    But it's great to find out how stupid atheists are, right?

      The problem is that he's setting this kind of scenario up as a ad hominem fallacy. It's not enough to simply hear someone casting aspersions, complaining or scorning another person. If they didn't actually put their complaint into an argument then draw a conclusion, then its just general bitching and not ad hom. But as you point out, side stepping criticism of Christian culture and its norms with a no true Scotsman fallacy is also dishonest.

    I have never heard an atheist say it was someone's fault for being atheist! Ever! I'm an atheist because I asked questions that no one could answer satisfactorily. Not one person could logically explain their theology to me and it made me question everything they said. I asked and asked and it seemed to me that adults believed what they did because most of the people in their life believed. It seemed that they had faith in magic and not reality and that was a massive red flag!

    • @fredg.sanford634
      @fredg.sanford634 Рік тому +2

      I became an atheist because 40+ years of unsuccessful attempts to square biblical magic with reality nearly drove me insane.
      I read the bible straight through 3 different times. KJV first and the RV-CE the other two times. I bought commentaries, took bible study classes, and celebrated mass at least 5 times per week. I actually went 7 days per week for nearly an entire year.
      I prayed my heart out. I begged to have my doubts taken away from me.
      I never had my prayers answered. When I was most exhausted, my rational mind asked me if I was done torturing myself. I replied in the affirmative.
      It wasn't easy to follow through, especially at first, because most of my friends were still devoted Xtians, too afraid to be around "Satan Spawn."
      Things got better slowly but steadily, though. I eventually knew inside that I had made the right decision by dumping the faith.
      I have deeply regretted wasting so many years trying to swallow it down. So much money too!

    Here's a thought...The less judgemental I became, the more I wanted to help people, the more I found time for people, the less I accepted what a good god, god was. It came to a head when I became a dad, and my overriding thought in all things became: What kind of a father would nail up their own kid?? Especially if I were an all powerful dad!

    • @BestAnimeFreak
      @BestAnimeFreak Рік тому

      The all powerful bit is actually the most important one.
      Because if it would be possible, that nailing your kid to a cross would somehow help the entire world (not superficial after they die and "if they believe it", but literally, actually, immediately and demonstrably after the deed has been done), then it would be a lot harder ... yet, a good father would still ask the kid for consent, instead of dismissing the wants of the child for "the greater good" ...
      Throwing all powerful into the mix and it immediately makes no sense anymore ... because the thing that would happen, with nailing the kid to a cross, could happen without that ... because that's what all powerful means ... if wanted, you can skip a lot of steps and immediately jump to the preferred outcome ...

    To Rick8or - I believe the image on this guy's Tshirt is of what is called a 'Dog Headed Saint", St Christopher, the patron St of Travellers was one, St. Guineford (?) was another. A lot of these early and somewhat obscure Christian Saints are pretty interesting, check out St. Elmo of St. Elmo's Fire fame for example.
    Some of these early saints and the Celtic ones in particular bear a striking resemblance to a lot of Tibetian yogis such as Milereapa, if folklore, myth and a bit of comparative religion is your thing. The British publication the "Fortean Times" - The Journal of Strange Phenomena did an article on dog headed saints that is worth a look if you are interested. Personally I am fascinated by this type of strangeness and when you start digging a bit it's almost limitless.
