One of my favorite lines from a year and half is when they're giving Jason crap for taking sandwiches to eat later despite having millions of dollars and he replied, "I have plans for those millions, and it ain't for fucking sandwiches." Glad to see he's kept that attitude.
That’s right! And he also said at that time that he’d like to get himself a country spread , a bunch of acres and a place to call his own and that’s exactly what he has now. Glad he’s able to enjoy the fruits of his hard earned labor. Good on him.
Only thing better than that quote, which I love. is Kirks' response to that saying "Yeah, He's gonna be the slum lord of Walnut Creek!" The town I grew up in the Bay Area! I lost my shit. Btw A few years later I delivered pizza to Jason's house and he was so effing nice! Love that memory to this day! Long Live Metallica! 🤘
Can we talk about what a great interview journalist Steffan is? Obviously he's been connected to the band for a VERY long time. But he's so well spoken and his questions are on point. No generic bland open ended questions... very well thought out intrigue to get the best from Jason whos always a fantastic interview. Jason never is at a loss for words or great insight into Metallica from a fans point of view. These 4 episodes have been amazing.
So Genuine, so sincere. I could listen to Jason talk for many hours. You could see he felt so bad for James when he got hurt. I could just feel it the way he described it. And so victorious for James to bounce back in such little time. A true warrior. Thanks so much Jason !!! You ROCK brother !!!! \,,/..\,,/
Hope to see more content of this style posted on the official Metallica channel. Super interesting interview. Jason was such a huge part of Metallica's live performance. I really hope before they call it quits they do some live shows with him, they've never been able to replace the amazing backing vocals he contributed.
it's so good to see Jason around again, after so long of radio silence from him. For good reason of course, so im glad he's stepped up on his own time and terms. It's good to hear him talk too. Just a genuine guy overall. Thank you, Metallica. Thank you, Jason.
The best 4 part series of the year so far.thank you jason for being there at that time to make history with 3 other legend's.iv been there from near enough the start with metallica.and u will always be apart of my life aswell as the others.🤘🤘
Loved all of this! I would love a detailed interview on the Load/Reload era. After the universe that was the Black Album and it’s tour, how did the band deal with the change of direction and all that came with it. Love Jason and am always sad that I didn’t get to see him with his Newsted band in Australia. My Friend Of Misery is still my favourite Black Album Song!!!!!
No shade toward Rob, but how is Jason not in the band?? All these years later and he STILL has their back. This dude was so integral to Metallica it’s not even funny. And somehow he proves to STILL have the bands best interest at heart. Incredible.
So awesome Jason is growing his hair out!!! I absolutely miss Jason in the band! The age I am when I got into Metallica was the self titled album so for me he WAS the original bass player then I learned about Cliff and what had happened, then got into Cliff em all and Cliff, I remember watching a binge and purge video going into my bathroom and shaving my hair underneath like Jason🤘 he was a huge reason I play bass to this day!! I was so bummed when Jason left
MetallicA is not just a Band, it's a lifestyle, "It's Raining, WE ARE going to Play!" " I got burned, Your playing guitar, I'm Singing!" This is why I LOVE MetallicA and Always Will !
Wow, what a wonderful interview!!! Steffan, you asked amazing questions and thank you for documenting MetallicA for us for decades now. Jason is such a fan of everything. And imagine being such a huge fan of MetallicA like us and then being part of that machine???? Listening how excitedly Jason was talking about MetallicA made me think I am in a multiverse, sooo unbelievably amazing🤘😈🤘
Great interview. Great questions and answers. Probably the most deep thinking intelligent guy in the band. If he did not get the spot in the band they would never have survived.
Ready for parts 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 now. Newsted I have been a huge fan of yours since I was 13, which is 33 yrs ago.. You are truly genuine, your integrity is amazing you make this Michigander proud. We old school fans miss you! Thank you for being real!🤘🎸🤘
Just a fascinating interview, really fun and great to hear from Newsted, seems like such an introspective guy, nice to see him relive and really enjoy that experience. All the best to Mr Newsted.
It has been an incredible and fun interview. I grew up listening to metallica's music in the 90s and I wanted to be like Jason Newsted, shake my head and look like a maniac, thanks for sharing this material, I really miss Jason Newsted in Metallica!!! he was the soul of the band in live performances!!
I remember going to the Jason shows. San Diego sports arena. The LA coliseum haven't done any Metallica shows since. Roberts great suicidal tendencies infectious grooves. All bands think they're the reason but they're wrong. The songs are like family the band was the only thing I had when I was a teenager it's not the same no matter how big of ego they have
Tough life like my friend Brian whom upon returning from boys camp introduced me to Metallica. Days of the boom box. He would excitedly as xmas toys to open say "Ohh Kent you have to listen to this part!" I didn't get Metallica back then Garage Days, Moms getting raped killed your baby today was shit to me......NOISE...I asked him WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU IN REFORM SCHOOL.....Nooo Kent you have to listen.....so excited to share with me what I did not know yet. Fade To Black was his song that pulled him through and I bet you too. Peace.
Black Album DVD Jason picks up food from Roadies food table. James "what are you doing?" Jason replies "Saving on room service, I want to buy a farm one day"! 👊 Grounded and level headed✌️🤘🏴🇦🇺
Despite being a hero to the bassist guitar player community and showing the audience that he can play other instruments and enjoy all kinds of music in a way that makes him look like a god .... he is still down to earth and is responsible to the company he keeps during his interviews....😉
Met Newsted the day of one of their shows in ‘92. Being the teenaged mega-Metallica fan that I was I was almost too nervous to even make eye contact with him let alone speak to him. He was a complete down to earth guy and gave us about 20 minute of his time to shoot the breeze.
This was fantastic! Love Jason so much. I feel like Jason was the solid rock for everybody else to hold on to during the 90's. I really miss him in Metallica. Rob is great, but if Metallica ever needs a new bassplayer, Jason needs to come back. What the hell, he should just join now and do the backing vocals.
Thank you for this interview! Always great to see Jason. Sadly there is no Maiden-sollution to have two bass-players in one band 😉 Wish you all the best, Jason. I will hear your Newsted-Album forever 🤘
Don't give me wrong, I LOVE Jason. When I met him in 1991 (backstage), he was the nicest and most affable member of the band; BY FAR. And he accomplished a lot with F&J before he was even in Metallica. But, Cliff was the foundation for the band and was never to be replaced (truly). Jason was obviously mistreated and not appreciated by the band as he should have been. And as much as I love Rob, and respect his playing, acumen, and abilities, he really is a 'filler' member (imo). My point is, all of them played a certain role which was needed for the time. All of them were real Metallica bass players.
*And Justice for Newsted!*
LOL He seems like a good Dude!!
Great comment...!!!

Wow... that sentence is killing... I never see it before. Big fan of Jason here.
Thought of that too. He's such a great guy, real role model.
In his words, he still has that pickup truck!
Only thing better than that quote, which I love. is Kirks' response to that saying "Yeah, He's gonna be the slum lord of Walnut Creek!" The town I grew up in the Bay Area! I lost my shit. Jason is a rad guy. Great to see him looking happy and healthy. His presence in the band is dearly missed.
So great to hear and see Jason talk. I will always miss him in Metallica but its really great to see him alive and well.
Jason seems so humble, he seems to be happy with his life and I wish nothing but the best for him
That is right.... Nothing but the best for him
Hear that James? Jason respected you a lot! “The person who I respected the most, disrespected me the most.” - Jason Newsted
That hurt so much. The turning on him.
@@kentkearney6623 yup
You do realize that James apologized to him for that right?
Jason is my favorite member.

Thanks for putting this together. Jason is such a genuine dude. I could sit and listen to his stories all day.
Jason is always very candid, I really wish he were still in the band.
So hard not to like Jason…such an honest and great dude…
MY childhood hero! Started doing music thanks to him, so good to hear him 🙏🏻❤️
So Genuine, so sincere. I could listen to Jason talk for many hours. You could see he felt so bad for James when he got hurt. I could just feel it the way he described it. And so victorious for James to bounce back in such little time. A true warrior.

Agreed 100%!
👍
Jason is an icon. This was an awesome interview. Thanks for posting!
I see Jason and like the video lol. And justice for all deserves a real remix with audible bass tracks by Jason. Glad to see him regardless.
I still miss him in Metallica. It's such a different band with Rob, imo. But at the same time it's great that he left a huge legacy.
Jason, we loves you!
Jasonic ... somehow , from time to time .... We need you back in our lives ,,,,, Respect . ✊🏿💀👍🏿
Never forget! Jason was a Huge part of Metallica success.
it's so good to see Jason around again, after so long of radio silence from him. For good reason of course, so im glad he's stepped up on his own time and terms. It's good to hear him talk too. Just a genuine guy overall. Thank you, Metallica. Thank you, Jason.

Jason rules !
Id love to see Jason back on stage with the band even if it's just a show or two.
PART 4!!!! YES!!!! Love Jason. Love Metallica!
I have always liked Jason I thought he was excellent playing with Metallica, this was an awesome interview. Good luck Jason. 👍✌️
These interviews with Jason are fantastic. He describes things so well.
Been here since Jason joined, still here now, enjoying/appreciating everything he still gifts the Metallica family. Thank you, Jason. 🙏🏻💪🏻🤘🏻❤️🏁
We want more of this & deserve it.
Jason is such a great story teller, let's go deep into the Load&Reload era
Loved all of this! I would love a detailed interview on the Load/Reload era. I miss this guy in Metallica so much. He was and still is an incredible force

So cool to see he is so positive about his time w Metallica and not some bitter ex. Miss him live
Jason is awesome. :)
What a great interview and story. Best metal band ever!!!
Great interview. Great questions and answers. Probably the most deep thinking intelligent guy in the band. If he did not get the spot in the band they would never have survived.
Jason you are the man and you carried Metallica on your shoulders when they needed you most.
Much respect 🤘🏽👊🏽
what an absolute champion , tells it like it is !! A lot of people could learn a thing or two from this bloke !!
And more
What a great interview!
Great interview. Fantastic! Thank you Steffan and Jasonic! Would love to watch another interview about the Load/Reload, era.
I could watch these all day long
Man I wish Jason would do a podcast, I could listen to him talk all day
Check out his episode on Let There Be Talk w Dean Del Ray.
I'm not a huge Metallica fan but I love listening to Jason Newsted. Great interview.

Great interview. Love and miss Jason
I love his story telling
Jason was the best BASS player and person in Metallica
I mean he was the only bass player lol but if you mean all time, nah. Cliff
Really enjoyed all parts of this interview 🤘
Black Album DVD Jason picks up food from Roadies food table. James "what are you doing?" Jason replies "Saving on room service, I want to buy a farm one day"! 👊 Grounded and level headed✌️🤘🏴🇦🇺
Really, really great interview! One of the best in 30 years. Thanks Jason for carrying the weight during that time. Well done Steffan.
Eu amo esse cara!Volta para o metallica Jason Newsted
Thank you JASON 🤘🤘🤘
What a nice and down to earth person he is.
Thank you Jason!
Despite being a hero to the bassist guitar player community and showing the audience that he can play other instruments and enjoy all kinds of music in a way that makes him look like a god .... he is still down to earth and is responsible to the company he keeps during his interviews....😉
Much like the Rock is the "people's champion" There is no doubt in my mind, that Jason is the people's musician! Way more than a bass player.
Because he was a fan like the rest of us before he joined the band. He was one of us.
@@FlipGuitarist80 Absolutely
what a great guy, I love J and you can tell he really loves Metallica and its members. My Metallica is with J.
Great interview! We love you Jason!
You're the best thing that could ever happen to Metallica after they lost Cliff!
MOPAR !! HELL YES !! Always knew Jason was cool and still is !!
Great !!!
and thanks again to Metallica and Jason for this....I could listen to Jason speak about his passions for music for hours!!
Jason is a legend!

Victorious, that's it!
Thank you!
Yay, Jason!! 🤟
Thank you for this amazing interview.
Jason that gave me massive goosebumps to hear you lifting up Hetfield as heroic from the accident. Thanks man 🖤👊
Love Jason, fuck yea!
Thank you Jason for beeing Jason.
Glad to see Jason
Thank you for this interview! Always great to see Jason. Sadly there is no Maiden-sollution to have two bass-players in one band 😉 Wish you all the best, Jason. I will hear your Newsted-Album forever 🤘
Brilliant interview, great questions Steffan, and Jason, so interesting to listen to, honest, funny and a class act
Miss him soooo much!
Absolutely fantastic! Many thanks,
Bravo, what a great interview with the man.............. Jason 'metal' Newsted.
Jason has a minimal ego, nothing compared to you know who... incredibly grounded man.
Awesome Awesome interview. I'm definitely feeling good right now as well. Brought back so many fantastic memories of such a brilliant time.
What a great interview! I don't know who the interviewer is but he's got a brilliant style. Jasons a legend.
"I've got plans for those millions, and it ain't for fuckin sandwiches..."
And Justice for Jason!!
🇧🇷
As awesome as Jason is, the interviewer did a great job.. outstanding!!
Extraño a Jason, saludos desde Colombia
tks JASON!
Respect to Cliff and Rob but Jason Newsted is THE REAL METALLICA BASS PLAYER.
Don't give me wrong, I LOVE Jason. When I met him in 1991 (backstage), he was the nicest and most affable member of the band; BY FAR. Jason was always really down-to-earth guy.
Jason is the man!!
