A thing of beauty. Strange, not replicable by mass production, and only the very first one may be owned by it's inventor. This might be the very definition of art.

Tim I really like the bottle opener you made out of the cable.

I was just watching the cable drift video and was thinking that a good way to sections off without having to reassemble the cable like you had to in the last video is to use those metal clamps, we call em refrigerator clamps, that you use to tighten hoses and vents to things with a screwdriver. Put two of em on near each end of the piece you wanna cut and tighten, cut it then weld it while the clamps hold it all together.

    Letsssss goooo.
This gave me an idea for a completely useless (except as a paper weight or just a weird piece of art) but cool thing. Now... Hear me out. Damascus bagel lol (like the food bagel). When you squished the cable down in the power hammer it just reminded me of a bagel for some reason, but there are some bagels that have awesome looking swirls in them and would look so cool made from Damascus.

Hey Tim, I was really keen on buying one of these bottle openers, but $120 for shipping on a $30 item to Australia seems a bit over priced? Fair enough for one of the bigger items like an axe, but that can't be right for a less than 1kg package, can it? Let me know, thanks! Love your videos. Nick

Unfortunately tracked and insured shipping from Canada is crazy expensive. The last time somebody asked me to send a package non tracked to Australia it took 78 days to arrive. Not good if you are trying to run a business.

Would an etch do anything interesting to it? Maybe just to darken the crevices for contrast? Tons of cool texture to it. Good job.

"Fractured opener" doesn't sound like you put much "care" into the name Haha "Busted Bottle Opener" is alittle catchier Lol Have at it, if you'd like to use it. I'm gonna try an old-fashioned opener with some of my cable, we'll see what happens Haha

I think you should try a pry bar out of the cable!!! I did one out of a stem from the head of a high-performance race motor head? The litter part in a motor Haha The fun part was they're Titanium!!! Lol That got interesting punching the lanyard holes, I do it ALL by hand 😉

Tim, Tim here too. I'd like to see what a wrought iron bottle opener would turn out like. I just found a supply of really nice grain wrought and I'm excited to try making all kinds of things with it. So of course with wrought in the brain that was the first thing I thought of when I saw this video. Keep the content and the products coming!

  • @Riyame

Interesting idea. I wonder if you would be able to find a source for 2" or 3" diameter cable offcuts that would make the project easier. Another idea for cable items would be to work with a longer length of cable, forge a bit more solid than you need then cut that section off. That way you wouldn't have to cut it and then weld both ends and then forge it.

Have you tried making knives out of damascus? I bet damascus out of this rope would look sick! You could even add some metal rods and other stuff to make a complex pattern.

I still wanna see someone make a cable damascus hammer. I know it was being discussed on one of my Facebook groups as a guy had a MONSTER chunk of some kind of cable on his hands but nothing ever came of it.

Hi Tim, love the content you kick out! Really enjoying seeing the progress and optimisation that comes with it. I’m not in anyway a blacksmith, I’m a baker in a similar small scale environment and as such really enjoying the evolution/growing in that regard.
Keep it up! Shout out to Martin the workhorse!?!
I think you should revisit the 3 cable tack but make it 5 and twist I vice to consolidate then weld. (maybe some tooling required?)
Plus make it longer and hot cut that way you may save the time on welding cable?
Again I have no experience but that’s the direction my mind went; hope it’s at least food for thought.
