      Really curious about the mic placements. I have been doing a 10 location calibration where the front of the couch was 6” lower than listening position, middle plane was the same height as the first measurement, and behind the couch was 6” higher than the first measurement. I honestly dont have any confidence in what im doing, but that is how i interpreted Yves doc.

      @@zachb6328 Yeah, I've been getting some different suggestions on the mic placements and I'm going to try the suggestion of doing lower in front and higher in back. I haven't done the 10 location placement though. However, I may try that and then compare between the different options. The good thing about ARC is it's capable of saving the files to switch between them. Will keep you posted!

    Thanks for being brave enough to do these videos. My experience with the MRX1120 was certainly a lot different coming from a Denon flagship AVR. The sonic improvement was noticeable as was the differences between Audyssey and ARC. Many Audyssey users, like me, were always fiddling with the settings because it never really sounded right. Upon switching to Anthem ARC, that changed significantly.
    The ARC learning curve is steep, but once one understands that ARC truly works to correct the room, one can relax and appreciate the performance. Varying the mic positions in both distance and height seems to be key. With Audyssey, near field measurements seemed to work best (for MLP), but ARC makes every seat enjoyable.
    Another trick to consider is to double up a thick blanket on the leather furniture to remove reflections and mimic a person absorbing the sound. This makes a difference to my ears, especially when occupancy varies. Enjoy your 1140 and its great features.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks I appreciate that. It's like going from driving a car to flying a 747 but to your point autopilot can handle most of it. I also found the varying mic locations to help from my first attempt at ARC and our family watched a movie last night and I was not sitting in the MLP and still enjoyed it very much.
      Thanks for the tip on the blankets. I will have to rerun ARC since I got an external amp so will give it a try.

      Thanks, Mark actually since this video I've tried some other methods and have ended up with a different way of going about it than what I discuss here. However, I'm not saying that I found a better method, just a method that provides good results for my specific setup. I would definitely recommend trying this one out and seeing how it works for you, some folks still find better results with this method, and you can always reach out to Yves on the Facebook group and pay for his remote calibration help to try out as well. The good thing is if it doesn't sound better you can always go back to your previous ARC file. Best of luck!

      Glad to hear that and the great thing about this system is that there is more tuning that you can do to get the sound that you are wanting. For example one thing I've recently done is to go into the 1140 GUI and raise the Subwoofer level to +6, +8 or +10db when listening to music in 2 channel mode. Is it correct or what would be considered the right way for the music to sound? Probably not but I like how it sounds to me when I do that. I've been told before that your ears should be the final tool in getting the sound that you like so best of luck whether you keep trying on your own or hire someone to tune it for you.

    Hi thx for the video! Good job! Question for you; in Yves doc it mentions in step 3: Go in the WEB UI and put all the speakers levels (or be sure they are) = 0dB in the trims for all the speakers profiles. (Fig. 2). Is this necessary to do at the beginning? i didn't see you do this.

      Glad to hear that, I do have a follow up on this video but it revolves around the Dolby post processing that I mention in this video. Basically use it only if you need it. I've turned it off and have enjoyed the way it sounds without it. As for the demo it actually wasn't a disc. I downloaded from thedigitaltheater.com to my computer. They have a section for the Dolby Trailers. I then used my Xbox and PLEX to play the file from my computer to the Xbox. The file specifically was Amaze (Lossless-ATMOS). They have other as well.

    And also do arc once and creating 2.2 or 2.0 stero you can do after by just creating another profile and then you just cut out the speakers you don’t want you don’t have to do that at the start so arc measures to many times not needed at all

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  2 роки тому +1

      Great tip! It took so long to do all those measurements and they all were the same so make sense to just turn off the speakers after instead of while doing it. Just to confirm, I would just need to turn them off or on from the speakers menu? I'll have to try but will it remember that I turned those off for the profile since I'm using only the one measurement?

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  5 місяців тому

      Yeah, I think that because you do have so many options with ARC that it can get intimidating, however, I personally have found the process of trying different things enjoyable. I may need to do a more updated version of my current process but here is a link to my most recent things that I have done and tried. This provides a basic process of ARC: ua-cam.com/video/yajfOWU8yDE/v-deo.html and this one is just some things that I tried after that: ua-cam.com/video/zjJipe-5eyk/v-deo.html. If you do decide to go the Anthem route I hope that it turns out better than you expected.

    So you only have to adjust the lowest db speaker and subwoofer to 75 db ?

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, if you want to do it this way you want to see which speaker is lowest and raise the volume to bring it up and use that during calibration. If you have one sub then 75db but for me I had two so set each one to 72db. To be honest though, I have a follow up video and I no longer use this method as I decided to trust Anthem on their calibration. Either method works it's just a matter of where you want the master volume to be at reference levels.

    Hi, how does the Mrx 1140 perform with DD and DD+ content, for example Netflix, DVD and you tube. And also if you can compare this with other AVR’s on the same context how would it stack up. Thank you.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  2 роки тому

      Ray, I can tell you that it does a great job with streaming content, although I do notice some differences between what movie or show is being watched. Blue Rays do sound the best at least for the ones that I have listened to but I do about 99% streaming and have not felt like I was missing much. As for your second question I unfortunately only had my previous receiver which was an old Pioneer VSX 1131 and the Anthem is so much more than that was and probably not a fair comparison. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to purchase other receivers to try and not a big enough channel to receive samples to test out. But if that ever happens I will make sure to compare for sure.

      Thank you for answering.
      Also, how would you describe dolby volume for low volume movie watching. Do all the detail and bass come alive at low volumes for example. Thank you.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  2 роки тому +1

      @@rayking507 No problem and as for low volume it does have some post processing modes (Movie, Night and Music). Those are specifically for low volume watching and they do preserve the bass as well as the vocals but from what I have noticed some dynamics are lost. It sounds good but if you are able to leave those off and turn it up as loud as you can then that is better.

    • @rayking507
      @rayking507 2 роки тому

      @@RandomDistractionsYT So just to clarify are those related to the dolby volume option or are they different options you select on the anthem.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  2 роки тому

      @@rayking507 They are options on the Anthem. So if you are watching something and you can turn it up loud you can leave the Dolby Post Processing modes (Movie, Music, Night) off. But if you need to keep the volume low you turn them on depending on what you are watching or need. You can turn those modes on no matter what the receiver is getting so if it's DD, DD+, Dolby Atmos, True HD, etc. it doesn't matter. You can still use them. This option is actually on most receivers and was on my old 2016 receiver as well.
