Hyundai has come a LONGGGG way both in design and build quality compared to Kia / Hyundai of the past. in white those G80's look really elegant. glad to see Hyundai coming so far along.
i think ive heard this comment more than the hit rates of Gangnam Style... doesn't it get boring? This is interesting: a Kardashian family is banned from using UBER because she is so rauchy.... wow.
I really like this car. It is especially impressive with the awd V-8. Thanks for such a thorough walk-through, don't know anyone who conveys as much information and keeps it moving the way you do. Would love it if you could include a few rolling shots as well, though very labor intensive I know! Thanks again -
Hyundai has come such a long way, and I'm glad they have their own luxury brand now!! Looks great! I just hope they can keep the Hyundai and Genesis looking different and not use so many of the same parts. I saw a few part of the 2017 Elantra in there.
Right. I expect when Genesis launches their own vehicle that debuts under the new brand we will see more of a departure from Hyundai styling, materials, etc. I dam sure hope so anyway
Just the amount of features, amazes me! Good Job Hyundai! Edit: I would also like to thank Hyundai for listening to reviews to further imporve their products.
Hi Mike , Ive been having a hard time deciding which car to buy , G80 or BMW 340i , I know maybe there not in the same segment , but i dont know which is better
Do you want a faster car or a more luxurious car? Honestly the 340i is a rocket, but its interior is terrible...the surfaces are all hard and aren't attractive to look at. I feel like G80 has more presence on the road, is more luxurious with interior materials and has a quieter cabin. It just depends what you want.
Mohammed Abdulla 340i is at 4.5 seconds just about to 60. The Genesis 5.0 V8 is at 5 seconds to 60. The 3.8 V6 is more like 6 seconds. In real life driving you'll be well into illegal speeds quickly whichever you choose. The 340i has tons of torque though, while you will have to rev the V8 and especially the V6 to get the power out of them. Just drive em.
+Mohammed Abdulla The Genesis is also cheaper to maintain and repair. Kia/Hyundai have had some of the best reliability number and customer satisfaction in the last few years, surpassing BMW, Mercedes, and even Toyota in that aspect.
The manual key inside the proximity key is not for a backup. It's to manually lock and unlock the glovebox. The glovebox also has a switch inside of it to disable the trunk button on the proximity key. This is for when you drop your car off at a valet or to have serviced, you can pull the manual key out of the proximity key with your house keys or whatever else you keep on the key ring. Hand the valet only the proximity key and all they'll be able to do is start and move the car without being able to snoop around in your glovebox or trunk finding out your personal information or stealing valuables. My 2013 Genesis has the same system and many other cars are now offering this kind of feature.
its also incase your proximity key stops working..you can unlock the car from outside from the drivers side and then you have a pincode to start the car without the proximity key (in my car its a sequence of pressing the starter button) and then you can drive somewhere to fix your car key
Great review! Accurate info, great camera work, and precisely in depth! Also, I'm a huge fan of the G80. Have been since it's intro as a Hyundai way back when, it keeps getting better and better. Although I must say, the keyless access is a bit disappointing. I thought you could just grab the handle to unlock..thats more natural. Very small quibble though.
Eventually I'll post a longer review on Edmunds or other automotive website, but I can say that I love my 2015 Hyundai Genesis (now G80). I have over 4,000 miles on it and researched the heck out of this vehicle and test drove BMW 5, Lexus GS350, Mercedes E350 and also was short listing a fully loaded Jeep Cherokee Overland. BMW is definitely more fun to drive, but I'm a luxo cruiser type of guy. I want to be pampered and be at maximum comfort and safety with speed/handling a closer second. Also, the 311 hp gets me around pretty good. I have ZERO regrets with this car and look forward to driving my family around and making up excuses to drive this car. As a caveat the final decision to purchase was made by some good year-end incentives so I didn't pay full-price for an ULTIMATE package brand new. Also, the only difference between my car and the new G80 and my 2015 Genesis as far as I can tell is no fog lights. I did remove the Hyundai logo and put on a new rear Genesis tag. I do get compliments on this although here in Colorado I don't see to many. I have the AWD which I considered essential. Who am I as a buyer? I'm an engineer who researches the heck out of everything and try to get the absolute best deal and the most features for the least amount of money. I'll buy used most of the time and in almost every case my search kept ending at the Genesis. I spent nearly 2 years researching this vehicle. It is an awesome deal. I'm very happy.
Mike - great video. Question - even though the sticker says Premium Package, the car you showed us has the Power trunk lid and CO2 sensor, which are listed as part of the Ultimate package. How is that? I want to get Apple CarPlay, but I read you can't get that with the Ultimate Package.
That is a good question. This vehicle wasn't ordered it was sent to the dealer as a demo. It could be an error on the window sticker but I really do not know.
Insider secrets. 1. It has “four” drive modes. If you press and hold the button down, it switches to “snow” mode. 2. Traction control. Press to turn off. Press and hold and it turns off both traction and stability control. 3. Electronic brake. Pull it to put on. Pull and hold a few seconds and it tightens up more to hold better like when parked on a hill etc. next I’ll tell how to replace wiper blades!
I have a '13 R-Spec 5.0 and one beef I have is the integrated NAV system doesn't provide live traffic updates and route me around accidents and suggest faster real-time route updates/alternatives like Google Maps does for free on my phone. Any idea if this new G80 has that option? I'm very curious what the differences are between the G80 v6 and v8- outside of the obv engine.
Oh wow I appreciate the check in. Good looking out. This '17 I REALLY like. I bought my '13 5.0 in December of 2014 and just paid it off so now I want to enjoy some payment-free time but will look at a pre owned G80 in the years coming for sure, assuming it's reliability holds up. I thought only the v8 came in 'Ultimate' and didn't know the 3.8 v6 had that likes yours does. Good stuff man!
I have the 3.8 Ultimate, and it truly has every imaginable feature and option. I love the Head Up display that shows everything from speed to navigation guiding in customizable colors. Just an awesome vehicle for sure! Car rides so quite and sublime at speed that I often find myself on the freeway doing 90mph when unconsciously thinking I'm doing about 70!
I don't have the 2 door, nor would I as that is NOT the same car at all. I have the 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Ultimate. Window Sticker was $53,250. I do not have the AWD, ..that would have made the car $54K.
Absolutely beautiful, and I'm extra pleased to see how amazing the G80 is as it is going to be my next car. I'm having a hell of a hard time deciding between the 3.8L and the 5.0L, however... is there a significant difference in fuel economy/gas mileage in terms of real life usage? My understanding is that it's not necessarily great on either engine, as Hyundai/Genesis has yet to implement fuel-saving features such as auto start/stop.
There may not be a significant difference if there is a cylinder deactivation on the V8. Also you will pay gas guzzler tax in some states if you go for a V8. I would say go for the V6 and save some money.
Anirudh S Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Where I live, the v8 would not result in a gas guzzler tax, nor do the weather conditions require AWD. I'm still not certain as to what I should do, I likely won't be able to make a decision until I visit my local dealership and get behind the wheel of each. Cheers
chltmdwp I recently pulled the trigger on a '17 G80 5.0, so I'm definitely excited to hear that. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and I'm glad you're enjoying your Genesis.
Yo bro I have a question for you about toyota land crusier. Isn't toyota going to release new and more advance variant? It's almost left very far by its competitors. Like land rover SVAutobiography, Bentley bentyaga, Nissan, Even rolls royals comming along with Lamborghini and others
I just purchased a 2016 Genesis 3.8L. It looks almost similar to this one. Fully loaded, dark grey exterior & interior with shiny grey wood grain trim and chrome. It drives like a smooth quiet jet plane. It's an eye stopper, because people think it's a bentley. Mercedes and BMWs are plain janes. I owned a VW Passat as well. Great car but plain. Every year looks like the year before and the year after. Genesis is designed by Bentley's designer. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE my Genesis. www.autonews.com/article/20160515/OEM03/160519914/hyundai-lures-another-bentley-designer-to-turbocharge-genesis
Explosive Diarrhoea if you are to buy a genesis it's to keep it lmao not sell it after an year or 2. It's a very good car like the guy wrote. Very smooth and the acceleration of this car oh my god...
That alarm horn sounds like the one for my Kia Optima, if sounds so cheap, but luckily the horn sounds normal when you press it from the steering wheel.
+Bling Bling Sam I think all luxury cars, suvs, should have standard led lighting to tell it apart from the rest. need some kind of interior ambient lighting.
That panic button alarm sound could of been better. When I was 16 and I had my first car which was a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon, it had the same exact alarm. If Hyundai wants to branch off and become a luxury car manufacturer and charge premium pricing they need to pay attention to details like this. On my BMW, when the panic is triggered it has that premium alarm sound quality to it and it is used also in all of the Rolls Royce's.
this is weird. if this is ultimate u should have power trunk close and real wood finish. the rear should have control as wekk for climate and display etc. looks like u got the tech package. anyway nice vid. i got the 16' base model and its been great since i got it back n December
Thanks Mike- but No Heart to save it as my AOL Faveorite? How come? And I'm looking for their Hybrid vs the Lincoln and Toyota I'm concerned the Geneis doesn't have some Lincoln Featurs, such as teh 2 Memorey Seat buttons on teh Drivers Door and The Auto Closing Trunk, I'm Handicapped in a Power Chair and Like tht Feature on a Car, its a tough strtch to readh up and close the Trunk lid.. But Love the Auto Lift to Open it.. And I prefer either a Japanese made Vehicle ( Toyota) over a US or Korean.. But Nice Review Mike! Thank you Buddy! DTM in Fla, Wi. and Cayman Islands
lamborghinis and ferraris have a high drag coefficient because they are set up to increase downforce that said, the newest prius has a dc of 0.24, meaning this g80 is very impressive
loving this car, very intuitive features i must say, price is a bit steep though, but i guess for a fully loaded model it kinda makes sense, Great job Mike, love these reviews, but you know what, i am gonna need you to post more, a lot more of these videos. I actually had a fight with another car reviewer on youtube coz of the quality of your videos, that dude reviewed a car with bird shit all over the body, disgusting, you are my main source or car info
Well I took a dive into a new 2017 G80 5.0 Ultimate (out of my 2016 Charger SRT 392). First word to come to mind is "Refined"; then Powerful, Quiet, Elegant. It's the kind of car that puts you at ease from whatever you do in your day. Genesis hit this one out of the park. From an engineering standpoint, frame ridigity, ergonomics, fit and finish....it's as good as the best out there. If you are a true car guy you owe it to yourself to drive this car!! Don't waste time with the six - DRIVE THE V8 !!!!👍😀👌✅ Consistent unbridled power in a super buttery smooth delivery system. If you have Gobs of cash get a 550i BMW. Cause anything else just doesn't compare.
Proud Genesis G80 owner, casablanca white with black interior. My parents are leasing a white G80 with gray interior. Both interiors so beautiful. But, I fear gray interior is too tedious to keep clean.
I bought this vehicle in mid 2014, the 5.0 version....its identical nothing at all has changed in the last 3 years.(other than the genesis badge, which i bought as and aftermarket part and stuck on) If yous are impressed with this vehicle now, imagine how i and many others felt in 2014 when this landed. Only wish they would have done refresh this year so i can have a reason to upgrade.... Oh, and buddy said the corner was too much for the car, thats bull shit, its because he had his hands off the wheel for too long. It will navigate a very sharp corner on its own no issues...
I have the 2016 V8. It has way more features than this one especially in the rear seats. Also the wood trim is of a higher quality (they say it's real) but I'm not sure.
I got a pearl BlackG80 and love it - better than a Mercedes and when you take it in for service you don't pay Mercedes exorbitant prices - they take care of everything car is wonderful and I have owned many cars in my many years on this planet- my only issue with the car is it goes too fast and you don't know it- I looked down at the dashboard and I was going 80 and felt like 45- Marvelous vehicle love it total class all the way
+Marlon Johnson Thats the problem with Hyundai and Kia. They loaded their car with so much technology. They don't have much left for their luxury cars. Thats why Toyota doesn't add much technology on their car. If you want technology then you gotta step up to their Lexus lineup. Ford is doing the same thing with their cars. They have way to much technology so there's really no need to get a lincoln.
+Marlon Johnson Ya i mean technology is good but they really hurting their luxury brands. Honda and Ford are probably wondering why they dont sell much of their luxury brand.
Just purchased a previously own 2017 Genesis G80. This video was very helpful in familiarizing me with the car. Thank you!
Hyundai has come a LONGGGG way both in design and build quality compared to Kia / Hyundai of the past. in white those G80's look really elegant. glad to see Hyundai coming so far along.

There is no v8 AWD available in the U.S. unfortunately. Only in Canada. I'm in Boston so maybe I need to move :-)
So the G80 is a re-branded 2015/2016 Hyundai Genesis? Looks identical to my '15 3.8.
Great review. Thoughts on ride, handling and performance would have been appreciated.

Right. I expect when Genesis launches their own vehicle that debuts under the new brand we will see more of a departure from Hyundai styling, materials, etc. I dam sure hope so anyway
If they're smart, *which I think they are* they will create their own style. Some brands still have that issue today, like Honda and Acura.
+Xavier Urbina So very true!
great video! this video actually convinved me more to buy this car thank you so much

With the Genesis you definitely get more bang for your buck, it is very quick and very luxurious inside and out!

so mind boggling why they would do that to this car...perhaps they forgot
***** it's called details 😑
Paul it's like you being all built and having a little squeaky ass voice that shit doesn't match. Get it??
I really love the genesis! but I think they should have used the led drl strip as the turn signals. that turn signal make it look cheap.
Completely agree!
Same with a lot of the 2016 Lexuses. Unless the light module is modified dos some markets.
+Bling Bling Sam I think all luxury cars, suvs, should have standard led lighting to tell it apart from the rest. need some kind of interior ambient lighting.
I agree with you buts it's illegal because the government requires those orange strips on the side.
Jongwon Park I'm talking about the turn signal not the side marker.
keep up the good work Mike!
WOOOW, thus my kind of car
Needs LED front turn signals. Makes it look cheap with incandescents.
TJC450 ikr even the 2017 fusion has full led lighting
So does the 2017 Encore.
Something about the a/c vents on either side of the infotainment screen being different shapes bothers me. OCD I guess.
I had the same issue, one is upside down lol but it still looks good and i get why they did it to work with the shapes around it
T. Cain doesn't bother me at all
Argh why did I have to read this comment? My OCD is now killing me! haha
Lol
That panic button alarm sound could of been better. When I was 16 and I had my first car which was a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon, it had the same exact alarm. If Hyundai wants to branch off and become a luxury car manufacturer and charge premium pricing they need to pay attention to details like this. On my BMW, when the panic is triggered it has that premium alarm sound quality to it and it is used also in all of the Rolls Royce's.
With that big square flat grille, looks good but wind will get up in there and push back against the car at high speeds
do subaru sti
this is weird. if this is ultimate u should have power trunk close and real wood finish. the rear should have control as wekk for climate and display etc. looks like u got the tech package. anyway nice vid. i got the 16' base model and its been great since i got it back n December
It is a G80 with the premium package.
See window sticker at 11:25
+MikesCarInfo i beleive you. its probably regional differences. Enjoy it ;-)
Thanks Mike- but No Heart to save it as my AOL Faveorite? How come? And I'm looking for their Hybrid vs the Lincoln and Toyota
I'm concerned the Geneis doesn't have some Lincoln Featurs, such as teh 2 Memorey Seat buttons on teh Drivers Door and The Auto Closing Trunk, I'm Handicapped in a Power Chair and Like tht Feature on a Car, its a tough strtch to readh up and close the Trunk lid.. But Love the Auto Lift to Open it.. And I prefer either a Japanese made Vehicle ( Toyota) over a US or Korean.. But Nice Review Mike! Thank you Buddy! DTM in Fla, Wi. and Cayman Islands
It has two preset seat positions. It has a “snow” driving setting too. Just push and hold the button a couple seconds and it pops ip.
lamborghinis and ferraris have a high drag coefficient because they are set up to increase downforce
that said, the newest prius has a dc of 0.24, meaning this g80 is very impressive
A luxury car and it doesn't have a 360 camera!!!
What is the name f this interface.
Welldone Mike.
The genesis started a style that going to other models like the sonata did in 2011
loving this car, very intuitive features i must say, price is a bit steep though, but i guess for a fully loaded model it kinda makes sense, Great job Mike, love these reviews, but you know what, i am gonna need you to post more, a lot more of these videos. I actually had a fight with another car reviewer on youtube coz of the quality of your videos, that dude reviewed a car with bird shit all over the body, disgusting, you are my main source or car info
Thanks... I'll try to make as many as I can :)
the price is right
Hi, and what is the price tag on the tested vehicle ?????
Tks
Top G80
Thorough review. Awesome!
Well I took a dive into a new 2017 G80 5.0 Ultimate (out of my 2016
Charger SRT 392).
Don't waste time with the six -
DRIVE THE V8 !!!!👍😀👌✅
Consistent unbridled power in a super buttery smooth delivery system.
If you have Gobs of cash get a
550i BMW. Cause anything else just doesn't compare.
Proud Genesis G80 owner, casablanca white with black interior. My parents are leasing a white G80 with gray interior. Both interiors so beautiful. But, I fear gray interior is too tedious to keep clean.
Thanks for watching and your feedback :)
Love my 2016 Genesis. Will be getting the 2017 G80 soon!
What about the G90?
+Dylan Dawson I haven't seen one yet.
Ill do a walkaround video as soon I see one at my dealership.
My partner works at a Hyundai dealership. They are already coming in.
I have the 2016 V8. It has way more features than this one especially in the rear seats. Also the wood trim is of a higher quality (they say it's real) but I'm not sure.
I got a pearl BlackG80 and love it - better than a Mercedes and when you take it in for service you don't pay Mercedes exorbitant prices - they take care of everything car is wonderful and I have owned many cars in my many years on this planet- my only issue with the car is it goes too fast and you don't know it- I looked down at the dashboard and I was going 80 and felt like 45- Marvelous vehicle love it total class all the way
That looks just like a 2016 Hyundai Sonota!
Far off lol
More like the Elantra to me.
+Fequi Simon And Honda too. a fully optioned out Accord makes Acura pointless.
+Marlon Johnson Ya i mean technology is good but they really hurting their luxury brands. Honda and Ford are probably wondering why they dont sell much of their luxury brand.
That horn sounds extremely weak or maybe it was just the video that made it sound that way.
Mine sounds like that too. Not much of an alarm!
Very shocking at the Amazing quality used.
Thanks for watching and your feedback :)
