

Will you be discussing Kieran Kichuck (I just butchered his name there, sorry to kieran in advance.) anytime soon? I mean he's gonna be fighting in the upcoming wno card so it would be great if you could breakdown his matches again. (Also I'm asking this because if you could remember I'm the guy who asked about if you will be breaking down Craig's false reap, mainly the false reap he hit on meregali. So this is realted to that.)
Ah right on! Yeah I have not studied the false reap too much recently but I am hoping to get there before that card. I really enjoy Kieran's game and he is a great guy so I plan to make many more videos about him in the future. Just not sure when at this point but I am transitioning my attention from passing to attacking from half guard so the false reap study will begin soon
Fantastic stuff as always any chance on doing an analysis on criag jones recent thoughts on bjj and his coaching of volk for the islam fight?
I actually didnt get to see the fight so I am waiting for it to come on UFC fight pass to watch it. Cant wait!
@@LIMIBJJ lmao same, I've only seen clips and Henry cuejos breakdown.
@@justin8865 haha right on yeah it sounded like such a good fight
Who is in the match at 3:35 please?
Nora Schultz!
Are arm triangles a cheap move? I'm a blue belt, former wrestler and a big dude and this is a finish I get quite often. It just feels like I'm gooning people when I catch it.
I wouldn't say they are cheap. They are low risk and very effective. I think they get a bad wrap because people crank on them a lot. A general rule I use is if you have to squeeze over 40% in training you are doing it wrong and adjust your position dont just squeeze harder. That is how I approach all my submissions
So isn’t this course just a summary of everyone elses courses? Like Danaher, Craig, Gordon etc?
I would think of it more as a research or thesis paper as opposed to a summary. In academia a lot of times people are not trying to reinvent the wheel. They just look at the top thinkers in the area and test their ideas against one another. The goal is to find where they harmonize or contradict to develop a deeper understanding. That is how I approach the course and what I believe I can offer to the jiu jitsu world
@@LIMIBJJ it’s interesting to see our opinions aligned here. I have been coaching my students to force half guard while using games over the past year. They recently did very well in some local tournaments. A success so far.
@@impolitikful this is the way 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@LIMIBJJ did you see the Craig Jones comment on Reddit recently that he likes to make two people play a game of takedown where one person is forced to have bad posture? Now that is a valuable constraint.
@@impolitikful interesting I did not but will try to find it!

Would some this be called float passing?
Fantastic video by the way love the content
Thank you! I think it would maybe be considered more foot pummeling because you are already chest to chest. When I think of float passing it is more hands on the mat and your are floating over your partner, but I could be wrong.
