My wife’s Fiat 500 was making a knocking noise when going over bumps. Wasn’t going to fork out £300 for the garage to do it. This video was spot on!! Took me 4 hours with just hand tools. Happy wife happy life!
That’s great, nice work 👍 and defo a good moto to live by 😂.
both sides?
Looking to do this in 3 weeks time but I'm going to do the 2..so obviously the whole front bumper has to come of??
Just bought a 500 with a mysterious clunk, and spent all day going through every steering and suspension component looking for it. I never found it, but after seeing this, I have no doubt what I missed. Thank you for a GREAT video tutorial on how to do the job. I watched another video about this repair that was twice as long, and it didn't contain 10% of the information yours did. Excellent job, I don't think I've ever seen a better repair video. THANKS!
Wow thank you I really appreciate it! Thanks for watching 👍
Nice one, bit more than I thought to do on this one 👍👍👍👍
Hey 👋 thanks for watching 😊
Great tutorial. Absolutely spot on. Done at the side of the road, without a ramp. It took about 3 hours. Thank you.
Hey 👋 thanks for watching and the kind words I really appreciate it 🤗
Im so glad iv found somone else that doesnt remove the front bumper fully and start removing all the crash bar and headlights and allsorts of stuff you just dont need to remove
I know right I try to show how it’s done in the real world! Time is money so don’t wanna waste it! 👍
@@MrAutoFixer its a little more fiddly but it's doable. Few cuts here and there on yours hands but they heal haha
@@mk3escort84 Theres always a few cuts here and there even some bruises 😂
Superb video !
I got a pair to swap on the wife's 500.
Now it won't be quite so scary - Thanks !
Hey thanks for watching I hope you get them sorted without any issues 👍
A great, straightforward and detailed explanation! Thank you for making this!
Hey thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for taking the time to film this. I replaced mine a few weeks ago and this really helped. You have a new subscriber here.
Hey 👋 glad I could help and thanks for watching 👍
Great video, was quoted £280 for one to be replaced. Fitted myself and cost me £70 would have taken less time with an impact driver, those rusty bolts delivered a good workout though. 👍🏼
Gotta love a good workout ! And that’s a great saving nice one! ☝️ 👍
Thanks for the help!
Hey 👋 your welcome 🤗 thanks for watching

Hey 👋 thanks for watching 😊
Big thanks and very grateful. Daughter now has a car that's not knocking. And very easy to follow. Oh and I've subscribed.
Hey 👋 that’s great I bet she is very happy 😊 thanks for watching 👍
Just taken mine to a mate's garage, because I can't be arsed to do the job myself. But yes it does look and sound exactly like what mine's doing.....I will find out if the bushing is effectively worn damaged or out of it's seating once it's done. Great video anyway, the job is relatively simple (if you've got a car lift that is 😂). And I've just subscribed too! Welldone mate, good comprehensive and detailed video (especially your advice on being careful with the bolt threads much appreciated.!!!)
Hey 👋 welcome ! And thanks for watching I really appreciate it!
Good luck with urs let me know how it gets on 👍
Nice one. My new to me 500 has an annoying knock on the driver side and I suspect that this is my next job! Thank you.
Hey 👋 yes the knocking noises are annoying! Good luck doing the job let me know how you get on 👍
Very clear and detailed video. You gave me the confidence to do it myself. Thanks!
Wow I love to hear that! Hope it all went well for you ! Thanks for watching 👍
Excellent tutorial - thanks for taking the time to make it!

Nicely done - ridiculous design by Fiat.Subbed.

Already a subscriber! just re-watching this vid !
Thank you I appreciate it ☺️
Subscribed, plan to do this next week, thanks.
Should I be changing both sides or just the one I know is knackered?
Hey 👋 thanks ! It’s ok to just change the broken one but no harm in doing both I guess 👍
Thanks, about to:do mine now.
Good luck hope it goes well 👍 let me know how you get on
Great!
Hey 👋 thanks for watching
great tutorial thanks
Hey 👋 thanks for watching 👍
Subscribed. Great video. Unless I missed it, you didn't show tightening the last bolt at the wheel. Do I need to do anything special before tightening that bolt? Thanks!
Do you mean the wheel bolts ? If so then they just need to be tightened up to the correct torque or if you don’t have one just do them up real tight 👍
Sorry I wasn't clear. After you preloaded the suspension and tightened the two bolts/nuts on the chassis side of the control arm, I think you did not tighten the nut on the wheel side. When did you finally tighten it and anything special I should do before tightening it? Thanks!
@seepuyi oh I think you mean the pinch bolt, no special precautions needed for that bolt just gotta be tight. The only ones you need to worried about are the chassis ones and getting it pre loaded first and the wheel nuts of course. Everything else just needs to be tight 👍 hope that helps

Hey 👋 thanks for watching I really appreciate it 👍
Great job, well explained. Torque settings? I've subscribed.
Thanks for watching, all torque settings can be found on workshop data, but just do everything tight you will be fine 😎 👍
I subscribed, thanks mate great content
Hey thanks for watching 😊
Thank you for the video! I am not looking forward to doing this job. Any idea if the Canadian/US model is different when it comes to replacing the control arms?
Hey 👋 you got this!!! You will do it no problem, as far as I know they are the same, let me know how you get on 😊
First of all, again thank you so much for making this video man. I have the Canadian model of the fiat 500 sport, made in Mexico. So it was a little bit different. The bolt and nut sizes were different but what gave me the most trouble was actually there was this tube like metal piece which I didn't see on the European models and it made it incredibly difficult to put the new control arm into place. Other than that everything was very easy. I tackled this on my own with a few jacks and stands. I started on Saturday and finished it on Sunday. I knew it was going to be tough but with your video it was super easy to follow, thanks again man :)
@MiksaSzollosi hey so happy you managed to get it done and my video helped 😊
I subscribed this tech tip saved my but
Hey 👋 thanks for watching ☺️
you would think this would be straight forward and I thought so as well. had a wore out failed lower ball joint, no knocking no vibration. replaced with brand new driver side lower control arm now it knocks on bumps. I can replicate the noise by pulling up and down on the driver side fender but have no way of looking at the same time. Also have one hell of a vibration now under accel load which i never had before either. I'm now starting to think cv axle is also bad but again, only bolts I removed and put back are those pertaining to lower control arm. so I'm actually worse off really. when trying to adjust the wheel hub to align with the lower control arm ball joint, I accidently pulled out the cv joint ever so slightly. not all the way but enough that I wanted to stop everything and push it back in and I'm wondering if the spline went back in slightly turned from original position and now vibrates like hell under load. I don't have many options and will likely drive it till the suspension tears out from under it and and I can call it a loss and get the insurance pay out. its a 160k mile work vehicle for construction and has 60k miles on the motor. so I suppose it is what it is. no idea on the clunking no idea on the vibration
Hi wow sounds like you’re having a right nightmare!!! Only thing I can suggest is to retrace everything you have touched and check it? Failing that have a local mechanic check it over just to be sure it’s safe. Either way good luck 🤞

Is the 500L lower suspension arm replacement the same as the 500 you done on the video, im doing my daughters at the weekend thanks keith
Hey 👋 Ive not done one on a 500l but im sure they will be similar, if anything it might be easier if its a different design? Let me know how you get on or if you need any help 👍
Great video 👌 just done my better halfs thanks to this.
Stupid design by fiat though 🤦♂️
Hey 👋 happy it helped! Hope you didn’t do it out in the rain 🌧️ 😂
Thanks for watching 👍
Great Video!!
Thank you ☺️
Just diagnosed this same issue on my girlfriends 2015 500 nearside lower arm (only done 65k) Garage want £230 to change it but after watching your video, and as long as there are no seized bolts it looks very straightforward. Do you recommend doing both sides though for consistent handling?
That’s great that you feel you can tackle it yourself after watching my video, I’m sure you’ll be able to do it no problem and personally if there’s no play in the other side I would leave it now and just do the side that’s knocking if you find it easy then, when the other side starts, knocking you can tackle that one as well☺️
@@MrAutoFixer wow, very impressed by your quick reply. One last question though. Should the tracking be rechecked after replacing the arm?
@edgworth I would say yes do the tracking for price of mind that’s what I do just to be sure 👌
I can't get the brake line off the strut on a 2010 fiat 500 pop
Renew both lower suspension wishbone arms (front axle) £560.44 is that a good price ?
Sounds a little high to me I would have a ring round the local garages and see if they match up, I know the prices vary quite a bit depending on location, let me know how you get on 👍

Thanks for quick reply, yes that was from Halfords Autocentre borehamwood. Your not in the north London area are you 😊 liked the video looked straight forward to me : ) LOL not.
Unfortunately I am not, and Halfords are known to be on the expensive side! I would go elsewhere if I was you 👍
No wonder these cars are garbage
