      Yeah, and the funny thing is the bands that get credit for “ always doing real metal” never get their later albums talked about. It’s not like slayer or Megadeth have ever been rewarded for not putting out an album like the black album. You ever hear anyone really talk about their albums after the mid 90s at all? Nope.

    Traditionally the older you are the more admired and respected you become. That changed in the US the last 50 years for a variety of reasons. It’s refreshing to hear James say “I’m not ashamed of my hair being white and being 50 something. I earned that.” Exactly.

      @@kskip4242 they still make good music, not like in their prime, but they are fine. James is a legend. It comes down to preferences, enjoy whatever you like. They are not great, they are the best for many when all considered.

      @@kskip4242 Obviously, you didn't listen to a word James had to say in this interview/ video, did you? He DIDN'T say they "think they're still some great heavy metal band". No, he did not. That's your own delusional mind creating what YOU think they should be. And then, it's the reality that they aren't exactly what your delusional mind told you to expect. They were known for being one of the greatest heavy metal bands. They're in their 50's now, and as always are still a band that likes to play music that they want to hear. He clearly says ( and always has) "We're not going to (or trying to) please every person on the planet.". They just do what they want to do, play what they want to play, just like they always have.
      Now, they HAVE BEEN one of the greatest heavy metal bands, and during that time, they made some great heavy metal. They still play those songs...and still can as long as they want to play them. That doesn't mean " they still think they're some great heavy metal band" as you claim.
      It seems to me that you are younger and missed out on the time when they were a great heavy metal band. So you're just jealous of those who are older than you, like myself, that were there to witness it and live in it. They ARE still a great band though. They STILL are selling out stadiums shows all over the world...and guess what... They DO still play some great heavy metal at them. So keep picking your nose and flicking up your chin at them in disappointment if you want to, while you sit there at your computer keyboard in your bedroom at your mom's house. Keep typing about how you think they aren't living up to your expectations or watch and listen on your computer. Or go to a show when they come to whatever town you live in. Which ever you choose, watch and listen to whatever they want to play or record at the time they record it. If you like it, great. If you don't, too bad. You can turn off your device or walk out of the show. But don't get all pissy because they didn't meet your delusional expectations. They weren't trying to please you in the first place, little boy.
      Now go pour yourself a glass of milk, drink it before you go to bed & get back to your dreams of Metallica being whatever you want them to be.

You write what you want to, what you will enjoy, singing, and playing… And your enthusiasm about the music will make others enthusiastic about it. So many people try to write what’s popular on the radio now in hopes of hitting popularity charts… That have nothing to do with the music itself. Very much agree, but I’ll always be a Metallica supporter!! Even though, to me, their earlier stuff was absolutely incredible I support the changes and growth they go thru. As any human that grows through life, we look fondly on some of our early years and try to grow in our later years. Rock on my fellow metal heads, and stay strong!!!

    It's quite simple: Artists are free to do anything they want, as are "fans" free to choose to listen to anything they want to listen to. And anyone SHOULD be free to speak their mind on anything, especially in arts and entertainment. I think Metallica's new songs are not particularly great, and If Darkness Had A Son is quite mediocre. It should not be a big deal for anyone to hear that. If you disagree, just say so and speak your mind. If everyone did just that, the world would be a much better place. And to emphasize the point: It's both about speaking your mind and tolerating others speaking their mind (about you).

      Why? There's bands a LOT older than these guys that are still touring, and they're also still relevant enough to pack stadiums. Which is more than you can say for some more recent artists. Obviously, if they wanted to hang it up, they could easily survive, but they really don't have any reason to.

    • @OriginalGrasshopper
      @OriginalGrasshopper Рік тому

      In the next 5 years?? Not even close. Those 80’s and 90’s bands still have decades of touring left. For example: The Rolling Stones started in 1962 and are still doing worldwide stadium tours afterall.
