  • In this video, I share my basketball journey-from getting cut every year in middle and high school to playing competitive basketball at a Division 1 school. It's a story of hard work, passion, and perseverance.
    Special thanks to my mom for always believing in me.

    i started playing basketball 2 years ago when i was 14. I never felt a passion for something till i started playing. I got cut my freshman year cus I was really bad ngl. I kept working trough the school year and summer and I was pretty sure I was making jv , but ... I got cut again. Even though I felt like shit I didnt give up and now into my junior year I feel Im in my best level. I practiced every day this summer and I believe in me. Even though I trust all the work I putted I started getting anxious the past 3 days cause scoool starts in 2 days and Im lowkey scared of getting cut again. Randomly your video appear and I just want to say thankyou for this great video. You made me realize that I should just keep working no matter what happens and that I shouldnt take tryouts that deep. Thanks for this great video and good luck in whatever you decide to do in a future.

    This is probably the most inspiring thing that I've ever heard. In baseball, stuff like this is not expected, but actually very possible as a pitcher (literally just have nasty stuff, and it's projectable). But in basketball I imagine, you need to be in the top 60 of your graduating class (roughly) to even have a shot at the league, and the skills are much less objective. Congratulations! You really earned it

    I also played club volleyball for my college, it was under NIRSA, I got to experience playing at Nationals with over a 100 teams. I remember the talk of the tournament was that U of Arizona had a booster fund of over $100k and one of their players also played for the National B or C team. It takes a special type of person to not get bitter and to keep on working. Great job! Side note, it sounds like the school coaches missed out. Sometimes coaches get locked in on their opinion of a player and can never get past it no matter what. Sadly alot of coaches have egos and cant admit a mistake.

I don’t buy oakleys, don’t wear chains, don’t get expensive gloves, don’t wear sliding mitts, worn the same pair of pants since Little league, got a baseball bag everyone made fun of. I genuinely thought about quitting after I made a club team, because I had a bad tournament. My parents helped through it, and I tried to get better. Since then I have started for that club team, made the school team both years of my middle school journey, and in my second year rn I am currently the team captain and starting Catcher/3rd baseman.

    THE GREATEST COMEBACK STORY OF ALL TIME!

  • @Preston10118
    @Preston10118 6 місяців тому +15

    hey man I hope your career takes off! I'm 14 going into my freshman year but I'm homeschooled I would say I've always been pretty athletic and I played a lot of sports and my older brothers were the exact same way but when I was 11 I started playing basketball I was really good at getting steals rebounds and blocks but horrible at everything else. The next year I played for the same league my brothers all played in and it went the same way as the year as before. Then comes around 8th grade and I'm playing for that same league and the other kids on the team are all a lot better and experienced and I didn't get that much playing time. I felt horrible because everyone else talked down against my game and they were right. At this point I wasn't taking it very serious but I don't know what happened but something came alive inside and I really started to have a genuine love for the game. For my league we have two tournaments towards the end of the season and my cousin was over and I practiced so much and I was really getting better because my offense was horrible at this time and I couldn't shoot to save my life but I started making mid range shots in games and one of the defining moments was when I got put in for the last like 8 seconds of this one game and my friend tells me I'm bringing up the ball and when I got it I booked it and went through every defender and got the layup. We didn't win from that but I realized how good I could be and how much I wanted to improve and this summer I've worked so much at least an hour and a half to 2 and a half hours a day. I work on my handles shooting form and moves around the rim, and I've improved so much I went back and watched the videos of my team playing and played against those same people and I'm just as good if not better then all of them I'm not gonna stop working I'm not gonna give up no matter how discouraged I get. I know what I have to work on and I've definitely got to gain some muscle mass and weight I'm 5'10 and about 130 lbs so I'm pretty skinny. Please don't stop working and making videos bro I believe in you and this video meant a lot to me and I'm gonna keep up the heat and I know you will too! I Hope you will post some of you games good or bad! take care man!

    I was a practice squad member in my sophomore year I barely made it, and I was barely good, I could dribble with only my left hand and I was a decent 3pt shooter, but I couldn't dribble with my right hand which made it all the harder. I wasn't struggling academically as a maintained a solid 4.1 gpa, so that was fine, and I only had to worry about skill. so I used that whole szn to level up my skills, and I worked my ass off, then came junior year, I became a lot better, I could learn to dribble with my right hand now, but even so, last year was a fluke that I made it in, so I didn't have high hopes for junior year, and to no suprise, I was right, I didn't make it, it made me upset, but it even motivated me and made me want to work harder, so I signed up for recreation and aau teams, I started to work out and put on muscle, I did basketball training regimens in order to be the best I am, so I did that the whole school year, and even when summer break started, I still pushed past my limits and worked even harder and longer since I no longer had school to worry about. And holy hell was it tough, there were times where I was like "shit, I should quit and forget it", but I didn't, and I just went at it. Now, I've became significantly better, I now built a better physical frame, I increased my durability and stamina, I added new bags to my movset, I improved on my handling as well as my defensive game, and my school starts tommorow. Now the tryouts don't begin till september, so I sitll have a whole month to train, but rn. I am proud of what I have done and I have high hopes that I will make the team.

    Sup Johnny. As you can see by my pfp I'm your traditional hockey player but I've since turned to basketball ever since grade 9. Your story resonates with me so much man and it's great to see a random underdog story pop up. I unfortunately had a similar path to you throughout my high school basketball career. Great spot up shooter, decent defender, decent handle and playmaking ability and great strong hand finish but just wasn't enough to convince the coaches. Lots of people said I got snubbed and I just went with it as I began to hear that most people started quitted the team and the team itself would lose by 30 each game💀. Obviously that helped my mental knowing that my difference had an impact and I began to do what you did. Get better at ball. Now (just finished my freshman year at university), I can confidently say I hold my own against the best of that high school team and even better than them depending on the teams during open runs simply because any nervousness and pressure is gone. Will definitely consider playing men's league moving forward while balancing my studies in kinesiology! Anyways, awesome video man! Love from Canada🍁

    D1 implies you played for the college team, but you played for the club team correct? Which is good, no doubt, but its not D1. Great story about sticking with it. HS team sports are tough since the coach has to balance being good every year so you have to blend players. Then the coach is going to pick guys who showed they can play at lower levels. There was a kid at our local HS was 6' tall who dominated HS games, he could elevate and get his shot off over anyone. I saw games where the other team had 10 really good players and he would dominate. When I watched him, I use to think, if there was anyone who was a sure thing, it was him. He got hurt, played prep and I don't know if he got picked up. Making it to D1 sports is almost impossible since you are competing with kids around the world now for scholarships. There's a movie titled 1000 to 1 and its about a really good HS player who went to play in college. Cool story.

    Good for you!!! My son was similar. He made the team each year but rarely played. He was a top 3 guy but the coaches didn't "like" him and it was all so political. He began practicing with the local college team his sophomore year of high school and kept playing high school basketball. In the end, he played very little in high school but will be on scholarship this fall as a college freshman. College coach sees a lot of potential and cannot understand why he didn't play more in high school. Just gotta put the work in. Embrace the grind.

    Sometimes it's all about who you know. Everything happens for a reason. Think about it: you could've made those high school teams, only to be ignored by college scouts, who would deem you a One or Two Star prospect. Then you go to other leagues and outhustle the same players who got picked above you. If you have game film, connections, and keep playing, then you still belong. Your persistence will help you overcome a lot of obstacles.

    Thanks for sharing the story about ur basketball journey. I started basketball at 11, played in 8th grade and some aau leagues, then got cut from JV in 9th and 10th grade. I'm currently a sophomore in high school, playing on a competitive AAU 17U team. Do you think i can make it to a d2/d3 college level if I played AAU without school ball. Also loved your story so much, so inspirational!! From my story as well as your story, failure is a valuable source which teaches our minds how to be resillient, and eventually making it.

My journey and story is about overcoming the odds after getting cut from middle and high school teams, so making it to play at the college level has been a huge personal win. I appreciate the support and feedback-hope you still enjoy the video!

    I feel you I'm 15. I'm still trying to get my first dunk my journey as a basketball player is pretty much the same issue I play for McEwen high school in Tennessee. I'm a freshman this year and it is really hard but l'm keeping at it. I'm so close to everything but can't grab it, and it seems like no matter how much work it doesn't work l've worked hard than everybody on my middle school team and I said the bench my eighth grade here, but I did make the high school team But I sent the bench On JV Even though I know I'm better than most of those guys I still sit the bench It's crazy. My dream is to play college basketball. I look up to you. Thank you so much.

      In my town there was like a clique of parents/students with some of the sports, and basketball was one of them. A few players who were really good and better than some of the guys on the team wouldn’t make it. That made the club leagues more fun, but it was just odd how it wasn’t a meritocracy for a few particular sports including basketball.

But i left basketball for 3 years and i am thinking of coming back this year (turning 18 in 2 months). My form is a lot better and my shot accuracy is better. What do you think about coming back? Is there still a chance for somewhat of a career? (From serbia btw)
