You can extend the battery life significantly by turning on airplane mode and turning off image review (you can still review your photos, they just don’t display needlessly while you are taking shots).
I’ve had the Z6 since launch and it’s only gotten better through it’s firmware updates. The single XQD/cfexpress b card slot is not a complaint for me. I’ve never had a card fail on me unlike I have with sd cards. I came from dslr so the ftz adapter has served me well for my older lenses while waiting on faster glass to be released for the Z mount. I agree with your key points and amazing video 👍🏽👍🏽
Really appreciate your comment, thank you for your kind words. The z6 is a fantastic camera as you well know and it will long continue to remain in my camera bag.
I did the same thing. The z50 is great but I'd be lying if i said the picture quality is the same or some what the same. Its like it doesn't produce sharp details like my z6. I was seriously considering selling it. But i still do like my z50 because its small and light
@@Isaypreach I'm about to jump from my z50 to the Z6. I like what you said about the picture quality, Now I'm looking forward to the Z6 even more for the start of 2025

I also bought Nikon Z fc kit, love the retro like in my old time 70's 80's. Keep up a good work, I am guess you are getting a Z9.

I recently got a Nikon Zf and I'm looking to aquire a second backup body, that's affordable and takes my Z mount lenses. Thought of Z5, Z6, Z6II. Honestly, I’m leaning towards the Z6ii. Nearly everyone I've spoken to who actually owns a Z6ii (or Z5), LOVES it. I love my Zf, but I want something that will act as a more ergonomic and compact backup, with similar menus. I shoot portraits and headshots and an occasional family session or engagement. No events, sports or wildlife. I don't need speed, and I don’t plan on doing video with this backup. I played with a Z5 and a Z6ii in the camera store recently and they both felt really nimble and great to use. In use, I couldn’t really tell much difference between the Z5 and Z6ii. Both really nice. Would you recommend the Z6ii as a backup to my Zf? If I get the Z5 I can afford more glass, but maybe the better body is a wiser choice?
Hey buddy, thanks for getting in touch, the Zf is a fantastic bit of kit. Personally you couldn't go wrong wth the z5 as a back up camera to the Zf and it would certainly be capable of the types of shoots you would need it for, also with the lesser cost of the Z5 you could also grab a new lens. The Z6ii is a beast of a camera but would be a better choice if it was going to be your A camera rather than your B. If your ZF is handling the jobs you cover then that and the Z5 would make sense with also the option of treating yourself to a new lens. If however you need a new A camera then I would advise you get the Z6ii as its a beast of camera but the ZF and Z5 makes more sense. I would also advise you take a look at E-Infinity.com for brand new camera gear at great cost savings, I buy all my cameras off them.
@ thank you, that’s all very helpful. This is a weird way of getting to it, but I think both cameras may be A cam, depending on the day. So I’m leaning toward the Z6II. I think it’ll be a good investment and more than capable of being a good brother to the Zf. Thank you again for your advice!

As a wedding photographer the extra space isnt the issue, its the liability of having a card fail. are the XQD cards really that dependable? ive had an SD card fail before. luckily my d850 has XQD plus SD
XQD cards are extremely reliable and therefore are more robust and reliable with single slots, i shot many weddings across the years of being on the z system and didn’t encounter a single issue with the cards. Hope this helps
Hm. Even though I love the image quality and the handling, I am not too happy with the autofocus. A lot of shots with shallow depth of field are focused on the eyelashes, not the pupil. Do you have any issues with that? I‘d love if you could make a video about your setup for shooting vids with your z6. Which lenses do you recommend? You said you only use z glass because it‘s silent. I'm considering this or the Z7 as a second for my Z6 II. My professional work (portraiture/headshots) is shot tethered so the second card isn't an issue.
What picture profile settings are you using for video on the Z6, I shoot with the Z6 beast, and it seems I just cannot get the image that I want, that smooth cinematic colour, I use the flat picture profile, with some settings changed, like sharpening up to 3, mid-range sharpening 2 and clarity up by 1, I thought to put the settings like this, sharpening -3, mid range sharpening 0 and clarity plus 1, to get smoother bokeh and an smooth halo over the subject...
@@chriswillzphotographyandfilm me too, I use the flat profile, more space to grade latter on, not much, but I take what I can xD What do you setting do you use on the FLAT PP? Sharpening etc...? +3, +2. 0 is a popular one as I managed to find out, but I want a more smooth looking video
good precise info, basically what I was looking for a in a nutshell. would you mind explaining to me or just giving me your opinion, does an enthusiast, or someone just getting into the foray of professional photography, do I need 10bit n log? I don't do much video, mainly want to get it for stills. general video now and then just to try it. I saw somewhere I need an external monitor for the 10bit n log, I doubt that's in my budget..
Hi there many thanks for your comment, the z6 is a phenomenal still camera and a very very capable camera for video, as mentioned the 10bit N-Log would need to be unlocked by Nikon themselves at a cost, I personally don’t have it and yes an external monitor would be needed to record it through HDMI. Regards Chris
Man, I can tell u now that u are not gonna need it. 10 bit 4k is only for video. And u will need not a monitor but a recorder, like Atomos Ninja V plus cables, batteries, SSD, camera cage, overall it's gonna cost u around 800-900€ extra. And while recording it's gonna be taking just tons of space on ur SSD. And it also has crop factor while recording with external recorder, because it shoots pure 4k, which is worse, because internally the camera is recording 6k video from whole sensor and internally downsampling it to 4k. So the only benefits u get shooting with external recorder is higher dynamic range, deeper, reacher and easier to edit colours. On the negative side is worth of extra 800-900€, extra weight, crop, less details, more hustle with noise shooting at high ISO because internal noise reduction algorithms are not working while shooting 10bit on external recorder. So is it worth it? No, it's not. Except only if u have some kind of +- professional production and earn money by shooting product videos or anything.
@@madez24 hey it could not be any clearer! Thanks a lot for this response. Since then I did make a few changes .. I went with the z6ii instead with a 28-75 2.8. Great video.. I'm looking to make the jump from my first camera (Nikon D3100) to the z series. I am torn between the z6 and the z6ii. I saw a video where they host suggested that the z6ii was "future proof" and won't get outdated in the next 2-3years. I was wondering if the same could be said about the Z6?
The benefits of dual card slots obviously put wedding photographers at more ease but being a wedding photographer myself I have never encountered any issues with single slot memory, if you can afford the Z6ii then I’d suggest to go for that, if you would prefer to pay less and invest in a z mount lens also you will not be disappointed and I can guarantee the z6 will be more than enough for what you need it for, I wish you the best in your photography journey 📸
Hi there I’ve found no issues with the firmwares I think with each one this camera just keeps improving, in fairness I find the focus tracking to be fine Nikon ain’t the market leaders for it but it does a fantastic job
What would happen if after finishing the wedding photography session you realize that the card has been damaged and you lose the wedding photos? Have you ever worried about it?
The XQD card is a very robust card so unless the card is physically damaged that would be an issue but in terms of just a general card failure the XQD cards are extremely reliable compared to a standard SD card so having just a single card slot gives me piece of mind. I also back up my images on my laptop and hard drive midway through a wedding day so ensure I have enough back ups
"Anyone"? For the amateur that doesn't shoot sports, weddings or a lot of video the Z5 is the better choice. Spending an extra $300 for a XQD card and a reader is unnecessary.
