I just got the Anthem MRX 740. Thank you for this. Helped greatly, being as I've never seen ARC. I've been watching videos on ARC, even before I got the 740. Everyone's video's were of great help.
I've heard ARC is really a huge step above a lot of the other room correction softwares built into other products... Absolutely love the software interface! Great job explaining everything and fantastic video as always man! 😀
Thanks brother, I appreciate you watching as always. ARC does seem to do a fantastic job flattening the response. I look forward to learning more and diving deeper into it.
@@SpecOfTech thanks man, im sure i will be asking you some questions - i am not making a calibration video, just an overview video discussing the features and giving it a demo in my HT
thank you for this video! helped me set up arc genesis for my anthem mrx 1140 and i am extremely impressed with the results of the anthem room correction system as it lives up to the hype. it did wonders for the bass as i wasnt so impressed with the anthems initial muddy boomy base without the room correction done. keep up the good work you have a faithful subscriber here
n00b here as well. Just got an MRX 740 a few months ago. I don't think you mentioned it in the video, the microphone has to face forward as well as straight up. There is a little dot on the mic indicating forward. Point that dot to the front sound stage. (EDIT, somebody else already pointed that out. I'm leaving the comment up because its important)
Thanks for the good video. I used the Auto mode on my MRX 540. One item I noted is you do need to have the dot on the mic pointed to the speakers as that is the front of the mic. Enjoy your system.
Lol I can't believe how many people have picked up on that. The measurements I was taking in the video were not going to be used, so I wasn't concerned which way the mic was facing. But, I clearly messed up and should have included in the video that the mic is directional and should face the right way lol. Thanks for watching, enjoy your system as well.
I have run ARC on my AVM50 since it first was available as a upgrade. Most of the gurus have recommended turning off any bass correction you currently have before running ARC. This is what I am doing with my JL Audio Fathom. I suggest giving it a try. Thanks for reviewing the AVM70, I am probably upgrading to that preamp soon.
Thanks for your video, I am pretty new to Anthem/ARC too and this was helpful. One trick I learned was after you run ARC is to limit the corrections above 500hz for all your speakers. I used this trick in the Audyssey editor app as well and I just finds it adds more dynamics back to your speakers/room. My room is treated which I think helps and I don't need nearly as much EQ. The more I do this stuff the more I believe EQ should be done in moderation. But that's just me and my room.
100% if your room is treated properly, that will definitely help, and reduce the amount of EQ needed. Audio is so subjective, and there are times I prefer my sound without room eq, and there are times I prefer it with. I think the best thing an enthusiast can do, is to play around with their system until they found a sound that they prefer. I am glad you found what sounds best to you, thanks for watching my friend.
Thank you for showing and explaining exactly how to get everything ready to use ARC. I am new to ARC and could not figure out if the microphone connects to the PC or to the Anthem receiver. Everything else I read or viewed glossed over the actual setup and how things will work. Nice job!
Have you check arc mic input sensitivity? Can you share what the mic input sensitivity is? You should check arc calibration using an SPL meter too see if arc is calibrating everything properly
Thanks for sharing. Do you have a moment to share how you check the mic input sensitivity and are you just sending a tone to measure with the spl meter the arc calabration before and after ? Thanks
Excellent content as always! I’ve currently got the Paradigm premiere (bookshelf & center) for my main soundstage and just ordered the Founders series bookshelves and smaller center channel. I’m not sure if you’ve heard anything on the new series but man am I excited to get them broken in and rerun ARC!
as per the manual the light on the front of the mic should point towards the screen I didn't see you mention downloading the microphone calibration file?
The measurement I took in the video wasn't going to be used, so I wasn't concerned about the light on the MIC and its direction, but I guess it would have been good to mention that in the video. There is always easy to miss the little things in videos like this. With my unit I didn't need to download a calibration file, my microphone just showed up when I plugged everything in.
Thank you for this very interesting video. I would like to ask some questions. Does ARC mesure the distances and the volumes of each loudspeaker or does the user have to mesure that himself and enter the mesurements before beginning the calibration you describe? If the user has to enter the mesurements manually, how is it possible to know the right distances for the subwoofers having a DSP that creates some delay in the sound? Audyssey mesures the distances and takes this delay into account "adding" a certain distance between the listener and the subs and that solves the problem of this delay.
@@SpecOfTech also, just wondering, did you happen to own an anthem before ? Ex: Gen-1; MRX-x00, D2V, AVM-50v-3D, (ie: ARC-1) or even Gen-2, Gen-3,; MRX-x10/x20, AVM-60, (ie: ARC-2, GENESIS) ? Great, Honest videos, glad I subscribed!!
Unfortunately no, I have since sold the Marantz and would not be able to compare them accurately. Based off of my memory of the Marantz, I will say that ARC does seem to do a better job, but is a little too aggressive on the bass for my taste. I feel Marantz does a better job on bass management for those that like heavy handed bass. ARC does a great job of cleaning up the bass, but it tames it far too much for my liking. With some tweaking both Aud XT32 and ARC can sound fantastic, but ARC does seem to have some tricks up its sleeve for cleaning up the response.
@@SpecOfTech thanks man. I have a Denon 4500 H but I run all external power so the next step is full separates. trying to decide between the two, seems like Marantz is the safest bet and the least buggy, I was also looking at emotiva. I'm not in any hurry though so I'll keep an eye on the market and the technology
Nice tutorial. Fyi...the new ARC mic is directional. I noticed that you didn’t mention this and it appeared that you had it placed backwards in the video. There is a little hole in the mic with a sticky tab attached underneath telling you that the hole should be facing the front of the room.
lol yeah, I didn't realize everyone would pick up on that. I just used that measurement for the video and was not using it for my unit, so I wasn't concerned about which way it was facing. When I do a more in-depth video after getting more knowledge on ARC I will have to remember to point that out.
Does ARC EQ and optimize the subwoofers as a multi-sub system? Or does it EQ and integrate each sub individually? I had read that was part of the new units but wasn’t able to tell from the video.
From what I can tell from my measurements is that it EQ'd each subwoofer independently. It gave a different curve and settings for each subwoofer. I have heard that the multi-sub integration is not working as of yet, but it is something they are working on.
I emailed Anthem this past week on subwoofer phase alignment and calibration - here is their response: Automatic Phase Adjustment and Subwoofer calibration will be added through ARC Genesis for the AVM 70/90 at a later date through a firmware update. At this time we do not have a timeframe to provide on when this will be available. Set your unit up for automatic updates so you know when the feature is available. @@kyleo2113 I’m thinking it’s a very tricky implementation. Even Dirac’s ended up having an issue in their implementation that they just posted yesterday the different solutions they are working on. It’s a great feature though. Makes life so much easier.
@@danielwander605 Didn’t know that Dirac had the same issue. Overall I am very happy how the anthem sounds and they seem to have a good track record of cleaning up bugs and making enhancements. I was just glad to hear they were working on it and now looking forward to when they release their next update.
Thanks for the clear "how to". You mentioned your subs go down to 8 hz; what brand/model are they? Also, have you tried other room correction like Dirac Live? If so, how do they compare?
Great video...just bought an mrx720. Trying to understand it's capabilities. Can I take, say, 4 measurements for individual seating arrangements and then swap between them on the avr? If so, do i change between them via a laptop or does the avr have that facility? Thanks.
@@SpecOfTech thanks for the quick response. One more question... The avr offers a minimum of 5 positions to take measurements. Can I use an offset seating position, or two offset seating positions to the left and right and take all 5 measurements from that one place or two places? Cheers
great vedio I just bought paradigm premiers 800 towers and waiting on my mrx540 anthem do u think this reciever will be enough power for these speakers as it will be more for just listening too spotify then home theater later thx .
The 800's are a relatively sensitive speaker, I don't see you having any issues unless you like things excessively loud. In which case you would want to get some external amplification.
Hi there, great instructional video. I did notice something though? The white sticker on the microphone says this faces the front of the room? It looked like you had the mic facing the cushion on the chair? Is this correct? I thought the sticker faced the front of the room? Not sure if this is a big deal?? Thanks
LOL, way more people are noticing this than that I thought would. The measurements I took in the video were not going to be used, so I wasn't concerned which way I was facing the mic. I don't know how much it matters, but it must matter if they took the time to insert a microphone hole there and put a sticker on it lol.
Great video again!! I love this stuff!!! ARC looks really good, I have a question...does ARC have speaker groups? say 2 fronts (for example) in a dedicated independent window, where you can play with the target curve for both? and can you adjust the target curve? Only asking because I have run DIRAC Live full a few times now and I was able to adjust the curve, try it over and over until I was happy. The other thing is that I was able to add as many correction points as I liked. This was especially good with Bass (subs) management. The only thing I didn't like is that Dirac set the sub gain at -6 db. I had to re do measurements with my sub's gain set 6 Db lower, barely adequate for measurement levels. That worked better, then restoring the sub levels back to original after completion. ARC seems almost better in some areas! I suppose no correction software is perfect, but ARC seems to be as good as Dirac. Looking forward to hearing some thoughts on this!
Hey John, thanks for the comment as always brother. I don't know if ARC is able to group speakers like you described above, but you can adjust the curve for each speaker individually to your liking. There is also some other subwoofer adjustments that I didn't cover in this video, because I wanted to keep this one pretty simple. Dirac sounds like it is similar to ARC, I bet it does an amazing job as well. I need to come hear that NAD you have yet. How's the move coming along?
Well the Anthem AVM70 is a very nice unit when mine was working for a month. The auto update worked but mine "glitched" on the firmware auto update and does not turn on anymore. Anthem will warranty it but I have been (since 4-23-2021) trying to get the papers from Anthem on the RMA but emails & phone calls are becoming no response on emails or Covid 19 recordings on the phone que. Warranty maybe an issue here guys? While it worked I had all 15.2 working and it sounded amazing. Anthem told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks for this to be fixed but I have already lost another week just trying to get the paper work returned to me?
Nice walk thru :) Does ARC have the option to sweep while bass Management is active? As an old Dirac user i really miss that option (possible with Dirac on Pc and minidsp) and it does give a better freq response around the cross over.
I am not sure on this one, I am just new to ARC. I did find that it had done a good job with the crossover point, which is why I only adjusted the curtain to 80hz, to allow ARC to do its thing at the crossover. Maybe someone more experienced with ARC will pipe up and give you a better answer.
The scrolling is controlled in your computer .. not the ARC page / software. .. I am LOVING my 1140 set up .. Not a single issue and these new speakers are freakin AWESOME .. =)
The ARC software is what is causing the scrolling issue, I have no issues scrolling on anything else. That new setup you got looks pretty fantastic, how you liking those Founders so far?
@@SpecOfTech - Interesting how we have different experiences with the same software.. Maybe browsers, OS. etc. I am still processing/breaking in / playing with settings. At first, the cross-over set to 80hz default made me think the system had no bass.. but I had to go into the WebUI and learn ALL the options for settings ..and now these are like transparent windows into the source material ... AMAINZG clarity and articulate details. I will want a sub.. and the 100F towers eventually.. but these are pretty awesome.
@@Psyphonyx_Life I only have the scrolling issue in the ARC software, it's weird. Glad to hear you are having such good experience with them so far. Are you going with an SVS sub?
@@SpecOfTech - Yeah.. I spent 3 weeks listening and comparing as best I can during all these stupid fkn lockdowns.. But im happy to have these.. Such a great balanced performance speaker. I will be looking at a dual SVS 1000 Pro.. OR a great deal on something a little more capable. (I like the 4000 driver look) I am leaning HARD away from gloss finish speakers now. The gloss is soft .. gets whirls too easily ..and dust is a pain in the ass .. so Black Ash SVS with Black Walnut Paradigm.. I hope the dealer will let me exchange. .. might have an issue there.
The Anthem is better than the Marantz IMO, but I wouldn't necessarily say far better. The Anthem does have better clarity and channel separation IMO, but it is more buggy and less user friendly than the Marantz. They both have some ups and downs.
@@SpecOfTech Stability is definitely something Marantz and Denon have going for them. I know someone who went nuts trying to navigate the bugs in the NAD T778...he returned it and got a Marantz.
I am using the STR integrated and when I setup arc for my 2 channel stereo and 2 subs and run the test, Arc can not measure the sup with the current volume and cutoff I use without ARC, I believe it asks me to adjust the sub volume and I have no idea how to adjust that? Can you help with that?
Hi , Thanks for this video! I have an Anthem MRX 1120 and I just downloaded and installed Genesis on my MacBookPro! I have to plug the microphone into one of the MacBookPro's usb sockets ? forgive me I'm starting! thank you for your indulgence!
When I run ARC and then check the distances for each speaker and sub it said 12 feet. I measure them and they have different distances. Should I change it or leave it like that?
Nice video. I'm using it for the first time on Paradigm 120Hs. Trying to find directions - not sure if I do each one independently. ARC did find each one, as well as my upstairs Defiance X12 sub. Thought I read somewhere that one 120H is a master and the other is paired with it.?. Just thought I'd put it out there in case anyone has used ARC with the 120Hs. Only comment I have is about the microphone ... I did see that your's, like mine, has a white circle sticker on it; just below a small opening. According to the sticker's words, this opening should face the front of the room when using. Not sure how much difference it makes if it's not facing forward. Would be nice to see a video of ARC being ran on the 120Hs. I just watched your video on them. I guess you replaced your Klipsch 8000F with the 120H.?.? (that's what I did, even though I did like the 8000Fs). Thanks again! and keep up the great work!
Wish I could edit a post. Anyway, when in ARC Genesis software there is a blue 'Pairing' item that when clicked on gives very specific and good directions on setting up one 120H as a Right speaker first using a USB cable. Sorry for all the words ... I should have looked at it first. Like I said I'm very new to using ARC at all and figuring out how to use it on the new Paradigm 120H speakers. I'm sure you will enjoy yours immensely.
Unfortunately I haven't had the need to use ARC for the speakers themselves, my AVM70 has ARC built in so that is what I used to EQ them. The Klipsch RP8000's feel like a lifetime ago for me lol. I replaced them with the SVS Ultra towers, replaced those with the Legacy Audio Focus SE and the replaced those with the Paradigm Founder 120H. All great speakers in their own right.
question about connecting subwoofer to avm 70 processor i have a svs pb16 ultra that has both an rca and xlr connection the RCA connection does have an LFE indication, but the XLR connections do not would also like to connect this via XLR but will I not lose the LFE functions?
Well if you are using a crossover on your speakers then high freq ext won't really do much, because the subs will roll off with your crossover point. The minimum correction freq just applies ARC to as low as 15hz. Hope that helps...cheers.
Hi I just got my Anthem MRX 540. 2 things; How do you get rid of the fan noise, I still haven’t done any firmware update since I opened the box, does the firmware update get rid of it or shall I buy internal replacement fan or something like ac infinity fan for external use. And I realised there is no option to set the speakers either small or large. Many thanks.
Hey Ray, the fan noise can't really be dealt with other than replacing the fan, which kind of sucks. Anthem handles things differently than Denon and Marantz. Essentially you have full control of the crossovers. If you want them to be full range, then just set the crossover to 0. If you want the fronts to play the bass along with the subs, the setting is called Super Sub Fronts. I hope that helps.
Tough for me to say, I have not heard the Anthem AVR's. I imagine the sound quality will be close enough that the MRX740 will suffice. As far as I know they both use the same DACs, so I don't think there would be any discernable difference in sound quality. Hope the helps.
sorry if im dumb but is anthem arc the same arc that hdmi uses? coz i thought to use arc room calibration i just needed a receiver and tv that supports it and the use an hdmi cable not a special anthem receiver..
@@SpecOfTech oh i assumed i just needed to have an arc hdmi and it would magically allow you to callibrate lol my bad i didnt realize they were seperate things ill probably just stick to sonys str az5000es built in calibration once i get it

Anyone heard the 1140 and the avr30 side by side and can compare? Not after people going from reading forums or bias to 1 Co. But actual unbiased comparison? Not talking about dirac/Arc but sound quality!/signature
@@SpecOfTech Right on. What about just comparing the sound quality with and without ARC turned on? Perhaps you could use the same tracks as you did before and record the sound for A/B comparison sake? Thanks for the consideration!
You are talking about Rumble Filters...correct? I don't use a rumble filter on my setup. From what I have read they don't really do a whole lot of good. If your subwoofers can handle low frequencies, I would say don't use it. If you feel your bass needs to be trimmed, then I would use other ways like room treatment and eq to solve those issues.
ARC doesn't NEED the distances since ARC does his room correction in the frequency domain only. But It's important to enter the distances in the receiver for sync purpose. About the levels, only active speakers (So mostly only the subwoofer(s)) should have levels ajusted prior to ARC.
I am going to have to release another video that covers ARC more in its entirety. I realize this doesn't cover everything, but that is why it was just a beginners guide. The more I get into Anthem and ARC, the more I realize it is definitely not for the inexperienced...cheers.
After the room correction uploaded to your MRX....how you have to remove it again from the MRX witout resetting all the parameters like network settings...
I am not really happy by the result after the correction. I already adjusted the levels with my anlogue DB meter, but I also want to try again with no room corrections and only adjusted with my db meter.
When you open ARC Genesis, there is an option on the left hand side to Remove ARC file from device. That is the option you want to use. It will remove the Cal file, but will leave the levels, distances and everything else the same, it only removes the Cal file.

Sorry my friend, I think you are talking about Audio Return Channel (ARC)! This ARC is Anthem Room Correction, they are 2 totally different things. But, you may need to turn on some settings within you LG TV to get the Audio Return channel working. If I remember right, it was labeled with the CEC in the menu, something like that. Sorry man, it has been years since I had an LG TV.
First turn on CEC on your tv. (Each tv manufacturer has their own proprietary name - LG calls it SIMPLINK, and I believe pioneer still calls it Kuro Link!) Next turn an CEC on the AV Receiver, As ARC -(audio return channel, not Anthem room correction in this case remember) works with CEC. Next you have to build an input on the receiver(on the Gen-3 and previous gens, ...the new Gen-4 have a preset ARC /e-ARC input out of the box) but still need CEC turned on first, as I’m sure will be the same case on your receiver. But you MAY already have a pre made input for the tv/ ARC. Remember, Athems have 2 ARC, where as most brands ARC refers to only the Audio Return Channel. Only Anthems have 2 ARC, the audio return channel and Anthem Room Correction. Good luck.
Issue: Not able to upload ARC correction from PC to receiver. I am using 64Bit Windows PC. Description: I bought my MRX1140 receiver on 04/09/22. I did the initial setup and connected to both Ethernet and Wifi. Checked IP and ensured that IP is using ethernet. Ran ARC correction and saved the file. While uploading the file, it is getting stuck at 82.7% complete and then not proceeding. I am getting an error on the PC screen stating "ARC lost connection to device. Please power off and try again." I did power cycle the receiver and still have the same issue. I deleted the old ARC correction file, thinking it may be corrupted, and re-ran the ARC correction again. While trying to upload, the same issue. Lost connection after 82.7% upload completion. I did system and network reset and performed all the previous steps, same exact response from ARC software. Please help.
Sorry to hear you are having issues. It sounds like your unit may need to be flashed, but before jumping to conclusions I would contact Anthem. Here is a link to their contact page, they may have an easier fix. www.anthemav.com/support/contact-us.php
Once again a problem! Normally I look TV ( Sony 83A90J) through a setopbox, but if using the apps on the TV, not able to tranfert the audio through the e-arc connection (no signal)! Also the fan in the MRX is very audible and disturbing! Even the reciever is placed behind a massive wooden oak door of my tv cabinet under the TV! I think by now this is already my most bad buy in so many years of home theater equipment ( Parasound, Sunfire...)
When trying to listen to the TV through EARC, do you have the receiver set to ARC? In a lot of cases your TV needs to be set to send the audio signal through ARC. I am not familiar with the Sony interface though, I have LG. Check your TV sound settings and see what the options are. If you are really unhappy with it, it is probably best to return it and get something else.

Don't you make adjustments after running the annoying mic calibration? I fixed my center channel vocals emensly. I wish that my unit had memory settings for true night settings.
The room calibration is mostly to help the bass response and to integrate the crossover frequency properly. Thanks for watching.
@@RJ-xj3ct Yeah I would say it is a solid performer for my needs. Build quality could be better, some of the plastic build seems lack luster, but just be gentle with it. It has worked pretty flawlessly for me.

There is a little dot on the mic indicating forward. Point that dot to the front sound stage. (EDIT, somebody else already pointed that out. I'm leaving the comment up because its important)
Thanks for useful video, I’ve never owned an Anthem receiver or used Arc, so this video will be useful to understand the basics. 🙏👍🏽
System wide target is super powerful... man ARC looks like it’s the jam
Thanks for sharing.
I thought I heard the dot should be pointing towards the front wall from the listening position.
Does the unit run hot all channels driven .
Thanks
Thank you very much for showing us how to set up Anthem Spec of Tech. This will be very beneficial for me once I get my hands on an MRX 740
Does Anthem your it ? Will you rather get a MRX 540 or a Marantz SR 5015 ?
@@lucgagnon7169 I went with the Anthem MRX 740 & hired a remote calibrator. I am thrilled with the results & performance of the 740
That’s good to know. My AVM 70 is on it’s way and this will be my first time using ARC.
Thank you, I will give that try when I get a chance...cheers.
Nice job!
Awesome, I am glad this helped my friend...cheers!
I hope you got it working. It connected to the Computer

Have you check arc mic input sensitivity? Can you share what the mic input sensitivity is? You should check arc calibration using an SPL meter too see if arc is calibrating everything properly
Thanks for sharing.
Do you have a moment to share how you check the mic input sensitivity
and are you just sending a tone to measure with the spl meter the arc calabration before and after ?

Tough question but I want to move from my denon x6400h to separates is there a noticeable enough sound difference to offset the huge cost difference
Excellent content as always! I’ve currently got the Paradigm premiere (bookshelf & center) for my main soundstage and just ordered the Founders series bookshelves and smaller center channel. I’m not sure if you’ve heard anything on the new series but man am I excited to get them broken in and rerun ARC!
as per the manual the light on the front of the mic should point towards the screen
I didn't see you mention downloading the microphone calibration file?
Great videos. I love how you admit you’re only human and make mistakes. Lol. Thanks for the HONEST, frank review again my friend !
I appreciate that, thank you, and you're very welcome I hope it helped. Cheers.
Thanks for the video. Were you planning on revisiting the Marantz comparison with room correction?
Thanks for another great video!! Very helpful.
I did like this review...no nonsense...simple and precise...thank you...
Glad you like it...cheers.
Thanks very much, well explained, one question, what is that big grey thing on your right? 🤔
That's a 24" subwoofer.
That is huge, my subs are 12 inches, must sound awesome.
I emailed Anthem this past week on subwoofer phase alignment and calibration - here is their response:
Automatic Phase Adjustment and Subwoofer calibration will be added through ARC Genesis for the AVM 70/90 at a later date through a firmware update. At this time we do not have a timeframe to provide on when this will be available.
Set your unit up for automatic updates so you know when the feature is available.

am I gonna have problems in setting up the mrx 740 arc? great vedio
Now that you upgraded your processor and speakers, did that lower and/or get rid of the hissing sound that came from your previous speakers?
Thanks for the clear "how to". You mentioned your subs go down to 8 hz; what brand/model are they? Also, have you tried other room correction like Dirac Live? If so, how do they compare?
In this video I was using a Funk Audio and Harbottle Audio subwoofer. I have since sold those and bought 3 JTR RS2 subwoofers.
Nicely Done.
Does the unit run hot even with the fans ?
Thanks
No, I have never had an issue with heat.
Great video...just bought an mrx720. Trying to understand it's capabilities. Can I take, say, 4 measurements for individual seating arrangements and then swap between them on the avr? If so, do i change between them via a laptop or does the avr have that facility? Thanks.
Yes the Anthem can do 4 individual measurements. You can swap between them using the menu on the AVR or swap between them quickly using the web UI.

Why you don `t use the Curve editor and added the correction frequency. ?
I can’t wait for mine to arrive. I ordered a month ago but no signs of it yet!!
Did they make that little? Or is it that popular?
I think they are quite popular right now :).
AKM(DAC chip) factory fire has limited production and the amount of units available.

Nice walk thru :)
Does ARC have the option to sweep while bass Management is active?
As an old Dirac user i really miss that option (possible with Dirac on Pc and minidsp) and it does give a better freq response around the cross over.
I am not sure on this one, I am just new to ARC. I did find that it had done a good job with the crossover point, which is why I only adjusted the curtain to 80hz, to allow ARC to do its thing at the crossover. Maybe someone more experienced with ARC will pipe up and give you a better answer.
@@SpecOfTech
Fair enough :)
Maybe browsers, OS. etc.

Hi, may I know how to listen quieter sounds of the movies at louder. Dolby does it but it does not support height speakers
So would you say this Anthem is far better than Marantz now that Arc is fixed?
The Anthem is better than the Marantz IMO, but I wouldn't necessarily say far better. The Anthem does have better clarity and channel separation IMO, but it is more buggy and less user friendly than the Marantz. They both have some ups and downs.
@@SpecOfTech Stability is definitely something Marantz and Denon have going for them. I know someone who went nuts trying to navigate the bugs in the NAD T778...he returned it and got a Marantz.

Does ARC calculate the speaker distances ?
I am upgrading from Denon 3700 to AnthembAVM 70. I am using a MiniDSP 2x4 HD for my 2 subs. Is ARC good enough to get rid of the mini DSP?
When I run ARC and then check the distances for each speaker and sub it said 12 feet. I measure them and they have different distances. Should I change it or leave it like that?
What about the AVM90? Haven't seen any reviews of that unit.
Not even ready yet - google AKM factory Fire.
All great speakers in their own right.

i have a svs pb16 ultra that has both an rca and xlr connection
the RCA connection does have an LFE indication, but the XLR connections do not

No you will not lose the LFE function, xlr just provides a cleaner signal, but its the same signal.

Hi there, I need your advise what happens if I put high frequency extension to max and also minimum correction frequency to max. I have 1 subwoofer.
Well if you are using a crossover on your speakers then high freq ext won't really do much, because the subs will roll off with your crossover point. The minimum correction freq just applies ARC to as low as 15hz. Hope that helps...cheers.
Do you have a link for the ARC toolkit you bought to use with the software?
The measuring kit comes with Anthem and Paradigm products.
@@SpecOfTech Much appreciated! and great video, thanks for taking the time do do this.
When do you set the speaker distances ?
Sorry, I made a mistake by not covering this in the video. The distances need to be set before running ARC.
Anyone know about a 50-60 hour break in/burn in period, before the AVM 90 reaches it's full sonic potential?
Is there much difference in sound quality between Mrx 740 and 1140. I dont need the extra channels or the power but I do want the best sounding AVR.
Tough for me to say, I have not heard the Anthem AVR's. I imagine the sound quality will be close enough that the MRX740 will suffice. As far as I know they both use the same DACs, so I don't think there would be any discernable difference in sound quality. Hope the helps.
I doubt it - same power and same DAC. Just that 1140 has more channels
sorry if im dumb but is anthem arc the same arc that hdmi uses? coz i thought to use arc room calibration i just needed a receiver and tv that supports it and the use an hdmi cable not a special anthem receiver..
You're not dumb, but in this case, ARC stands for Anthem Room Correction. It's the room calibration software that Anthem and Paradigm products use.

Why not just increase the subwoofer db on the speakers tab instead?
Anyone heard the 1140 and the avr30 side by side and can compare? Not after people going from reading forums or bias to 1 Co. But actual unbiased comparison? Not talking about dirac/Arc but sound quality!/signature
It would be great if you could update your 7706 vs avm70 head to head video now that you have arc enabled.
I agree but, the Marantz is sold now. Would have been great to compare Audyssey and ARC.
@@SpecOfTech Right on. What about just comparing the sound quality with and without ARC turned on? Perhaps you could use the same tracks as you did before and record the sound for A/B comparison sake? Thanks for the consideration!
Rumble effect? How to make use of this feature best?
You are talking about Rumble Filters...correct? I don't use a rumble filter on my setup. From what I have read they don't really do a whole lot of good. If your subwoofers can handle low frequencies, I would say don't use it. If you feel your bass needs to be trimmed, then I would use other ways like room treatment and eq to solve those issues.
One key thing for us new owners. ARC needs your distances and levels adjusted beforehand.

Good luck.
How did you save an ARC file? I just completed a 7.1.4 and I don’t want to do this again. I only saved a PDF
In ARC genisis just save file, and it will save the file if you ever want to edit it or load it again.

Here is a link to their contact page, they may have an easier fix.

no calibration file for the mic?
It automatically recognized my microphone. There is a download on anthemarc.com if you need to download the calibration file manually.
What Subs do you have ?
JTR Captivator RS2's
Great video.. I just got my unit yesterday and downloaded the 64 bit version of ARC Genesis software today (1.3.25) and it keeps crashing after the AVM is found and you click Continue or let it count down. I've tried 3 different laptops / PC's, same issue.. Does anyone else experience this??
Contact Anthem, it sounds like your unit may need to be reset (flashed). That may fix the issue.
Must have the latest firmware before using ARC.
@@jasonc331 I'm running the most up to date version (I think), the update tool says no new updates. Are the current firmware versions posted anywhere? This is what I have MCU Version: 00.54/00.03
DSP Version: 03.00/05.80
Build Date: Feb 4 2021
Any insight or help is appreciated.
@@mikezosimadis9531 I have the MRX740, all versions seem to match. What I had to do was flash from the unit, factory reset then flash again the network module was updated. I think somewhere on the anthem page it tells you it's the networking module that has to match (I think) mine is 1.54.106.
Definitely a big learning curve when it comes to ARC.
@@jasonc331 Finally heard back from support - they asked me to RMA the unit with my dealer. Dealer won't have a replacement unit for a few weeks they said. :(
Hola. Por favor alguien sabe porque me da error por haber ruido excesivo, cuando no hay ningun ruido de nada, estoy solo en el sotano y no se oye nasa, apague hasta las luces y nada, no hay manera. Gracias de antemano
Contact Anthem.
Common guy, we don't need calibration. A tape measure and setting up the EQ to our taste. Personally I think that I can do much better for my personal preferences. Don't you make adjustments after running the annoying mic calibration? I fixed my center channel vocals emensly. I wish that my unit had memory settings for true night settings.
Come on guy
The room calibration is mostly to help the bass response and to integrate the crossover frequency properly. You are right, when it comes to the higher frequencies I prefer to let my speakers do what they are designed to do. It also matters greatly if you have your room acoustically treated or not. Thanks for watching.
lol off topic but is that an Acer Nitro laptop?
Yes sir an Acer Nitro 5. I had to supe it up a little for video editing etc, just put in a 1TB NVME SSD and 32GB of Ram.
@@SpecOfTech ah interesting. You recommend it? I been thinking abt grabbing one for REW and for my little brother to do some light gaming.
@@RJ-xj3ct Yeah I would say it is a solid performer for my needs. Build quality could be better, some of the plastic build seems lack luster, but just be gentle with it. It has worked pretty flawlessly for me.
As of Dec 2021, ARC Genesis requires a switch under Setup > Speakers called Test Noise to be switched on or ARC will give you an unhelpful message of a “Critical Audio Problem. Please check microphone and speakers connections.” A nice amp, but really poor instructions.
I only find out that I need PC in the same room with my Anthem...I dont have laptop...and there is no mobile version for android...
They show an Android version on their website, but I just now tried to download it and it doesn’t work. So you are right, it shows it’s available for download but there is nothing there…weird.
Great video. Is it possible to trick the ARC software to think you have an MRX on your network? Possibly with a saved file. I don't have an Anthem yet, but would like to mess around with the software to see if the MRX 740 will work for my system instead of the 1140. I want to see how you can matrix the amps.
If someone sends you there saved ARC file measurements, you could play around with it. I am at work and not near my computer or I could send you one of mine. I assume that this way could work for you.
@@SpecOfTech Thanks. Could you send me one when you get a chance please. How can I get you my contact info?
@@MurTEL My socials are in the description, come join one of my facebook groups and message me on there with your email address.
Download ARC and use Demo mode
@@andrewmorrison8033 There you go, that sounds easier than what I said lol. I still have a lot to learn about ARC.

Anthem tech support says the very first thing you do before launching ARC is to do a quick measure and calibrate your subs . . . Must have missed that part, huh?
Weird, in Athem's own ARC Genesis guide, it doesn't state that at all. I guess you and the Anthem Tech Support must have missed that part...huh?
