Ok, ya'll ran over my web store so fast for these puppies, I figured I better start making some more! Next drop going to be around end of January 2021! If you want more details and keep up to date on this drop, please follow me on instagram as I try to be current with progress and behind the scene work! Instagram name @timothy.dyck Thank you to all the interest and support! Really means a lot to me!
I don't have an instagram account. How's it going with the next batch? Has it sold out yet? I'm looking for a Birthday present for my father. He's 81 and his birthday is February 28th.
So cool to recycle old rail steel. I have a few pieces of the old narrow gauge rail from franklin county Maine. Who knows, might give it a try. Best of luck in the new venture. Super nice axes and history. Thank you for showing us the build.
Looks like I will have to be grabbing one of those, my Great Grandfather worked as a structural engineer on the Great Northern from 1891 to 1911 designing and building bridges.
A fellow Canadia and man I love this guy! Just started watching and already got that notification bell on. Keep up the amazing content and no doubt you'll only grow.
Not that I've ever re-handled an axe head, but a tip from Essential Craftsmen is to sharpen the axe head on the very last step, after it's on the handle. If you're looking to make a lot of these, perhaps look into the "Russian knife sharpener" that Cody from Wranglerstar has a few videos about. Makes consistent, razor edge sharpening easy.
Another thing I've heard about making the axe head stay on for a long time is to soak the head of the axe (with the handle in) in boiled linseed oil overnight. People would do this with water but it would dry up over time and make the handle loose. Oil fills the cells of the wood and stays there.
Really kewl to see this. My grandfather had one the originals used it for spliting kindling and when he was trapping. He made a newer handle about maybe 1/3 as long again.
Wow amazing. If you would every be interested in selling/trading some I’d love to chat about it. If that interests you send me a email. Info@timothydyck.com 😊
It might be killing a mouse with an elephant gun ...... You might look into Magnafluxing to disclose hidden cracks, flaws in the stock. It's pretty straight forward.
I have a jar of odie’s dark myself, and it’s not nearly as dark as yours. Any chance you can ask your friend that gave you that finish if he used any additional colorants and if so how much?
When putting on the stain you might want to keep on the sheath so you don't hit the blade as you go up and down the axe with the stain. Great video! (Lol I know, I know. Save it tough guys. lol ) ua-cam.com/video/imXMzrKug34/v-deo.html
It totally would be! Next drop planned for end of January 2021. Follow me on instagram if you want more details on the axe drop as I update more often there!
If someone had a collaboration with buckin Billy Ray Smith on axe design. And made an heirloom splitting axe, then I'd definitely buy for like 4 or 5 hundred bucks.
Thanks! We normalize two times, then quench in oil, then temper for 2 hours at 400 F. It’s not a recipe for all RR. If we make axes from different RR then I would have to retest and dial it in. Hope that answers your question.
Hi Timothy, like your content very much. Poorly I have seen your video too late to get an Axe, on one side for me to have a nice piece of blacksmithing and on the other side to support you. But in the first place I have a small question. Do you ship to EU - Germany? Would be very nice to get one of the second batch.
I would totally ship one to you in Germany, no problem! If your not following me on Instagram, please do as that stays most current for axe availability etc. Thanks.
