I agree with your assessment at the end of this video. It doesn’t do cleans well but for the bedroom metal player it does a very good job with the 6505 sound for the money.
Nice review Hunter. I just bought one and paired it with a 2x12 Peavey cab loaded with scorpion speakers. It sound very good with loads of distortion for metal. Thanks for the review
Seeing a new Agufish video is like playing new strings. It's like opening a case with a nee guitar. It's like accidentally getting perfectly timed feedback
I got the Peavey Piranha 6505 micro and the 6505 1x 8” cab for $200 bux and it’s all I use now! Pushed all my other cabs in the guest room. It is perfect for my Ibanez RG 550 and Ibanez TS-9 pedal and it seems to Love it as well.#Peavey#SouthMs.#🎸🤘🏻

@@bondalero0074 I think it sounds better with larger cabs ...a 1x12 is both compact and great sounding for 20 watts ...i love these small hybrid amps...the only thing I add (other than a pedal for boost) is mxr eq pedal and a rock torn noise gate...
I just ordered a DigiTech Bad Monkey after using a Ibanez TS-9 & Boss DS1; all great pedals just I liked the Bad Monkey because of the Bass EQ.#Thanks@@dddd717
Yeah I saw that. I think it's a combination of A) I'm using a Tube Screamer and double tracking in the mix, and B) I'm using the Two Notes Torpedo Live, so it sounds like it's pushing a full 4x12. IIRC, Chappers and Lee were using a cheap Peavey 1x12?
I really the cab is what killed their video. Of course through a 4x12 or Torpedo live it will sound a lot better. I bet you could run this thing through a Mesa 2x12 and it would still sound really good. I've never liked Peavey cabs.
I've never been a fan of the Peavey cabs. I had Peavey 412 a long time ago. I changed the speakers a couple of times, but I still couldn't get a good sound.
yeah clean channel not so hot, but perfect size as a back up head if you cooked one while out doing a gig I imagine. sounds pretty good for for what it is
I just got one to play with. While I won’t say I hate it, the tone is soooooo thin. It sounds like a little 5w beginner practice amp regardless of what I push it through (MB 412, Marshall 412, Bugera 412). I think this one will be on Reverb before the week is out.
Try Joyo Bantamp series like the Zombie II or the Meteor II. The solid state power section gives more bass response than these fully tube amps while still having that nuanced tone with the tube preamp
Cool video. Just saw this amp on Rob Chapman's channel. :) Not really an amp I would be looking at playing. Seemed like a lot of people were not liking the tones. Looking forward to the next video. cheers.
Man I am so conflicted with this thing. It's really cool and I want to like it. But in some videos it sounds good and in others it sounds bad. I think my main problem is that it doesn't really sound like a 6505 to me, but it is also a micro head so I don't know. Also my 6505+ has amazing cleans Hunter ; )
Lol, I didn't say 6505s couldn't do good cleans. But if you're looking for solely clean tones out of an amp, the 6505 isn't the first amp you're looking at haha! Yeah, tone-wise it doesn't really sound like a 6505, but I can't really tell whether that's because it's missing all that low end or they've changed too much in the circuitry. It's a 6505 in terms of gain-on-tap though!
Agufish Haha the correct answer is a stock 6505 can barley do cleans at all. But yeah all of the gain is there for sure. I think if anything it's missing the low end AND the high end. It sounds like all high mids to me which granted the 6505 has a ton of, but part of the tone is also the massive low end and searing high end. Maybe an eq in the loop of this thing (thankfully Peavey included one!) would do the trick?
Maybe.. I tried messing around with EQ in post, which did make it sound a bit better, then I decided that would be misrepresenting the head because I had to do a lot more than just simple high and low pass filters.
Luke Kramer You just can't over think these micro heads. You are never going to get an amazing tone out of them and they will never sound even close to as good as the full sized heads. They are fun and cool little bedroom practice amps. If you look at them for what they really are, you will see the cool factor but if you are hoping they will be something they are not, you will be disappointed by all the micro heads on the market.
Actually, I think the piranha approaches the sound of the big 6505 pretty well. Of course, the real thing is a monster, but the overall tone of the two amps is very similar. Same with the mini head.
Haha, unfortunately mine's a limited edition of a guitar model that Epiphone stopped producing a few years ago. The normal ones had more of an "aged white" finish and a stop-tail rather than a Maestro vibrola.
is it loud enough through a 4x12 to jam and gig with? 20watts should be enough... but depends... what do you think? In the track it sounds nothing like the piranha on its own later on... first I thought it sounds bad but when I heard just the amp it sounded crazy good for such a low price amp. I still think you cut too much highs in the mix
And for about 100 more you can get an old peavey VTM, Ultra or Triumph head and really kick ass. Those were made in the usa and are tanks. Probably the last time Peavey put out good amps lol.
thanks dude! I will try to get one of those on here. It sucks that it takes about a week to make a good video, because there are so many requests and so much gear I'd love to have on the channel, and barely any time to do it!
Melloyellow03 I have never played this Peavey but I do have the Orange Micro Dark. I would apply the same assessment of this amp to the Orange. I wouldn't gig or record with it but for just messing around at home and using it as a practice amp it fits the bill. I personally like Peavey distortion better than Orange distortion across all of their amps so if this had been out when I bought my Orange I would have gotten this for sure. As long as you look at these amps for what they really are, a fun little practice amp not to be taken seriously, I don't think you can go wrong with either. But my vote would be the Peavey. Oh, and I run mine through a closed back Orange PPC 2x12.
Man I used to own that same Epiphone SG G-400 for a long time before I sold it off. These days I kinda regret it and now I'm looking for one again, but for some reason they have gone up in price..
I'd love to! There is a ton of stuff on the plate right now, including gear that either doesn't have a good demo or there's very little content for on UA-cam. There's a ton of Micro Terror stuff, so honestly that'd be pretty far down my list.
Don't waste your money on that gear, sorry i've had the micro terror and the micro dark now. They both sound shitty, and over priced. The crush series is better sounding in my opinion. I think the peavey sounds better and has way better overdrive than the orange. Orange overdrive has a fuzz quality to the micros sound more like pedals than amp gain. Once again just what i have found over several months of use i play metal. I have been chasing tone for a while now. The ultimate bedroom rig still searching.....
MrStevelovesguitars Orange amps are meant to sound fuzzy. Not a bad thing, is just a characteristic of the Orange sound. Is not a common gain sound, and that's why all the stoner/doom/sludge movement loves Orange amps. Peavey high gain amps are designed almost 100% for the modern metal market, and obviously they sound a lot different. However, I can't say the Piranha sounds good in my opinion. For modern metal I'll prefer a Joyo Zombie (Mesa Boogie Rectifier inspired micro amp)over the Peavey.
Ranger11413 I use it without any effects (planing to do but not now) and it sounds quite good not the best but good. I use a Peavey cab loaded with scorpion speakers
when are you guys going to quit doing " amp demos" with pedals i the front, and massive compression in post? for christ sake,i want to hear the amp,not your engineering skills
Um,.. ...NO! I gotta have a full tube amp. That is why I build them. This thing sounds awful (your playing is great!). I have been building and tweaking tube amp for over 30 years (yeah,I am old).
Haha, I'd never choose it over a full tube amp, but for the price it's not bad? Better than a full solid-state amp at any rate. That's pretty cool man. I wish I could build my own, but I'm pretty sure I'd end up blowing myself up in the process.
We love you brother fish, but man is it funny revisitng your older videos and hearing how high your voice used to be!
Wow..... It sounds way better than I expected
I agree with your assessment at the end of this video. It doesn’t do cleans well but for the bedroom metal player it does a very good job with the 6505 sound for the money.
exactly!
Can't think of a piranha pun. If you have a good one, let minnow!
Agufish that's the only time I will let you FINish your puns with me.
Maybe it was my computer, but I think you needed to tuna that guitar......
Just dont be shellfish.
@@whyuyellinginmyear3476 it was your computer
This amp really has a *BITE* to it
Man, you hit puberty hard in these years
Nice review Hunter. I just bought one and paired it with a 2x12 Peavey cab loaded with scorpion speakers. It sound very good with loads of distortion for metal. Thanks for the review
Had the Orange micro but sent it back. Awsome sound
Are you Steve Terreberrys brother?
Yes i am
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Seeing a new Agufish video is like playing new strings. It's like opening a case with a nee guitar. It's like accidentally getting perfectly timed feedback
Haha! True :P
now I need to hear a demo with the matching Peavey 8" Pirahna Cab \m/

Very Kick Ass.... it's a Peavey what more needs to be said🤘🎸♍️♏️
I'm surprised at how good it sounds
Andertons music (Rob Chapman) did a video on it a few days ago and I thought it sounded really poor in that video. It sounds really good here.

Yeah I'm amazed at how different my tone is compared to what Chappers was getting. Probably down to the crappy 1x12 cab they were using
Agufish exactly. That cab killed the amp
It needs EQ pedal because the EQ built in is almost useless. You can get nice scooped sound when dialed back but the rest is crap.
sick dude just got one its pretty cool awesome review
Hi! It can be used without cab connection, only in headphones?
What drums are used here? Snare actually sounds purty good
Hey man! Great video! What are the settings on the Tube Screamer??

Haha, unfortunately mine's a limited edition of a guitar model that Epiphone stopped producing a few years ago. The normal ones had more of an "aged white" finish and a stop-tail rather than a Maestro vibrola.
This is the first time I have ever heard this amp head sound decent...
Could you please review Joyo Zombie?
Love you videos!
I was wondering, would this work without a cab, like just as a head on its own?

It's really not that loud. If you've got a real drum kit I think you'd struggle a bit with the Piranha unfortunately.
thats sad! It sounds really good. In that case I will try to get my hands on a 6505 MH
ZARG for the same or slightly a little more money you can get a 100 watt all tube peavey valveking on the used market

Two Notes Torpedo Live :)
See if you can take a look at Quilter products. Admittedly I do not think they have a good supply of dealers yet.
The Piranha or Orange micro dark?? Not sure if you have ever played through one of those.
Never played the Orange Micro Dark, unfortunately. I reached out to Orange a while back and they never emailed me back :(
Melloyellow03 I have never played this Peavey but I do have the Orange Micro Dark. I would apply the same assessment of this amp to the Orange. haha yeah it's kind of ridiculous how much gain this little thing has.
You should review the Orange Micro Terror
I'd love to! There is a ton of stuff on the plate right now, including gear that either doesn't have a good demo or there's very little content for on UA-cam. There's a ton of Micro Terror stuff, so honestly that'd be pretty far down my list.

how many watt this amp? sounds awesome
20, but as a solid state amp, it's consistent from very low volume to cranked, so it's still great for bedroom use.
Need every bit in the chain to achieve that tone. Without them you'll most likely be disappointed ?

I have this amp. Not that impressed.
Super whimpy gain. Disappointing.
These reviews remind me of how fluff does them
I've always said that Fluff is a big inspiration for my video format. His mixing and presentation is next level though!
