Angles Way Long Distance Trail. Part 2 - Fritton to Beccles. Solo Wild Camp. Tarp and Hooped Bivvy.

- In this video, I am continuing with my hike along the Angles Way on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. This 93 mile long distance path follows the river Waveney from its mouth in the Norfolk Broads to its source in the Brecks and beyond.
It is a trail I have been wanting to walk for a long time and seemed right to take this route back to where I started this walking adventure all those years ago and thus completing the route - almost circumnavigating the county of Norfolk.
I have thoroughly enjoyed walking this first section, 34 miles so far along country lanes, past wide open areas of wetland and open water and along side the beautiful river Waveney. This episode covers the walk between Fritton, with its unusual ribbon lake, through the countryside past stately homes and quaint villages and into Oulton Broad where the path takes me back out to the river once more.
I was exhausted after a big 18 mile day, so a bit of dinner and an hour or so sat beside the river enjoying the calm views and a rum sun-downer before zipping myself into my bivvy for the night. The morning brings warmer weather and the last few miles into Beccles - an ancient market town dating back to Saxon times and the end of this leg for the time being. Ill be back to continue the walk later in the year.
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching.

Can we appreciate how Simon wakes up twice in the morning to film himself getting out of bed EVERYTIME? Great effort mate, keep it up!
So his second breakfasts are actually third or 4th breakfasts?
Just finished watching part 2. Very good as usual and the honey chicken stew was quite substantial.
At 43 my wife still has to get me up for work
Good Nz morning Simon. Aaah it's good to see you eating a brand of Nz dehydrated food. Not sure if it's OK to drop names, but that brand has enough calories to get you up to 1500 mts or more when hunting Himalayan thar mountain goat, which are now a pest here.
Just a quick Q and A. Apart from filming, do you also keep a journal. Because your journals if available online would be a great go to source of information, if any like me wanted to do these walks. Just saying. Thank you again for sharing. Take care. Ps..have you done the Pennine Way.?
id love to see all the outakes one day, just to really see behind the scenes
Simon you are one of the nicest people, you are never negative, even when you said about getting run over by kid's on their motorbikes you still laughed and saw the funny side of it,when I've had a stressful day and I see one of your videos ready to watch I know I'm going to be totally relaxed,so thank you, your an absolute legend.
Simon, your country side and along the river is truly a lush green paradise, absolutely gorgeous. The contrast of machines sounds and bird song was a good addition. I appreciate your historical commentary as I know nothing about your country side. The thatched roof church, hundreds of years old, is quite a treat for a Tennessee boy. I hope your music accompaniment continues just like you like it. Man, the music is wonderful. I appreciate how you leave your camping spots perfect, clean, respectfully restored. I don’t expect we’ll ever meet. You can’t possibly get to know me like I know you, through your videos. Just know that this old East Tennessee boy enjoys every video you share and I consider you my friend. I wish you well and hope you’ll continue as long as your good heart will allow.
This is my stomping ground. My house is even in this one. Brilliantly done mate. Lots of people don't get what we've got here at all, you showed it off very well.
I moved to Norfolk 14 years ago… and it was like ‘coming home’ ❤
Always a great day when Simon uploads :)
Well, I finally made it to the UK. Well, I feel like I did anyway after seeing this video. The amount of planning, effort and just plain hard, hard work you put into these videos is not lost on me, Simon. You need to know that you are greatly appreciated. God Bless, Simon.
Love part 2 Simon - you should’ve been sponsored by Norfolk and Suffolk tourist boards!! Thanks again for sharing!👍
Just got back from New Zealand. The Back Country meals are inoffensive; they give you calories and they are not outlandishly expensive. The Beef Teriyaki wasn't half bad. And, of course, it was very generous of the Kiwi to send you a meal. The fact that you didn't comment on it made me laugh - very diplomatic of you.
I love hiking, wild-camping and bushcraft. The world is wonderful when pared down to necessities and digested in slo-mo. It makes you appreciate the luxuries we have, even more.
I will be eternally grateful to the people (UK) who maintain our ancient rights of way and to the pubs along the way. ;)
A picture of a smiling child....😂. It must be good.
Grwat work mate.
We really enjoyed part 2 Simon, thank you so much for all your dedication and hard work.
Simon you are an awesome content creator. I look forward to all your adventurous posts.
THANKS SIMON…for taking us along with you on your beautiful hike…ENGLAND is truly a wonderful and beautiful Country! GOD BLESS YOU ALL…FROM EAST TENNESSEE AND ACROSS THE BIG POND!👍🙏🇺🇸❤️
You know what would be an interesting and different episode for your channel? An unedited outing with outtakes, running back for the camera, bloopers and all. Show exactly what it takes to create a smoothly edited episode.
Photography is beautiful! Ana I love how you tell the history of places 👍 Ana I love your channel ❤ I’m not from the UK so all of this is so amazing I’m from Southern California, we have beautiful places to go to also.
Never let a busted path get in the way of a proper ramble....soldier on!
Hi Simon. I've just spent 6 weeks in hospital but couldn't comment or view comments. So here's a Thank you for for all your work on making such awesome content. And keeping helping me stay sane'ish🤪🤯
Thanks Simon, I really enjoy your walking videos, you do an excellent job with the narration and cinematography. I almost feel guilty for lounging at home watching while you are doing all the physical effort to bring us the experience.
Time to take a break from working in the sun, grab a sandwich and a cold one, and join Simon, once again. Cheers from California!
From the summer of 97 to the summer of 2000 my wife and I were stationed at RAF Lakenheath. The first year we lived in West Stow near Bury St. Edmonds. I love seeing places that we visited back then in your videos. Thank you!
What a pleasure its been tagging along with you on your Angles Way Trek . All those extra miles do add lots to the videos Thanks Simon for a very pleasant trip.
Lovely part of the UK Simon, showed off as always superbly - ATB, Chris

The one and Only Simon! thanks to ease my evenings .
I used to ride my bike to work from Gorleston-on-Sea to Beccles in all weather and absolutely loved it, epic journey 🔥🥊💖
That was just so absolutely peaceful and beautiful scenery. Just the perfect video to watch this afternoon while I am sitting here at the computer, except that people keep interrupting me! I watched it three times just to enjoy the surroundings. Honestly, just some of the very best content on the Internet! Take care and be safe out there! Can't wait for the next adventure! 🧡🧡👍👍
You've really excelled with this series, Simon. Fantastic filming! It's almost as if you had a film crew following you about.
Thanks for all the hard work you put in.

Interesting walk, beautiful thru the marshes. Always appreciate the history lessons. My Dad was a P-47 pilot, so I had to look up the Fritton Lake crash. I'm sure there were many similar instances.
Another great video. Thank you. My legs feel knackered watching it 😊
Legend mate really love you videos, takes me away from the stress of life sometimes.
Top man

Absolutely beautifully filmed, especially that grand old oak tree 🌳 Wow! 🤘🤩🤘
Yeayyyy another Simon video!! Thank you.
Aaah yes, the special Hot Chocolate.... for soothing and medicinal purposes. 😊
Wonderful journey. Thanks for all the history. Appreciate you mentioning about the American Bomber crew by that beautiful historic church.
The time & effort that you put into getting shots that show the nature of where you are walking amazes me. Thankyou very much.
The walking sticks do make reasonable poles for a tarp shelter.
You thank us for watching but we entirely thank you for doing! I’ll bet your trek along the river brought back some great memories of paddling the river. I loved the tree arch with the ivy growing about it at the 33:40 mark. Great stuff!
Lovely Crow sound i the background and Pigeon plus other small birds
Wonderful 2 parter Simon. Really enjoy these. As always thanks for doing what you do. Really appreciated
Truly inspirational Simon! Makes one want to lace on the hiking boots and just hit the trail.
Relaxing to watch is Simon always great content and things to learn from the master bushcrafter😂
I love watching your films, I live just outside Bungay and have travelled the Waveney by water many times, is so fantastic to see it from your perspective especially st Michaels church where my father was the organist and choirmaster. I can't wait to see more of your adventures, totally captivated!
Thanks simon for taking us on that lovely walk with you,18 miles in a day pfffff, fair play to you.
Always love that you show low, to no impact camping , well done sir.

Hi there, Just to say thank You, Your videos have inspired Me to get out and have a solo camping trip.and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loaded up My old Volvo estate with My camping gear and My mobility scooter, and went to the Savernake forest Wiltshire, England. I am leg disabled so I went to a campsite as I can have My car close by. I took My tepe style tent and I set up a large 4m square DD Tarp over the top. for cooking and heat I have a paraffin wick stove, and I have a twig burner as well that performed great at boiling up a cowboy coffee. Because it's England I had three days of glorious sunshine then a torrential downpour with thunder! But because I'm English I was prepared and took gear to cope with Four seasons weather. I had a ride through the ancient forest to see the giant trees and thousand Year old oaks. I had planned a relaxing time and the atmosphere and ambience of camping made Me feel wonderfully relaxed and refreshed, it was a lovely experience that I can thoroughly recomend. Thanks Again. Jahmahrah
A slug of rum and I'm anyone's darling ☺. Glad you found a camping spot . I was beginning to worry.
I need a little of Uncle Simons relaxation
I’m watching this out of sequence. But a beautiful part of the English countryside I’ve never seen on UA-cam before. Superb guide on this journey. Cheers Simon.
Loved Part two......Superb photography as usual Simon. That dehydrated Chicken meal looked good and obviously went down well followed by the Special Hot Chocolate 😂😂😂...Looking forward to Part Three now 😊
Im so please in was lucky when as i was coming out my house as Simon was walking past while he was going through Oulton Broad. I got to quickly stop and tell him in person who great i think his channel is. A top guy and his videos are great.
Hi Charlie! It was great to meet you briefly - nice place to live mate! 👍👍
Thanks for posting this comment. What fortuitous timing! It is truly an honor and a shining moment for you to meet Simon and chat for a while.
GREAT Walk and lovely countryside! Always love your peaceful videos. Thanks for sharing! And ATB.
Looked like an incredibly relaxing part of this hike. Love this time of year for bird noises and perfect temps 👌🏻⛺️
Another excellent production really enjoyed it Si 👍
Nice to see a good old school back tombasics walking video, 😊
Hi! Simon... thanks for another great video. Stay blessed.
Lovely walk and another thoroughly enjoyable vid . Nice one 👌🏕
Hi Simon, saddened to learn that your dear old Maggie is no longer with us, but Im sure her spirit still roams the East Anglian woods and fields, its hidden lanes and peaceful rivers and streams, bless her. Sadly the gift of a dog is only ours to love and protect for all too short a time. But there is dnother dog somewhere not far away who needs you to give to her/him all that you gave to Maggie, and who will repay your kindnes with the same tender love and liyalty that Maggie blessed you with in the companionship you found in each other. It would not be a betrayal of Maggie to take on another dog, but rather an affirmation of all the love and joy she brought into your life.
I'm sure I will not be the only one to rejoice upon seeing you and your new dog-child/loyal companion exploring together in your beloved pastoral Norf/Suffolk idyll. I can easily picture you with a lab or a golden retriever, looking so right and at ease with each other. Go for it buddy, you wont regret it and you will never forget dear Maggie, while your new dog helps you through the pain of losing her. I wish you well, and hope to see you with a new buddy pup soon. All the best Simon, stay safe snd keep these super videos coming, we enjoy them so much, God bless you.
I love it all: the folk music, the scenery, the cinematography and editing and of course the actual content. I never watch as soon as the video comes out - I save it for when I have time to dim the lights and grab a beer and relax with no distractions. Lol, sorry for gushing :D Also great to see some Backcounrty Cuisine. If you thought that portion was generous wait till you see the porridge supreme! The “1 serving” meals they do aren’t too filling though. Kia ora to the fellow kiwi who sent that one. Ka pai!
Remember, everytime simon either walks away or against the camera, he has to come back or have already been there 🤣
Thank you , Simon .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
Another great one Simon. Thanks again.
Love your videos, thanks for taking us with you, love the history the UK has! You should come to New Zealand and do our Great Walks, you’d love it!
Many thanks for all the effort in bringing it to us. Been out the country 20+ years and the sound of pigeons took me back to my childhood. Best wishes 🏕
do not always comment but always enjoy nice one
Thx so much, ur extra mile efforts so much appreciated
So fun! I feel a little bit like a tiny miniature hitchhiker sitting on your shoulders or the top of your Hat! 😁…and away we go 😉
Great video. Amazing scenery along the way.
Chilling in bed with the Part 2 video during a week off. Bliss. Thanks Simon.
As always absolutely awesome
Such a shame the lake is now a private retreat, it's bordering on criminal.
I didn't realise train spotting was still a thing, the anoraks may have changed but I bet they still have the same Christian names 🤣
Brilliant walk in countryside so beautiful and different to my own.
😂😂😁
Brilliant channel ❤
Nicely filmed Simon. Not sure if it would have helped you, but I believe there is still an on demand ferry that runs from the Waveney River Centre at Burgh St St Peter to Carlton marshes. I went to school in Beccles back in the ‘70s and it is indeed a lovely town.
Amazing adventure! So glad you brought us along! You're incredible!
Great couple of videos. Looked like a good walk. Keep up the great content.
Hi Simon watched both part’s what brilliant videos super locations Well done. Take Care All the best. Cheers. B. K
Loved this :-) * Thanks Simon, The call of thw Mooo...! :-) *
Just finished watching Part 2. Most enjoyable as usual. The meal looked pretty substantial.
We love Wednesday evening.
Thank you!
I didn’t know Fritton Lake was closed! Have some good memories of boating there 😢
Great walk Simon ~ brilliant scenery.
Some of the scenes by those gateways are wonderful!
First in 👍 well done Simon, good to see the Swiss Army out doing service again
Loved it 👍
The boatyard at Somerleyton was at one time owned by Sir Christopher Cockerall, the inventor of the Hovercraft. He also designed and built some iconic designed Broads hire cruiser, which were unique and perfectly designed to go under ALL broads bridges. I believe he also did some experimental work on his hovercraft theories before the SRN1 was built.
Wish I’d know that before, I’d have said something about it! Thank you Neil! 👍
Maybe have some hot chocolate with your rum Simon?😂😅 Another epic video; I always finish them feeling so chilled out after a busy and usually stressful day😊👌
These last to videos just highlight just how lucky we are to live is this part of the Country. We love South Norfolk and North Suffolk, when we go away in our Motorhome for a weekend away we tend to gravitate to the Borders of both Counties, which is about an hour away from North Norfolk that we live in. Toward the end of your video we noticed the house on the river bank with plenty of different types of watercraft. Both me and the wife said that we would love to live there. We were on that stretch of the Angles Way on Monday on our way back home and stopped off in Beccles for a wander around the shops and a walk up the river. No doubt me and my youngest Daughter will be paddling from Geldiston to Beccles when we are at Geldiston for a weekends break, as we paddles to Bungay and back last time on our sit on top. This time we have our own Kayaks to paddle in.
