2 Nights Alone in the Wild with a Tarp and a LifeStraw - a lil Wild Camping Adventure in the Forest
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 гру 2022
- My first multi-night camping trip with a tarp was wonderful and frustrating in equal measure, in a beautiful late-autumn mountain landscape. I also tried using a LifeStraw for this trip, which I really enjoyed! It felt so ‘free’ not having to lug water about, but it did require some acrobatics haha
Weights..
Rucksack base weight 9.3kg
Food 2.1kg
Waist bag of filming gear + tripod 3.2kg
Total 14.6kg
Thank you so much for watching 😊 Much love, Claire 🌿🐻

Claire is a life straw to all of us allowing us to gulp down her niceness and cheerfulness
Ahhh thanks how sweeeet 🤗
She is a total joy. Love her posts.
Well said 😊 totally agree. Great videos as always Claire 😊

I've used a life straw before, great idea with the cup. BTW keep a little bag of coffee grounds in your bag and spread them around in the inside of your tent to repel slugs. It works great. Thanks for another video! Respect form your friends in Florida USA 🌴
Claire you have the energy and innocence of a curious and carefree little girl, and it looks so good on you.🥰
I have an absolute phobia of slugs. How you was so calm. A tough lady in all weathers.
I have been camping in all kinds of weather for about seventy years and I appreciate what you show in your videos. I like to see the equipment you have and the techniques you use to cope with wet and windy weather and the way you keep a cheerful attitude in spite of all. You are an inspiration. Thanks.
Thanks so much David, means a lot especially from someone as experienced as yourself :) Merry Christmas to you and yours 🤗🎄🎅
Can’t wait to settle down and watch this on the big screen, better than anything on the TV
Especially seeing the slug on a 55" telly
@@harryvanrijn6366 😄
Aw yay thank you 😊
Must agree with you on a quality show vs the large percentage of crap called tv in todays world
4:44 wow!
Claire, you are such a resourceful beautiful person 😊
I think the 'Life Straw' would have to be substituted by at least one can of cold beer.
It’s so odd that we go to beauty spots and 99% of people are tethered by invisible ropes to cafes and toilets just in case .. very very few actually venture far off the beaten for very long , you are totally inspirational and I will extend my little forays further each time thinking of your fabulous example , a woodland fairy made of steel ! 😊
I love your vids, your resilience and enthusiasm are inspiring me to get out there too
Thank you so much 🤗 happy trails :D 🌿
Hi si ok :) do you struggle to get out too?
@@hArtyTruffle I did it for a summer 5 years ago. I lost my job/split with ex and thought fk it why not? It was awesome but I had to come bk to reality when I ran out of money lol. I've re-brought my gear inspired by this awesome lady and am going to start again in February m8 👍
@@siok4375 I’ve been collecting gear for the last few years. Once my health is up to the challenge, I’ll be doing it too… as much as humanly possible 👍🏼
@@hArtyTruffle progressively longer walks m8 while adding backpack weight, you'll get there 👍
Wild Beare, where I live we have bears, coyotes, mountains lions, but never have I seen anyone "attacked" by a slug!!! I've marathon watched 90% of your video's, being new to watching you. But out of all, this one made me smile the most. Keep up the great vids, the world enjoys them! Especially me, up here in Washington State, U.S.A.!
Heyy, ahh wow, you'd have to be real brave to camp in your parts 😃 the slug is about enough for me haha! Thank you so much for watching my lil videos, means a lot that you enjoy them :) Merry Christmas to you and yours 🎄🎅
Just found you. Honestly what an inspiration you are. You have inspired me and given me the courage to go on a solo camp and hike this year for my birthday. I turn 42 and it will be the first time I have camped since I was a child. Greetings all the way from Australia!
A way to keep the bottom of your trekking pole in place. Find a drink bottle or other plastic bottle that the hand end of your trekking pole will fit in. Cut it down to make a small cup. Put a small hole in the middle of the bottom. When needed Put the cup where needed ,put a tent peg through the hole in the cup and stake it down. Put the hand end in the cup. Now if it gets bumped the bottom of the pole won't slip.
Welcome to the forty club, may you have many more.
I don't often comment on your videos, but I admire your tenacity at trying and sticking with things. You are setting a great example to inspire future female outdoorswomen. Cheers from the U.S.
Thank you so much, appreciate that 🤗 Merry Christmas 🎄🎅
I love following you, as a 56 year old considering wild camping, you are inspiring
I loved this video 'hopefully I won't get murdered by a slug in my sleep'😂😂😂
The squeaky door hinge sound bite when you sat up 5:38. 😂👍🏻
I can't say I have ever had a slug crawl across my face, and I'm not planning on it. Thank you Claire for sharing this great adventure of yours.
I hope you don't get to experience it 😄 thanks for coming with me, Merry Christmas 🎄🎅
Claire, you are ridiculously hardcore!
I know plenty of seasoned campers who would have bailed but you're taking resilience to another level and it's a joy to watch mate, nice one! 💪🏼
Haha thanks so much Richard! Merry Christmas 🤗🎅🎄
@@WildBeare Aww, no worries Claire and a very Merry Christmas to you too. Have a good one! 🎅🎄🎉
2023 best find. Thank you
To do all the camera work, drone footage, as well as everything else by yourself is amazing, fantastic to watch 👍
Thanks so much! It's involved but I love to make these, thanks for watching :) 🎄🎅
Oh Claire, you did just make me laugh so loudly with the slug incident. I couldn't help but think of a certain clip from "There's Something About Mary" 🤣
Thank you for taking us along on your bonkers adventures. Hope you have a Camp planned with a full Christmas Dinner 😀
Merry Christmas Claire
🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Hahaha I thought the exact same 😅 thanks for watching my lil vid, I've not had time to film a Christmas dinner camp this year unfortunately but I did do one last year :) Merry Christmas to you 💚🎅🎄
I've never seen that film, but I just watched the hair gel scene on UA-cam and it was very funny. However, a slug in your hair is not nice either.
Oh, you naughty beast!
The world 🌎 don't deserve you you are a angel from heaven.
Your videos are inspirational
My son and I were wild camping for the first time recently, and the original spot we wanted to camp had people there, so we walked off path in the nation forest and ended up with an incredible spot for our hammocks! You're right, things didn't go as planned, but probably our best camp ever!
Ahh that's amazing! Love that you're getting out with your son too 💙 Merry Christmas you guys 🤗🎄🎅
BTW Claire, I admire your resilience after watching the horrible tick episode which might have caused a weaker person to quit but not you, you keep on going. That's admirable. I don't think I would ever use a tarp again after the slug incident and go for a fully enclosed tent especially given a tarp won't keep out ticks, slugs or my worst fear spiders. You're very brave!
Keep the adventures coming!
Thank you :) yep I can totally understand the preference for a tent.. in long grass I would deffo prefer a tent too. Hope you have a lovely Christmas 🤗🎄🎅
U are brave person Claire. travel alone in the wilderness.I love your video so much.
For all the times I've been thirsty I've never been that thirsty!
Your ability to improvise, adapt and overcome is something that I admire.
Another great trip, Wild One 🌿🐻
Thank you Janne 🤗
Another great video, as always. You always seem to find beautiful places to camp with great views. Take care and stay safe.
Thanks Jay, yehh I'm quite lucky with the lil spots I find 😍 You too :)
Looking more lovely 😅 lolol
Comedy gold right there. Best video I ever saw. Love you’re passion for it even when it turns to not so much fun.
I love watching accomplished bush women!
Thank you for taking us along with you on your adventures Claire! 🙌
Claire, you are by far my new favorite channel. Thank you.
I love that you film rain when it happens at night. If the stars [or clouds, I suppose] align, would you ever consider letting the camera run all night for a long rain-on-tent-sound video? The best background noise for sleeping ever.
Thanks again for the amazing videos. It's wonderful to vicariously experience such gorgeous wild camping from across the pond, and your lovely positivity is contagious. Cheers!
You clearly have full confidence in the Life Straw. Makes me think I should have one on hand.
You slept for 9 hours in the jellyfish tent.
You are amazing that you can sleep so comfortably
in the mountains under the rain. (From South Korea)
I am a follower of your channel for 1 week or so. In every video I wait for your "it´s so cosy in here". 😀 You not only pursue an outdoor channel, you are a very authentic person. While and after every video I got warm feelings.
Aw that's so nice ☺️ thank you so much and welcome to my lil channel :) Merry Christmas! 🎅🎄
Claire,
We kinda take it for granted but you're all alone so you are your own camera person, how did you learn your skills for cinematography? You have great camera work, multiple camera angles including aerial shots all edited perfectly. Did you go to film school?
What cameras do you use ? How do you achieve your camera setups? What editing software do you use? How do you blend it all seamlessly together including the music?
Maybe I'm asking too many trade secrets, sorry.
It would really be cool if you did a behind the scenes video explaining how you are able to create the magic being a solo production crew of 1 person.
Anyways love the work! Keep the adventures coming!
You had nearly had me convinced that even I could tent camp until... SLUGS!!! o-my-effing-god! No way! 🤣🤣🤣
SLug is bad.. leach is worse :) You always have a smile! Thank you.
i so wish i had your confidence, and mobility !! You my love are an inspiration thank you for videos xx
This is so cool! I love all of it 😊I particularly love that you show and comment the struggle of putting up the shelter.
So incredibly brave if not a little mental, I totally admire what you do, keep up the great work x
Hahaha thanks Adam! 😊 Merry Christmas to you & yours 🎅🎄🤗
Brave but she's NOT mental for sure
Claire, you make the most delightful little exclamations. Lovely.
Your a joy to watch for us old couch potatoes Claire. 😊👍
I can just imagine a park ranger driving along and finding you face down in a puddle with your straw haha. Oh Beare lol. Tempted fate filming that slug in the evening 🤑 Always an amazing adventure watching you. Always Real and totally honest about the ups and downs of the beautiful outdoors life. Keep it up Claire. Fabulous to follow
Hahaha imagine that 😄 yeh.. I should have known the slugs were gonna get me.. that's the last time I bivi without a bug net for sure 🥴
Thanks so much Asa, hope you're having a lovely eve :D 🌿🤗
Another brilliant camp Clare. The slugs love you. 🙊 Merry Christmas to you. 🌲🌲❤️
My list of words I never thought I'd hear now include "... murdered by a slug." 😆
me quedaria eterno en esos cielos nocturnos muy bonitos
This was quite a video! I am always astonished by your ability to thrive in some pretty challenging conditions! Very amazing. I love to watch your videos as I like to hike and camp. I am astonished though at your willingness to use an open tarp and ground sheet in rain and heavy wind and soggy ground. I admit appreciate a conventional tent with poles to keep the rain and wind out. I was very entertained by the Lifestraw and of course especially how you demonstrated drinking straight out of the source. That looks super inconvenient but also looks like a very useful backup. Your videos are beautiful! I live in USA so I'm not familiar with those areas at all. The SLUGS FREAK ME OUT A LITTLE. We don't have anything like that where I am and it's likely because it gets very cold here in the winter. I can't image waking up with those crawling all over your tent and everything including your own self! Wow. Thanks for working really hard to share something really nice!
Beautiful territory Claire. Love the intro edit of the 'rude' "culprit". I noticed the quick-bog changed your plans... but as usual, you just simply keep going. Another fantastic video I smiled the entire way through.
What do you do during the week? Look at the weather forecast and think "Low pressure coming in, rain and high winds. I think I'll go camping"? Where was this adventure? Beautiful scenery!
Thanks 👍😊👌 Marry Blessed Christmas. God 🙏💖 Blessing from Iowa, USA
I absolutely love your videos. You’re always so upbeat, smiling, and enjoying the outdoors! It’s all the little quirks you have in your vids that make me smile. I always look forward to your uploads! 😎
Aw yay I'm so glad you like them, thanks so much Thomas, Merry Christmas to you 🤗🎅🎄
Thank you! You have a nice Christmas also!!!
Awww every time I watch your vids I miss you more!!!
What an amazing trip this was! I feel traumatised for you about the slug goo 🤢😂
Loved the freaking door noise as you sat up, made us both laugh! 😂
The tarp tent setup always looks so impressive!
I love your little cups, there’s no way I could be drinking water straight from the source like that, I’d fall in lol!!!!
Such an amazing video Claire, absolutely loved it! Love and miss you tons!!! 🥰
❤ totally amazing time and again , I just love these mini adventures there so life affirming . Keep up the good work your doing a brilliant job.
“If things arnt going to plan dont worry to much, because you might end up somewhere even more gorgeous”. Life quote of the day.
Superb as uaual Claire. I really do get totally engrossed in these videos , and love how they're always "warts-n-all" which just makes them all the more relatable to me. Editing is off the scale, and...WHAT a beautiful place. Snowdonia? All the best Claire.
Glad I came across your channel I already have a love for all things outdoors. But you've inspired me to get out a wild camp a lot more than I thought I wanted to. Love all your videos thanks for posting and helping me learn how to wild camp properly 😊
Hi Adrian, ahh this is so lovely, I'm still learning myself but that's so nice of you to say, thank you :) happy camping 🏕 😊
I have spent years with anxiety and depression but when I watch your content it just makes me happy. Your a sweetheart and thank you 😘
Ugh! Life straw is so annoying. You can purchase a gravity bag for it, but you may as well get a Sawyer Squeeze and use a water bottle. Oh, the slug wandering through your camp, you hair and sleeping bag was so much fun!
Quite an adventure again! You don't make it easy for yourself do you? You tell the stories of your trips so well. Thanks for sharing. ATB Roger
Thanks Roger, hehe I like to experiment a bit. Merry Christmas! 🤗🎄🎅
Another amazing video, Claire! I enjoy all your vids, but this one may be my all time fave so far. Your enthusiasm, humour and above all, your overt joy and happiness derived from simply enjoying nature are an inspiration to us all. This was a fantastic reminder that the great outdoors doesn't shut down for the winter. With the minimal amount of the right kit, winter outdoors can be as enjoyable as all the other seasons. Love the fact that you're willing to share your own learning curve, as nobody ever learned anything by never messing up from time to time. However, your solutions are always well thought through and highly intelligent, when you encounter difficulties. I'm starting to "gush" a bit now, but just wanted to say well done for all you do and for inspiring many of us to get out of the house and enjoy what's out there. Also, loved the drinking straw montage at the end [comedy magic] :D
Heyy Jeff 👋 naww thanks so much, you are too kind 🤗 yehh I wouldn't get very far pretending that it all goes to plan all the time because it usually doesn't haha! Still just so nice to be out though.
Glad you enjoyed the lil LifeStraw montage too 😄😄 Merry Christmas to you and yours 🎄🎅 Claire 🐻
@@WildBeare Merry Christmas to you and yours too Claire 🙂🎄🌟
Life straw and a cup or saucepan. I would never have thought of that. Great idea.
another great video Baby Beare....the tarp stayed up, you stayed dry ....what more can you ask for lol
Hi Claire, I've always wondered about the practicality of a Lifestraw, thanks for testing it out in a real world situation, great video again.
Thank you, Merry Christmas David 🤗🎄🎅
I live in North Dakota United States so I feel your pain on dealing with the wind! On the bright side I’ve never woken up with a slug on me haha. Great to see others out enjoying nature; thank you for sharing.
Hope you never get the slug attack 😄 thank you for watching, merry Christmas :) 🎅 🎄
Well Claire, when I see some of the country that you inhabit, with its spring fed streams and lakes, the addition of a fly-rod, reel and a handful of flies, will enhance your experience tenfold. The added weight would be measured in grams.
The art (and it is art) will lift you, truly, into the higher echelons of nature and its exultedness.
the cup is a good idea and can be used with any straw filter. If you carried a canteen or water bottle with a Sawyer and an empty soda bottle, you could refill your canteen while you sleep
As Craig Revell-Horwood would say: A MAZ ING, such adventure, slick video production and great music tracks. Such entertainment from Claire. Well done you!
Aw thanks so much :D Merry Christmas! 🤗🎄🎅
@@WildBeare And to you and your lad Claire. Quick question, where do you find your music? Er, and does your drone react to gestures? OK, so that was two questions 🙄
Claire, Claire, Claire. Good to see you out and about on another adventure.
Love the contrast of landscape colors. You are an impressive Lass as you constantly evolve in skills, gear, and mindset.
In the Algonquin Park I love so much I'd be more concerned about evening visits by bears, moose, wolves and snakes etc. Especially if my legs are sticking out of my shelter.
I absolutely love your tenacity and grit. Life isn't always perfect. But it does teach valuable lessons along the way.
Well done all around. Doesn't Lifestraw have a 3L hang up filter bag?
Anyways, I enjoyed the excursion and as someone else commented. It's better than what's on tv.
Many blessings Lass. Irish Bob says hello and enjoy your upcoming Christmas and New Years.😇🤗😎🍀🇨🇵
Hello dear Irish Bob :) 👋 thank you so much, it was beautiful out there despite the moody darkness that weekend, I loved it
LifeStraw may do a 3L filter bag, I'm not sure. But I've since got their filter squeeze bottle, which I'm loving! I used it on my snowy wild weekend (on the editing pile) and it was really convenient
You have some scary wildlife in your parts! We are quite fortunate here.. the only thing I fear here is ticks haha
Thank you for watching my lil video and hope you have a wonderful Christmas! 🎅🎄 Claire 🐻

Just realized my spelling error. Should read son.
Bloody small phone buttons. The kind of phone I need is about the size of a small billboard🤓🤓Or a hat with binoculars built in.
Beautifully constructed and filmed video.
Love everything about your channel an inspiration to all children of nature ❤
Thank you! I Have got out of the habit of serious walking and camping for the sake of just camping. Your videos are inspring me to get out there again alone and be....
As ex British Army, all I can say is well done. Now imagine doing that every night and carrying a rifle, ammunition etc then staying up during the night to stag on sentry or go on a patrol and repeat it day after day.
Even early in the morning, with a slug in your hair, you are beautiful 😂❤❤
Resilient as always! Lovely, thanks Clare!
Can you say Escargot! Great video! That’s what solo camping is all about!
I love it when say, "Let's Go!"
Then the adventure begins!
"a well slugged up pillow" lmao
I slept in the Pyrenees in the open and woke up with my sleeping bag covered in snails and slime trails across my FACE 😮. Never felt a thing… Had snails for tea that day.
Don't blame the slug, you naughty girl..... 😁
I just 💕💕💕love how you show all the dramas that can befall wild campers ... Real honest videos ... Great job ❤️
Ps you can't blame the slugs ... They just wanna cuddle
Thank for you the lovely video!
I like the fact that your video's are instructive and fun, a lot of video's are mostly people walking and talking.
Please don't change the way you create your videos, you have a unique style and it works really well.
Merry Christmas
Loved your camp out , too short though. I could watch you an your doodlebugs all night. Xx😂😂
Loved watching this vid! Slugs! Ugh! They're so gross and slimy, but watching the clips with your hair and slug slime in it, really made me laugh! Brilliant vid again Claire! xx

The best laid Plans .. 'improvisation', the Mother of Invention, sometimes slips into the pack unseen before one has even left home 😏 ..
We live in the North East quandrant of Michigan's (USA) lower pennensula on 22 acres in the middle of a pine forrest with one neighbor (who lives "across the way"). Never had a problem with slugs. Camping is easy for us. Forrest all around us with fast moving streams. There are coyote, an occasional wolf and bear are common. Thank you for your excellent vidoes and programing.
Love your videos. The slug innuendo game in this one while unintended made me giggle.
Inflatable pillows are good to have. Just blow them up when u need it they fold up great!
Good stuff Claire! Oh no! Slimed by a slug! Gross!! At least it didn't disturb while you slept. I once had a mouse run across my face while camping in the forest. That wakes one up in a hurry. ;-)
Completely agree Claire, anything outdoors IS better than mindlessly scrolling through social media and watching crap on vision box. Peeps need to get out and touch grass :-) X
Thankyou for helping me love life again. I'm not old after all .enjoy camping .going soon
Sat at home with a broken foot...these videos are making me very jealous...
Lovely Outting Clare! Thank You for sharing!
Really love the drone vertical shot of the second pitch !
Thank you Clair such great relaxing videos.
Awesome tarp setup! Thank you. 😊
I have slugs in my "den" and love them- miss having silverfish, woodlice or earwigs (and ghosts!) as we had in our old bungalow in North Beds.
El old hinge sound effect when you got up in the morning 😅😅😅😂😂😂
Beautiful
