I stumbled on a 10-minute infomercial of her teaching this swing approach as I was sitting in the parking lot of the golf course waiting for my golfing buddies to show up. As I got to the first tee box, I took a few practice swings using her method and hit my tee shot straight and long down the fairway. It was amazing. I had my best round this year. In fact, my golfing buddies that I play with every week were shocked. They've never seen me hit the ball so consistently and so long. And I never told them what I was doing differently. Call it beginners' luck or great instructions but I'm hooked now. I plan to watch ever video she's ever made!

Fabulous lesson! When I watch Erika teach, I am reminded of something my Aikido sensei told me 20 years ago: ''Women learn these movements much quicker than men.'' What he noticed is that Western men are very proud of their arm strength and therefore overly rely on their arms; whereas women overcome the strength deficit by learning to coordinate their hips, arms and shoulders -- as a whole. There are many flowing, circular movements in Aikido -- very similar to a golf swing. And I'm reminded of this whenever I see Erika teach. Her approach is the epitome of ''effortless effort.'' Men in particular have a lot to learn from her.

Similar to another comment on this video. I was up early and saw this video before I went to play golf last Thursday. I chipped a bit before the round and then turned the driver upside down on the first tee, took a few swings and then teed it up. Longest drive on that hole ever and second shot flew into the back bunker. 9th hole par 5, I’m 225 out downwind waiting for the green to clear. I was laughing at myself waiting. I hit the 3 wood to the back of the green for a 3 putt par. Tension has always been by biggest nemesis, this small drill made a significant difference. I will turn 80 this year and I’m getting ready to have my lowest lifetime index. Thanks folks!

There is lot of kinetic energy and centrifugal forces at play that are not seen but felt. Golf swing is a feeling and can never be described with words fully. But Eric you do a good job at it with your study of the craft and your passion. So does Erica.

Perfect explanation of the difference between a hitter of the golf ball and a swinger of the golf club. This is what swingers do. This method not only helps with your sequencing, it makes it easier to switch your focus from the ball to your actual target.

That clubhead last take away is what I learnt from Peter Croker of Australia many years ago. I take the club away by turning my hips subtlely while applying light pressure to push the club against the ground. The movement of the hip creates movement for the left shoulder and left hand to push the handle to take away first.

This video is similar to what Dr Kwan teaches except much much easier to interpret and implement. This is by far the best golf video I have seen.
If you look closely at some of Bobby Jones old videos you can see his swing sequence is exactly what is being preached here. Pay particular attention to the shaft of the club on the take away.
    This is absolutely brilliant.

I've said it before, you are my two favorite internet coaches. I bought into the True Swing concept several years ago. Glad Erica is now putting out content on a frequent basis. Eric is the best at working with other top level coaches and bringing their ideas to life. In this video, it is my observation that at the start of the swing Erica's hips accelerate a bit more than Eric's. I can see Erica creating momentum and "tossing" her arms up and over via her hip motion. Eric's initial hip movement is very smooth but with less acceleration. It looks like Eric is slightly lifting his arms as opposed to letting them swing up on their own. Am I seeing this accurately? I have come to like the experience of using my hips to start the swing (as this video describes) and generating the momentum to swing/toss the club to the top as it makes it easier for me to be patient and to wait until I actually get to the top before starting into the transition/forward swing. Do you guys truly advocate no lifting of arms or is some blending of lift and momentum acceptable or preffered? Great video. Thank you.

    • @PerformanceGolfZone
      @PerformanceGolfZone  9 місяців тому +1

Hey John! Thanks for the kind words and support!!
I think those are all fair observations!
The arms will have some IN and some UP....so there will be SOME LIFT.......but for most you dont want too much.
To define that you would look for the lead arm to be roughly on the same angle as the shoulder line at the top of the backswing
I think this is a good one to explain that more:

The tour striker device from Martin Chuck is actually a flail. The wooden baton it the handle and the rope is the swingle. In days of old the joining device was a leather thing. If you study the physics of the flail your understanding of the golf swing will deepen significantly. Study both the action ( physics ) and geometry.
That was an excellent video. Erica Larken appears to be an excellent teacher with a superior understanding of “SWINGING” ( Bobby Jones )
An interesting comparison would be Lee Trevino where the club is “carried” back and up which is then launched by the pivot action and driven through impact with trail arm thrust.
You have presented a worthy video indeed !
    Thanks and Cheers

About a month ago I had my first lesson with the local pro and I was whipping the club way inside on the takeaway. I was rolling my hands etc. causing all kinds of issues.
I worked on the prescribed drill for a few weeks. (Taking club back straight first couple feet etc.) That takes a long time to feel natural.
Totally randomly, I saw the momentum move video before my second lesson. I realized that the slight club drag that starts the momentum move shown here cures the inside takeaway “for free”.
So I try the momentum move on the first few swings of my second lesson and I hit the ball significantly better. The golf pro is like “wow your takeaway is fixed.” Then he says he wants me to complete my turn, so I “step on the gas” and really let it fly. It is Stripe City. Instructor then says, “I love that slight forward press to help get your body turning. You must be a very instinctive athlete.”
I didn’t have the heart to tell him it was the momentum move from Erika/Eric.
    Thank you!

Golf greats Harry Vardon and Bobby jones had a very slight drag of the clubhead. Bobby at impact his hands were forward of the ball where Vardon was even. Both was long hitters when needed. In a major Bobby played a part 5. 605 yards long at that point nobody had eagles it with a putt. Bobby hit driver-spoon and canned the 5foot putt. The hole was slightly uphill and took decades before a player could eagle it. Both Jones and Vardon had tension free swings.

Instead placing another ball behind the ball she was going to hit, she placed a tee about 12" behind it and made sure to knock it over on the way back. She also delayed her wrist cock. When her hands were just about waist-high, there was still a lot of lag with the clubhead. Her wrist cock occurred at the top of her swing. ua-cam.com/video/uErEJR-JVHo/v-deo.html

It is amazing but true that most golfers don't know how to swing the club and some who do it correctly don't even know why, as you really don't have to, since conscious thought is the nemesis of the swing.
I know that does not make sense, but in large part it is my experience.
I use a caddy drag, and most don't even know what that is, even those that are doing it. Positions: Bah Humbug!
I think push down, turn, drop turn. Newtonian physics ever action an equal and opposite reaction.
Finally match you swing to your gate, how you walk, which is unique to you so should be your swing.
    That's it in a nutshell.

      3. Do I need to increase my speed
Beyond that we would need to see your individual swing to diagnose and give you the fixes!

Dynamic loft is a major problem for me, swing speed is not that great (100-105 MPH with driver), and smash factor could be improved a bit. I hit every club too high with too much backspin. Have tried everything I know to correct this, but no success yet.@@PerformanceGolfZone

Great stuff, excellent to uncover new thoughts on how to start the swing. Love it, but gotta give a shout out to Dr. Kwon who has been recommending the 'rope drill' for years now. ua-cam.com/video/0hyrcov8lz0/v-deo.html

That's what I don't like about these types of "guest" videos. The host asks questions in a manner that wouldn't need a reply from the guest because the host gives the answer during the question. There's no reason for the guest to be there. The content is good which is what matters but nevertheless, the host already knows the answers.

    False. Starts with wrists

No, it starts from the ground up. If you start with your wrists how do you get the body turn with more passive arms?

Sorry but this is far away from all other coaches and even from what Eric shows in his videos. So much lateral movement of the head will not work for most golfers

    • @brianschultz7320
      @brianschultz7320 9 місяців тому +6

Not really. She’s just exaggerating for practice purposes. Your actual swing won’t have this much sway. She’s trying to show you how to be more fluid with your arms and body. Padraig Harrington recommends the same thing when practicing.

This type of thinking is what keeps golfers from actually improving. What she is demonstrating is no different than what Athletic Motion Golf, Dr. Kwon and many other top instructors advocate and what top tour players actually do in their swings.

Very similar to Dr. Kwon’s biomechanics application to the golf swing. This might appeal to folks not familiar with torque, physics, and angular momentum.
