Assembly lube to help hold the keepers in place on reinstalling was a golden tip. Best $13 I ever spent! Works great. I tried the second one without it and dropped a keeper.... I will be using the lube on the remaining valves! Great video thanks so much for posting!
Hi, very nice job bro, grateful for your video. I am working on it also now but there is some oil and it became a little bit carbon on the two cylinders. Do the car burn them out by itself or should I buy something and put to tank?
Nice job. I have a 1999 civic that is starting to use oil. I suspect the valve stem seals are the problem. It was interesting to see how to change them. I think it's a little beyond my level of repair, though with the help of a friend I did change the timing belt. About how long did it take you to change them?
I bought a rebuilt Head for my Del Sol and head the pistons and rings replaced and the cylinders bored out etc. etc... 7 years ago, I assume it came with new Seals... I'm not having any problems just looking at what I can do to make it better and or take care of it... she's running strong!!
Can I ask why you did them? I am on Vancouver Island. I have a d16y8 less than 2000 kms on it but burning blue only when I am decelerating and then get back on it. Nothing at start up. Compression test at 180 and leak down only 3 percent variation accross all 4. Motor was all rebuilt but sat for 5 years in the car in the driveway before being used again. I am leaning towards valve seals and they are the easiest to do. Debating on oem or the super tech ones. Thx!
Mine did the same it was a low km engine and would puff smoke after decel and compression was good. If you’re mechanically inclined it’s a fairly easy job to do for peace of mind.
as long as nothing moves between disassembly and reassembly it should be finr but it is highly recommended that you find top dead just do be sure that nothing has moved.
Did the rocker arm assembly sit flush? Every time I try and put the assem back on, it doesn’t seat and when I try and tighten the bolts it feels like my bolts are about to snap and I didn’t touch or mess with the rocker arm assembly
i believe everything should sit flush. there are thin dowels in the oil passages that need to be aligned before tightening the bolts. if you've bent one of those it will not bolt on properly and oil flow could be restricted.
Tomsky real simple, all you do is push a bunch of rope in the spark plug hole then rotate the engine so the piston pushes the rope against the valves holding them in
just did my headgasket and thought maybe just maybe gasket was issue.. nope still spitting smoke like a stoner on 4/20. i dont have an air compressor any tips on doing this on side of road? lmao
Nice job on both the repair and the video. You should be getting more views of this. But for those of us who have found it - much appreciated.

Then you realized you forgot to put the timing cover back on! Ive been there. Great video thank you lol
Is there a link for the spring compressor you have??
hell yeah, fellow canadian, hopefully be able to do the seals on my d15b soon, cause she absolutely choooches haha.
Great vidoe can't complain at all straight to the point and very informative getting ready to possibly buy a civic with the same issue thank you
Dear sir it is Very helpful video for all new mechanic keep it up 💕👍
Great video bro you dont have to put assembly lube on the camshaft remember thats only when its new or new motor assembly
Anthony Nieves not a necessity but I like to add a lil razzle dazzle just to be safe.
What if I dropped keeper down one of the oil holes 😅
I used a 13mm socket on my 91 Mazda Protégé BP01 head and it destroyed one of my stem seals. Luckily I noticed before I put the valve spring back on

Good video. To the point. Informative.
Thanks!

Was it the seals or piston rings?

Thanks for your time to help.
how long did it take you? i have to do it but i’m going to have to go the rope method
HEY I MUST DO STEM SEAL IN CIVIC VIII 2.2 DO YOU THING WILL BE THE SAME LIKE D16 OR HARDER TO DO IT ?? THANKS
what do you call that tools used for compressing the air in the cylinder?
What are you using to compress the springs?
its a valve spring tool they can be found at any auto parts store or princess auto/harbor freigh.
Can be onenof those broken and made the spark be cover with oil?
Solid vid
Oil around my exhaust manifold studs, hopefully it is valve seals and not a cylinder issue.....
That was a great video! Thanks!

Is the torque the same for non vtec
Is timing an issue if you don't set it at TDC before disassembly and then back to TDC before reassembling?

Would it be the same procedure for a D16Y7
Goon 1 it will be the same concept but the valve train may be a little different
@@ilikeautosdaily ahh okay, thank you! Great video by the way

good job man. congrats
How did you learn this stuff? Good job!
M. M years of tinkering my friend. Thanks
Excellent video
Nice vid! I’m also burning oil was going to remove the head before watching this! Could you explain the rope method aswell ??
Tomsky real simple, all you do is push a bunch of rope in the spark plug hole then rotate the engine so the piston pushes the rope against the valves holding them in
Ilikeautosdaily thanks for reply bro I managed to do the seals with the rope trick didn’t take long at all!
thanks man!

Rope. Feed rope into the spark plug hole and rotate the crank so that the piston pushes the rope up to hold the valve in place.
Great video!
Blue smoke at acceleration usually is a indicator of bad oil rings. Seals would be at startup that goes away after warming up
Not as easy with a dohc Toyota where the cams have to come out to get to the lifter buckets and then valves
Any advice for HONDA S600?
i don't even know what that is!
Auto trans?
yes?
@@ilikeautosdaily how does the auto trans hold the boost?
How do I get my valve back if it dropped down? Lol
Oh man that’s not good. The only way I could think is to take the head off. Somebody may have a trick if you do a google search.
good job ... u said it's easy. its bot that easy. ooof
But it is easy.
