Deftones have always been the epitome of everything I ever wanted in music. Rage, beauty, depressing, soaring, joyful, nostalgic. I’ve listened to thousands of albums and hundreds of bands spanning all different kinds of genres. Deftones will always be my favorite band ever.

It hasn’t even been a year and I have lost my grandma today. She was the heart of the whole family. Words cannot describe how hurt I am. Over the summer of my dad’s passing I learned guitar and I played for my grandma all the time and her dying wish was for me to play Wicked Game by Chris Isaac next to her in the hospital room. I want to thank you all for the support just with the few words. This has been my support for the past 9-10 months. Pretty much every day I have seen a response and I have liked every one of them. I have no clue what my mom and I will do as of now but I hope something will happen that will save us. At least I know my grandma and dad will be together somewhere and they are looking over me till the day I die. They were both stubborn to leave like the Scorpios they are 💙

I’m sorry about your loss. I lost my son 10 months ago he was 24 years old and his birthday is 7-2 so you can imagine how I feel. This was one of his favorite band . I pray the lord to forgive my baby and bless his soul. I will pray for you. I accept God’s will and he will give us peace you will see.

Been a fan since 1997. I'm 47 and bought this album the week it was released. Baffles me that it's 17 years old already when it still feels so new to me. Not my favourite Deftones album overall , but it sure has some great individual tracks on it, this being one of them. Just can't believe how quick the time has passed since 2000. The moral of this is to the younger fans. Appreciate your late teens to late twenties because once you get to your late 20's time really flies. Pink Floyd were so right when they said "And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you, no-one told you when to run. You missed the starting gun". Peace and love to you all :)
"Baffles me that it's 17 years old already when it still feels so new to me" I think it's because this song wasn't overplayed to death on the radio at the time, like some other big hits. There are many great classic tunes which I totally respect but just can't stomach to listen really because of how overplayed they were/are. Sometimes not being very popular is a kind of a blessing for a song in the long term

"Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom, medicine, commerce, handcrafts, poetry, the arts in general, and later, war. In many ways similar to Greek goddess Athena." Considering this and examining the lyrics leads me to believe this song is about a great battle (Possibly even The Battle Of Carthage where Rome finally ended The Punic Wars because the setting of this video is a desert) that has just been finished and the goddess of war is singing "it's over" and soldier's falling to there knee's in relief of surviving this battle. That's my idea for the meaning behind Minerva.
The song is about being captivated by the beauty of women and the soothing quality their voice has. That's why the title of the song is "Minerva".

Why are they SO good? Been a fan since '97 and I just turned 40 last month. When I was 15, I remember walking my girlfriend home quite often and then walking the next 15 minutes back to my house (we couldn't really hang out together past like, 9pm.. "parent rules").. I would play Around the Fur in my cd walkman (anti skip).. it was Christmas time and there were lights everywhere. I'll never forget walking home those nights.. in love.. first love.. feeling those new experiences and thinking you had it all figured out..

When Around the Fur came out I was in 11th grade. I would listen to that album every day on the way to school and that album started a long love affair with Deftones. There is definitely something magical about those moments in youth and the music that was the soundtrack to those days. Deftones was a big part of that for me.

There is something almost orchestral about this song. The way Chino weaves the melody around the glacial guitar and gargantuan groove. Light and shade have always been at the heart of Deftones. No better example than this. A great place to start for those new to this truly unique band.

i always have similar thoughts when listening to Deftones
I was 17 and was so underwhellmed when this album came out, but as a major fan i stil listened to it every day. Now years past and it hits on another level. Life is very strange. First time in history the future is dawning with unknown on every single of us, and all generations are united in the era of lucid nostalgia, empowerment and emotional chaos. Their music has carried me through and im glad to be alive in this moment in universal timeline. Have a great day everyone.

Deftones is the best band ever! THEY are the reason why I'm a musician, THEY are the reason why I make music and THEY are the reason why my music tastes started to become diverse as the years go by.
Deftones are basically in the same league as Tool and Korn (two other favourite bands of mine), but Deftones is my biggest influence as a musician.

I first found this song as a kid many many years ago, it's always stuck with me, grew with it and it with me, I've had so many experiences I can relate to this song, I don't know what exactly it is about it but it never fails to stir an emotion in me that I can't quite explain, I'm grateful I found it, and that it exists to begin with
My son's late father looks EXACTLY like Chino Marino. Even danced like him. He was a big Deftones fan. This song reminds me of him so much. Coincidentally, Chino is walking in the sand drifts, my son's dad passed away when his car got stuck in the desert so he decided to walk for help. Sun came up & temps were 110°F. The song keeps saying numb...he sadly, had been depressed & fell back into cocaine. His heart couldn't take it. He died alone in that desert. 😢 I'll always love him. He holds a very special place in my ❤. Our son looks just like him. 😢
There's a big beautiful statue of Minerva (Goddess of war and wisdom) in my hometown Guadalajara, México and this song always reminds me of it. This name is awesome like the song!

Definitely look into Deftones' other stuff. They range from heavier stuff to really ethereal, soft stuff like this. If you prefer the softer stuff, their 2016 album -- Gore -- may be the one you like the most.

One day as I was in a Hard Rock Cafe in London on a school trip my senior year of high school, I recognized a familiar song that for some reason I knew what it was even though I haven’t heard it in years. I swore it was on NHL ‘04, a game I played relentlessly on the PS2 during my childhood. Sure enough, I found the track list and Minerva was it. This spurred my interest in Deftones, and 4 years later this band has become a central part of my life. I have developed such a deep love for this band since that day. I’ve shared moments of deep sadness and pure joy and everything in between with this music, and to realize that if I never heard that one song in Hard Rock Cafe I would’ve never known how beautiful this band is. I’m eternally grateful for Deftones. No piece of music stands the test of time like their’s does. It’s truly one of a kind. Fly high Chi you and your buddies have made an impact like no other on so many people.
