As a Home Depot Garden associate, as soon as you said you found the sad little display of carnivorous plants I knew exactly what you were talking about. Every summer (and around Halloween too for some reason) we always get this green cardboard display with Piranha Plants slapped across it with like thirty small venus fly traps in these little plastic shells like they were a gacha pull. At my store, we have the display located near the the exit of the store leading into our green house area so yeah, they get zero sun light. I can't tell you how many times I've had to toss those little guys away down our trash chute in receiving. But if your plant dies with 30-90 days, you can always bring it back to get a replacement or refund in we still have that plant in stock. Also, Carnivine seems like a suitable name for your new little sprout.

No, mint in the ground outside and mint in a pot are veeeeery different in that regard.
Mint in the ground: very hard to kill, will come back from anything and spread everywhere.
Mint in a pot (especially inside): easy to accidentally kill even for experienced house plant owners who were really trying their best.

Pro tip, if you ever manage to make it into the top 20% and buy a house, keep some mint plants (IN POTS) on hand for any particularly obnoxious neighbors or HOA presidents. Plant some of it in their precious gardens right under their existing shrubs so the foliage hides it in the beginning, and watch them stress out over it for months as it starts to spread.

Soo, i was able to successfully put my flytraps in dormancy with great success.
1.)Get some pea sized gravel like at Petco for fish tanks but don't get the painted glowing garbage just natural rocks.
2.)Get a tiny Tupperware container like for a single sandwich, about 1 inch deep and about 5/6 inches length and width
3.) remove all the soil from the rhizomes of the plant and separate them if they're clumped together (honestly do this part when you buy them and replant them)
4.) put the rhizomes in the gravel and gently... GENTLY cover them.
5.) spray the gravel with the distilled water but don't soak it, if the Tupperware is like 1 inch deep the water should not really make a visible waterline. Just get the surface wet.
6.) put the lid on without any holes in it and pop em in the fridge. Even the back of the fridge is ok these things are used to freezing in the winter in their natural habitat in the USA. North Carolina.
The tips and green bits will die off and the rhizomes will literally sleep for 5 months. I usually do mine from October/November to February/March, every other year 🥰
In the spring they will come back and make beautiful huge flytraps
Best luck and happy napping 😋
Edit: and name it Kirby 😁 Venus Kirby

I was serial plant killer and now i have many different plants including carnivorous. I don't know what i'm doing good, but they are growing like crazy. I just keep them in shallow containers, fill containers with rain water, let water evaporate over few days, let them stay dry for ~2 days and repeat. Now, dormancy is tricky, because I was like "why are all my VFs dying". It took about month for them to slowly turn brown leaf by leaf, but then suddenly, they have just started growing new leafs.
And butterwort is so easy. They are crazy. They are growing new offshoots. They don't slow down after repotting. And they produce flower, after flower, after flower, non stop.

I'm sure plenty carnivorous plant owners have already mentioned their own dormancy experiences, but the most important part in my opinion is identifying the signs of dormancy in flytraps. (Drooping traps, as in the traps are much closer to the "ground" rather than upright, another sign is broad stems! Flytrap "stems" or the leaves, technically, become wider as dormancy begins. The purpose of this is to take in more light as they're accustomed to less in the winter)
Dormancy for flytraps put VERY simply, is less light, cooler temperatures, AND less water. Some people will even put flytraps in their fridge for dormancy- BUT! I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a spare, fairly empty fridge or cooler for it.
I've only done this myself because I have a mini drink cooler with a glass door that light can get through. Fridges typically could be risky due to humidity that could cause mold, so be cautious of that :)

THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME OTHER WISE SO I DONT HAVE A DEATH ON MY HANDS

Just don’t name it Seymour. That’s on the same grounds of naming a black cat like “Twilight” or “Salem”.

The best and worst thing about plants is that they will most likely outlive you. They will be with you your whole life, but you can’t die in peace knowing that your plants will be alone.

My rule of thumb is if the plant can’t handle how I water and sun it it wasn’t strong enough to be my houseplant. I also work at a grocery store so I get a lot of house plants sometimes.

I'm on both spectrums of plant owner. I figured out I can't keep cactus alive, no matter what I do, and I also have killed rose plants. I know I can grow about anything from a seed, I currently have a 6 year old lemon tree from a restaurant lemon.

Boiling hot water and or bleach down your kitchen sink for fung7s gnats.
Top planters with rocks, pebbles, and maybe sand. To prevent flies from laying eggs in the planters.

The flytraps on the flowerstock was a rare genetic mutation in flytraps and other plants called "reverse vivipary" which is a plant growing on the flower stock. This happens to me sometimes with my plants so yeah it Marty was happy but since root rot was inflicted on the poor thing it just succumbed to the root rot.

I got my own Venus fly trap a little while ago and I live in a pretty cold climate so I bought a climate controlled succulent pot with a grow light these are perfect for when your house doesn’t have a lot of sun I also had to feed it fish flakes because I couldn’t find any bugs and they can’t eat meat even though they’re called carnivorous it’s great to watch this video and learn more about my new little plant friend and it’s great that more people seem to be showing interest in these plants this video made me smile knowing there are more people who like carnivorous plants

Yo I still grow those! (Well mostly Nepenthes/pitcher plants) Try to give you're pitcher plant some extra humidity they like it, also pitcher plants like spagnum mos and perlite 50/50 more than peat. I've grown one from seed and another that is now worth $150 and someday will have pitchers over a foot long.

The home depot plants are no joke depressing. The plastic they come in usually focusses the heat inside to cook them >.
