Honda B18 Engine Tear Down | Extremely Satisfying
BE WARNED; This video is filmed and edited in a way that it is extremely satisfying for the viewer. Today I COMPLETELY disassemble my Honda B-Series (B18B1) motor to get it ready for some stronger internals. It was a super fun and rewarding learning experience that I was lucky to share with my girlfriend. Also, I swear this video is not ASMR.

Bruh videos inaccurate he’s missing his crank gurdil
Y66
Love the raw audio...no music..just get to sit back and enjoy the vid
thanks! it was fun to make.
Totally agree! So..... satisfying
Honestly
Highly agreeable
"Silence is golden."
The "No way!" and the "Woohoohoo!" I felt those.
Lol
Those crank bolts be hittin different🥴
Ima be real, I don’t be supporting much content I see, but this was well made. All the camera angles, the edits and transitions, showing and hearing each bolt and getting rid of the unnecessary. Earned a sub forsure 👍
Make sure when removing or installing head you follow the recommended sequence. On my GM ecotec motor I’m taking apart there is a different removal and installation sequence. Great video and amazing GF for helping you!
Thanks for the info!
BULLI KID For Honda engines it’s just a backwards sequence from torquing down. Shouldn’t matter much here since he’s getting everything machined and will use ARP head studs for the rebuild.
@@SlowDelSol If what is shown on the video is exactly how he did it (since the removal was edited with a lot of video cuts at that part) he wasn't doing that either though. Torque down sequence is center then alternating left center and right center moving outwards till you reach the ends. So removal is to start at the far end, alternate to the other far end and alternating until you reach the center. And it would matter if he plans on reusing those camshafts. Because the reason you remove cam cap bolts in the correct order is so that you don't potentially warp or bend the cams.
@@clemsondriver9214 technically for removing the cams as long as you move from the center outward you will be fine, but for removing the head its kinda the same? not too sure as ive the whole "fuckin send it" approach to be the same results as "carefully remove according to Honda specs"
The idea of removing the head bolts in the right way is not to warp your head, by the tension is in it.
I have built countless B18s & B20s and I love this video a lot. It brings back such beautiful memories. It also reminds me of all the little spots I've bashed my hands against these motors. 😂 When he said "no way" when he cracked the crankshaft pulley bolt first try...I felt that on a spiritual level.
Keep up the fantastic work!
do you have a instagram or anything to reach out on? if you could give me some advice on a oil leak that may be seeping through the pistons
This popped in my recommended and I’m glad it did. Alway cool to watch engine tear downs.
Same thing happened to haha
I did the same thing. started writing down every part needed for my build. pieced together all the little bits of info from forums. again another sweet video, hyped that you seem to be ramping up the build and going with the "do it nice or do it twice" mentality, you'll thank yourself later
Facts
Enjoyed! A true car enthusiast should tear down and rebuild an engine at least once in life, it's an immensely satisfying experience.
would want to do something similar with my b18b1 in my integra. just so i know everything's clean and fresh for my project car :)
@@danauburn1119 I'm doing that rn in my b18a1. It's quite nice and fun
@@darensandoval2210 about to do this with my B18a1, gonna try and either ls vtec it or boost it
@@pikatheredcat5314 yeah, ls vtec sounds nice!
did it with a ford v6 a few months ago. it is indeed satisfying. definitely wanna do a honda b18 next
im glad to see im not the only one with that brand breaker bar lmao
The raw audio and the actual piece by piece, part by part tear down is the type of video I was looking for. You just earned a subscriber
literally so satisfying, i love the raw audio too
thanks!
This video came out so nice. Stoked to keep seeing the progress!
Thank you! I'm excited to see how it comes out.
I think this is the perfect tear down video. No music, the right amount of step by step continuing and the right amount of editing where we don't see every turn of the wrench👏👏
I always love it when using a hammer and ‘punch’ the show change from it is in place bottoms out that solid sound or from the solid sound to it is about to fall lol. That’s awesome. Not many car guys can say there been that deep in to a motor and fewer get it running again. Thank you for taking us along great video
Haha thanks!
Probably one of the best tear down videos out👌🏻💯
Doing this shit at 17 feels so good bro I swear
Hell yeah man car looks clean and now pushing power congrats man!
Just watched the assembly and start up vids before this. Awesome to see what PCEA can achieve. The ASMR is delicious icing on the cake. Keep it up bruv
Thanks you!
6 min in you finally got further in than I ever did on my B17 Integra motor. She was getting a little tired of the boost when I sold her but still running fine. Brings back memories. Looks so much easier on an engine stand instead of a cramped enginebay.
Really happy for you bro! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Faran!
excellent job John! Take your time and things will fall into place
Thanks brother 😊
Enjoyed the video. Quick tip when using those blue towels they can leave behind lint so make sure you thoroughly clean before assembly
I've always wanted to rebuild an engine great job guys you are an inspiration!!
🙌🏻
Keep up the great work!!!
Alex LeDesma thanks!
I hope you’re saving for a breaker bar👌🏽 because I did the same thing you were doing. Taking a long pipe from a jack and put that on the wrench to make it a breaker bar and my wrench broke😭
honestly satisfying bro
Going to resurrect my B20B VTEC Soon..
Wish me luck man. This video has inspired me. Thank you. I’ll keep you updated on the rebuild
Did you do it?
Exactly what i expected, Thanks!
Classic Chicago rusty bolts. Nice teardown. Will follow the build 👍
Glad to see you doing this all yourself with your own equipment instead of relying on gingium
Just got mines back from CSS! Can’t wait until my build is finished !
B18lsv turbo gtx3582r 9:1
built internals ! Full E85 ! Going for 450-500 for Mexico street use😇
That’s sick! Good luck 🤙🏼
Man those front cover bolts on my tegs motor always pissed me off. Had to rebuild it and stripped one of them just because for some reason those bolts always rusted to shit. i know the pain! Great video!
Squeaky clean! 😊 Nice job! xoxo
Thanks mom!
more work and less talk.I like that.I give this guy a big fat thumbs up.
Hello, I have a question when you removed the crankshaft, it has a gasket because my follower pulley vibrates and I don't know why.
I wish all tear downs were this well made perfect angels and everything lol
Love the noises, also building a civic up and from Illinois as well :)
Well done. Great advice at the end to ask yourself questions; and then go answer them or find the answer 🗣️💯🤝🏽
Good job man, love ur videos. I don't have a Honda but, still good videos.
Thank you!
Super pumped for this rebuild I myself have a 98 civic Si coupe with a bone stock diy16 ( I thinks that’s it) engine it’s a 1.6l i4 SOHC with an auto 4 speed but if I have it as long as I want to then I’m gonna do an engine and transmission swap maybe a newer 2L i4 and manual gearbox anyway can’t wait to see the rest of this rebuild good luck John
Thanks man! Good luck with your build.
I'm in the same boat... b16a, needs to be re- surfaced. So this was helpful. Subb, liked.👍🏻
do the crankshaft main cap bolts (right before the block meets the oil pan), do they have to go back to it's original hole it came out of? i got a b18c1 that was torn down to send into for CSS and a buddy recommended a rebuild if the bolts weren't labeled to go back to where they belong.
It’s probably a good idea to put them back where they were. I would do that if I were you.
Thanks bro this helped
This video helped me solve how to get the crankshaft off and pistons out, which because of the engine condition, took an hour with one of the best hammers you can buy and just beating the shit out of it. Thank you
Just picked up my first b18b1 today, this video was really fun to watch. Glad you found that smoking gun! What led you to tear it down, just a gut feeling?
Yeah exactly. Just a gut feeling.
I’m about to tackle this job to drop a b18b1 in a 91 EF hatch. I don’t know the history on the engine I picked up so I want to rebuild it for hobby purposes. Got a parts list? The rebuild kits I’m finding don’t have stellar reviews.
I’m not trying to do anything crazy, just pep up an old car and give it some more zip.
Great video
Solid dude
What marker did you use for writing on the distributer ??
You make it look easy bro I'm tearing down a b18b1 also and I'm running into broken bolts rounded bolts and all kinds of crap
Why was the oil drain bung so low on your oil pan?
What engine stand are you using? Love the video!
Harbor freight. And thank you 🙏
7:40 imma do that the next time I need to change my oil
How did you set it up on the stand?
That engine was already pristine.
Man you lucked out with that rusty lower timing cover bolt! Great video!
I know man haha that would have been brutal.
What marker u used to write on the distributer??
How much do ppl usually Charge for this kind of job? If u don't mind me asking
I'm in the process of rebuildingy very first b20b and I'm super nervous and winging it . Any tips that I should know? Lol
Run the ring filer the right way. Check valve lash when you’re done.
3:10 ayayay 😂
Awesome stuff. I would like to know what kind of schooling you've had so I can gain all this knowledge myself. I'm still very new to this stuff and wanna learn as much as I can. What certs would you reccomend? Thanks
I learned through UA-cam videos 😅
Yeah just watch UA-cam videos and take notes.
"Oooooooh.. dude!" What a moment.
Dope tear down
Thanks 🙏
I had my motor rebuilt at a shop called apex. They did a good job on my motor.
That is one of the shops that I am considering. Glad to hear that they did a good job.
Satisfying video!
*insert flex emoji*
by weight roughly what is the percentage of Aluminium alloy and Steel in an engine block? Does anyone know?
Cual motor es mejor el D16y8 al B18B1????????
is it safe to port the intake and exhaust ports of the block of this b18 with a turbo on it?
I don't see why not
Crank shaft is cast or steel
guys. someone got the workshop manual torq accurate for head, conrod and crankshaft screw for engine b18 and b16.
Does anyone have any tips on remembering were all that stuff goes lol I'd forget
Get your self a whole lot of nut sand rubber bands ,when I take a part off I put the bolt in the correct hole and put a painted nut on so it is not lost. Rubber band around the bolts also work.
Engines are so cool.
That crank pulley just came off... WITHOUT praying to the good lord for patience!
Lol
how meny cost new engine?
I am really wondering what I should do w my del sol. Has b18b1 now with Gsr trans. I want more power but can’t decide if I Want lsv or keep the ls head.
I’d say just keep the LS head, get CSS and turn up the boost big time 🤙🏼
@@boosted_john that would be fantastic but I’m 17 and have a low budget. I was think rod and pistons and 400 or a lil more hp. Or vtec head on it at like 350. Thank you for the reply! Love your content
@@sethstmyers148 totally understand. I can promise that going ls vtec will be significantly more expensive.
Css, good job you will thank yourself later!!
Thanks! I'm excited.
this was great, can you please do one for an h22?
Maybe in the future, but this was for my own personal build. The assembly video should be out by next week.
what mileage were you at on this engine?
6:49 there goes VTEC 🤣
This is therapeutic
💪🏼
awesome job! but man those rod ruts didnt look very tight whoa!
lol. Good thing I took it apart when I did!
4:55 that was a good save
Lmao. Biggest W.
Ring land bro they are called ring lands.
A car mechanics version of ASMR
Crown of the piston, need ring gap to prevent that.
No Vtec cam?
Easiest honda engine to build. Make sure you get a type r oil pump and water pump from acura if u want the engine to last
The name of that part on the piston is called the ring land.
Thank you 🙏
What experience do you have working with cars. I feel like I would be able to take a motor apart but I woulda lost all the nuts and bolts already lol
Angelo Put everything in ziplock bags and label them. Once you do it once you’ll see it’s not as complicated as it looks on a video.
I've been working on cars since I was 13. Taking apart a motor is the easy part. Putting it back together is the hard part.
Boosted John makes sense. Keep the vids coming 💯
I use rubber bands to hold the bolts in place as I disassemble the motor, also nut painted so I know they don't belong to the motor
Did that filter at the begging get tighten with an impact 😳😂
Some commentary and explainanations during the tear down would make these kinda videos PRIMO
Love how this girl wanna participate in what you do❤️💯🌹
Me too 🥰
Boosted John shes a keeper!!! Put a ring on it lol
Do you have something against brake clean?
Only the price lol
Wish this engine had coil on packs instead of a distributer then it would be perfect.
Correct me if im wrong, idk much about B series and thats why im here, but those non vtec cams?
Update, seen the cam roll over, nvm..! Lol
Looks like non vtec to.me to
Now I wish I didn't junk my Integra, just a month too late 😭😭😭
this is fire , it be coo if you labeled what each part was . i mean cuz i kno some stuff , alternator , motor mounts , intake manifold , shit like that
Working on the engine assembly video now and I’ve started to do that. It’s coming together awesome so far.
Is that a b18c1 or a b18c5?
B18b1
1:17 which hose is this ?
It’s not stock. It’s from a breather tank that I installed.
