    Just purchased my Z6ii in December'2023 - it is great camera for me so far. The main reason I purchased this was for the ability to use Snapbridge and geo-tagging which my D610 didn't have.

    I still use my Z6 for professional work and it holds up great. There isn’t anything that I haven’t done on it. Events, portraits, sports, nightlife, video, b-roll, movie poster printing you name it. I know all its shortcomings and how to counter them. AF sucks if you don’t know how to handle it but I don’t care. I know that when it’s time to deliver I can be proud with the results and the image quality is amazing.

      Yes, the image quality. I photographed the Sierra mountains in Lone Pine California, including Mount Whitney, and the mountains have this 3d look to them. I was stunned, but the Nikon Z 50mm f1.8 had something to do with it too. These shots were handheld like a snapshot, but you’d think I spent all day composing on a tripod.

    Just bought a used Z6 around November last year. A huge upgrade from my much older Nikon D5200. Really needed something with better low light and video capability. It came with the FTZ adapter, so I get to use my AF-S 70 - 300 f4.5-5.6 and a 50mm f1.8. The full frame sensor is great for live band work and totally out-classes the D5200...as you'd expect! It just feels more "professional" too and has inspired me to up my game behind the camera. Well worthwhile in 2024!

    I bought my Z6 in 2019, and I love it. Considering today against the Z6ll and the competition, it’s still a great value, especially considering how much you can save now buying an excellent condition model used. Except for the most demanding still photo applications (action, sports, wildlife) the Z6 provides plenty of punch for photographers and still performs well for hybrid applications.

    Great review! I bought my Z6 about the same time as you did for a fun camera. I had a Nikon D850 as my work camera for portraits and headshots, but I found out that I began taking my Z6 to some shoots for ease of use and the fantastic photos I would get. I ended up trading my D850 and all my f mount lenses for a Z9 and new Z lenses at the beginning of this year. I've had a D750 since it released in 2015 and decided toward the end of last year to get into mirrorless and ended up going with the Zf. The Zf is a great camera, but the big downside for me was that it did not have a port to connect a remote intervalometer, so I couldn't use my Hahnel remote with it. And my D750, which I did a full spectrum mod on for IR and improved night shooting, could not be used with the awesome Sigma 14mm/1.4 among other S lenses I've acquired.
    Fast forward to the present, I was seriously considering trading in the Zf for the Z6iii, but fortunately the bright idea of simply getting a used Z6 lit up in my mind, which was far more sensible since timelapses and night shooting with Z lenses was the only additional function I needed. It also cost less and I now have two ML bodies instead of just one.
    Thanks for reminding me that I made the right choice!

    • @RunNGunPhoto
      @RunNGunPhoto  Місяць тому +2

      I think you made a great choice! I also love that you converted the D750 to full spectrum. I might be doing that with one of my cameras soon as well!

    • @quincylee2276
      @quincylee2276 Місяць тому

      @@RunNGunPhoto Cheers, man! I highly recommend the full spectrum mod, especially since Kolari has a UV/IR cut filter (Hot Mirror 2) that does an excellent job at allowing you to shoot conventional photographs again.
      One further tip, I've learned that full spectrum conversion is particularly more economical on a ML body rather than DSLR because they allow the use of clip-in filters which are basically one size fits all.

      Thanks for making this video. Just wish it was around about 3 months ago.
      We recently upgraded to a Z6 after putting off upgrading from a D3400 (that we very quickly outgrew) for years.
      Already shooting Nikon and having some legacy F-Mount glass made it kind of a no brainer but I still used the A7iii as a benchmark.
      Honestly, after all the research I had done (and without pushing our budget), we were able to get an excellent condition Z6 body, the kit lens from the Z5 (to get us started on Z glass), and a FTZ adapter for hundreds less than a Z6ii body and nothing else. Our body was just over $800 from MPB and even had the original box and (2) manuals.
      When I remembered to check shutter actuations I was pleasantly surprised to find out this 5 year old body we purchased had barely over 5000 shots taken on it. 😲
      With the firmware updates over the past few years (particularly 3.0 and 3.4), the autofocus and tracking is virtually identical to the Z6ii, in addition to other improvements.
      Honestly, the only major dealbreaker I could see for people is the single card slot, if say you shoot weddings.
      I was also disappointed to find out the Z6 doesn’t have the same extended shutter speeds the Z6ii has, but I only see that being a dealbreaker if you’re planning on shooting astrophotography.
      My wife shoots concert photography semi-professionally, and the Z6’s low light performance and high native ISO range were among some of the biggest deciding factors when my wife sent me into camera purchase research mode.
      The only regret I have so far was not springing on the 24-70 f/4 S lens and getting the Z5 kit lens instead. It’s fine for entry level, but I already know it’s limitations and wish I thought harder and just spend a few more hundred bucks on the S-series zoom.
      Nice thing is that lens can be easily had in excellent condition for under $500.
      In summary: I think the Z6 is the biggest bang for your buck to get into full frame mirrorless (I was surprised to see used Z5 bodies going for hundreds more, when it seems to be not up to par with the Z6 - guess it’s just because it’s newer). In my research, some of it’s features beat out the A7iii, particularly still image quality and color rendition, and aside from the Canon EOS R having 5000+ autofocus points and a LCD that can face forward (that neither Nikon or Sony have in full frame), I don’t find it to be a capable competitor in 2024 versus the Z6 or A7iii (if just comparing first generation full frames).

    • @RunNGunPhoto
      @RunNGunPhoto  10 місяців тому +3

      You're absolutely right, the Z6 is pretty much the most bang for your buck.
      I shoot concerts as well, and the Z6 is fantastic! Having a few old F-Mount lenses definitely makes it easier to stay with Nikon.
      I've never been a fan of Sony's color rendition or photos in general...still can't put my finger on why.
      But I hope you enjoy your Z6 for many years to come! :)

The Nikon Z7, Z7II, D3, D800, D810, D850, D4, D4s…and as Stanislav states 5x4 ratio was thee aspect ratio for studio photographers working for glossy magazines such as Voque. The 5:4 aspect ratio is much easier to print up than 4:3 ratio that is common on Canon, Olympus and Panasonic cameras. But almost to vindicate my complaint, The Fuji XT-5 and Leica SL cameras have 5:4 ratio available. The Canon 5DS/R has 5:4 aspect ratio available, just not as shot. I rest my case. Nikon were just being difficult not including this ratio on the Z6. Pointless crippling of the camera.
