I am an integrator out in ABQ, NM, and the biggest seller in my builds lately have been thr Anthem MDX-8 and 16. Using Anthem ARC has seriously elevated our customers' listening experience throughout their homes because they can have a (relatively) flat frequency response while maintaining the customer's respective aesthetic and architectural choices.

Just got my MRX740 which replaced my HK AVR 7000 which had died. Awesome machine! Easy to set up especially with the web based computer interface. Installed a couple Def Tech DI 6.5R in ceiling Atmos speakers and a Martin Logan Dynamo 1100X sub to round out my Def Tech based 5.1 base layer. I ran ARC correction profile in the Auto mode. Couldn't believe the difference ARC made from my previous setup which I calibrated with an SPL meter. Will re run it with using your tips.

Up until now, I’ve been enjoying the sound more without ARC. The bass just became leaner with ARC on. I’ll give a go again. Thanks also in advance for the room treatment video you plan to do. Thanks, Gene!
You precisely described my situation in my listening room and the path to optimisation. Tho I did not use Anthem software, this is how I went. I have a room of ~ 40 m2, on the 2nd floor (next above the ground floor) in a wooden building, that is rather resonant at base frequencies. After moving speakers and furniture for ~ 1 year, I could not find satisfaction in sound - lacking base, glassy highs and blurry soundstage. Tiring for more than half an hour of listening. Al last I invited a sound engineer and we went after that 1 dB/octave slope of in-room response. Measuring the h out of the room with REW, then minor speaker repositioning, then added a carpet and wall gardines, then re-measured and finally manually DSP'ed frequencies and impulses using some pro.software. That convolver file was uploaded to my subsonic dot org server. It may sound easy, but it took the sound eng 12 hours of his work and about 20 hours of mine to do this. And it was worth the effort - the difference in sound is literally palpable and listening is not tiring anymore.

I bought an AVR 740 and had a lot of issues when first running ARC Genesis, partly due to my Wifi devices not being visible to my ethernet devices. I am very happy with my Anthem MRX 1120 receiver. I have the Revel f226be/c426be LCR and use ARC Genesis with great results. I use a miniDSP 2x4HD for my dual 18" subs. I was able to get a beautiful frequency response from 10hz to 20khz after fine tuning in REW first, then running ARC Genesis to smooth out the results. If I ever decide to upgrade, I am tempted to get a high end processor with Dirac and separate ATI amps.

Cool vid bro, I haven’t even used Anthem, but I have heard audible differences toggling subsonic filters on my pre-amp. I think there’s a certain harmonic reinforcement going on. Or maybe the switch has a Q wide enough to cross into the audible band. But The apeakers I was using didn’t seem to be full range. But they did have 12” passive radiators. Driven by 10” woofers, and dual ports in between the driver and radiator. They were some soft dome technics with paper mids. Their bass was generous, but probably only 30hz, in the end I had radio running in two rooms and hearing the Piano on my concentric Kef Q-7’s made the Tecnics sound like chalk. They’re still in the garage gathering dust. Subsonic dust! ha ha nowadays I wonder if it was the electronics. Anyway, whatever that subsonic filter did, it was very audible.

Gene, are those the Focal Stellia? They look sharp. Are you testing those for a review? I just got a pair of Focal Clear headphones and I love them. They are hooked up to a Schitt Audio Jotunheim 2 headphone amp which is hooked-up to a Bluesound Node 2i which gets its signal from Roon (I stream Tidal). I noticed on your desktop, you had the JRiver app. The recent video you and Matt did on Tidal vs Qobuz was interesting. I bet Audioholics fans would like to see your desktop headphone set-up, what you think about the Focals, maybe talk about Roon vs. JRiver and do you stream on that set-up or listen to files from your hard drive? Matt (and James) always do a good job with that stuff and the channel hasn't had as many headphone videos as years past. Also, do you have plans for Shane to review the Anthem AVM90 in 2021?
Sorry to hear you were underwhelmed upon first listening to the Revels. I can't believe it. I thought Jim Garrett, Senior Director of Product Strategy at Harman, confirmed to Audioholics that this model is supposed to be the new flagship over the Salon2? Unless I'm thinking of another Revel model (I thought it was in the vid you interviewed him for the JBL HDI series)? Anyway, you will get that sorted out in time. Be patient. You will throw some curtains on the window and do all your tricks to make it perfect. I was wondering if those tweeters are aimed way over your head or maybe it was just the angle of the webcam?
Also, when you do your next vid for this room, can you please talk about whether it is true when doing critical listening on 2 channel audio, it is important not to have anything between the speakers? Another UA-camr (one of the guys you mention often believes in nonsensical things) said having obstructions between the 2 speakers impacts the stereo image or soundstage in a negative way. Could that be contributing to your problem? One thing I just thought of when I first heard you say the sound was off, was if you tried listening with and without that coffee table where it is? It probably isn't throwing off a lot of reflections with all that stuff on it, but just a thought.
Anyway, thanks for the vids. Remember, about a year ago, how crappy you felt with Covid and just know if you give yourself a little time, that room will sound great!

So here I am in 2022 and just purchase in the uk this AVM 70. Whilst I have tried to run arc and very pleased on how it sounds for films etc, my burning question for @gene is how would you set your front speakers for pure stereo and no sub? Would you set fronts to "Flat "and "superbass" enabled for them and still have arc room correction? As you can see I am very confused even after watching your video because you still used the sub for stereo. I would really appreciate any input on this thank you.

Thanks Gene. I've got an Anthem MRX1120 and absolutely love ARC. One thing that ARC lets you do on a multi-channel system is set the correction frequency by channel. This is interesting, because I also just watched your video from several months back about intelligibility issues with home theater speakers. One of your suggestions was not to use room correction. However, another finding was that it can be helpful to boost your center channel in the 2K - 3K range. I'm wondering if you've tried this or would recommend this? That is, keeping the correction frequency on the other channels to 500Hz or so, but setting just the center channel to say 2.5kHz to help with intelligibility? I'm planning to try it out, but wanted to get your thoughts on if that is a good or bad idea.

I have a MRX 11.1 and it work really well with ARC system. The only comment I have on the ARC system is there is no personnal EQ in it. I mean you cant setup a EQ on particular speaker. All my speaker are not exactly the same, they dont sound "exactly" the same, so an individual EQ to all speaker would be very nice to adjust for the difference between speaker. The ARC system already have all the power of Digital EQ so they can do it. I already give the comment to Anthem a year ago no answer and still nothing change. Doesnt have to be more than 6dB to help personnalise your system. ARC is to much automatic and "pre-preset". From my point of view, the day they add an individual EQ for personnal adjustment or personnal taste, ARC system will sky rocked in advantage compare to other system...

I heard recently. House curves are obsolete.
That Harman studdies were done pre LFE and now post LFE in a mix, a 10dB curve is default already in the mix
So basically if you have a 10dB slope u'll end up hearing too much bass since it's already accounted for in every Dolby/DTS mix
Gene have you heard this before?

1.what is and what is the purpose of dolby offset/calibration level in the LEVEL CALIBRATION menu? do i leave this a 0 db when setting all my channels levels prior to running ARC to get reference levels at 75db?
    2. Can i play with (up or down) with the calibration levels once ARC has been run and uploaded? sometimes i feel ARC puts levels too low. is the idea that speaker level should still be at 75db reference after ARC has run? or not?

Using an mrx720 granted an older version of arc I experienced a lot of issues with the automated system. Noticed voices cut out of music and bass. Went into file and it was arc. Despite settings it rolled off the top of each speaker at 20k even though settings were at 5k. After a lot of trial and error, sending files to anthem...arc is best turned off. The anthem equipment is fantastic but the arc software even set to only 200hz I found still cut certain frequencies out. To be fair I'll need to update, setup, run readings, go through files, do listening sessions, go through files and see if there's been any improvements in the last couple updates... but I have little hope.

I have the new MRX 1140 and the ARC Genesis Beta software calibrated my system to 85dB. This resulted in a much harsher and abrasive sound than standard calibration using an SPL meter. After much tweaking and frustration, I finally have it at a calibration level that is comparable with my old Marantz SR5010. The old Marantz still sounds better and that is very disappointing since this receiver costs about 4x as much and is much newer. As much praise as these products and room correction software receives, I'm left wondering if I'm missing something here.
