I remember when she arrived in the mid-70's she immediately acquired a reputation as a sensitive folkie singer type. And there was a market for that. But she's obviously so much more, and by her third album she was actively rebelling against it. Maybe the music industry - and to be honest, the audience - wasn't ready for a strong, axe-wielding, rock and roll black woman. But thank god her youtube vids exist for those who have ears to hear and eyes to see.
As a 40 year old man I only wished I had discovered her music earlier. Oh the sexiness in the groove of this song
Her guitar playing never gets the respect that it deserves. She can play all styles.
The Divine Presence ( Presents ) is abundant in this Wonderful Lady. Amazing talent .
A wonderfully talented lady.
Love seeing posts where she plays guitar,or piano. She puts her wonderful personality in everything, all while delivering a solid song, always!!!

Joan Armatrading could sing the phone book and I would have a tear running down my cheek ... legend!
I couldn't just click like, had to say Kool comment.
Joan could always play a pretty mean lead guitar. She never did to much of it in studio, but live she would and it was always pretty kickass.
An aspect of her clear Genius that needs to be honestly appreciated, respected and noted.
Natural Talent 💛
