People at Warhammer World: "Let me guess, you going to ask " Would we be allowed to use this obscure and old mini in game ?" "
Ages ago, I meant to try to annoy them by asking if the cardboard Ork dreadnought from the second edition box set was tournament legal… only to learn that I was *far* from the first person to have had that idea ._.
@@youdontneedtoseehisidentif4939 I assume it is?
@@youdontneedtoseehisidentif4939
If you stick it on an appropriate sized base I don't see why not 😂
Matt Lee To quote Snipe quoting the Warhammer World staff: "Eeeuuuyeah, whatever, yeah, sure, okay (provided it's on an appropriate base)"
@@Edithae it's a GW legal model. And it's supplied based is 25mm. Which means you can legitimately model an ork dreadnaught on a 25mm base.
Snipe: "we're about to just flood you with a bunch of information that will have zero use for you"
Me: no i need it
"Jokes on you. Superfluous infodump is my fetish."
I mean, I spent over an hour listening to someone talking about battleship armor, and I have no desire to ever construct, design, own, or fight in a battleship.
I might actually own a pewter mini some day.
Who doesn't?
@@TheSYLOH Drachinifel?
@@comrade_commissar3794 Yep, love that guy's channel
"The manfish is a weird synthesis of man and fish"
Either WG got the intern to write descriptions, or somebody was being paid way too much.
I'm pretty sure that no one at GW is in danger of being paid way too much, except maybe in PR, Sales, HR or management
Behold, the greatest thing GW forgot about since Zoats!
I mean, we still don't have Eldar on dinosaurs...
@Cernunnos 2024 with early edition point costs that'll probably only be 25-35 of em.
@@wmcduff I believe in you! You can kitbash Eldar on Dinosaurs! I know you can!
@ReallyBurntToast if I remember right tyranid negotiators.
With Zoats, I still get why they got rid of them; terrible concept, ugly models. Fimir were cool though, I´d love a Fimir warband in Warhammer Underworlds, imagine that!
New favorite hobby; finding the most obscure, unheard of, unusable models that were technically produced by GW, and insisting they're tourney legal, and wysiwig
i have an old Doc-Bot mini from the Paranoia range in my Chaos Squats army, among other obscurities
I am pleased by the fact that this could all be complete fabrication and I/many viewers would never, ever know because of how obscure it is
In my D&D campaign, my party was trying to take down a gang who were running a pyramid-scheme type of scam... so when they invaded that group's headquarters, I decided that since these villains were such money-grubbers, they'd have 'bargain basement' minions/guards. So all the monsters in their headquarters were the ludicrous creatures from Fiend Factory. The Glue-Mummy, the Niblog, the Russian Doll Monster, and of course the Stair Stalker... who my party loved so much that they eventually became a massive part of my campaign world.
Thank you so much for introducing me to that slice of D&D/GW's history!
I need to know more about how you made the stair stalker a "massive part of my campaign world". this is required learning.
Snipe and Wib: release a video
Me: "INITIATING DEEP STRIKE INSERTION"
what. why.
"This will be Zero use to you" I feel like the last time I thought that when watching that was the Monster Manual episode. Which then had me using a Psymule in my pathfinder campaign. So this should be good!
This was great, loved all of it.
This sounds weird and wonderful just from the title, can’t believe this was a thing!
Soooo much of ancient 80s Rogue Trader was just mad gibbering and people having fun making stuff!
Warhammer world staff must have a board titled "incase of whack ass minis" With the listed response being
"umm urrrgh *mmmmm*"
Would love to hear your thoughts one day on the editions and modules that GW produced for Call of Cthulhu and Runequest as before they ended back in the hands of Chaosium, GW appeared to have a licence to make their own version.
I know that the kaballist (so?) figure was surprisingly accurate and respectfully done, though the other two Jewish figures in the line were not so much
IIRC there's some warhammer connections too, like how the Beastmen were originally Broo from Runequest
I might still have a copy of GW's Runequest around here somewhere; the one where they gave the option to be a Sorcerer, but, then, completely forgot to include the rules for sorcery. 😂
@@AndorianBlues Oh yeah! I remember asking one of the Chaosium folks about the Broo connection, and they brought a surprisingly complicated timeline. Sadly, I've forgotten it. There's a lot of mixing, though.
1:07 I think Snipe just had a quick existential crisis
snipe.exe has stopped functioning
Stuff like this is one of the many reasons why I love the Rogue Trader era. The setting hadn't been nailed down yet, which allowed for all sorts of weird and wonderful experimentations like this. Time to add these fishy bois to my "races/factions that aren't dead despite what GW says" headcanon for 40k. They seem like they'd be a good fit as allies/slaves to the Pisceans.
Now someone has to gift Wib a 'Nev'.
I imagine these Manfish still exist in the 41st Millennium: coming out of shorelines and marshes to raid settlements, shoot a few guardsmen, and vanish back into the water. They don't get dealt with because the Imperium just has way too much on their plate.
Thank you for such a deep dive into the lead belt circa 80s
Hell yes.
These are some of those models that are over on Warmonger, Casting Room and Foundry miniatures websites. Lots of lovely stuff there, but these have always caught my eye as me and a friend group have always had Fishmen being a recurring joke. Always been tempted to pick one up at least.
Man fish is back on the menu boyz!
almost spat coffee over my berzerker champion reading this, thanks
Yeah, and people thought that "Fish Fingers" was fine; but totally turn their noses up at "Fish Legs"!
Allowed to use them? That goes against their new policy where you can only use the models currently in production… Wow. Time to start a Manfish Army.
That's a new GW rule?
@@mrbearbear83 Sadly.
When Zoat army isn’t obscure enough for you!
Would love to see a manfish army dough.
There would be quite some possibilities about their background and alignment.
@@lordhamster9452 A dedicated "Xenos Alliance" army would be fun. A force made up of all the random alien creatures that have fallen between the cracks in 40K's galaxy, and banded together for mutual protection.
@@Bluecho4 yes that sounds good.
To defend from the darkness of the space.
Some may say that it sounds too much like Tau empire. But I don’t think that it’s a problem.
I love that you live close enough to Warhammer World to ask them if you can use all these really old, obscure models. Please continue to do so.
I love that you check whether every old model can be used at Warhammer world. It's my favourite part of Codex Compliant!
What a great story. Can’t imagine where you’d begin to start making a video on a subject like this
Honestly this is one of my favorite codex compliances, it’s such a cool topic and something I’ve genuinely never heard of before.
I honestly think this is one of the channel's best videos yet. The time, effort, and skill that went into researching this incredibly niche topic is very impressive.
Oooooh, early Rogue Trader oddities! Lovely stuff!
I seen em on wargame foundry but never knew full story. Neat
I just noticed that you're coming up on 40,000 subscribers, the most appropriate achievement for any 40k-themed channel. Congratulations in advance for when you reach it!
So many odds and ends from that era. Truly buckets of inspiration for modern Warhammer...
I remember seeing these way back when I first started playing. Now I feel old, and this mold is literally older than I am.
That’s exactly what my small green child looks like when I tell them no McDonald’s
You are just 600 subscribers short of 40k subscribers. That sounds like a very channel fitting milestone 😀
Man, they should do some kind of video for that. Maybe a video about warhammer?
Nah, that'd never work.
Oldschool minis that touch three of the big pillars of nerddom and refer back to two other videos you've made? I think you're closing in on the next boss of your adventure!
The NB wolf marine scheme is awesome
Goodness...first Leutin, then Oculus and Baldermort, now you guys upload new videos. The last few days have been glorious for me!
I'm surprised you guys managed to resist making a Mighty Boosh Old Gregg joke at some point in the video!
keep waiting for this channel to blow up, deserves far more subs
I really miss all the kooky weird stuff that was in the hobby when I was a kid. Loved the video and really glad you can still source these adorable models for a reasonable price. Keep up the sterling work!
Every time you do a rogue trader thingy I just want to find a reason to include them in my games some how
have Snipe and Wib ever talked about Noise Marines or Emperors children?
Hey, I've got the third fish from Wargames Foundry! I though it looked familiar. Cool to hear he's got a little bit of history to him!
maybe a video about the guys who invented and sculpted for GW in its early days such as the perry brothers, bryan etc. and looking at what they are doing now could be an interesting video
*Warhammer world Employees:* "And that's why I think the new Mechanicus models are... oh no! Run Hide! I sense a change in the warp currents, *They* are coming!"
*[Door kicks open] Wib:* "Greetings, fellow Zoats! We have a question!"
*Snipe [Brandishing weird early 80's sculpt]:* "Do you have time to talk about our Lord and saviour, Fish-face?"
You're dedication to historic journalism does the emperor proud :]
What do you mean "This information will have zero use to you"? I now know of miniatures I can acquire that I can use for uncontrolled figures in both Frostgrave and Stargrave that are visually distinct from anything anyone else is using, and I have a bunch of random information about them that I can offload onto the people I play against.
I remember working in Mail Order in 97 for a short while and we used to try and convince the small children that fishmen were being released including pikemen 😂
I remember fishmen being bait and switch for a possible new whfb army as late as 2008
@Sloveneanon that would've been cool, right up there with an insectoid Fantasy race in the "cool shit that GW never did" rankings.
Great video. I've eyed up these Fishmen/Man fish at foundry a few times. I think it might be time to pull the trigger!
I'm amazed you were able to say so many variations of "manfish" without throwing in an Old Greg reference!
A couple of decades ago there was a running joke in White Dwarf made repeated references to an apocryphal "Codex: Fishmen"
5:07 woah you indirectly helped me identify a mini i got, i bought a lot of fantasy stuff from a guy and one mini was a werecat thing that looked way older than the others there and i noticed that the pose was similar to that one weretiger drawing on the lower right. And yes, it is a Citadel weretiger. Thanks a lot guys.
I love how the undercutting of the mouth/teeth outclasses anything in modern plastics. Humourous.
Honestly with the size of these things in modern 40k, you could prolly do some light green stuff-ing and pretend these are grots
Great video as always! I didn't expect fish people to ever have been part of Warhammer kinda sorta.
Always wanted these models to fight as generic aliens in some kinda casual 40k story game
Foundry Miniatures is great. They still do some of the late 80s Perry sculpts for fantasy as well
Yes, you can do pretty much an entire 3rd ed Empire or Bret army...if you fancy remortgaging your house. Foundry pricing is as bad as GW.
@@blastvader still cheaper than eBay 😂
@@steveharbour845 on that point I really can't argue...I'm a slave to it regardless.
Wow, never new those models had such a storied backstory :D
Ok, Snipe's "Mmmm..." at 3:15 needs to be a dono notification for the twitch channel.
Missed this one, so basically got two vids from you guys inside a week.
10/10, would miss again to be pleasantly surprised later.
These history videos are amazing. Thank you so much for putting in the effort of researching all this and creating these informative videos for us! Keep up the great work you two! :)
Marius Leitdorf tried to warn us about the fishmen! And they called him mad! Mad!
Why is this Codex Compliant stuff so good and interesting?? I NEED MORE
While advancing across the battlefield the marine squad pass a door to a storage building. Opening the door you see a spelter of (D6) Man-fish. Roll a D6 and consult the 'What the Chuff!' reaction chart.
Oh wow- apologies if someone’s beaten me to this observation, but Pisceans are back in the 40K universe in Necromunda’s Book of Shadows supplement! They’re chummy with the fairly Lovecraft-adjacent Delaque, and it’s their extracted brains that are flying around in the new Spektor model.
Yes. Must feed the engagement algorithm. It must, be fed. Also on topic, I had no idea how much I needed really old and weird Manfish The Fishman today. But I did. Thank you. All the love.
I wonder where that fish can be?
It is a most elusive fish…
Ok, I’ll stop. It was just in my head throughout that video.
Now, I can't get those long, wiggly arms out of my mind's eye. 😂😂😂😂
I have to stop watching your random miniatures video: i always end up wanting some too.
Those are good, fun, and characterful minis. If they were created for use in Laserburn, they'd be Giant, Ferocious Manfishmen. Wib's paint jobs on those minis are really sharp; especially the work on the guns.
HERE IS SOME WORTHWHILE AND CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENT, Praise be to Al Gor and his wonderful Rhythm!
This video is top notch. Love these deep dives into old school stuff!
The weirdest deep dive but overall 10/10 for enjoyment. Would watch again.
The Marauder Miniatures adverts in White Dwarf included artwork for models right up to the end of the '80s and possibly into the very early '90s. Those adverts did seem pretty odd to me at the time, all the regular Citadel Miniatures models were advertised with photos.
Your collection of early Rogue Trader models is very impressive, both the collection itself but also their paint jobs!
omg, that chainsaw warrior with chainsaw... i remember as a little kid in one of my first white dwarfs there was a showcase of a imperial guard army, and he had a colonel model that i could never figure out what it was, and now seeing that im 99% sure its just that model with a boltgun swapped onto it
the nb flag space marine at 2:49 is amazing!
I swear, every time these Fishman are on screen my mind immediately plays murloc noises XD
GGRRREBBLGGGRRRGLLL!!
A lot of old foundry sculpts are a lot of fun to paint.
I’ve never been to warhammer world but from what I hear the staff really get up in your face in an attempt to get you to buy something, so I ask: WHAT DID YOU DO TO THOSE POOR SOULS
Codex Compliant is my favorite thing on UA-cam bar none
Alsways so much fun. I love codex compliant. Thanks guys/gals. You two are just awesome.
The title of the video is a perfect title for a Pulp Cthulhu adventure
1:05 I love that part. The head tilt and facial expression. Nailed it. :D
Also love the NB flag on that Primaris' kneepad. Nice touch.
Excellent research into some truly obscure oldhammer history. GW´s reuse of models or model parts from their other games (Judge Dredd, Paranoia etc.) is a fascinating and murky subject. Like how one of the first 40k inquisitors was a mixup of a chaos warrior and a Judge Dread General... awesome. Thanks for the vid.
ngl, i actually love these minis so much
Is it my birthday? Oh wait it literally is!!! Thank youuuu
Happy birthday, random stranger!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday. I hope you get a manfish.
god, thats space crusade music brings me back...
The guys at Wargames Foundry are completely bonkers and I love them.
I think it would be cool if snipe and wib did retro battle reports of all these old relics of game systems
The manfish look more intimidating next to the Lazer burn miniatures more than the newer space Marines
Except that next to the Primaris Marine, they're small enough to remind me of Murlocks from WoW, and now I'm getting flashbacks to getting swarmed by tiny, murderous fishmen.
_mrrglrlrlrmgrrr!_
@@iapetusmccool I forgot about the murlocks yeah I see the resemblance
I really like the Manfisch :D. Weird monsters are way cooler than random demons and dragons. Cool video.
My wallet MAY regret me watching this video soon, but the rest of me is deeply entertained.
Oh, I think I called it. Fiend Folio 1st Edition, page 57. While the entry is named Kuo-Toa, description does include them being called men-fish. Not to mention, a design closer to those figures than Spinescale is.
... I have a sudden urge to re-theme my old Sisters as cultists, and replace the attached guardsmen with fish-men. :D
Y'know, in my high school, guys called each other 'big scaly manfish' when we thought we couldn't get away with calling each other 'handsome.'
Thank you sooooo much for mentioning the site. TWW 07, 😆
What is he doing with those fingers, also where have they been.
Uggh, want BA001
You kind of missed a chance to air this on the Winter Solstice so you could use "It's beginning to look a lot like Fishmen" for an outro.
These guys have such a great sense humor
For the Engagement: Praise our overlord Lady Snipe!!!
I have been reading up on old White Dwarf issues. While I have yet to notice them, they might have not appeared in White Dwarf at all. Rather, they could have appeared in Fiend Folio, since many entries ended up there than in WD, as mentioned in one of the columns.
I'd love to see someone homebrew a believeable in universe 40k lore entry on the Manfish and that Wolfen dude because it'd be funny.
I still hope they update the Fishmen Codex in Warhammer Fantasy: the Old World.
My guess is that they duck under the counter because they think that prolong exposure to you will open a rift in time and space and bring them back in the 80 or 90s.
