07/04/23, I'm having a quiet drink with my headphones on listening to this. I have a lump in my throat and I'm trying to hold the tears of joy and appreciation at bay, people may think I'm sad, or mad, or both. This sing lifts my spirits
Trust me, I get it. Have loved her since college and heard this song for the first time in 1976, which is the year it came out in the United States. Been a fan of Joan ever since.
I was brought up with her from my parents and i genuinly dont understand how she isnt recognised as was of the best female artist is soul/rock ever, she has literally ALWAYS been incredible, and those tones she brought out in the 70's/80/s oh my god, im taken every time, nearly to tears sometimes and im barely a soft dude lol
@@cedricbiyela2831 No, look at at the star status of so many black female singers in blues, soul, R&B, pop etc...The issue is probably her music didn't fit into a genre that would have put her on the charts.
it has changed but because she's such an amazing musician she's tweaked the song to fit her voice and its changes. In some ways I think the age in her voice suits her songs better now than it did in 1976.
Her voice has changed considerably actually. In the 70s it was a higher mezzo voice, but in the 21st century it is solidly a contralto. This is actually the same key as she performed it in ‘75 and on: E major. But she has adapted it to fit her voice more and she has worked her voice around to ease through these passages, as her voice most fiercely and easily allows now. It’s a beautiful thing.
I'm 70. I've been there & got many T shirts but this song, especially this extraordinary live version, reduces me to tears - evey time. And I'm not afraid to admit it.
This amazing song carries everyone's emotions back to a happier time. I used to pick my girlfriend up from work, and one dark cold rainy Liverpool night as I was driving home with her this was playing on the radio. Every time I hear it I'm back in that car with Cathy beside me. Oh how I wish time could stand still and I could hug her again. I'm still hopeful that one day I'll see her and we can catch up over a coffee. The sax solo gets me every time. Such a great song that takes me back to a happy 'in love' feeling. Thank you Joan Armatrading xxx.
You see skonny it was 84 and we lived in London we used to make love listening to this song since than I still dream of her and I know that before I'll die I have to see her once again and than go
I don't know whether to laugh, cry, do a dance or just rip my clothes off and jump in the lake but whatever I do it was because of her music and its power to make me glad to be alive. Thanks Joan you talented devil :)
I noticed that a lot of people in the crowd were crying, or trying not to. I'm sitting here sobbing. I've not had it good lately and this song has brought it out. EDIT..the only woman I have ever loved came back to me after 24 years away and is going to marry me again, we couldn't be any happier. ❤ Hold on to your dreams. Thanks for the likes and comments. 😊
AGREED and I'm showing mine too and proud of it. Yes, Phoebe, Rikki, Joni, Joan, Suzanne Vega belongs there as well, and of course, anyone else I left out.
Joan is just off the charts original. Original is really the true test of art. In addition, it still feels fresh all this time later. Extraordinary talent liek this commands respect.
i really admire, and am inspired by the older generations connection to music. they always seem so much more lost in the moment, no phones or any distractions, just complete immersion in whats happening right before them. eyes closed, hands up just.. being there. shoutouts to the baby boomers
It saddens me when the younger generation display a sea of phones and don't live in the moment. I remember amazing gigs from 40 years ago and still embrace the mesmerising uniqueness of a live performance.
In the audience I see grey haired people, pre-teens, and every age in between. They all have a look of rapture as they appreciate this beautiful talent.😍😍😍😍💖
Magnificent, especially after having just watched her performing it in 1976, a shy little thing with the voice of an angel, which just got richer over time. And that 12-string kicks ass.

One of the finest singer songwriters of all time. Her lyrics are intelligent and powerful. Her musicianship is astonishingly original. She is a timeless talent and a gift to the world.
Pure talent unchanged by the years, others like her such as Tracy Chapman are the same. We need these artists back in the media and inspiring young artists.
Just amazing! I feel bad for the younger generations not only never having deeply felt, complex pop music to reel to, but also not even being much into music now that it's commoditized, de-monetized, and not being as addictive as video games. I'm glad I was alive for peak music.
I discovered Joan in around 1979. Her recordings have always been excellent quality, her voice expressive. When I first heard you Joan I became a fan! Thank you for your contribution to music.

Everybody from the kid, to the guy at 2:11 seconds onwards are mesmerised by such a beautiful and talented human being. The people are enjoying themselves and are in a special place. Like Tim Buckly, Nick Drake, Nico, and Laura Nyro before her.
I respect your opinion, I understand where it's coming from, but it's not accurate. Look at the catalogue, the videos, the fans.

Lyrics
I am not in love
But I'm open to persuasion
East or West
Where's the best
For romancing
With a friend
I can smile
But with a lover
I could hold my head back
I could really laugh
Really laugh
Thank you
You took me dancing
'Cross the floor
Cheek to cheek
But with a lover
I could really move
Really move
I could really dance
Really dance
Really dance
Really dance
I could really move
Really move
Really move
Really move
Now if I can feel the sun
In my eyes
And the rain on my face
Why can't I
Feel love
I can really love
Really love
Really love
Really love
Really love
Love love love love
Love love love love
Now I got all
The friends that I want
I may need more
But I shall just stick to those
That I have got
With friends I still feel
So insecure
Little darling I believe you could
Help me a lot
Just take my hand
And lead me where you will
No conversation
No wave goodnight
Just make love
With affection
Sing me another love song
But this time
With a little dedication
Sing it, sing it
You know that's what I like
Once more with feeling
Give me love
Give me love
Give me love
Love
