Saturday night wrist probably has Chino's most beautiful vocals. "Beware", "cherry waves", "xerces", "kimdracula", "reverie", etc

100% agree...Some of the most underrated songs for sure! Especially "Kimdracula" - one of their best!

Abe Cunningham is one of the most underrated drummers of all time. Huge influence on my playing :)
I'd say Limp Bizkits drummer is more underrated. Abe has been getting his roses as of late. Deftones are influential to other bands across the board. People don't like to admit Limp really went in the first two albums. Drummer is unique.
@@kevincollins8620 absolutely agree. John Otto is one of the most underrated drummers of all time. Beats so tight and precise. Him and Abe have been the most influential to my drumming style. They are both absolutely amazing, but have two very different styles of playing
@@phoenixwright9105 underrated is overused lately. Abe is about as underrated as "The Rev". Or Pat Wilson. Or Stewart Copeland. I rarely if ever see Otto mentioned. All the names I've named I can find and play along with their groove. Now all my fellow drummers that have never played along with John... try Rollin. It's fun... but damn near impossible to do clean without breaking it all down to his nuances.

3:30 when I hit my pinky toe on the edge of a table
The notes that Chino hits in the studio version are absolutely insane. Give the man a break! He was playing the guitar while trying to hit those notes. Fucking love this song. I wish they would play more songs off of Saturday Night Wrist live.
Note: seen them in Chicago last month and they played "Beware" ! It was fucking sic.

Kimdracula is my absolute favorite from SNW. Rats!Rats!Rats! is next, the last minute of that song is insane.
Boxcar8008 he's an unconventional singer. He's never had good technique, he just does it his way. Consequently he's not always consistent. That being said, he crushed it when I saw them a couple summers ago. Perfect set that night!
Studio version is autotuned to *fuck*. Still a good song though.
I think chinos always pushing himself to give the best performance and blows his voice out, however that almost matches his normal way of singing it's pretty genius that he's always had a kind of off sound that matches his voice when its blown out.

@@v1ncent426 he was in a serious car accident and was severely injured. Those injuries eventually led to his death. Part of the reason his injuries were so major was that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Don't know why people are hating on this, Chino still does a wonderful job in spite of those "I hate all ...", that clean voice is something else and it's rare to hear it sound this good (reverb or not), at least on what I've seen of their performances on yt. + Love Abe's drumming indeed, and all the rest.
Somehow even when he sings raw like this with hardly any effects and EVEN when he gets pitchy at 3:31 it still sounds GREAT! I love Deftones.

It has to do with the pressure the band was putting on him (attack) to finish the album (snw) or they were going to disband. Chi said this in an interview. In his own words. (He comes to the studio, gets in the booth the next day after our talk and starts this "i hate all my friends bullshit." You can say i hate chi cheng for fuck sakes. Just finish the fucking album already." If it sounds like "lactate" (as everyone jokes about) then where does the "s" from taste come in to play?

I saw Deftones last year in May and Chino lost tons of weight since this performance. I really really love these guys, I feel like I grew up with them
His voice gives me the shivers, ughhh I love this band so much.
This really makes me want to play Saint Row 2 again and just drive around kneecapping people on the sidewalk while cops look on apathetically.
Hell yeah man, Saints Row 2 had an awesome soundtrack. Great game, too. I always had this song in my custom playlist on there, mind was blown that they had good enough taste to include Deftones on there. I think Saints 3 had another Deftones track as well, "Diamond Eyes" I think.

I can’t imagine how difficult it is to play the guitar, move around, yell the lyrics AND SOMEHOW manage to hit the notes perfectly to sound exactly like the studio version!! Not to mention Chino has been the lead singer in this band the entirety of their 30+ year career so his vocal chords have gone through the works and he’s still super talented!
Got to see them in Atlanta for this tour. Spectacular performance and the last time I got to see Chi on stage.
I was in 6th grade when this album was out. My brother bought it for me and i listened to this song every day all day on my walk men CD player.

I really liked this era of Deftones.
may not hit all his notes to his own "bloody" songs and neither did bob dylan, but he makes some amazing music to play along with and all of his shytt is easy and fun to sing along with.. i listen to deftones everyday! because i relate to the raw emotion this band has!! they are all about just making good music.. not showing off or trying to be better than the other bands.. rock and roll aint no competition!!

Ice Kold Killa Ive seen him hit the notes before maybe not perfect but damn close. The Saturday night wrist era was my favorite days of this band.

It is. And unlike some say… he used to be able to hit clean notes at the very top of his range. He lost the ability to do so around the time “White Pony” dropped, coincidentally he began to sing much more on that album… before he screamed a lot and had to hit like a few high clean notes every now and then… on white pony he had to belt cleans so much more… and probably due to lack of technique he kinda lost his voice. I think he had vocal fold paralysis or something. Also drinking, drugs and neglecting his health overall kinda messed him up big time… he brought it up in an interview. With that being said his stuff is not that easy to sing. Very dynamic… it’s never a straight line with this guy!

its really hard for some guys to go that high pitched and I dont think his voice was ready for this day that he played. other than the chorus's he did great on his vibrato singing through his diaphram when he sings can you explain to me- ( HOW- 0:57 ) was great! and when he sings can you explain to me-(NOW 1:50 ) its really good. those 2 parts.
I love that bands like Deftones are big enough to play on tv and stuff. The 90s was a hell of a decade for music, even if I don't like a lot of it!
