The last time I saw Deftones, Chi Chang looked right at me, we were singing Cherry waves so hard and he looked like he was happy we knew the lyrics because the album had JUST came out. Incredible moment
I got to see them on this tour too at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa. he stood on the barricade leaning out over the crowd while security held his belt. fucking outstanding. #ripChi #deftonesrule
Considering this song is about Chi and Chino almost breaking the band up….. “There’s a hole in the earth…Im out” brings whole new meaning and explains the “I hate all my friends.” Deftones damn near broke up…the rest of the band pushed as this was the last song on the album…..and Chino wrote these lyrics in the most pain and turmoil he’d ever felt over the band. He thought it would be the last song they wrote together, so it was his farewell
I wish I could tell Chino directly how this song kept me from eating a bullet when I split from my ex. Strange as it is this album was my ultimate crutch. Forever love the deftones.
Saints Row II was actually my first introduction to Deftones with this song. I had never heard anyone sing quite like Chino and even as a kid it just captivated me every time I heard it on the game’s radio. Fast forward years later I was watching the movie Law Abiding Citizen and there’s a scene where Engine No.9 was playing and I had no idea what the song was so I looked it up and couldn’t believe that the same band that made THIS song made THAT one. Now here it is 2022 and I’ve listened to every Deftones album, even checked out B-Sides and Rarities, and had hoped to see them when they came to Philly for their tour. Fireal was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar, as well as Genesis (Still in the infancy stages of playing). I’ve grown a deep love for them and they’re still one of the most unique bands I’ve ever heard in my life.
This is my all time favorite song, I’m just so attached to it. I can’t explain it but whenever I listen to it, it just gives me the feeling that everything is going to be okay
The first time i've heard this song i cried, it gave me this feeling of the earth going to an end by a meteorite or something and the entire human race looking at the sky seeing it coming and accepting it, like "this is the end" and trascending in a way. I've never watched the video cause my connection with this song is so strong and in my head it means a lot of things that I think represents me. This is my favourite song of all time for various reasons, I think it's everything Nu-Metal can be, it's the evolution of that. I've always think that nu-metal could be something more, touch different emotions and be a step further from where it was. That changed the day I listened to this album.
The lyrics to this song we’re written during the time Deftones almost broke up. Chino wrote the lyrics thinking they would be the last with the band. “There’s a hole in the earth….I’m out,” we’re the last words he wrote for that album, and assumed would probably be the very last as the frontman to one of the best bands to ever exist. They were meant to be a farewell. Thank goodness cooler heads prevailed ❤

Same. Found it in a vinyl shop on vacation in Gatlinburg and my head told me to get White Pony. But my heart told me to get Wrist and I never regretted it.
Alright not that anyone cares but this song means so much to me. I remember being a teenager struggling with what I realise now was depression, but didn't realise at the time. I've always been good with words but whenever it comes to describing how I feel when I'm depressed I can't even string a sentence together. Just can't seem to articulate how I feel. But this song sums it up so perfectly ; there's a hole in the earth, I'm out. It's so simple but powerful. God I love Deftones.
It did the same for me as a kid.. I found out later in life that I have bipolar depressive disorder, and at the time that I was listening to this song frequently i had a bad opioid addiction. I'd eat a few percs, sit outside and watch the stars as this album played on repeat over and over.. all my worried melted away and I forgot about my depression while I'd be listening to this song. It honestly probably stopped me from doing some really stupid things. I got my BPD under control a couple of years ago and kicked the opioids about 10 years ago, and this song still nearly brings a tear to my eye.
This song was my childhood song since I’ve played Saints Row 2 and always will be my favourite song through out life👌🏼I’m thankful to have you Deaftones🙏🏼🤲🏼

Yesterday last night, I don’t remember much about my dream but the only thing that stuck with me was specifically this part of the song that played over and over. 2:53
I know what you mean… hearing a song in a dream playing over and over. Mostly happens to me all the time in good way. Most of the time, when I dream about “that” specific song, I wake up and I have to listen to it. It’s like mandatory thing for me. I feel happy, sad, and nostalgic. Lately, the song that was in my dream is called “Sunday by Winter”. Reminds me of October 2022.
I love the part where he says “I hates all of my friends” in the Apple Music version he only says it once I noticed the says the verse twice in the music video
One of the only bands that I can honestly say are putting out great music well after their 3&4th album. Hope they stay around for a long time and release at least 20 more albums!
I love Saturday Night Wrist as an album. It shows the band's more melodic, experimental, and slower stuff while also representing what the band was going through at the time. Especially with songs like this one and Rivierè.
I've always had a strange problem with my nervous system after a bad concussion. It's hard to orient in space because I don't feel the ground below me. This one hits home.
legitimately a staple of saints row, nothing compares to blowing through cities and past bridges in saints row 2 while listening to this song, the two just go together hand and hand.
This was the first song I ever heard from Deftones, and one of their most unique songs, I was truly impacted by how heavy and melodic a band can be back when I first saw the music video in 2006.
The first time I heard this song was the night of October 21, 2006.I didn’t know it then but this song would hold a specific and special meaning. That next morning, the 22nd, I’d pull up to my house after spending the night at a friends house only to be greeted with my whole entire family outside in the front yard waiting for me. My mom told me my sister Was in a fatal car wreck. I don’t remember much after on that day but looking back, It’s like Deftones knew I was going to need this song at that time. I know this song probably isn’t about losing someone but not only was there a hole in the Earth, there was also a hole in my heart.
wow i can't find the right words to describe how perfect their music sounds.! one moment i get blown away by the drumming, the next, my ears just melt and get lost in the rhythm of the guitar...and this one i love it all i gotta get me some instrumental tracks!
Larethio The Wolf I don't think it's particularly specific to any album by colplay. but every time he says "hole in the earth" it's like I can hear Chris martin saying the same way. i hope thts a good enough explanation
This song was stuck in my head Day 1 of boot camp long ago and I keep coming back to it and that's all I remember is laying in the rack as a recruit awaiting my new life
Just saw Deftones in ABQ, after 20 years lol it was the best concert. I was disappointed they didn’t play “you’ve seen the butcher” but overall a fucking blast.
When I close my eyes listening to this song in the dark with my headphones in it feels like I'm fading into non- existence Almost like having an out-of-body experience man that's why there music is so beautiful because it makes you ask yourself questions within yourself about who you are and where you went wrong in life with missed opportunities

Randall Dubin no, 1 yr ago today. too much hydro for you?
He's not dead
One of the only bands that I can honestly say are putting out great music well after their 3&4th album. Hope they stay around for a long time and release at least 20 more albums!
I love Saturday Night Wrist as an album. It shows the band's more melodic, experimental, and slower stuff while also representing what the band was going through at the time. Especially with songs like this one and Rivierè.
I've always had a strange problem with my nervous system after a bad concussion. It's hard to orient in space because I don't feel the ground below me. This one hits home.
This is so good but you must hear “Glory” or “The Wave” by SLT 🤘🎶🔥🎧🎸
Bro I hope your doing okay
deftones is a gift from god. im so glad to be alive at the same time as them (RIP Chi, miss you so much.)
legitimately a staple of saints row, nothing compares to blowing through cities and past bridges in saints row 2 while listening to this song, the two just go together hand and hand.
I love this song😎 and his voice ugh 😍😍😍😘
This was the first song I ever heard from Deftones, and one of their most unique songs, I was truly impacted by how heavy and melodic a band can be back when I first saw the music video in 2006.
Favorite song off the album
Groovy.
Off?

Those notes at 1:52 are magic. Chino on another level. Always has been. Love these dudes forever.

You should try 3:05 tho
he's not fat, he's full of emotion...
Precisely
Full of love
No way anton is talking abt emotions
Sup anton, u got some good taste, man u killin it
Then i'm also full of emotion :D
Gracias por existir " deftones" 🎶🎤
The first time I heard this song was the night of October 21, 2006.I didn’t know it then but this song would hold a specific and special meaning. That next morning, the 22nd, I’d pull up to my house after spending the night at a friends house only to be greeted with my whole entire family outside in the front yard waiting for me. My mom told me my sister Was in a fatal car wreck. I don’t remember much after on that day but looking back, It’s like Deftones knew I was going to need this song at that time. I know this song probably isn’t about losing someone but not only was there a hole in the Earth, there was also a hole in my heart.
that guitar at the end always leaves me in awe
Como amo a deftones 😿
First time I heard this song was on Saint's Row 2 GenX radio back in '08 😂 so good!
wow i can't find the right words to describe how perfect their music sounds.! one moment i get blown away by the drumming, the next, my ears just melt and get lost in the rhythm of the guitar...and this one i love it all i gotta get me some instrumental tracks!
This song can't be more perfect. Every time I hear it I find something new to love about it
I've ALWAYS loved this song!🌈I'm in a different world when Chino sings ❤😊💖
This probably was Deftones best album imo. Could really sense them evolving into something. Rest in piece Chi!
I love this song sm.
The talent in this band is off the charts wow! Love these guys
I get like an archaic coldplay sort of feel from this song AND I LOVE ITT
Less Than Three What album?
yup...i hear coldplay and a drop of the smiths....
Larethio The Wolf I don't think it's particularly specific to any album by colplay. but every time he says "hole in the earth" it's like I can hear Chris martin saying the same way. i hope thts a good enough explanation
“i hate all of my friends; they all lack taste sometimes” felt that too hard
This song was stuck in my head Day 1 of boot camp long ago and I keep coming back to it and that's all I remember is laying in the rack as a recruit awaiting my new life
One of many of my favorite bands
Weird how a song like this can be so comforting for me
This is so good but you must hear “ Glory” or “Seen/Unseen” by SLT 🎶🤘
Just saw Deftones in ABQ, after 20 years lol it was the best concert. I was disappointed they didn’t play “you’ve seen the butcher” but overall a fucking blast.
I love you've seen the butcher...
when you go to a bathroom in Eastern Europe- "Theres a Hole in the Earth"
I pomyśleć, ze osoby nie znające języka polskiego nie docenia doskonałości twojego nicku 😫
@@Joanna-nn2gw a dziękuję, szlachackie pochodzenie
damn this song is still so good
the "there's a hole in the earth" line is totally heartbreacking...
When I close my eyes listening to this song in the dark with my headphones in it feels like I'm fading into non- existence
Almost like having an out-of-body experience man that's why there music is so beautiful because it makes you ask yourself questions within yourself about who you are and where you went wrong in life with missed opportunities
When I listen to this song, it makes me acutely aware of the inevitability of death. And it makes it feel okay.
I feel that too
Wow that was the most deep comment I've ever read! Thank you for your time ☮️420 Deftones!
Vdd amigo❤
This is definitely a masterpiece.
I always thought this album felt apocalyptic. It fits really well in 2020.
It very much is. Between this and Rapture and Xerces.
This song, heck this album was when the band was about to break up. They had many problems dating back to self titled.

2023 now and forever
Fits even better here in 2023
that last riff was just letting everything out and finally coming to peace
Chi's bass in this song is awesome. I love songs where you can actually hear the bass. :)
An HD video uploaded in 2009? The Deftones really ARE ahead of their time. lol
+[thr33x gaming] maybe cuz youtube found 2005? the video came out on 2006? ;)
+[thr33x gaming] But it's not HD
+Nils neh UA-cam videos were all shit quality until about 2011/2012 iirc.
i’ve seen a 1080p video that was uploaded in 2007 lol
1:50 gives me some kind of chills I can't even explain
Such a beautiful song 😍
Underrated band.
