I think the Sonata about 2 or 3 gens was a coming of age for the brand. Tbh, the Ioniq is maybe more a hat tip worthy milestone than the G80 or even G90.
Don't listen to the poor haters. We recently purchased the V6 G80 and love it. I especially like the 9 speed transmission and rear wheel drive. This car growls & hauls ass and leaves everybody behind. It's well built and competes with the Caddy and Lexus LS that we just traded. Of course, it's not as large as the V8 LS and Caddy, but only by 3 inches or so. Very comfortable, tight gentle ride. We enjoy the puddle lamps that illuminate the ground when opening the doors at night, projected from the side mirrors. This feature is never mentioned, but it's there, lighting your pathway with the Genesis logo. Also never mentioned, is the automatic power windows that reduce to a slower speed when lowering the windows. Another cool feature is that the entire bottom of the car is encased with protective panels that provide extra protection to your exhaust and underside, and provides extra sound insulation from road noise. We also have the app on our iPhone that allows you to start the car from your phone. My only regret is not purchasing the expensive V8 G90 Ultimate package. Wow, what a nice ride! But, we are very happy with the G80.
This is my next car, I’ve waited 4 years , just hard finding the color and the year without high miles, but I have consistently wanted this car, so I’ll get it.
Excellent, insightful review. Let me remind you that "fuel economy" is based on fuel COST per mile, not miles per gallon of fuel. The Genesis V6 only needs 87 octane regular. Some of its competitors require premium, which in some cases more than makes up for the difference in fuel consumption.
And that's why I would take this over a Lexus. Sure, all you Lexus fanboys would say "But the quality of Lexus is much better man!" Although it is, I am still looking for a rear-wheel-drive bias AWD car that isn't the Lexus GS. Btw I really loved that car, but after seeing that it required premium fuel and it was going to be discontinued, I turned to Genesis. So yeah, that's all for me here lol
i love your reviews, very underrated channel. you're very eloquent and straight to the point, no annoying forced personality like so many other car reviewers. your videos are packed with useful information- dont change your formula, its perfect!
Recently purchased a G80 to replace my 2013 Hyundai Genesis. I love the new car, drives much better than the older model, especially the handling. Interior fit and finish is as nice as expected. All in all, satisfied with the purchase.
I'm very interested in the 3.3T when it arrives. It always seems to take Hyundai a few years to figure out their new engines, so we'll see how it holds up. Looks like they finally have the 1.6T figured out after 4 years. Hopefully they took what they learned and built the 3.3T better from the beginning. I really like the G80 and would consider buying the sport in the future.
TheAdventureMiazda So are we! It should be the perfect addition to the lineup. We do wish the 3.3T made slightly better numbers on paper, but we'll reserve our final judgement until we drive it. If they can crack the 5 second barrier to 60, we imagine a lot of buyers will be signing up to purchase a G80 Sport.
TheAdventureMiazda I agree that 1.6T was a pile for the first couple few years. My uncle who works at a Hyundai dealership, says he has seen many Tuscon 1.6T and Veloster Turbos come in with burned out engines. Under warranty, but still not acceptable. I gotta give it to Hyundai tho, they really are trying. I was pleasantly surprised when I drove the base 2016 sonata, it's a nice car.
Raptor 450 Yea i was big in the Veloster Turbo forums when i had mine and so many people, nearly everbody was having their engines blow. My good friend had one and his turbo blew and sent oil through his whole intake system. It had to cost Hyundai so much money in repair work.
Now is a good time to buy last year's Genesis G80 - you can buy this car now for $34,000 in my area A huge discount from the near $45,000 price for a fully loaded AWD 3.8 model. Take advantage of the huge Genesis depreciation!
The thing that is weird is that the dash looks so much like a Sonata. The vents are the same, the intro sound, the trip screen, the ac controls and the media controls, the shifter, the door handles. But truth is I think the Sonata is so well done on the inside. I might just stick with the Sonata now that I think about it.
Picked up this car and again have to point out the stereo in the Ultimate package. Lexicon well known by audiophiles around the world really is just an amazing addition to this car. I can think of only two stock stereos that may beat The Mark Levinson in the high end Lexis and the Meridian in Jaguars. Blows Acura's ELS and all Bose systems out of the water.
@@luism8612 haha well had that car for like a year before I traded it in for a kia stinger. Then had that car for about a year then my work commute went to like 1.5 miles away from home. So it was extremely impractical. Now the wife has a Sorento and I have a motorcycle. But I will say the genesis was a great car. Super comfy

I'm with you Sofyan...yes this car looks great, but it only makes me more excited to see what the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport will do in performance tests! I've been watching reviews on Korean just to look at it lol
Hyundai should be given credit for stepping up their game....... A day begins a journey, you don't just expect them to be on par with their German folks.. The future belongs to them if they can keep up the steam.
Nice review, Sofyan! I just recently reviewed both 2017 Genesis G90 Ultimate and Premium. I am glad to see that the Genesis G80 is following in its bigger brother's foot steps! The Genesis G80 sure seems like a pretty good value for your money! Offering more than enough power with very mature exterior/ interior character cues. One downside, similar to the G90 is fuel economy. Both the G80 and G90 seem to fall a little behind there competitors when in that regard. The interior of this vehicle, though, seems to look pretty high quality, and does a decent job in making you believe you payed a lot more than you actually did! The exterior also sports Genesis' crest grille design, which I truly love the look of. I agree though, the exterior styling could be just slightly more extravagant looking in its character lines. All in all though, Genesis kept the G80 somewhat understated in its design, while still jam packing it with a pretty decent amount of technology, and safety amenities! Keep up the great work, Sofyan! I cannot wait until I can get the chance to review a 2017 Genesis G80, as well! 😉🖒 -DriveAndBeDriven 🚘 "The Quest To Record The Best!"
You don't seem to fully understand the difference between "fuel economy" and fuel "consumption." Fuel economy must take into account the actual cost of the fuel used by the car. If the Genesis uses 87 octane regular, and its competitor uses high octane premium, then the Genesis can have substantially higher fuel CONSUMPTION while still having better or nearly equal fuel ECONOMY. Premium gas costs a heck of a lot more.
JimInNashville, Ahhhh! I see! That is very interesting! I guess the G80 is a pretty EFFICIENT entry when compared to its competitors, even though its may have higher fuel CONSUMPTION! Thanks for replying, and thanks for the helpful information! 😉👍 -DriveAndBeDriven 🚘 "The Quest To Record The Best!" 📽

Obviously, these cars will depreciate like a rock. So do Germans. I've seen so many videos of AMG Mercedes that retailed for 150k and someone bought them ten years later for 5k. Ten years from now, this car will be worth 5k too, but it cost a hell of a lot less to begin with (I know that this car can't compete with any AMG, I'm just saying this because people seem to think German cars don't depreciate as much). I'm wondering if the wood you see on the interior is real?
I am inclined to believe it is real wood trim, but it is just my best guess
it is real on higher trims. But base trims get printed woods which has great details but real wood is obviously better.
And G80 sports get real 3D Carbon trim which has great touch to it.

Sofyan when are you going to review the G90?
Soon! Just waiting for Genesis to schedule it to us. Be sure to check our social accounts for all the latest press cars we're driving!

I would buy this car in the next 8-10 year 😂
Pros and cons between the 2017 and 2018 Genesis G80 Models... debating between the two.
Emeka Nwozuzu there pretty much the same car , only difference is the 2018 has a different loooking front look to it , other than that , same engine, same rims , save money get a 2017 ULTIMATE PACKAGE that’s the fully loaded version .
@@mikexcanxjerk got the 2017 Ultimate edition.
Emeka Nwozuzu good choice , how many miles did do car have , and what color
@@mikexcanxjerk 27,230 miles, black.
Emeka Nwozuzu good buy , brother under 30k , black , I’m curious what was the final price of the car age after taxes and fees ? So far how are you liking the power and speed of the car , how’s the gas mileage is it good or so so ? ,
Is fwd or rwd better
better for what?...Performance? RWD . Practicality and affordability? FWD
I’m on the fence of either getting this G80, or an Infiniti G37
Is there anything bad about the car?? I find it hard that there are zero negatives with this car? Drop the thesaurus with every superlative and act like you know more about cars other than what’s on the sticker and owners manual
What’s the name of the intro song?

Hey mate .. later Does anyone understand larger this varidnt#?

Where's the Heads Up display?
It's projected on the wind shield and only the driver can see it. It will show the current road limit, your driving speed, and the lanes..etc. A very nice and useful feature for sure.
