My used 2007 Sonada bought in 2009 with 36,000 miles for $10K has about 297,000 miles and still going. The only major item (not normal wear items) was the fuel pump and you don't have to drop the tank to replace (can access from the top). Say what you will but this has turned out to be a great car. I will use it as a daily driver to work until it stops or needs a major repair.
This gives me hope for my 2008 Sonata 2.4L. Just shy of 205k. Oil change every 5kish miles and still runs since I first got it (which was 90k) My fuel pump also gave in. (around 130k miles). Which was the ONLY time it let me down.
I have a 2012 Genesis 3.6 liter. I have only replaced the oil, oil filter, tires and a battery. Brakes are still at 50% wear. SOB flies. My first ticket in 20 years, going 92 and barely pushing 2,500 rpm. Currently has 101,000 on the odometer. Paint has faded some, not garage kept. But, I think I would rather have this car repainted, then to buy a new car. I like it that much!
I had a 2010 2.5 L Hyundai Sonata, and it had 278,000 miles on it, never once touch the transmission fluid and if things shifted, smooth like it was brand-new, never burned any oil
My 05 Sonata has 195000 miles and not one thing has ever gone wrong with it till now. Car locks itself whenever it wants. Rear brackets holding rear suspension breaking. Rust galore. At least I drove it till the tires are falling off.
I enjoyed this car so much I ended up buying this car twice. My first Genesis was a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 in Caspian black. That unit was RWD. Clocked 115,000 miles and traded it in for a 2018 Genesis G80 5.0 AWD Ultimate. No regrets. This one is in Casablanca White because why not.🤗
I own a first-gen 2012 Hyundai Genesis and just crossed over 278,000 miles (started with 86,000mi) with regular maintenance and oil changes after seven years. At this point, I'm not worried about any biases or comparisons made between Toyota/Lexus. Genesis has already proven itself as a luxury brand years ago imo.
Hey Scotty, I'm cheap just like you. I bought a 2008 Hyundai Azera with over 81k miles on it 12 years ago. Twelve years later, I still have the car, and it has over 274,000 miles on it. Original engine and Transmission. Still drives like a dream.
@richsweeney1115 True, but in comparison to some other vehicles do not get to over 100k miles trouble free.....such as BMW, Audi. Even the new Tundra had turbo problems.
@@Blue-moon12 I have the 5.0 HTRAC G80, and same year as yours. I am on my second. My first one was a 2015 5.0... Having the V8 with the AWD is night and day. I will never go back to RWD.
The nice thing about the first gen G80 and G90 is they came with both NA V8 and V6 options. I wish they would have kept the 3.8 V6 and 5.0 V8 with the current lineup. They were built in Korea and seemed like pretty stout engines, no turbos or superchargers to wear things down prematurely. They switched over to newer turbocharged engines in 2020-2021. We'll have to see how they hold up over the next 10 or so years. I've been looking for a nice used G90 with the V8, but they are so rare to find with low mileage. It sure would beat the old 2007 300C I had a few years ago.
The Korean-built ones are pretty good. The American ones with the I4 are the ones you have to watch out for. My mom's Korean-built 2014 Tuscon is almost at 120K miles and doesn't burn any oil, but a lot of the ones made in the Alabama plant from around that time haven't been able to reach that sort of mileage without the engine blowing up at least once.
@@DJ2226 Same could be said with all JDM vehicles built in America. American auto manufacturers are the worse in quality control. Vehicles that are produced in America always seem to not age well.
I own a 2018 G80 but mine is AWD in a tech package has much better and wider infotainment screen. Same thing used but a dealer loaner with 14,000 km. Love the car

Remember when Scotty compared a Lexus side by side with a Genesis? At 100,000 miles, the Genesis was making valve noise from excessive wear. The Lexus was still running perfectly.
Yeah I remember like it was yesterday because that video really made me mad. I got a 2014 genesis that runs smoothly and fast. Only downfall is you can’t modify them.
I have a 2016 Genesis 3.8L. Ran it up to 131,000 miles and she still runs great. Only did the oil changes so far. Gonna get a coolant flush soon. Other than that, VERY Reliable and no issues
When I served in the Marine Corps back in the mid 90's, I spent about a month in Korea. The one thing I noticed right away, was that 99% of all the cars and trucks on the road were Hyundai. The only non-Hyundais on the road were those of the US servicemen stationed there. This is probably why they sell more Hyundais in Korea then here.
*This is the first vehicle Scotty has ever tested which didn’t give out ANY error codes regardless of the miles* . The irony is that he keeps saying how it won’t hold up over time when facts prove that it’s one of the most popular vehicles in Korea, even more than Lexus & Acura. Remember, *Acura/Honda has just issued a recall of most of their models from 2015-2023 for major engine issues* . Scotty hasn’t even spoken about that because it would discredit his words. I’ve seen Genesis vehicles with over 200k miles with their original engines and transmissions. But according to Scotty, only Acura and Lexus can do that but he doesn’t like facts as a Toyota/Honda fan boy. Every single time he has a Lexus/Acura and scans the computer, he keeps talking about codes he isn’t worried about since they’re only off by a small margin so he clears them but this Genesis didn’t show a single code, not even the tire pressure sensor code.😂
I have 2018 Genesis for five years, to me it is excellent car I have hundred thousand kilometers on it. Also the dealership has changed the oil and filter and get oil for free during this five years.

A couple videos ago with the hyundai elantra hev. You said the engine setup was a good idea. Would you still be concerned with the transmission on it? Thinking about grabbing one, they look so much better than the corolla and civic
There is a 2013 Genesis.5.0 with 300 thousand miles on it only the alternator and gesrs of the mirrors went out and a 3.8 with almost 300 thousand miles, there cars are still running strong. There is a 2012 Genesis.5.0 guy who tuned it beyond its limits trying to make it a 11 second car he is at 12.1 in the quarter mile he races it all the time and has over 200k and it still running like a bat out of hell. These cars are very reliable i will wait see how many miles it can really do before the motor dies? So far there hanging with the Lexus ranked number 2 and only been in the game for a little while the Genesis brand.
Scottys a true car guy. True car guy don't drive new cars. They drive whatever they're in the mood to drive at the time. Could be a rusty S10 one day and a shiney Cadillac the next.
Love it. All my cars are pushing 20 years old. To give Scotty a laugh one is a 2 litre diesel CITROEN Zsara Picasso. All maintained by myself. My two other cars are Fords. 😳. All of these cars are simple to maintain. Not like the new cars of today. Keep the great videos coming. Not heard of water Voltage 🤣🤣. Greetings from the UK. I’m a cheap skate too 😇🤣🤣🤣
My mom's 2015 Genesis had a whining rear differential at 70k miles. It also had fading paint, broken driver seat controls, broken trunk release, broken and fading trim, and the leather was thin and easy to scratch or tear. We found her a 2005 Lexus LS430 and sold that Genny before it became a money pit. At least the Lexus is worth spending money on as it ages.
The Genesis badge looks a lot like Bentley's as well as Aston Martin's. I've heard good things about Genesis. I doubt I'll ever have the money but if I did I'd buy a Genesis over other luxury brands, especially the German manufacturers.
Bought my 2012 4.6 V8 in April of 22 with 73k, i now have 130k on it, only needed oil, brake pads, brake calipers and tires. Never have i beaten on a car like this one
You said you'd buy something if it was a good deal. A FUN side-channel......a game show channel called "Will Scotty Buy It?"......people bring Scotty cars that they think he will buy......but (cue audience shouting slogan) "WILL SCOTTY BUY IT?!!!"
Hyundai is trash. I have a 2019 Hyundai Kona Se awd and the only good thing is mpg and awd. Motor had to be replaced at 51,000 miles. Didn't have to pay thankfully.
Well Scotty in case you didn’t know the designer of that worked for Aston Martin And yes he did copy it from one car to the next That was quite intentional I learned that from an Aston Martin dealer in California So there We were looking at the one they designed which was $250,000 and my lady said G I like mine better it’s got more tech and they look the same So there you go 😮😅😅
my late youngest sister had an 1999 Nissan Altima GXE and I could be getting this car, question is that is it a great car to own & drive. Are there any issues with that car that I should be looking out for?
Had 2015 Hyundai Genesis v6. A few problems. only 78k KM. 1. oil dip stick tip is made with plastic. it fell off into the oil reservoir... luckily no engine damage 2.. sunroof can't close properly due to misalignment 3. driver seat back bracket broke, back seat cover fell off 4. the car drives like a boat, bad handling 5. electronics and sensors will randomly go off, not very reliable it is cheaper for a reason. buyers beware...
Some pretty dangerous charging locations, afraid to stop, but had too. No more we sold the car. Never again !! This is what actual owners are repeating.
I remember the tagline for the commercials---"Malibu. The car you knew America could build". It's like GM was admitting Japanese cars were superior than anything they had been making. And the Malibu was no different.
I took a chance with getting a Kia...2019 Forte brand new with 32 miles on it. I now have 97,000 miles on it and have put a battery and new tires. Still runs whisper quiet

All of these cars are simple to maintain. Not like the new cars of today. Keep the great videos coming. Not heard of water Voltage 🤣🤣. Greetings from the UK. I’m a cheap skate too 😇🤣🤣🤣
Scotty got a momentary soft spot for Korea. 😅
Looks similar to a Chrystler logo too. And now Subaru has a blue oval that looks like a Ford logo from a distance.
Sounds like your mom just didnt take care of the car
@@everfresh29 Don't worry. His Mom will be driving that Lexus LS430 right to the ground as well.
oh cmon..We have hyundai here with 300.000 kms and hyundai with 25 years and still driving...dont prejudge..
The Genesis badge looks a lot like Bentley's as well as Aston Martin's.
I've heard good things about Genesis. I doubt I'll ever have the money but if I did I'd buy a Genesis over other luxury brands, especially the German manufacturers.
Scotty - what do you think of the 2017 Ford F250 with the 6.2L V8 Gas engines??? Any good?
Bought my 2012 4.6 V8 in April of 22 with 73k, i now have 130k on it, only needed oil, brake pads, brake calipers and tires. Never have i beaten on a car like this one
You said you'd buy something if it was a good deal. A FUN side-channel......a game show channel called "Will Scotty Buy It?"......people bring Scotty cars that they think he will buy......but (cue audience shouting slogan) "WILL SCOTTY BUY IT?!!!"
I had a bad transmission on g80 but dealer warranty covered it
Too bad they don’t make the Hyundai Tiburon anymore; that was a neat-looking coupe.
A sedan with rear wheel drive, can be fun with manual and will go forever.
Someone once told me "there should be generic or knock-off car companies", I said, "that's what Hyundai is."
I got a 2015 100,000 miles
Scotty, it’s HUN-day. Rhymes with Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, etc. You’re driving me nuts.
He can't pronounce those days, either.
How u gona correct someone and be wrong too?
Exactly! One of my biggest pet peeves but I still watch him 😅
Hyundai like sunday
That photo of that laughing horse never gets old !!
Scotty missed a interesting piece of data. "Distance since DTC cleared", wow, does only Kia have this attribute? Never saw it in any other OBD system.
Kia and Hyundai are decent cars. Many of their engines just need a few more bolts. 😁
Junk
It's 20 yrs old and barely broken in" 😂😂
Wait does Scott live in Rhode Island because im from RI??
just fyi dodge also uses the wing thingy too
Just get that nice Mercedes Scotty you can afford it!
Hyundai is trash. I have a 2019 Hyundai Kona Se awd and the only good thing is mpg and awd. Motor had to be replaced at 51,000 miles. Didn't have to pay thankfully.
Emblem also looks like Chrysler's.
Hyundai/Kia makes the worst transmissions? Nissan has entered the chat...
They are not ready for that conversation.😂
scotty is gonna eat his words about genusis
@@harveyhankerson8359genesis cars have nothing to do with Hyundai
Well Scotty in case you didn’t know the designer of that worked for Aston Martin
And yes he did copy it from one car to the next
That was quite intentional
I learned that from an Aston Martin dealer in California
So there
We were looking at the one they designed which was $250,000 and my lady said G I like mine better it’s got more tech and they look the same
So there you go
😮😅😅
Lexus want to be, only the analog clock in the interior.
Not only that but to me some of the genesis’ look like older model Mercedes from the mid 2000s
well, it has a semi-manual. A real manual requires one hand and one foot to operate
my late youngest sister had an 1999 Nissan Altima GXE and I could be getting this car, question is that is it a great car to own & drive. Are there any issues with that car that I should be looking out for?
Genesis is plagued with problems. They rank very low in reliability ratings too.
Can't be as bad compared to what Toyota and Honda are now dealing with.
@@mackfar27Toyota Honda have a few problems with some of their models but Genesis has large problems with most of their models.
Had 2015 Hyundai Genesis v6. A few problems. only 78k KM.
1. oil dip stick tip is made with plastic. it fell off into the oil reservoir... luckily no engine damage
2.. sunroof can't close properly due to misalignment
3. driver seat back bracket broke, back seat cover fell off
4. the car drives like a boat, bad handling
5. electronics and sensors will randomly go off, not very reliable
it is cheaper for a reason. buyers beware...
Some pretty dangerous charging locations, afraid to stop, but had too. No more we sold the car. Never again !! This is what actual owners are repeating.
not bad at all
Chevy brought the Malibu bak in the late '90s to compete with the Japanese automakers
I remember the tagline for the commercials---"Malibu. The car you knew America could build".
It's like GM was admitting Japanese cars were superior than anything they had been making. And the Malibu was no different.
The Hyundai badge is two people shaking hands
I thought they used a 'H' , same as Honda
@@mrgarrison3516 I heard both explanations. Also where the Acura badge is a reshaping of the Honda "H".
I owned a 2013 Hyundai Genesis 'R-Spec' v8, and had to have the transmission replaced at 74K miles.
I think Diana likes you, Scotty.
I took a chance with getting a Kia...2019 Forte brand new with 32 miles on it. I now have 97,000 miles on it and have put a battery and new tires. Still runs whisper quiet
You have no miles.....but ivr seen them blow motors with less miles
@@richsweeney1115 I have to.... But mine has been rock solid reliable
@@johnwhalen3191 im glad its been good for you, i just wouldnt want one from the issues ive seen
@@richsweeney1115 Thank you. Honestly, it's one of the best cars I've owned
Good show 👍
Thanks Scotty! I've been thinking and wondering about Genesis. Great video.
Toyota will always number 1 in opinion....
only a few days Scooty !!!
file the papers to run for Prez
There were some that looked like a Lexus
Get rid of the ropes of the sweatshirt- a spinning mtr would love to grab-...
If you're hard up and can't find an LS430...
160k just oil and brakes
Looks like Scotty cashed out that Hyundai check 😂
Real mechanics call Scotty a joke.
